Critical genes involved in embryonic development are often transcription factors, regulating many downstream genes. LMX1B is a homeobox gene that is involved in formation of the limbs, eyes and kidneys, heterozygous loss‐of‐function sequence variants and deletions cause Nail‐Patella syndrome. Most of the reported variants are localised within the gene's coding sequence, however, approximately 5%–10% of affected individuals do not have a pathogenic variant identified within this region. In this study, we present a family with four affected individuals across two generations with a deletion spanning a conserved upstream LMX1B‐binding sequence. This deletion is de novo in the mother of three affected children. Furthermore, in this family, the manifestations appear limited to the nails and limbs, and therefore may reflect an attenuated phenotype of the classic Nail‐Patella phenotype that includes ophthalmological and renal manifestations. Informal business activity is ubiquitous around the world, but it is nearly always uncaptured by administrative data, registries, or commercial sources. For this reason, there are rarely adequate sampling frames available for survey implementers wishing to measure the activity and characteristics of the sector. This article applies a well-established sampling method for rare and/or clustered populations, Adaptive Cluster Sampling (ACS), to a novel population of informal businesses. Generally, it shows that efficiency gains through the application of ACS, when compared to Simple Random Sampling (SRS), are large, particularly at higher levels of fieldwork effort. In particular, ACS efficiency gains over SRS remain sizable at higher values of initial starting samples, but with comparatively high expansion thresholds, which can reduce the fieldwork effort. To report a rare case of keratitis due to monkeypox infection. A 45-year-old male presented with an epithelial corneal ulcer 20 days following initial diagnosis of monkeypox from genital and perioral lesions. PCR analysis of the epithelium confirmed the presence of human monkeypox virus. The patient was hospitalized, and ganciclovir gel, as well as povidone iodine 0.6% and moxifloxacin eyedrops were prescribed. Oral tecovirimat 600 mg was administered during 14 days. A therapeutic contact lens was used. Twenty days after the initial diagnosis of keratitis, the corneal defect closed leaving a faint subepithelial haze, and visual acuity was 0.8. This is an uncommon case report of epithelial keratitis due to human monkeypox. PCR positivity for monkeypox in the corneal epithelium confirmed the presence of viral material in the cornea. Purpose Method Results Conclusions To report on the outcomes of amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT) for corneal ulceration following infectious keratitis.In this retrospective cohort study of 654 patients with culture-proven infectious keratitis from 8 hospitals in Galicia (Spain), a total of 43 eyes of 43 patients (6.6%) underwent AMT for postinfectious corneal ulceration. The indications for AMT were sterile persistent epithelial defects, severe corneal thinning or perforation.AMT was successful in 62.8% of cases, with 37.2% requiring an additional surgery. Median time to healing was 40.0 days (IQR 24.2–101.7 days) and final BCVA was lower than baseline (p = 0.001). Ulcers were large (>3 mm) in 55.8% of cases. Previous herpetic keratitis and topical steroid use were more common in patients who received AMT (p < 0.001). 49 microorganisms (43 bacteria and 6 fungi) were isolated.AMT is a therapeutic option for complications following infectious keratitis, which present with a sterile persistent epithelial defect, significant corneal thinning or perforation. Epiretinal membrane (ERM) formation is a known postoperative complication following retinal detachment (RD) repair surgery. Prophylactic peeling of the internal limiting membrane (ILM) during surgery has been shown to reduce the risk of developing postoperative ERM formation. Some baseline characteristics and degrees of surgical complexity may act as risk factors for ERM development. In this review we aimed to investigate the benefit of ILM peeling in patients without significant proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) who underwent pars plana vitrectomy for RD repair. A literature search using PubMed and various keywords retrieved relevant papers from which data were extracted and analyzed. Finally, the results of 12 observational studies (3420 eyes) were summarized. ILM peeling significantly reduced the risk of postoperative ERM formation (RR = 0.12, 95% CI 0.05–0.28). The groups did not differ in final visual acuity (SMD 0.14 logMAR (95% CI − 0.03–0.31)). The risk of RD recurrence (RR = 0.51, 95% CI 0.28–0.94) and the need for secondary ERM surgery (RR = 0.05, 95% CI 0.02–0.17) were also higher in the non-ILM peeling groups. In summary, although prophylactic ILM peeling appears to reduce the rate of postoperative ERM, this benefit does not translate into consistent visual recovery across studies and potential complications must be considered. Among bilinguals, language-related variables such as first and second language proficiency and balance may be related to important cognitive and academic outcomes, but approaches to characterizing these variables are inconsistent, particularly among at-risk samples of children. The current study employed comprehensive language assessment of English and Spanish language skills and contrasted various approaches to the characterization of language among at-risk ELs in middle school (N = 161). Specifically, we contrasted variable-centered and person-centered approaches, and convergence between objective and self-report measures. Findings support a two-factor structure of English and Spanish language skills in this population, three profiles of students (balanced, moderately unbalanced-higher Spanish, and very unbalanced-higher English), convergence between variable-centered and person-centered approaches, and mixed support for subjective indices of usage. Results provide a foundation from which to examine the roles of L1 and L2 proficiency as well as balance in important cognitive and academic outcomes in this at-risk and understudied population. Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) was conceived as a structural intervention to fundamentally reorganise the South African economy and address persistent economic inequalities. South Africa has the world's highest income inequality, and this is reflected by vast inequalities in salaries and wages both between high and low earners, but importantly between different race and gender groups. Despite a plethora of legislation aimed at addressing inequality in ownership (such as B-BBEE) and in the workplace (employment equity legislation), women and Black workers in South Africa continue to be paid less than men and white employees, even when doing the same work (the pay gap), and are more likely to work in precarious, low-paid jobs (occupational segregation). These factors are driven by differences in the characteristics of workers, and by structural discrimination in the economy. Conceptually, we can decompose structural discrimination into two forms -- that which discriminates against people who do the same job, based on race and gender (the pay gap) -- and that which discriminates indirectly by occupational segregation -- blacks and women concentrated in low paying occupations. In this paper, we ask whether B-BBEE -- while not explicitly a labour market intervention -- has had any positive impact in reducing labour market inequalities. We review the literature on occupational segregation and the gender and race pay gaps in post-apartheid South Africa, and examine the various policy interventions, with a particular focus on B-BBEE, that have attempted to address this enduring problem. Seaweeds are rich in essential dietary minerals, often lacking in terrestrial plant foods, with interest in Australian seaweeds rapidly increasing. We screened six Australian brown seaweeds with commercial potential for dietary mineral