The state of knowledge of the Epi-Lengyel settlement of South Moravia is still limited to a few isolated pub lished sites, with a predominant focus on the typological evaluation of pottery. Collections of lithics remain unevaluated or are treated mainly typologically. The inventory of the settlement feature from Lidická Street, Drnholec, Břeclav district, comprising, among other things, 45 lithic pieces, has made it possible to apply modern methods to the evaluation of the collection, elucidating detailed aspects of its use and the depositional context of this function. It is the first-ever collection of Epi-Lengyel lithics in Central Europe studied by use-wear analysis. The results of this analysis show that it is a functionally homogeneous assemblage that was intended for processing animal materials, mainly leather. In terms of the distribution of raw material, there is an absolute orientation towards local sources. In a broader settlement context, the site appears peripheral.

The study examines the degree of similarity of Neolithic settlement structures in two geographically separated regions (eastern half of Bohemia, Morava River Basin) based on the analysis of 11 variables related to the environment and the settlement structures. The period studied corresponds to c. 4900–3400 BC. Although the results of most of the variables analysed using principal component analysis (PCA) do not show significant differences in the preference of settlement locations, the analysis of the individual variables points very clearly to major differences in settlement patterns. These are manifested in different settlement dynamics, accessibility to stone raw materials, and the spatial extent of occupation. The general conclusion is that although early agricultural societies are similar in general terms regarding the location of settlements, their individual aspects are quite different, which must have been reflected in lifestyles during the Neolithic.

V diskusním příspěvku polemizujeme s nově navrženou chronologií kultury s nálevkovitými poháry na základě modelace radiokarbonových dat z především pohřebních lokalit, kterou představili M. Šmíd et al. (2021). V kritice se zabýváme jednak teoretickým přístupem ke studiu pravěkých společností, způsobem výběru radiokarbonových dat, metodou modelace radiokarbonových dat a absencí diskuse v situaci, která ji snadno umožňuje. Na závěr představujeme vlastní pojetí chronologie keramických skupin spojených s nálevkovitými poháry, ve kterém definujeme dva chronologické stupně – baalberský a bolerázský, zatímco „předbaalberský“ stupeň má více společenský než chronologický rozměr.

Článek se zabývá chronologií eneolitických inhumací z prostoru Moravy na základě radiokarbonového datování. Datováno bylo celkem 17 jedinců pomocí 20 radiokarbonových dat, přičemž se jedná především o jedince bez hrobové výbavy, či jedince pocházející z problematických kontextů. Studie pokrývá zejména období starého eneolitu, méně pak střední a pozdní eneolit. K většině pojednávaných pohřbů jsou nově publikovány nálezové okolnosti a antropologické posudky. Na základě chronologické analýzy hrobů datovaných radiokarbonovým datováním lze přibližně definovat časový rozptyl jednotlivých způsobů pohřbívání na Moravě. Nejspolehlivěji lze datovat ploché hroby s jedinci v natažené poloze bez hrobových přídavků do ca 3800–3600 BC.

This dataset comprises the core spatial and temporal structure of the ‘Lifestyle as an Unintentional Identity in the Neolithic’ project. The data consist of spatial and chronological information on 2,154 Neolithic settlement sites from c. 4900 to 3300 BCE in two separate regions, the eastern part of Bohemia (Czech Republic) and the Morava River basin (Czech Republic, parts of Austria and Slovakia). To gather as much data as possible, all available sources including published works, find and excavation reports in archives, museum collections and unpublished records and both existing and legacy databases were examined. The dataset is deposited at the Zenodo data repository with an open access license. There is a reuse potential in aggregating the data with data from different regions and/or time periods for various spatial and temporal analyses.

The object of the paper is to update the current concept of the chronology of the Neolithic (c. 5400–3300 BC) of the Czech Republic and northern Lower Austria by comparing the typo-chronological development of pottery and modelling the corresponding radiocarbon dates. Up until now, pottery and its style have often been perceived in Central Europe as “basic indicators” of archaeological cultures or pottery traditions, which are then further divided into chronological stages and phases. And yet, an analysis of the relationships of all three levels of these entities in the context of four types of models of radiocarbon dates indicates that changes in the original material culture do not necessarily occur on a time axis. While it is true that archaeological cultures have proven to be the robust materialisation of primarily chronological trends valid in larger geographic areas, at the level of general and more detailed pottery groups, development can be manifested in other ways (regionally, socially or in a way that is difficult to interpret).

Hrob ze střední doby bronzové se dvěma pohřby v kamenných komorách je v prostředí Moravy unikátním nálezem. Hrob byl jediným objektem z daného období v ploše výzkumu, případný mohylový násep nebyl zjištěn. Část kamene použitého na konstrukci tvoří zrnotěrky ze 40 km vzdáleného zdroje, většina konstrukce je tvořena místním vápencem. Oba pohřby, dítěte i dospělého jedince, byly uloženy současně a vybaveny osobním šperkem i milodary. Na bronzových artefaktech se podařilo zachytit organická rezidua a traseologické stopy. Součástí inventáře je i kamenná sekerka z málo časté suroviny – eklogitu. Na základě typologického rozboru a série radiokarbonových dat je celek datován do středního stupně mohylové kultury, na přelom 15. a 14. stol. př. n. l. Zachování antropologického materiálu, exkluzívní vnitřní konstrukce, výbava obou pohřbů a moderní dokumentace představují výjimečný zdroj dat pro poznání společnosti střední doby bronzové a tehdejších pohřebních zvyklostí.
