Transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis (ATTR) is a systemic disease with protein precipitation in many tissues, mainly the peripheral nerve and heart. Both genetic (ATTRv, "v" for variant) and wild-type (ATTRwt) forms are known. Beyond the steric encumbrance, precipitated transthyretin seems to have a toxic effect. In this study carried out in men, we recruited 15 ATTRv patients, 7 ATTRv asymptomatic carriers, 14 ATTRwt patients and 10 young and 13 old healthy controls to evaluate the oxidative stress using FORD (Free Oxygen Radicals Defense) and FORT (Free Oxygen Radicals Test) analyses. ATTRv patients showed reduced FORD compared to ATTRwt and ATTRv asymptomatic carriers. FORD independently predicted the disease stage, with the early stages characterized by the highest consumption. Abstract Background Resveratrol is a natural polyphenolic compound present in plants and red wine with many potential health benefits. This compound has various anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor properties and can improve cellular mitochondrial activity. This trial was designed to evaluate the effect on the outcome of IVF of Resveratrol supplementation in women > 35 years with good ovarian reserve (AMH > 1.2 ng/ml). Women were randomized to receive or placebo or Resveratrol (150 mg per day) for three months preceding the ovarian stimulation (OS). All patients were stimulated with a starting dose of recombinant FSH ranging between 150 and 300 IU according to age and ovarian reserve. GnRH antagonist flexible protocol was adopted for pituitary suppression. Triggering was performed with urinary hCG (10.000 IU). Results The study was conducted between January 2019 and December 2022 with aa total of 37 cases and 33 controls were recruited. No statistically significant differences in the number of oocytes retrieved, biochemical pregnancy, clinical pregnancy and live birth rates were observed between women treated with resveratrol and control group. A statistically significant increase in the follicle output rate (FORT) and follicle-to oocyte index (FOI) was observed in women treated with resveratrol-based nutraceutical (0.92 versus 0.77 [p = 0.02], and 0.77 versus 0.64 [p = 0.006], respectively). Conclusions Preliminary results from this study indicate that pre-treatment with resveratrol may improve ovarian sensitivity to exogenous FSH, which in turn may decrease the risk of hypo-response to OS in advanced reproductive age women.

Although there are plentiful results on the dynamics of monotone mappings, the problem becomes difficult in the non-monotone case. For PM functions (i.e., for piecewise monotone functions), it is known that the non-monotonicity height is an important index to describe their complexity, and the dynamical properties for such functions are complicated when the non-monotonicity height is infinity. In this paper, we consider the non-monotonity height for a general PM function, and give a classification for the non-monotonicity height of those functions. The article deals with study of the Belgorod line as an archaeological monument. The first attempts at archaeological research of this defense line are considered, the results of research in recent years, when the relevance of this topic was identified at the state level, are summarized. The results of exploration scientific work are analyzed, including large-scale exploration studies, excavations of fortified cities, earthworks and other field fortifications. Some theoretical and methodological problems are touched upon, including issues of systematization and access to reconstruction. According to the authors, the archaeological study of defensive lines can be separated into a separate section of the archeology of the late Middle Ages, since the results obtained during the research have great scientific and social potential.

This paper is based on archival sources and materials of archaeological studies of recent decades in the Upper Amur River region. The author gives the history of the construction of Russian wooden forts on the banks of the Amur in the 2 half of the XVII century. Special attention is paid to the role of forts as military outposts for the development of the territory, as well as centers of economic life of the population. There are two stages in the history of the forts – from 1643 to 1658 and from 1665 to 1689. The article reveals the modern state of the study and reconstruction of forts. Since the 2 half of the XIX century, information about forts of the XVII century becomes not only the subject of archaeological and historical studies, but also a source of the mythology of history. The history of the Amur forts is one of the most important foundations of the historical memory of the development of the Far East, support of patriotism and pride in the history of Russia, an example of the courage and heroism.

The article summarizes the results of a comprehensive historical study of the kremlins and fortresses of the Upper Kama region of the XVI–XVIII centuries. The main stages of the development of wooden defensive architecture in the region are traced. Stroganov fortresses and kremlins of Cherdyn, Solikamsk, Kungur, Osa and Yegoshikha settlement are described. It is noted that the change in the size of the sazhen (Russian unit of measurement) in the XVII century practically did not affect the standard of logging. The module of wooden construction is defined, which allows to reconstruct towers of different types with great accuracy, even by a brief description.