composition: Cystophora torulosa, Caulocystis uvifera, Durvillaea potatorum, Ecklonia radiata, Hormosira banksii and Phyllospora comosa. Spatial replicates of each species were collected from three non-urbanised sites remote from pollution sources and processed for human consumption. Dried samples were analysed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) for 12 essential dietary minerals. Overall dietary mineral composition differed significantly amongst all species, except between sargassaceous species C. torulosa and C. uvifera; but concentrations of individual elements varied in complex ways. All species investigated had high concentrations of dietary minerals essential for optimal human health if consumed in realistic quantities (e.g. 10 g day−1 DW) as part of balanced diets, including the most common dietary minerals deficient in humans (iodine, iron, zinc, magnesium, calcium and selenium): iodine (888 ± 100 mg kg−1 DW) and zinc were highest in P. comosa; iron and calcium were highest in C. torulosa, but calcium was also high in E. radiata, H. banksii and D. potatorum; magnesium was highest in H. banksii, D. potatorum and P. comosa; selenium concentrations exceeded those previously reported for seaweeds for all species, except D. potatorum. The best nutritional outcomes may be achieved by regularly consumption of a diversity of seaweed species. However, further investigation into ways to reduce iodine content in some species may be required to maximise health benefits from regular consumption of these Australian seaweeds. Prior research supports the need for elementary-aged students with reading difficulties (RDs) to receive explicit systematic small-group evidence-based reading instruction. Yet for many students, simply receiving evidence-based reading instruction in a small-group setting is insufficient to reach the progress milestones needed to meet grade-level reading standards. The current study examined whether (a) elementary school students with RD constitute homogeneous or heterogeneous groups when considering their basic language and cognitive skills (using a latent profile analysis) and (b) latent profiles are predictive of response to reading comprehension instruction (using a mixed modeling approach). The sample consisted of 335 students, including students with RD and typical students (n = 57). The results revealed heterogeneity within students with RD—there were two distinct profiles, with one having higher basic language (reading fluency and decoding) and cognitive (verbal domain productivity, cognitive flexibility, and working memory) skills and lower attention skills and the other having stronger attention skills and lower basic language and cognitive skills. The findings also suggested that latent profiles were predictive of response to reading comprehension instruction. Our results provide a convincing argument for leading the field in the direction of developing customized interventions. It is conceivable, but remains to be further examined, that researchers and educators could potentially improve reading outcomes through providing a customized reading intervention to a student based on their cognitive–language profile. Educational Impact and Implications Statement: Although there are a few studies that previously classified students with reading difficulties into latent profiles using broadly conceptualized language and reading skills, there are no studies that simultaneously used cognitive–language skills, including attention, to examine heterogeneity among elementary school students with reading difficulties. Furthermore, there are no studies that investigated latent profiles as predictors of the response to instruction. In this study, we identified two distinct profiles, with one having higher basic language and cognitive skills and lower attention skills and the other having stronger attention skills and lower basic language and cognitive skills. The results suggested that latent profiles were predictive of response to reading instruction. Our findings expand what is known about customized interventions—it is conceivable that researchers and educators who consider the cognitive–language profiles of students may provide more responsive instruction and bring about improved student outcomes. There are many aspects of words that can influence our lexical processing, and the words we are exposed to influence our opportunities for language and reading development. The purpose of this study is to establish a more comprehensive understanding of the lexical challenges and opportunities students face. We explore the latent relationships of word features across three established word lists: the General Service List, Academic Word List, and discipline-specific word lists from the Academic Vocabulary List. We fit exploratory factor models using 22 non-behavioral, empirical measures to three sets of vocabulary words: 2,060 high-frequency words, 1,051 general academic words, and 3,413 domain-specific words. We found Frequency, Complexity, Proximity, Polysemy, and Diversity were largely stable factors across the sets of high-frequency and general academic words, but that the challenge facing learners is structurally different for domain-specific words. Despite substantial stability, there are important differences in the latent lexical features that learners encounter. In the first years of life, infants progressively develop attention selection skills to gather information from visually clustered environments. As young as newborns, infants are sensitive to the distinguished differences in color, orientation, and luminance, which are the components of visual saliency. However, we know little about how saliency-driven attention emerges and develops socially through everyday free-viewing experiences. The present work assessed the saliency change in infants' egocentric scenes and investigated the impacts of manual engagements on infant object looking in the interactive context of object play. Thirty parent-infant dyads, including infants in two age groups (younger: 3- to 6-month-old; older: 9- to 12-month-old), completed a brief session of object play. Infants' looking behaviors were recorded by the head-mounted eye-tracking gear, and both parents' and infants' manual actions on objects were annotated separately for analyses. The present findings revealed distinct attention mechanisms that underlie the hand-eye coordination between parents and infants and within infants during object play: younger infants are predominantly biased toward the characteristics of the visual saliency accompanying the parent's handled actions on the objects; on the other hand, older infants gradually employed more attention to the object, regardless of the saliency in view, as they gained more self-generated manual actions. Taken together, the present work highlights the tight coordination between visual experiences and sensorimotor competence and proposes a novel dyadic pathway to sustained attention that social sensitivity to parents' hands emerges through saliency-driven attention, preparing infants to focus, follow, and steadily track moving targets in free-flow viewing activities. Purpose: This study examined the relationship between utterance length, syntactic complexity, and the probability of making an error at the utterance level. Method: The participants in this study included 830 Spanish-speaking first graders who were learning English at school. Story retells in both Spanish and English were collected from all children. Generalized mixed linear models were used to examine within-child and between-children effects of utterance length and subordination on the probability of making an error at the utterance level. Results: The relationship between utterance length and grammaticality was found to differ by error type (omission vs. commission), language (Spanish vs. English), and level of analysis (within-child vs. between-children). For errors of commission, the probability of making an error increased as a child produced utterances that were longer relative to their average utterance length (within-child