Camp Despite the potential benefits of collaboration in a dynamic business environment, many manufacturing organisations find it extremely difficult to build alliances successfully. There is a lack of methods and frameworks for establishing and managing collaboration in traditional manufacturing environments. This often leads to failures, decreasing motivation and can ultimately weaken competitive position in the market. A benchmarking project was undertaken with a variety of firms to explore and gain a better understanding of factors that would improve the likelihood of collaborative success. This paper provides an understanding of the necessary changes required in a firm's activities, its organisational structure and culture. It demonstrates the impact of these changes on successful collaborations. Through an analysis of the required changes, it is shown how companies can adopt six empirically tested factors to bring about a successful collaboration management. These success factors identified in the benchmarking project offer guidance for managers seeking to successfully collaborate in today's business landscape.

In the first part of this paper, three-phase power factor correction (PFC) rectifier topologies with sinusoidal input currents and controlled output voltage are derived from known single-phase PFC rectifier systems and/or passive three-phase diode rectifiers. The systems are classified into hybrid and fully active pulsewidth modulation boost-type or buck-type rectifiers, and their functionality and basic control concepts are briefly described. This facilitates the understanding of the operating principle of three-phase PFC rectifiers starting from single-phase systems, and organizes and completes the knowledge base with a new hybrid three-phase buck-type PFC rectifier topology denominated as Swiss Rectifier. Finally, core topics of future research on three-phase PFC rectifier systems are discussed, such as the analysis of novel hybrid buck-type PFC rectifier topologies, the direct input current control of buck-type systems, and the multi-objective optimization of PFC rectifier systems. The second part of this paper is dedicated to a comparative evaluation of four rectifier systems offering a high potential for industrial applications based on simple and demonstrative performance metrics concerning the semiconductor stresses, the loading and volume of the main passive components, the differential mode and common mode electromagnetic interference noise level, and ultimately the achievable converter efficiency and power density. The results are substantiated with selected examples of hardware prototypes that are optimized for efficiency and/or power density. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To examine associations between factors of social inclusion and participation and productivity loss in employed persons with chronic pain, assessed for an interprofessional pain rehabilitation programme. We hypothesized that factors of social inclusion and participation and work related social factors are significantly associated with productivity when experiencing chronic pain and we expected a moderate effect., Methods: Cross-sectional study using data collected prospectively in an interprofessional patient registry for chronic pain. The primary end point was productivity loss, measured with the iMTA Productivity Costs Questionnaire. We included data from 161 individuals. To be included, persons had to be 18 years old or older, in paid work, and had to have a medical diagnosis of chronic pain syndrome with actual or potential tissue damage. In addition, participants had to have indicators of significant impairments in psychosocial functions., Results: Linear regression analysis showed that a highly stressful professional situation, frequent problems regarding the compatibility of the family and job and not being Swiss were associated with a significantly higher total productivity loss. Similar results were found for productivity loss in paid work. However, problems concerning the compatibility of the family and job did not reach the significance level for productivity loss in paid work., Conclusion: The results of this study underscore the importance of factors of social inclusion and participation for interprofessional rehabilitation programmes to manage chronic pain especially when focussing on productivity loss., (© 2022. Over the past several decades, pharmaceutical manufacturing has become increasingly global and supply chains have become longer, more complex, and fragmented. While pharmaceutical products available to patients and customers typically conform with appropriate standards, supply chains are often affected by disruptive events and shocks that impact public health. One approach to assuring the availability of quality pharmaceutical products is to encourage drug manufacturers to invest in quality management maturity (QMM) and promote continual improvement. The interests of patients are served by risk-based drug shortage prevention and mitigation activities that help to proactively manage supply chain complexities and ensure availability of drugs. This paper demonstrates that adherence to certain quality practices enables improved manufacturing performance. Prior research has identified quality practices that are correlated with manufacturing performance. To better understand how these quality practices can be characterized, measured, and analyzed, this research project conducted a voluntary global study of pharmaceutical manufacturing establishments. Over 200 global pharmaceutical manufacturing establishments participated in this Quality Benchmarking Study (QBS) and provided data on manufacturing performance and self-assessments of adherence to quality practices. The analysis of these data found that the implementation level for selected quality management practices correlates positively with certain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Background: A deeper understanding of how contextual factors affect the ability to participate in the life area of work and employment despite chronic musculoskeletal pain is needed as a basis for interprofessional rehabilitation programs., Objective: To investigate which contextual factors influence rehabilitation program clients' ability to participate in the life area of work and employment, and how they do this., Methods: Nested case study using a realist evaluation framework of interprofessional interventions. Qualitative content analysis of problem-centered interviews to identify influential context-mechanism-outcome configurations., Results: We identified several important context-mechanism-outcome configurations. In the pre-interventional phase, socioeconomic and environmental factors affected two mechanisms, "exhaustion" and "discrimination". In the intra-interventional phase, the social skills of health professionals and opportunities for discussion with peers affected the ability of program participants to engage with program content. In the post-intervention phase, volitional competences of the social system affected the sustainable application of program content in everyday life., Conclusion: The identified context-mechanism-outcome configurations shows that the ability to participate in the life area of work is interdependent with the ability to participate in other areas of life. In practice and research, assessment and treatment should be carried out based on this understanding.

The pharmaceutical industry invests enormous amounts of resources (>€1 billion and >10years) in the development of new products. External factors such as intensifying foreign competition and greater regulatory demands can negatively affect the profit margin, whereas the R&D productivity diminishes. To stay competitive and to maintain high R&D capabilities for developing new medicinal products, companies must make smart investment decisions to maximize their return on investment. Consequently, the entire lifecycle of a medicinal product must be effectively managed to ensure a sustained development through commercialization. Quality culture as an enabler of high-quality performance and subsequently as a source of competitive advantage is increasingly discussed among operational excellence (OPEX) and quality executives. Research studies indicate an impact of quality culture on performance, especially on the success of quality improvement programs, such as Total Quality Management initiatives. A continual challenge in quality culture research, however, remains the lack of practical and accepted metrics to assess culture. In 2014, the Parental Drug Association (PDA) conducted a quality culture survey within the pharmaceutical industry. The results indicate a positive and significant correlation between quality (culture) behavior of a production site's employees and quality (system) maturity, which represents the maturity of the quality system in place. As the maturity of the quality system is more comfortable to assess by objective criteria, the positive correlation between quality (culture) behavior and quality (system) maturity may be exploited by using the latter as an indicator for quality culture. This paper confirms this positive relationship by exploring the comprehensive St. Gallen OPEX database for pharmaceutical production plants. Furthermore, data analysis shows that high-performing production sites, regarding timely provision of high-quality drugs, reveal a higher level of both quality (system) maturity and quality (culture) behavior than low-performing sites., (© PDA, Inc. 2018.)