During the last two archaeological campaigns (2021-2022) we worked in the central area of the large fort at Băneasa. As we expected, the trenches have intersected the defensive ditch of the second phase of the fort (it shrank at less than half of the original surface), and the new gate of the eastern precinct. The two phases are similar in many respects, as the shape and the size of the ditch, the almost flat rampart, the undersized palisade, as well as that unique tower-gate, with no analogies for the first half of the third century. There are also some differences; for instance, the end of this fortification seems rather pacific, as rendered by both the stratigraphic rendition and the short list of findings. There is still some news, as the discovery of stamped tiles, which is a first for this frontier – Limes Transalutanus – all across the plain, south of Pitești City. Unfortunately, those tiles were brought from Slăveni (the largest fort from southern Romania, located 39 km west-northwest of Băneasa, beyond Olt River) therefore we still do not know the name of the military unit garrisoned at Băneasa. The comparison made for the pottery of the two phases does not show relevant differences, but the chronological gap is not greater than two decades.

The purpose of this study is to compare conventional start in early follicular phase (EFP) with late follicular phase (LFP) and luteal phase (LP) in controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) for fertility preservation (FP) to assess differences in clinical outcomes. Retrospective study of the first cycles of COS for FP in oncological patients between 2012 and 2020 in a tertiary hospital. Two-hundred forty-eight cycles were classified into 3 groups: 176 cycles in EFP, 8 cycles in LFP, and 52 cycles in LP. Comparing LFP to EFP, there were no differences in number of oocytes (10.0 [6.3–16.0] vs 12.0 [8.0–18.0]; p = 0.253) or number of metaphase II (MII) obtained (7.0 [2.3–13.3] vs 9.0 [6.0–13.0]; p = 0.229). Total number of days needed was higher in LFP (14.5 [12.5–16.0] vs 3.0 vs 10.0 [8.3–11.0 p = 0.000) but without significant differences in number of days of usage of gonadotropins (11.5 [8.3–12.8] vs 10.0 [8.3–11.0] p = 0.308). No differences were found between LP and EFP in number of oocytes (14.5 [9.0–20.0] p = 0.151) or MII (11.5 [7.0–16.0] p = 0.084). Number of days of gonadotropins (11.0 [10.0–12.0] p = 0.00) and total dosing (3000.0 [2475.0–3600.0] p = 0.013) were significantly higher in LP. FORT and FOI were similar in all groups. COS with a random start in fertility preservation has similar outcomes to EFP start. Therefore, we can initiate COS at any phase of the menstrual cycle with optimal results. STUDY QUESTION Does unilateral oophorectomy modify the antral follicular responsiveness to exogenous FSH, assessed by the Follicular Output RaTe (FORT) in normo-ovulating women? SUMMARY ANSWER Antral follicle responsiveness to exogenous FSH, as assessed by the FORT index, is significantly higher in women with a single ovary in comparison with the ipsilateral ovary of age-matched controls. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Growing evidence indicates that the innovative FORT may be a remarkable tool to evaluate the follicle responsiveness to exogenous FSH, independently of the size of the pretreatment cohort of small antral follicles. It is conceivable that in the unclear compensating mechanisms at play in women having undergone unilateral oophorectomy, an increase in the sensitivity of antral follicles to FSH may be involved. To clarify this issue, we decided to investigate whether the responsiveness of follicles to exogenous FSH, as assessed by the FORT, is altered in unilaterally oophorectomized patients. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION The study included 344 non-polycystic ovary syndrome, non-endometriotic women, aged 22–43 years old. There were 86 women who had a single ovary as a result of unilateral oophorectomy or adnexectomy (Single Ovary group; average time since surgery: 52 (8–156) months), and each of them was retrospectively matched with three patients having two intact ovaries, according to age (±1 year), year of ovarian stimulation, and FSH starting dose (±50 IU) (Control group, n = 258). PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS Serum anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) levels and total antral follicle count (AFC) (3–12 mm) were assessed on cycle day 3 in both groups. In all patients, follicles were counted before exogenous FSH administration (baseline) and on the day of oocyte trigger (OT) (dOT; preovulatory follicles; 16–22 mm). Antral follicle responsiveness to FSH was estimated in both groups by the FORT, determined by the ratio of the preovulatory follicle count on dOT × 100 to the small AFC at baseline. FORT in the Single Ovary group was compared to the overall FORT considering both ovaries or the index calculated on the ipsilateral ovary of matched controls. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE Overall, serum AMH levels and total AFC (1.0 (0.5–2.1) vs 1.8 (1.0–3.3), P  < 0.005) and (9.0 (6.0–17.0) vs 13.0 (8.0–21.0), P  < 0.001, respectively) were lower in the Single Ovary group compared to the Control group. When considering the FORT calculated on the basis of the overall ovarian response in women with two ovaries, the results were similar when compared to those obtained in patients unilaterally oophorectomized (30.4% (15.6–50.0) vs 32.5% (14.0–50.0), respectively). Interestingly, the comparison of FORT between women with a single ovary and the ipsilateral ovary of age-matched controls, revealed, after adjustment for AMH and AFC, a significantly higher ratio after unilateral oophorectomy (32.5% (14.8–50.0) vs 25.0% (10.0–50.0), P  < 0.002, respectively). LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION This study was based on retrospective data in a limited population. In addition, the FORT index has inherent limitations due to its indirect assessment of follicular responsiveness to FSH. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS The present investigation provides evidence that the responsiveness of antral follicles to exogenous FSH is increased in women having undergone unilateral oophorectomy when compared to the ipsilateral ovary of age-matched controls. This is consistent with the implication of a compensating phenomenon that drives the follicular changes in unilaterally oophorectomized patients. Further studies directly assessing the granulosa cell function and the density of FSH receptors in small antral follicles are required to confirm our findings. Objective: This study aimed to identify the factors that influence follicular output rate (FORT) and follicle-to-oocyte index (FOI) among infertile Vietnamese women, as described by the Poseidon classification of poor responders. Methods: This cross-sectional analysis includes women who received IVF/ICSI treatment at Hue University Hospital, Vietnam, between January 2017 and December 2019. The study population was divided into four groups: Group 1 (age < 35, AFC ≥ 5 and AMH ≥ 1.2 ng/mL, number of oocytes retrieved in the previous cycle ≤ 9), group 2 (age ≥ 35; AFC ≥ 5 and AMH ≥ 1.2 ng/mL, number of oocytes retrieved in the previous cycle ≤ 9), group 3 (age < 35; AFC < 5 and/or AMH < 1.2 ng/mL) and group 4 (age ≥ 35; AFC < 5 and/or AMH < 1.2 ng/mL). All of the patients underwent controlled ovarian stimulation utilizing GnRH antagonist. Results: A total of 243 cases were recruited into groups 1 (n = 44), 2 (n = 33), 3 (n = 54), and 4 (n = 112). There were statistically significant differences between the four groups in terms of age, infertility type, menstrual cycle, body mass index (BMI) and waist-hip ratio (WHR), endocrine tests, and total retrieved oocytes (p 0.05). The average number of oocytes per participant was 7.27, with the highest number occurring in group 1 (10.77) and the lowest occurring in group 4 (5.59). There was a relationship between FORT and BMI (ß: − 0.146, p=0.039), FSH starting dose (ß: 0.146, p=0.030), and AMH (ß:0.166, p=0.015). No statistically significant correlation was detected between FOI and other variables. Conclusion: The starting dose of FSH for ovarian stimulation and AMH concentration were positively associated with FORT in individuals with a poor prognosis, whereas BMI was negatively correlated with FORT; No other parameters were found to correlate with FOI. The first cartographic representations of the Paraná delta have been used to characterize the elements that comprised the archaeological site of Fort Sancti Spiritus, an iconic place in the beginnings of the colonization process initiated by the crown of Castile in the southern sector of the Plata drainage basin. The maps of Sebastian Cabot, Sancho Gutiérrez, and Ruy Díaz de Guzmán are compared with written documentation, other maps from the same time, and the information obtained in the latest archaeological studies. This comparative analysis demonstrates the potential of historical cartography as a primary source to enlarge on or nuance knowledge of the initial stages of the conquest and colonization of this region. Objective: To implement a Flexible Operational Research Training (FORT) course within the Fistula Care Plus Project, Democratic Republic of Congo, from 2017 to 2021. Methods: A descriptive study using design and implementation (process and outcome) data. Two to four members of medical teams from three supported sites were selected for the training based on their research interests and level of involvement in the program. Results: Two courses (13–14 months each) involving nine facilitators and 17 participants overall were conducted between 2017 and 2021. Most participants in both courses were medical doctors (67% and 71%, respectively) from the supported hospitals (83% and 77%, respectively). About half were women. In addition to classic face‐to‐face didactic modules, the courses integrated online platforms to cope with the changing contexts (Ebola virus and COVID‐19). Most participants reported having gained new skills in developing research protocols, collecting, managing, and analyzing data, and developing research manuscripts. The two courses resulted in six scientific manuscripts and three presentations at international conferences. Participants subsequently published five papers from their research after the first course. The total direct costs for both courses were representing a cost of $3669 per participant trained. Conclusion: The FORT model proved feasible, efficient, and successful. However, scaling up will require more adaptation efforts from programs and participating sites. This study aimed to identify parameters associated with total fertilization failure in ICSI cycles. Specifically, we investigated which male and female factors contribute to total fertilization failure. Additionally, we sought to identify patient populations at risk for total fertilization failure to develop preventive strategies for future cases. This retrospective study was conducted at the Bursa Uludağ University ART Center between 2011 and 2024. ICSI was performed on all retrieved oocytes. The study group included patients who had at least three oocytes retrieved and experienced total fertilization failure(n=98). The control group comprised patients with a fertilization rate above 80%(n=937). Comparative evaluations were made between the two groups regarding patients' baseline characteristics, basal hormonal parameters, ovarian stimulation profiles, semen parameters, and oocyte quality scores. Additionally, ovarian response was assessed using the Follicular Output Rate(FORT) and Follicle-to-Oocyte Index(FOI) in both groups. Logistic regression analysis was performed to examine the relationship between significant variables and fertilization failure. Baseline parameters between the study and control groups were statistically similar, indicating no significant differences in initial characteristics except for infertility duration (p=0.002) and etiology (p<0.001). Semen analysis, however, revealed that the study group had significantly lower sperm concentration(p=0.002) and motility (p<0.001) compared to the control group, while sperm morphology (p=0.492) percentages were similar between the groups. The rate of azoospermia was also higher in the fertilization failure group. Concerning oocyte parameters, the study group showed a significantly lower FOI (p=0.007) compared to the control group, while oocyte maturation rates (p=0.166) were similar between the groups. Despite these differences, oocyte quality scores were comparable (p=0.272). Our study highlights that total fertilization failure in ICSI cycles is significantly associated with lower sperm concentration, reduced motility, and azoospermia. Despite similar baseline parameters and oocyte quality scores between the study and control groups, the study group experienced no successful fertilization. These findings suggest that sperm factors are more crucial than oocyte quality in predicting fertilization success. In conclusion, semen parameters, including lower sperm concentration and reduced motility, are key factors associated with total fertilization failure in ICSI cycles. These parameters should be closely monitored to identify patients at higher risk for total fertilization failure. Addressing these factors may improve fertilization outcomes and guide the development of targeted interventions to reduce total fertilization failure rates in future cycles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article revisits archival excavation records of the Roman garrison at Bu Njem. Past research on the archaeology of Bu Njem often considered the site in isolation from its extramural settlement and from the content of its ostraca, focusing on the morphology of the fort, and the composition of the garrison: this offers the opportunity to study the garrison as an extended military community in its interconnected social, cultural and economic settings. Since the completion of fieldwork led by Rebuffat between 1967 and 1980, there have been significant advances to the research on the Garamantes, the understanding of trade in the Sahara and the nature of Rome's North African frontiers. These advances allow for a rethinking of the interpretation of the evidence from Bu Njem. This article focuses on the archaeology of the military