effect). Contrastively, for errors of omission, the probability of making an error decreased when a child produced utterances that were longer relative to their average utterance length (within-child effect). In English, a child who produced utterances that were, on average, longer than the average utterance length for all children produced more errors of commission and fewer errors of omission (between-children effect). This between-children effect was similar in Spanish for errors of commission but nonsignificant for errors of omission. For both error types, the within-child effects of utterance length were moderated by the use of subordination. Conclusion: The relationship between utterance length and grammaticality is complex and varies by error type, language, and whether the frame of reference is the child's own language (within-child effect) or the language of other children (between-children effect). In 2019, South Africa implemented a national minimum wage (NMW) for the first time. This is an important intervention, given that the South African labour market continues to generate some of the highest levels of income and wealth inequality in the world. The minimum wage is intended as a structural intervention to transform the labour market by setting a wage floor, while highlighting larger issues that continue to reproduce inequality in the labour market. The process raises interesting questions about the role of social dialogue in the policy making process, especially at a time when the roles of experts and evidence are contested in political economy. This article reviews the national minimum wage process from two angles: assessing the economic evidence and examining the political economy of minimum wages in South Africa. We take this approach in order to better understand the roles of evidence and politics in the policy making process. While both processes were contested, important differences emerge from the analysis: the economic lens highlights the intersection of evidence and ideology, while a political economy review identifies important lines of contestation in the policy making process itself. The national minimum wage process shows that institutionalised social dialogue continues to be a central part of the policy making process, but that it cannot be taken for granted: the particular configuration of the social dialogue process and the roles assigned to each player matter. Many states now mandate early screening for dyslexia, but vary in how they address these mandates. There is confusion about the nature of screening versus diagnostic assessments, risk versus diagnosis, concurrent versus predictive validity, and inattention to indices of classification accuracy as the basis for determining risk. To help define what constitutes a screening assessment, we summarize efforts to develop short (3–5 min), teacher-administered screens that used multivariate strategies for variable selection, item response theory to select items that are most discriminating at a threshold for predicting risk, and statistical decision theory. These methods optimize prediction and lower the burden on teachers by reducing the number of items needed to evaluate risk. A specific goal of these efforts was to minimize decision errors that would result in the failure to identify a child as at risk of dyslexia/reading problems (false negatives) despite the inevitable increase in identifications of children who eventually perform in the typical range (false positives). Five screens, developed for different periods during kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 2, predicted outcomes measured later in the same school year (Grade 2) or in the subsequent year (Grade 1). The results of this approach to development are applicable to other screening methods, especially those that attempt to predict those children at risk of dyslexia prior to the onset of reading instruction. Without reliable and valid early predictive screening measures that reduce the burden on teachers, early intervention and prevention of dyslexia and related reading problems will be difficult. Background/Objectives: As surgical techniques evolve, there remains underutilisation of secondary intention healing as a valid reconstruction option. This is largely due to concerns regarding inferiority of wound cosmesis, increased downtime with wound healing and infection risk (Dermatol Surg. 2020; 46(12): 1492–97). Methods: We sought to look at the outcome of secondary intention healing in a cohort of patients seen at a private dermatology practice with small to medium sized scalp defects. All patients completed a satisfaction survey that further evaluated its feasibility. Results: Excellent cosmetic outcome was noted with secondary intention healing for small to medium scalp defects, specifically in patients with thinning scalps that allowed healing without patchy alopecia. Seasonal changes in water temperature affect the utilization of dietary fatty acids in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.). Furthermore, fatty acid profiles of terrestrial oils dictate their suitability in terms of provision of metabolic energy and final product quality. An on‐farm, growth trial of Atlantic salmon was conducted in Tasmania, Australia over the final year of grow‐out (323 days), consisting of a 'summer phase' and a 'winter phase'. Poultry by‐product oil, canola oil and tallow were fed at high dietary lipid inclusion level (80%) to assess growth, fillet fatty acid composition and sensorial attributes. In the summer phase, the tallow diet appeared to provide added substrate for metabolic energy, potentially enhancing the deposition of n‐3 LC PUFA into the fillet, despite lower final weight and a reduced apparent lipid digestibility. Subsequent winter phase results suggested all diets adequately provided metabolic energy and fillet n‐3 LC PUFA concentrations were comparable. Additionally, this study highlights the importance of a well‐considered experimental design and subsequent statistical interpretation, for commercial scale, on‐farm feeding trials. Ultimately, this study demonstrates the importance of seasonally tailored diets for Atlantic salmon, using high terrestrial oil inclusion, under challenging Australian farming conditions. • Temperature changes altered fish ectoparasite reproductive traits. • Neobenedenia girellae laid larger, more nutritionally-rich eggs under cool conditions. • Reproduction rates increased under warm conditions. • Egg volume showed strong, positive correlations with several high-energy materials. This study quantified the effects of temperature on reproduction and maternal provisioning of the ectoparasite, Neobenedenia girellae (Platyhelminthes: Monogenea), a species known to cause detrimental impacts to aquaculture fishes in tropical and subtropical environments worldwide. At 20 and 25 °C, parasites exhibited relatively slower production of larger eggs that were energy-dense. In contrast, parasites at 30 °C attained sexual maturity faster, were reproductively active over a shorter period, grew to a smaller size and laid smaller, less energy-rich eggs at a faster rate. As such, parasites exhibited two distinct reproductive patterns in response to temperature: parasites at lower temperatures produced larger eggs with higher energy content, while those at the higher temperature had a higher rate of egg production. Larger eggs produced under cooler conditions were better provisioned with energetic reserves and important, membrane-bound lipids that would likely facilitate larval longevity and development success. This is commensurate with previous observations of epizootics of this parasite species in aquaculture systems during winter. Meanwhile, eggs produced at 30 °C contained higher proportions of saturated fatty acids compared with polyunsaturated fatty acids, likely reflecting metabolic regulation of cell membrane fluidity, which is necessary for larvae to survive warm conditions. This study demonstrates that fish ectoparasites have evolved substantial reproductive and metabolic flexibility to maximise infection