In order to grasp the latest trends of medical textiles and discuss the future development direction, the fiber materials and forming technology of medical textiles in our country were introduced. The emerging technologies and important breakthroughs in the field of medical textiles in the past ten years were summarized.Focus on the design,composition and application of in vivo and in vitro medical textiles with medical protection,treatment, monitoring,health care,tissue repair,etc..The present situation and key problems of industrialization were analyzed. It is considered that the existing medical textiles in our country have the characteristics of diversification,but the basic research,technology development and commercial production of high-quality,intelligent and eco-friendly medical textiles are still in the initial stage.It is necessary to strengthen independent innovation,deepen in-depth cooperation in multiple fields,accelerate the integration of intelligent manufacturing technologies,improve the construction of industry norms and systems,develop science and technology enabling industry chains,and develop future medical textiles with advantages of light comfort,digitalization,intelligence,biofriendliness and biodegradation. In order to further realize the organic unity of function and yarn, the development status of new functional yarn and its textiles were reviewed. The basic principle, structural design and preparation method of functional yarn were described. Types and application fields of functional yarns were reviewed. The advantages, defects and challenges of yarns in various fields were discussed. The overall development trend of functional yarns was forecasted.It is considered that functional yarns in our country have some defects, such as single function, yarn forming technology can not meet the current green preparation requirements, and lack of test and evaluation of functional yarns. It is necessary to strengthen the multifunctional integration of functional yarns, develop efficient green preparation technology, and accelerate the establishment and formulation of industry standards in order to promote and develop high-quality functional yarns. Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is a piezoelectric polymer for the potential massive production of smart textiles, facing the difficulty of synergetic improving its fiber strength and softness. Strengthening of flexible PVDF fibers via drawing incurs the reduction of fiber softness. Here, inspired by the cotton fibers, this study aimed to construct a strong and soft PVDF fiber by regulating its cross-sectional shape and longitudinal convolution. Mechanism of increasing softness by longitudinal spiral twisting was conducted during the strengthening of PVDF fibers with favorable cross-sectional shapes. Then circular, flat and kidney shaped PVDF fibers were prepared to conduct drawing and twisting under different parameters. The influences of cross-sectional shapes and convolutions on PVDF fiber properties were examined using scanning electron microscope (SEM), X ray diffraction (XRD), universal stretch meter and AFM. Results indicated that all the fibers became strong but rigid with increased drawing ratios, mainly due to their corresponding attenuation to increase fiber inner crystallization and surface smoothness. In specialty, the circular fiber had a higher crystallization increase ratio (106.3%) than that of kidney (74.7%) and flat (73.1%) fibers. Surprisingly, all drawn fibers became flexible and further strengthened after tensile twisting within 400 T/m. Overall the optimum strong and flexible fibers were obtained by 400 T/m tensile twisting of the 2 times drawn flat PVDF fibers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Spinning with a static contact surface is an energy-saving method to reduce spun yarn hairiness; however, the spun yarn irregularity and tensile properties are deteriorated. To prohibit the deteriorations, this paper introduces a rotary grooved surface contacting ring spinning strand within the yarn formation zone. In theory, the modeling analysis of spinning with contact surface is conducted to reveal the prohibition mechanism of yarn irregularity and tensile property deteriorations for a rotary grooved surface. Theoretical analysis results indicated that groove-yarn surface friction could wrap the concentrated hairs onto yarn stem while block inflowing twists to the spinning strangle zone; the rotary grooved surface could reduce twist blockage and hair wrapping concentrations to better the situation after a comparison with the static grooved surface. Then, two kinds of specially-designed grooved cylinders (one was rotatable while the other was static) were used to validate the theoretical analysis. The experimental results showed that, unlike the static grooved cylinder which significantly deteriorated the original yarn unevenness CVm, the rotary achieved significant hairiness reduction without any significant deterioration of other yarn properties. This might be due to the decreased friction and twist propagation for the rotary grooved cylinder contacting the spinning strand.