base and the extramural settlement. Building on existing research, the results add to interpretations of the activities in the garrison, recognise the urban character of the garrison settlement, and in doing so, improve our understanding of social and economic activities on the frontier. Objective: To test whether volume-based follicular output rate (FORT-V) is superior to diameter based follicular output rate (FORT-D) in predicting the number of mature oocytes. The follicular output rate (FORT) is the ratio between preovulatory follicle count (PFC) and antral follicle count (AFC) and has been proposed as a better predictor of the ovarian response compared with AFC alone.Design: A prospective observational study of 215 consecutive women (80 oocyte donors and 135 in vitro fertilization [IVF] patients) undergoing ovarian stimulation for IVF.Setting: University affiliated private IVF center.Patient(s): Women undergoing ovarian stimulation between May 2018 and September 2021.Intervention(s): Manual two-dimensional ultrasound and computer-generated (three-dimensional ultrasound, [3D]) AFCs were performed at baseline. During ovulation induction, follicular growth was monitored in each patient using both two-dimensional and 3D ultrasound. Preovulatory follicles were defined as those with a mean diameter of 16-22 mm. The trigger was based on the follicular volume according to our standard protocol: at least 2 follicles with a volume of >2 cc with 70% of the follicles having a volume of >0.7 cc.Main Outcome Measure(s): The primary outcome was the difference between FORT-V and FORT-D in their ability to predict the mature oocyte output rate.Result(s): In both IVF patients and oocyte donors, the computer-generated AFC was greater than the manual AFC. The FORT-V was higher than the FORT-D for both computer-generated (the difference was 35 [95% CI {confidence interval}, 32-45] in oocyte donors and 21 [95% CI, 5-46] in IVF patients) and manual FORT (the difference was 38 [95% CI, 32-45] in oocyte donors and 15 [95% CI, 3-43] in IVF patients) and was closer to the mature oocyte output rate. There was a direct correlation between the computer-generated AFC and the PFC based on volume and between PFC based on volume and the number of mature oocytes in oocyte donors and IVF patients.Conclusion(s): In this prospective study of 215 women, the FORT based on 3D ultrasound derived follicular volume (FORT-V) was superior to the FORT-D in determining the ovarian response in both oocyte donors and IVF patients. Moreover, our results support the non-inferiority of the computer-generated method compared with the manual method for the determination of AFC. Historic St. Mary’s City, an outdoor living history museum and research center, has been working on realigning its site narrative from a historically colonialist perspective towards a more inclusive, community-driven interpretive scheme. Two projects exemplify the development of this effort since 2018: the design of a long-term exhibition for a new visitor center and a collaborative initiative sparked by the archaeological discovery of the 1634 St. Mary’s Fort. Objective: Ovarian response indexes have been proposed in assisted reproductive technology (ART) in order to optimize live birth rates (LBR), adjusting ovarian stimulation (OS), and minimizing risks. Gonadotropin doses are commonly adjusted according to ovarian reserve parameters, including antral follicle count (AFC), anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH), and basal follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) levels. The retrospective assessment of ovarian responses allows one to identify three primary indexes: (i) follicular output rate (FORT), the ratio of the number of pre-ovulatory follicles obtained at OS completion over AFC; (ii) follicle oocyte index (FOI), the ratio of oocytes retrieved over AFC; (iii) ovarian sensitivity index (OSI), the ratio of oocytes retrieved over the total gonadotropin dose administered. In recent publications, these indexes were reported to predict ART outcome. In the present study, we assessed the ability of these indexes to predict cumulative ART outcome in women ≥39 years. Materials and Methods: Retrospective cohort study. All patients ≥39 years who performed their first ART cycle with an antagonist protocol in our center between 01/2018 and 04/2020 were included. Patients with basal FSH > 20 IU/l, AMH < 0.1 ng/mL and severe male factors (azoospermia with testicular biopsy) were excluded. All patients received both recombinant FSH and human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG). Cumulative live birth rate (cLBR) was the primary outcome. Secondary outcomes included: the number of MII oocytes, cumulative implantation (cIR), and usable blastulation rates. Logistic regressions were