success under variable environmental conditions. Purpose: This study aimed to examine changes in English and Spanish morphosyntactic standardized scores over time in bilingual children. Method: One hundred bilingual children participated in this longitudinal study. The average age of the children at the beginning of the study was 5;11 (years;months). A subset of the participants was identified as children with developmental language disorder (DLD, n = 43). Children completed behavioral testing in Spanish and English at three time points over a period of 2 years. Growth curve modeling was employed to analyze longitudinal data. Results: Distinct patterns of Spanish and English language growth were observed. While the average standard score in English increased, the average score in Spanish decreased over time for both groups. Children with DLD showed persistent language difficulties in both Spanish and English over time in comparison to their peers. Conclusions: The results of this study provide evidence of a shift in language proficiency from Spanish to English for bilingual children with and without language disorders. This study also shows that bilingual children with DLD show a protracted but parallel growth in morphosyntactic skills in comparison to children without DLD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Office-based steroid injection has shown promise for idiopathic subglottic stenosis (iSGS). It is important to understand safety and patient-lived experience. We report patient experience related to airway restriction, voice, and side effects. Methods: Sixteen patients (51 ± 14 years) with mild-moderate (20-50%) stenosis undergoing office-based transnasal steroid injections were included; fourteen had prior operations. Patients typically underwent three injections, 1 month apart, followed by transnasal tracheoscopy 1 month later to evaluate outcome; number of injections can vary based on disease severity and response. Outcomes were Dyspnea Index (DI), Modified Medical Research Council (MMRC) dyspnea scale, voice handicap index-10 (VHI-10), and degree of stenosis (estimated from procedural video). At each visit, patients were queried about post-injection airway restriction and side effects. Paired t -tests compared values at baseline versus follow-up tracheoscopy. Results: DI decreased (t = 3.938, P = 0.0013), as did MMRC (t = 2.179, P = 0.0457). There was no change in VHI-10 (t = 1.354; P = 0.1957) scores. Airway stenosis decreased (t = 4.331; P = 0.0006); this was not correlated with change in DI (r = 0.267, P = 0.318). Side effects included airway restriction lasting <48 hours (n = 5), cough (n = 3), and nasal pain (n = 2). Conclusion: Steroid injections improved upper airway symptoms. South Africa is a paradox; on the one hand, it is one of the most unequal countries in the world. Half of all South Africans continue to live in poverty, economic growth has stagnated and inflation remains high, while the unemployment rate continues to climb towards 30%. On the other hand, it has one of the most progressive constitutions in the world, with a bill of rights that foregrounds expanded socioeconomic rights. We provide an overview of the latest statistics on poverty and inequality in light of overarching economic policies, and the socioeconomic guarantees of the Constitution. We argue that South Africa's inability to meaningfully address the high levels of inequality is due to insufficient attention to the way power reproduces inequality. We present a definition of power that includes social and market power, and emphasise the importance of a theory of power in understanding the reproduction of inequality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examined the initial efficacy of World Generation (WorldGen), a Tier I social studies instructional approach for emergent bilingual (EB) students and their native English‐speaking (non‐EB) peers in Grades 6 and 7. WorldGen builds on prior research on instructional practices that have been associated with improved content knowledge and literacy outcomes for EBs in classes of students with varying English proficiency. Using a within‐teacher design, middle grades world history teachers' classes were randomly assigned to WorldGen treatment (17) or comparison conditions (16) for three to four approximately two‐week units. The student sample included 42% EBs. Students in the treatment condition (n = 373) scored higher, on average, on world history content (Hedges' g = 0.47) and vocabulary knowledge (Hedges' g = 0.41) than students in the comparison condition (n = 343) but no statistically significant findings were yielded regarding disciplinary literacy skills at the end of WorldGen instruction. Of primary interest, the statistically significant main effects indicated that world history content knowledge and vocabulary learning was similar for both current EB and non‐EB students in the treatment condition. The findings provide initial support for the use of the WorldGen instructional practices for improving content acquisition and vocabulary in general education social studies classes with students with a range of English proficiency. Furthermore, teachers perceived the WorldGen instructional practices and materials as providing the information and learning experiences necessary to support students in meeting grade‐level expectations. Articles in this issue examine (1) the primary sources of variability in reading and language achievement among Spanish‐speaking English learners (ELs) in the United States, (2) the extent to which poor performance at the end of grade 2 is identifiable in developmental trajectories beginning in kindergarten, (3) the relations among core reading constructs of phonological awareness and decoding in both English and Spanish and the factors that affect their relationship, (4) the performance of different approaches to identification and the factors that influence how well they work, as well as (5) the growing literature focused on intervention for reading problems in this population. This article examines the literature on language minority students and disability identification and analyzes a large‐scale longitudinal dataset (>4,000 ELs; >15,000 observations) to systematically characterize and describe the oral language and reading development of Spanish‐speaking children designated as ELs from kindergarten to second grade, considering a range of factors that may potentially contribute to that characterization and its relation to academic performance. This systematic characterization should facilitate the development of an empirical basis for a theoretically grounded framework of typical development in ELs in order to more precisely identify those children with language and learning disabilities. Purpose: The general aim of this study is to enhance our understanding of the patterns of language growth in Spanish and English during the school years. In this study, we used a longitudinal retrospective approach to explore the growth of the percentage of grammatical utterances (PGU) in both Spanish and English in 2 groups of English learners (ELs): ELs attending English-only instruction and ELs attending Spanish-English bilingual instruction. Method: The participants included 1,080 ELs. ELs produced at least 3 story retells in both Spanish and English between kindergarten and 2nd grade. All stories were transcribed and coded for errors, and PGU was calculated for each story. Results: At the onset of the study, children showed higher PGU in Spanish and lower PGU in English. Growth curve analysis indicated that PGU in English improved over time, whereas PGU in Spanish declined in both instructional groups. However, those children who were in bilingual programs showed a slower rate of decline in Spanish PGU and a slower rate of improvement in English PGU. By the age of 9 years, children in English-only programs had approximately a Spanish PGU of 65% in Spanish, whereas children in bilingual instruction had an average Spanish PGU of 80%. The improvement in English PGU was steady with a small difference in the rate of growth benefiting children in English-only programs. Conclusion: The results of this study document a shift in language proficiency from Spanish to English during the school years. This study offers evidence of a temporary period of relatively low grammaticality in both languages that seems to be the result of a shift in proficiency from Spanish to English. Abstract A common strategy for aquafeed manufacturers has been the utilisation of relatively large amounts of terrestrial, both animal and plant, oil sources to produce diets with a high energy content. The provision of high fat diets is aimed at promoting the utilisation of energy from lipid, thus increasing the amount of dietary protein used for tissue synthesis. However, in recent years the cost of marine sourced dietary lipids has risen, at the same time, farming operations are under increasing pressure to limit environmental degradation associated with nitrogenous waste effluent. Currently there is limited information available regarding the environmental and economic impacts of an altered dietary protein: lipid ratio in diets for large Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) reared in seawater, presenting a potential impediment for nutritional based solutions. Accordingly the present study compared two isoenergetic diets with varied protein: lipid ratios via an assessment of growth, fatty acid utilisation, human nutritional quality, nitrogenous waste output and economic considerations. The trial diets were fed to the fish for the final 150 days of an on-farm grow-out period and resulted in minimal differences in fish growth, fatty acid utilisation and fillet quality. A decreased dietary protein: lipid ratio resulted in a more efficient protein utilisation both in terms of digestibility and assimilation into fish and, therefore, nitrogenous waste output was reduced. However, due to small differences in feed utilisation, the cost of fish production was numerically higher. Abstract There is a growing trend of 'replacing' long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (n-3 LC PUFA) rich oils with C 18 shorter-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid rich oils in Atlantic salmon aquafeed formulations. n-3 LC PUFA, including 20:5n-3 and 22:6n-3, play contrasting physiological roles and are metabolised differently in comparison to C 18 PUFA. Accordingly, the present study recorded the effect of replacing n-3 LC PUFA rich dietary fish oil with C 18 n-3 PUFA rich camelina oil at two inclusion levels in commercial-like diets fed to market-sized Atlantic salmon. This assessment was achieved by an analysis of industry relevant production parameters including growth performance, fatty acid composition and metabolism, nutrient digestibility and consumer acceptance (liking and attribute analysis of fillet). The trial was conducted over the final 150 days of an on-farm grow-out period in seawater. The dietary replacement of n-3 LC PUFA with C 18 n-3 PUFA resulted in a significant decrease in fillet n-3 LC PUFA and a poorer growth performance. However, in the absence of fish oil, the inclusion of camelina oil at high levels (40%) contributed to an improved n-6/n-3 ratio and partially ameliorated low dietary n-3 LC PUFA by providing added substrate for endogenous n-3 LC PUFA synthesis in comparison to a 20% camelina oil inclusion. Furthermore, consumer acceptance of Atlantic salmon was unaffected by the dietary addition of camelina oil. Abstract Rendered terrestrial animal by-product meals (ABPM) are commonly used in aquafeeds for fish and shrimp. However, the nutrient composition and digestibility of these products is often variable due to differing processing conditions. As such, the aquafeed industry could benefit from technologies that rapidly assess the nutritional quality of ABPM prior to purchase and their incorporation into aquafeeds. To be useful, new technologies would need to accurately reflect the results of traditional assays such as in-vivo apparent digestibility. This study presents a comparison of three methods for assessing the protein digestibility of poultry by-product meals (PBMs) that were subjected to different cooking temperatures (between 110 °C to 145 °C) and pre-rendering storage times (between 0 and 8 h). The first method was a traditional in-vivo assessment of digestibility based on indirect techniques and the collection of faecal material from Barramundi (Lates calcarifer). The second was the in-vitro pepsin nitrogen digestibility assay applied at pepsin concentrations of 0.2% and 0.0002%, respectively. The third method employed a two-step, membrane bioreactor (also known as a gastro intestinal model or GIM), based on digestive enzymes collected from the gut of Barramundi. In-vivo protein digestibility of PBMs ranged from 57% to 83%, being lowest in PBM that had been purposely overheated (145 °C) and highest in PBM subjected to the lowest cooking temperature (110 °C). In-vivo amino acid digestibility followed similar trends. Estimates of protein digestibility and protein hydrolysis based on the pepsin assays and the GIM were highly correlated with in-vivo protein ADCs. Estimated protein digestibility based on the pepsin assays was similar in magnitude to those determined in-vivo. Estimates of protein digestibility based on the GIM (protein hydrolysis) were highly correlated with the other methods, but the values estimated using GIM were much lower. Despite this discrepancy the GIM data could be modelled with a high degree of certainty using quadratic functions, and these functions could be used to reliably estimate digestibility of protein from PBMs, at least for the data generated in this study. All methods were sensitive enough to distinguish between PBMs that had been carefully treated prior to rendering or PBM that had been purposely overheated. The use of GIM technology requires further development, however it offers a great deal of promise and the opportunity to rapidly assess the protein quality of many different raw materials. This study leverages advances in multivariate cross-classified random effects models to extend the Simple View of Reading to account for variation within readers and across texts, allowing for both the personalization of the reading function and the integration of the component skills and text and discourse frameworks for reading research. We illustrate the Complete View of Reading (CVRi) using data from an intensive longitudinal design study with a large sample of typical (N = 648) and struggling readers (N = 865) in middle school and using oral reading fluency as a proxy for comprehension. To illustrate the utility of the CVRi, we present a model with cross-classified random intercepts for students and passages and random slopes for growth, Lexile difficulty, and expository text type at the student level. We highlight differences between typical and struggling readers and differences across students in different grades. The model illustrates that readers develop differently and approach the reading task differently, showing differential impact of text features on their fluency. To be complete, a model of reading must be able to reflect this heterogeneity at the person and passage level, and the CVRi is a step in that direction. Purpose To describe the demographic data, evaluate the long-term refractive and anatomical outcomes, and report the incidence of complications of anterior iris (prepupillary) and posterior iris (retropupillary) fixation of the Artisan aphakia iris-claw intraocular lens (IOL). Setting Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Design Retrospective case series. Methods Patients who had iris-claw IOL implantation were divided into 2 groups: Group 1 (prepupillary) and Group 2 (retropupillary). The corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), anatomical changes, endothelial cell count (ECC), presence of cystoid macular edema (CME), and operative and postoperative complications were determined. Results The study comprised 95 eyes of 95 patients. Fifty-seven patients had prepupillary implantation and 38 patients had retropupillary implantation. Indications for surgery were IOL luxation or subluxation (n = 24), lens luxation or subluxation (n = 17), trauma (n = 15), aphakia (n = 30), and other (n = 9). The CDVA improved significantly in both groups and there were no differences between them. A significant ECC reduction was observed in both groups, with no differences between them. The incidence of CME was 16.1% (21.8% in the prepupillary group and 7.9% in the retropupillary group at 3 months and 8 months, respectively), although the difference was not statistically significant. Other postoperative complications were rare and no differences were found between groups. Conclusions Irrespective of location, the iris-claw IOL provided good visual outcomes with few complications. However, prepupillary IOL implantation seemed to contribute to greater endothelial cell loss and earlier onset of CME. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