performed to assess the predictive values of FORT, FOI, and OSI in cLBR and embryo culture success. For each parameter, the ability of the logistic regression models to predict embryo culture success was quantified by the area under the ROC curve (AUC). Only the significant findings related to FORT, FOI, and OSI were included in the multiple logistic regression model. Linear regression models were performed between cIR, cLB, FORT, FOI, and OSI. Each statistic model was adjusted for age. Concerning OR for OSI, values were multiplied *100 due to the very low value. Results: 429 patients met the inclusion criteria. There were 298 obtained usable blastocysts after ART treatment. Age-adjusted OSI was significantly associated with cLBR [OR = 17.58 95% CI (5.48–56.40), AUC = 0.707 95% CI (0.651–0.758)) and cIR (beta = 30.22 (SE: 7.88), p < 0.001, R2= 0.060). Both FOI (OR = 6.33 95% CI (3.27–12.25), AUC = 0.725 95% CI (0.675–0.771), R2 = 0.090, p < 0.001) and OSI (OSI*100; OR = 1808.93 95% CI (159.24–19,335.13), AUC = 0.790 95% CI (0.747–0.833), R2 = 0.156, p < 0.001) were independently, when age adjusted, associated with embryo culture success. OSI showed a main performance to explain successful embryo culture than FOI (R2 = 0.156 vs. R2 = 0.090, p < 0.001). In the age-adjusted linear regression model, FOI (R2 = 0.159, p < 0.001), OSI (R2 = 0.606, p < 0.001), and FORT (r2 = 0.030, p < 0.001) were predictive of the number of MII oocytes collected. Furthermore, for OSI (r2 = 0.759, p < 0.001) and FOI (r2 = 0.297, p < 0.001), the correlation with the number of metaphase II oocytes collected was significantly higher in the non-linear regression model. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that the best index, among those analyzed, to predict cIR and cLBR, is OSI. Both OSI and FOI predict embryo culture with success, but OSI is more accurate. The Roman fort at Iža was a strategic advanced site of the Limes Romanus/Ripa Pannonica defence system opposite Brigetio, on the northern bank of the Danube. So far there have been no targeted researches about the direct documents concerning supply and communication modes used in this site (in the context of the adjacent defence system). Historical records and early archaeological researches described walled structures with various interpretations (cloaca, pier). According to their position with regard to river course, it is possible to assume that such structures were used for bank defence purposes or as constructions of an independent port. An alternative is proposed to the interpretation of the plan of Dalswinton Roman fort offered by W.S. Hanson and colleagues in their important study of the air-photographic, geophysical and LiDAR evidence published in Britannia in 2019. It is suggested that the larger, second-phase fort faced not east, but south, as previously thought, but that most of the remains of this layout have been removed by the plough. Abstract Background The antral follicle count is a marker of ovarian reserve. Follicular Output RaTe (FORT) evaluates the proportion of follicles responsive to exogenous follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) during controlled ovarian stimulation. Our objective was to evaluate whether the diameter (AFC6: ≤ 6 mm or AFC > 6: > 6 mm) of the follicular cohort could be a predictor for ovarian responsiveness, assessed by FORT, in a prospective cohort with 92 women with IVF indication, regular cycles and no abnormality in both ovaries. Results The mean age (±SD) of the women was 36.03 years (± 3.87 years), the median FORT was 43.30%. We found correlation between the FORT and AFC6 (r = − 0.237, P 0.023) but not between the FORT and AFC > 6 (r = − 0.055, P 0.602). Conclusions The inverse correlation between FORT and AFC6 suggests that those follicles were less responsive to the exogenous FSH.

Within this paper we publish a critical review of the state of research on the military bathhouses from Roman Dacia. Moreover, our aim is to also provide a broader regional survey. It comprises a short discussion of the history of research, emphasizing the importance of the essential contributions to the study of military baths in Dacia, as well as the importance of the regional studies and of the monographs of different archaeological sites. Therefore, we decided, to review and update our knowledge of the military bathhouses uncovered in the Dacian provinces. According to the current state of research, there are 39 balnea recorded, including baths located within the forts (praetorium), as well as extra muros, in the civilian settlements. Upon reviewing the evidence, the paper stresses the variety of the military balnea discovered and points out the differences between legionary and auxiliary baths, shedding light on some of the local features of these baths.