At his death in April 2014, Stephen Hester left behind an unfinished manuscript of a book, entitled ‘Descriptions of Deviance’. In this book he takes an MCA approach to examining how categorial formulations of deviance are interactionally constructed and negotiated in talk in educational settings. The data comprise transcriptions of pupil review meetings involving teachers and educational psychologists in an education authority in Northern England. In analysing this data, and consistent with the approach he had championed throughout his career, Hester emphasises the occasionality of categorial formulations. Recognising that this emphasis is not unproblematic and requires careful consideration, before turning to the data he discusses the problem of ‘culturalism’. He argues that Sacks’ distinction between ‘occasioned’ and ‘natural’ category devices does not lend support to the culturalist view of category use. Furthermore, while Schegloff's cautions concerning the methodological pitfalls of MCA are serious and well made, the analysis of categorial data, especially texts, need not fall into the trap of ‘culturalism’. Imaging and genetic studies have characterized biological risk factors contributing to specific reading disability (SRD). The current study aimed to apply this literature to a family of twins discordant for SRD and an older sibling with reading difficulty. Intraclass correlations were used to understand the similarity of imaging phenotypes between pairs. Reading-related genes and brain region phenotypes, including asymmetry indices representing the relative size of left compared to right hemispheric structures, were descriptively examined. SNPs that corresponded between the SRD siblings and not the typically developing (TD) siblings were in genes ZNF385D, LPHN3, CNTNAP2, FGF18, NOP9, CMIP, MYO18B, and RBFOX2. Imaging phenotypes were similar among all sibling pairs for grey matter volume and surface area, but cortical thickness in reading-related regions of interest (ROIs) was more similar among the siblings with SRD, followed by the twins, and then the TD twin and older siblings, suggesting cortical thickness may differentiate risk for this family. The siblings with SRD had more symmetry of cortical thickness in the transverse temporal and superior temporal gyri, while the TD sibling had greater rightward asymmetry. The TD sibling had a greater leftward asymmetry of grey matter volume and cortical surface area in the fusiform, supramarginal, and transverse temporal gyrus. This exploratory study demonstrated that reading-related risk factors appeared to correspond with SRD within this family, suggesting that early examination of biological factors may benefit early identification. In response to increasing interest in diploid potato (Solanum tuberosum) breeding and the production of diploid inbred hybrid potato varieties, the Breeding and Genetics section of the Potato Association of America (PAA) organized a symposium on diploid breeding that took place during the 2021 PAA annual meeting. Proceedings from that symposium are documented in this manuscript. Speakers from academia, government and industry presented their unique perspectives. Presentations covered a wide range of topics. Potential advantages of diploid breeding were introduced, and reasons to be skeptical about diploid breeding were highlighted. The impact that diploid breeding might have on the potato seed industry was discussed. Advantages for genetics research were emphasized. Aspects of tomato breeding and production were reviewed and considered as potential models for diploid potato breeding and production activities. Lastly, an industry-centered view of diploid potato breeding was provided. Taken together, these presentations are a snapshot of how diploid potato breeding was viewed in the moment, a vision for how diploid breeding might be implemented, and a thoughtful reflection on how diploid breeding and inbred hybrid varieties might change the potato variety development process and impact the potato industry. Thyroid cancer incidence increased over 200% from 1992 to 2018, whereas mortality rates had not increased proportionately. The increased incidence has been attributed primarily to the detection of subclinical disease, raising important questions related to thyroid cancer control. We developed the Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma Microsimulation model (PATCAM) to answer them, including the impact of overdiagnosis on thyroid cancer incidence. PATCAM simulates individuals from age 15 until death in birth cohorts starting from 1975 using 4 inter-related components, including natural history, detection, post-diagnosis, and other-cause mortality. PATCAM was built using high-quality data and calibrated against observed age-, sex-, and stage-specific incidence in the United States as reported by the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. PATCAM was validated against US thyroid cancer mortality and 3 active surveillance studies, including the largest and longest running thyroid cancer active surveillance cohort in the world (from Japan) and 2 from the United States. PATCAM successfully replicated age- and stage-specific papillary thyroid cancers (PTC) incidence and mean tumor size at diagnosis and PTC mortality in the United States between 1975 and 2015. PATCAM accurately predicted the proportion of tumors that grew more than 3 mm and 5 mm in 5 years and 10 years, aligning with the 95% confidence intervals of the reported rates from active surveillance studies in most cases. PATCAM successfully reproduced observed US thyroid cancer incidence and mortality over time and was externally validated. PATCAM can be used to identify factors that influence the detection of subclinical PTCs. • This study used high-quality data sources and rigorous calibration to develop, to our knowledge, the first cross-population microsimulation model to replicate thyroid cancer epidemiology in the United States over time. • This study demonstrated the use of a stakeholder advisory board comprising patients, providers, policymakers, and researchers in building an epidemiologic microsimulation model. • This study successfully explained the drastic increase in the incidence of thyroid cancer since the 1990s through modeling of changing diagnostic pathways over time. Neuromodulation through implantable pulse generators (IPGs) represents an important treatment approach for neurological disorders. While the field has observed the success of state-of-the-art interventions, such as deep brain stimulation (DBS) or responsive neurostimulation (RNS), implantable systems face various technical challenges, including the restriction of recording from a limited number of brain sites, power management, and limited external access to the assessed neural data in a continuous fashion. To the best of our knowledge, for the first time in this study, we investigated the feasibility of recording human intracranial EEG (iEEG) using a benchtop version of the Brain Interchange (BIC) unit of CorTec, which is a portable, wireless, and externally powered implant with sensing and stimulation capabilities. We developed a MATLAB/SIMULINK-based rapid prototyping environment and a graphical user interface (GUI) to acquire and visualize the iEEG captured from all 32 channels of the BIC unit. We recorded prolonged iEEG (~ 24 h) from three human subjects with externalized depth leads using the BIC and commercially available clinical amplifiers simultaneously in the epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU). The iEEG signal quality of both streams was compared, and the results demonstrated a comparable power spectral density (PSD) in all the systems in the low-frequency band (< 80 Hz). However, notable differences were primarily observed above 100 Hz, where the clinical amplifiers were associated with lower noise floor (BIC-17 dB vs. clinical amplifiers < − 25 dB). We employed an established spike detector to assess and compare the spike rates in each iEEG stream. We observed over 90% conformity between the spikes rates and their spatial distribution captured with BIC and clinical systems. Additionally, we quantified the packet loss characteristic in the iEEG signal during the wireless data transfer and conducted a series of simulations to compare the performance of different interpolation methods for recovering the missing packets in signals at different frequency bands. We noted that simple linear interpolation has the potential to recover the signal and reduce the noise floor with modest packet loss levels reaching up to 10%. Overall, our results indicate that while tethered clinical amplifiers exhibited noticeably better noise floor above 80 Hz, epileptic spikes can still be detected successfully in the iEEG recorded with the externally powered wireless BIC unit opening the road for future closed-loop neuromodulation applications with continuous access to brain activity. Despite the advent of immune checkpoint blockade for effective treatment of advanced malignancies, only a minority of patients responds to therapy and significant immune-related adverse events remain to be minimized. Innovations in engineered drug delivery systems and controlled release strategies can improve drug accumulation at and retention within target cells and tissues in order to enhance therapeutic efficacy while simultaneously reducing drug exposure in off target tissues to minimize the potential for treatment-associated toxicities. This review will outline basic principles of the immune physiology of checkpoint signaling, the existing knowledge of dose-efficacy relationships in checkpoint inhibition, the influence of administration route on treatment efficacy, as well as the resulting checkpoint inhibitor antibody biodistribution profiles amongst target versus systemic tissues. It will also highlight recent successes in the application of drug delivery principles and technologies towards augmenting checkpoint blockade therapy in cancer. Delivery strategies that have been developed for other therapeutic and immunotherapy applications with as-of-yet underexplored potential in checkpoint inhibition therapy will also be discussed. Multi-trait indices (MTI) weigh traits based on their importance to facilitate selection in plant and animal improvement. In animal breeding, economic values are used to develop MTIs. For vegetables, economic data valuing traits are rarely available. We posit that varieties with traits valued by growers and processors achieve higher market share and longer life span. Our objective was to develop MTIs predicting success of tomato varieties. Historical data for the California processing tomato industry from 1992 to 2013 provided measurements for yield, soluble solids (Brix), color, pH, market share, and life span for 258 varieties. We used random models to estimate best linear unbiased predictors (BLUPs) for phenotypic traits of each variety, and evaluated trends over time. Yield has been increasing from 2006, while Brix stayed constant. Because yield and Brix are negatively correlated, this trend suggests that Brix influenced selection. The average number of resistances reported in varieties ranking in the top ten increased from 2 to 4.5 between 1992 and 2013. MTIs predicting success from phenotypic traits were developed with general linear models and tested using leave-one-out cross validation. MTIs weighing yield, Brix, pH and color were significantly correlated to success metrics and selected a significantly higher proportion of successful varieties relative to random sampling. The index multiplying yield and brix, suggested in the literature, was not significantly correlated with variety success. The MTIs suggested that fruit quality had less of an influence on variety success than yield. The MTIs developed could help improve gain under selection for quality traits in addition to yield. Information on the nutritional requirements and preferred diets of sea cucumber juveniles is extremely limited and this has hindered development of hatchery culture methods. This study assessed ingestion, cell wall digestion and relative nutritional values of two live micro-algae ( Isochrysis aff. galbana (TISO) and Chaetoceros muelleri ) and six concentrated micro-algae products (Instant Algae®, Reed Mariculture Inc.) for early juveniles of sandfish, Holothuria scabra . Seven of the eight micro-algae tested were ingested by juveniles with the exception of live TISO. Faeces excretion times varied between ingested diets that passed through the juvenile gut in less than 1 h. The cell walls of five of the eight micro-algae tested were partially or mostly digested ( Chaetoceros muelleri , TW1200®, Palova 1800®, Isochrysis 1800® and Shellfish 1800®), while the cell walls of Tetraselmis 3600® and 3H 1800® remained intact. Juvenile growth rates were significantly different between diet treatments over the duration of a 14 day growth trial. Mean (± SE) length of early juveniles at the end of the growth trial was highest for those fed live C . muelleri (4.10 ± 0.03 mm) followed by TW 1200® (3.49 ± 0.05 mm). Juvenile survival did not differ significantly between diet treatments and was highest for those fed C . muelleri (79.33 ± 6.11%) followed by TW1200® (78.33 ± 1.20%). Pearson's correlation tests were used to identify key correlations between the levels of specific nutrients and juvenile performance (growth and survival). A significant positive correlation between growth and dietary protein content ( P < 0.05), and a highly significant positive correlation between growth and dietary EPA:DHA ratio ( P < 0.01) provide new information to inform diet selection for juvenile sandfish that will help improve juvenile performance and support improved hatchery production. Use of commercially available micro-algae concentrates as a replacement for live micro-algae in sandfish hatcheries supports development of cheaper, simpler post settlement rearing protocols for this species. Plant biotechnology has been around since the advent of humankind, resulting in tremendous improvements in plant cultivation through crop domestication, breeding and selection. The emergence of transgenic approaches involving the introduction of defined DNA sequences into plants by humans has rapidly changed the surface of our planet by further expanding the gene pool used by plant breeders for plant improvement. Transgenic approaches in food plants have raised concerns on the merits, social implications, ecological risks and true benefits of plant biotechnology. The recently acquired ability to precisely edit plant genomes by modifying native genes without introducing new genetic material offers new opportunities to rapidly exploit natural variation, create new variation and incorporate changes with the goal to generate more productive and nutritious plants. Protein has historically been the more expensive macronutrient in aquafeeds. In consideration of this, the implementation of high energy diets for increased protein utilisation is common in modern day aquafeed formulations, evoking what is widely coined as the “protein sparing effect”. However, market forces are changing the cost and availability of raw materials, and oils are now as expensive, if not more expensive, than most protein sources. In