Introduction/Objective. We determined the impact of antioxidant supplementation by GE132R on sports performance, oxidative stress markers, and muscle enzymes activities in professional female basketball players. Methods. Repetitive strength, explosive power, anaerobic endurance, and agility performance were measured before/after the 45-day supplementation period. The FORT (Free Oxygen Radicals Test) and FORD analysis (Free Oxygen Radical Defense) were assessed before/after basketball specific exercise bout, at the beginning/end of observational period. The grade of muscle damage was evaluated by aspartate aminotransferase (AST), creatine kinase (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). Results. After supplementation period, significant difference was not recorded regarding the basic motor skills tests. Basketball specific exercise bout induced significant increase in FORT (p < 0.05) only at the beginning of supplementation period. Both FORT and FORD significantly decreased over the observational period (p < 0.001, p < 0.01, respectively). CK and LDH were remarkably lower at the end of observational period (p < 0.05), compared to the baseline. Conclusion. Exogenous supplementation with protective nutraceuticals such as those found in GE132R, could reduce acute/chronic oxidative stress and muscle damage, but had no effect on sport performance in basketball players. First record of the spider Tegenaria ferruginea (Panzer, 1804) from Belarus, along with taxonomic diagnosis and photographs are presented. Contrary to the expectations, males and females were found during overwintering in the silken sac in the fort of Brest, Belarus.

During the 2017 excavation season at Tel Kabri, Iron Age remains were found cutting into the western part of the Middle Bronze Age palace. These remains consisted of a segment of a large structure and a series of sizable pits. Similar Iron Age remains were unearthed during previous soundings in Areas D and F of the excavation and were loosely dated to the Iron Age II. The ceramic assemblage from these soundings demonstrated a disproportionate number of imports and cooking pots, which prompted the excavators to suggest that the lower settlement was engaged in the processing of agricultural products connected to the nearby forts located elsewhere on the tell. A recent re-examination of the pottery from the previous excavations suggest that the forts could have only existed during the Iron Age IIA and IIC. Our examination of the pottery indicates that the imports can be dated to the Iron Age IIA, while the large number of cooking pots should mostly be dated to the Iron Age IIC. We would therefore like to suggest a new interpretation for the function of the lower settlement at Kabri during the Iron Age II in relation to the forts and the political reality in the Galilee at that time. Chromosomal translocations are known genetic causes of premature ovarian insufficiency syndrome. Are certain translocations associated with decreased capacity of small antral follicles to respond to exogenous FSH? Does the prognosis after preimplantation genetic testing for structural rearrangements differ in couples with female or male translocation carriers and according to the type of translocation? A single-centre, retrospective, observational study covering a 10-year period. One hundred and thirty-nine females carrying a translocation were compared with 192 partners of male translocation carriers. To evaluate ovarian response to FSH, the follicular output rate was used, defined by ratio between the pre-ovulatory follicle count on day of HCG x 100/antral follicle count (AFC). To determine a cut-off of metaphase II oocytes and biopsied embryos as predictor of obtaining a balanced embryo transfer, receiver operator characteristic curves were plotted. A decreased capacity of small antral follicles to respond to exogenous FSH in female translocation carriers was found. The number of metaphase II oocytes in both groups was weakly informative as a predictor of obtaining an embryo transfer. The number of biopsied embryos had some clinical value, however, and allowed a cut-off of 6.5 to be determined for female translocation carriers versus 5.5 for the partners of male translocation carriers. Live birth rates, however, were not different between female and male translocations carriers. Female translocation carriers may respond poorly to ovarian stimulation, and present a higher rate of unbalanced embryos, which means that higher gonadotrophin doses may be required to increase the number of biopsied embryos. Karunguzhi fort is a heritage site and it was built on the bank of Kiliyar River in the 17th Century A.D by the Mohammedans. This fort is built in black granite with lofty brick walls and surrounded by Rampart wall. The heritage fort is in dilapidated condition and was used as a godown to store grains collected as tax from the small (Jamindars). The present fort is in ruines in an area spread across 15 acres. The fort has high potential as adaptive conservation by using it for educational tourism on ecosystem and its protection, local culture, show casing ancient fort, godown to store grains facilities as evidenced through archeological studies. Early Byzantine fort Σίκλαι (Siclae) was recorded by the historian Procopius in his Buildings, more precisely, in the list for Macedonia from Book IV. Procopius’ form of the place name confirms the disappearance of the unstressed vowel in the penult as one of the most important features in Vulgar Latin phonetics. Apart from considering the morphological peculiarities of the toponym, the present article also focuses on a more detailed examination of its etymology. To this effect, two equally possible solutions regarding the origin of the name are presented. According to the first one, the appellative sicla/sikla forms the basis of this toponym, which is the Vulgar Latin variant of the noun situla, denoting a ‘bucket, pail, jug, pitcher’. The other possibility, equally strong, is that this toponym is related to the name of the Illyrian tribe Siculi/Siculotae (Σικελοί).