light of this, the current study looked to retro-engineer the “protein sparing effect” to test the hypothesis that dietary lipids (in particular omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids; n-3 LC-PUFA) could be spared from catabolism by the provision of a high protein diet, manifesting in a more efficient retention/utilisation of these health promoting fatty acids. As such, a case study was implemented in which Atlantic salmon ( Salmo salar ) were fed a series of iso-energetic diets containing a sliding ratio of dietary protein to lipid, and a fixed concentration of n-3 LC-PUFA. Specifically, these experimental diets were achieved by keeping a constant inclusion of marine derived raw materials (fish meal and fish oil), and varying the relative inclusion of animal by-products (meat and bone meal, blood meal and tallow). Growth performance and feed utilisation parameters as well as tissue fatty acid composition and apparent fatty acid metabolism were assessed. Despite the varying proximate composition of the experimental diets, no significant differences were evident in growth or tissue proximate parameters. Likewise, no conclusive differences were apparent between treatments in relation to the concentration of n-3 LC-PUFA in fillet and whole body samples. However, a remarkable sparing of saturated fatty acids (SFA) and monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) from catabolism was apparent and most certainly attributable to 1) the reduced dietary supply of these nutrients, and 2) the preferential utilisation of excess dietary protein for energy production. The results achieved by this study were not conclusive, and the hypothesis cannot be accepted or rejected, but some promising indications have been obtained, ultimately requiring further in-depth investigation. Statement of relevance This study documents the effects of feeding a sliding protein to lipid ratio in diets for juvenile Atlantic salmon on potential n-3 LC-PUFA sparing. Although multiple studies have found that African Americans commonly experience racial discrimination, available studies have yet to examine how perceived racism might be related to suicide vulnerability in African American youth. The purpose of this study was to examine a framework for how perceived racial discrimination contributes to symptoms of depression and anxiety as well as subsequent suicide ideation and morbid ideation. Data were obtained from 722 African American youth at mean age 10.56 years (SD = 0.64); a second wave of data was obtained 2 years later. Results revealed both a direct effect and mediated effects of perceived racism on later suicide and morbid ideation. For boys and girls, the effect of perceived racism was mediated by symptoms of depression. However, the association was mediated by anxiety for girls, but not for boys in the current sample. Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) is the most common cause of hemorrhagic colitis and hemolytic uremic syndrome in human patients, with brain damage and dysfunction the main cause of acute death. We evaluated the efficacy of urtoxazumab (TMA-15, Teijin Pharma Limited), a humanized monoclonal antibody against Shiga toxin (Stx) 2 for the prevention of brain damage, dysfunction, and death in a piglet EHEC infection model. Forty-five neonatal gnotobiotic piglets were inoculated orally with 3 × 109 colony-forming units of EHEC O157:H7 strain EDL933 (Stx1+, Stx2+) when 22-24 h old. At 24 h post-inoculation, piglets were intraperitoneally administered placebo or TMA-15 (0.3, 1.0 or 3.0 mg/kg body weight). Compared to placebo (n = 10), TMA-15 (n = 35) yielded a significantly greater probability of survival, length of survival, and weight gain (p <0.05). The efficacy of TMA-15 against brain lesions and death was 62.9% (p = 0.0004) and 71.4% (p = 0.0004), respectively. These results suggest that TMA-15 may potentially prevent or reduce vascular necrosis and infarction of the brain attributable to Stx2 in human patients acutely infected with EHEC. However, we do not infer that TMA-15 treatment will completely protect human patients infected with EHEC O157:H7 strains that produce both Stx1 and Stx2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to perform a comprehensive systematic review of the literature on voicerelated patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures in adults and to evaluate each instrument for the presence of important measurement properties. Method: MEDLINE, the Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and the Health and Psychosocial Instrument databases were searched using relevant vocabulary terms and key terms related to PRO measures and voice. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were developed in consultation with an expert panel. Three independent investigators assessed study methodology using criteria developed a priori. Measurement properties were examined and entered into evidence tables. Results: A total of 3,744 studies assessing voice-related constructs were identified. This list was narrowed to 32 PRO measures on the basis of predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Questionnaire measurement properties varied widely. Important thematic deficiencies were apparent: (a) lack of patient involvement in the item development process, (b) lack of robust construct validity, and (c) lack of clear interpretability and scaling. Conclusions: PRO measures are a principal means of evaluating treatment effectiveness in voice-related conditions. Despite their prominence, available PRO measures have disparate methodological rigor. Care must be taken to understand the psychometric and measurement properties and the applicability of PRO measures before advocating for their use in clinical or research applications. This study assessed the influence of diet composition on hyaline sphere (HS) development in auricularia larvae of the sandfish, Holothuria scabra , and the subsequent relationships between the presence and size of hyaline spheres and competency through settlement and early juvenile performance. Two-day old larvae were fed one of three commercially available micro-algae diets that varied in their nutrient compositions: (1) Isochrysis sp. (Haptophyceae); (2) Pavlova sp. (Haptophyceae); and (3) Thalassiosira weissflogii (Bacillariophyceae) or a ternary combination of the three. There were positive significant correlations between HS development in late auriculariae on days 10, 11, 12 and 13 post-fertilisation, and the proportion of competent doliolariae on day 15, post-settlement size (day 21) and post-settlement survival (day 25). The dietary components that most strongly influenced these relationships were carbohydrates and the n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids arachidonic acid (ARA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Our result confirm the strong relationship between HS formation in late auriculariae of sandfish and subsequent larval competency through settlement. As such, the presence and size of HS is a reliable indicator of subsequent performance for sandfish. Given that HS development was influenced by the nutrients available to sandfish auriculariae, there is clear opportunity for development of more appropriate diets for hatchery culture of this species that will improve HS formation and larval performance supporting improved hatchery production. Statement of relevance Our results have confirmed that for sandfish larvae, the presence and size of HS at the end of the auricularia stage, is indeed a reliable indicator of subsequent performance. Our results have also confirmed that HS formation and size is significantly influenced by the nutrient composition of the auricularia diet, and that there are significant positive correlations between HS formation and dietary levels of carbohydrate, EPA:DHA and EPA:ARA ratios. This information provides a strong basis for development of more appropriate diets for sandfish larvae that will improve HS formation and larval performance during hatchery culture and in turn improve hatchery production of this species.