The Roman fort of Apsaros in Gonio (Adjara, Georgia) still holds answers to many issues connected with the Roman military presence on the Chorokhi river in ancient Colchis. In 2014, a Polish team joined the Georgian expedition to carry out excavation in two sectors diretly east of the centrally located principia. The sites were chosen based on a study of the results of geophysical prospection carried out in 2012. Two phases, dated to the early and late Roman periods respectively, were recorded. The early Roman architecture was interpreted as part of the installations and structures of a large bathhouse (balneae), including a mosaic floor in one of the rooms. The building was destroyed at least twice, most likely in a catastrophic fire. The article discusses the stratigraphy and the dating of the early Roman balneae based on glass artifacts and coins.

The management of low prognosis patients in ART represents a challenge for reproductive specialists. Different profiles and biologic characteristics have been identified among these patients. Indeed, while poor ovarian response can be seen in patients with impaired ovarian reserve, others, identified as hypo-responders, show unexpected poor or suboptimal response to controlled ovarian stimulation despite satisfying ovarian parameters. These hypo-responders are associated during FSH stimulation to slow initial responses in terms of estradiol levels and follicle growth, longer stimulations, and/or greater cumulative FSH doses. Hence, it appears that ovarian sensitivity to gonadotropins differs from a patient to another, and plays a determinant role on ovarian response to stimulation. Although precise mechanisms remain to be elucidated, increasing evidence suggests that ovarian sensitivity to FSH could be influenced by the presence of genetic mutations or single nucleotide polymorphisms of gonadotropins and their receptors. Evaluating ovarian sensitivity to FSH therefore appears as a key element to improve IVF success rates in these low prognosis patients and open new treatment perspectives. Since the traditional ovarian markers currently used are not sufficient to accurately reflect ovarian response to FSH, a tool to assess ovarian sensitivity to gonadotropin stimulation was required. The present review aims to present Follicular Output Rate (FORT) as an efficient quantitative and qualitative marker of ovarian responsiveness to gonadotropins, discuss the underlying mechanisms of impaired sensitivity to FSH and the possible FORT implications for Poseidon criteria.

The group of medieval beakers and pots from special hard fired clay and nearly impermeable material is characterized by its reddish, with small blisters and bubbles covered surface. These vessels were made in the North Moravian Loštice near Mohelnice and the bloom of their production dates back to the 14th and then to the 15th and 16th centuries. According to recent archaeometric analyses and experiments the mystery of this material resided in the argillaceous pottery clay with the addition of garnet (pyrope or almandine). Loštice beakers ranked among sought-after and popular table dishes even behind the borders of the Czech Lands. Among pottery material from archaeological excavations carried out by Vlasta Fialová in the fort of Kralice nad Oslavou, a small collection of fragments of Loštice pottery was identified. Pot-shaped beakers build a minority whereas shards of Loštice kitchen ceramics and storage vases prevail. A part of pot fragments is not made from the characteristic hard fired material but is baked only slightly and contains graphite admixture. Some pieces of undecorated bellies of storage vases show secondary baking. Based on ceramic types the material is dated to the early phase of Loštice pottery, at the end of the 14th and in the first half of the 15th century. This paper evaluates yet not published findings of Renaissance stove tiles with a dolphin motif from the archaeological excavation in the area of the former Metropol Hotel in the Brno suburb of Dornych. We will try to compare these stove tiles with already published Brno specimens, with fragments of stove tiles from the fort in Bošovice near Brno and with recently published pieces from the research of Vlasta Fialová at the fort in Kralice nad Oslavou. During the 19th century, the U.S. government took ownership of Dakota homelands in Minnesota and the Dakota Territory, leading to increasingly violent conflicts and decades of war. Military and militia forts were built at the physical boundaries of contested space to push "hostiles" west and to protect European American settlers. Fort Wadsworth, constructed in South Dakota during the 1864 Dakota Campaign, and Fort Juelson, built in 1876 by Norwegian immigrants during an "Indian scare" in Minnesota, were both knowingly constructed on top of burial mounds, appropriating and reshaping sacred Native American landscapes into protective enclosures for the dominating, yet fearful, colonizers. Aerial laser scanning, geophysical survey, and historical research explore the archaeological expression and significance of these interlocked landscapes at geographic and cognitive frontiers.
