Abstract

In this paper, we provide a deep dive into the deployment of inference accelerators at Facebook. Many of our ML workloads have unique characteristics, such as sparse memory accesses, large model sizes, as well as high compute, memory and network bandwidth requirements. We co-designed a high-performance, energy-efficient inference accelerator platform based on these requirements. We describe the inference accelerator platform ecosystem we developed and deployed at Facebook: both hardware, through Open Compute Platform (OCP), and software framework and tooling, through Pytorch/Caffe2/Glow. A characteristic of this ecosystem from the start is its openness to enable a variety of AI accelerators from different vendors. This platform, with six low-power accelerator cards alongside a single-socket host CPU, allows us to serve models of high complexity that cannot be easily or efficiently run on CPUs. We describe various performance optimizations, at both platform and accelerator level, which enables this platform to serve production traffic at Facebook. We also share deployment challenges, lessons learned during performance optimization, as well as provide guidance for future inference hardware co-design.

Abstract

The urgent problem to solve is how to design a kind of green and porous adsorbent that can effectively remove dye pollutants in the field of the sewage treatment. The objectives of this investigation are to incorporate zeolitic imidazolate frameworks‐8 (ZIF‐8) particles in situ onto the surface of multiwalled carbon tubes (MWCNTs) and integrate them into an agarose‐sodium alginate (ASA) double network hydrogel. The resulting composite hydrogel beads, denoted as MWCNTs/ZIF‐8/ASA (MZASA), are synthesized using calcium ion crosslinking. The addition of agarose is employed to create a dual‐crosslinked hydrogel, thereby enhancing the mechanical properties of the ASA hydrogel. By incorporating MWCNTs/ZIF‐8 nanoparticles, the surface area of the MZASA hydrogel is augmented, leading to an enhancement in dye adsorption capacity. In batch sorption mode, the maximum absorbency of the resulting hydrogel beads for methylene blue (MB) is 493.799 mg/g, which was a third greater than that of pure SA beads. Absorption of MB obeys the pseudo‐second‐order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm model, suggesting monolayer chemisorption adsorption. Analysis of the thermodynamics proves that the entire adsorption process is exothermic and spontaneous. Moreover, the MZASA hydrogel beads show high selectivity for cationic dyes in the mixed dye test. Hence, the synthesized MZASA hydrogel beads serve as a highly effective, innovative, and reusable adsorbent for eliminating cationic dyes from water‐based solutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Purpose This paper aims to introduce a new acoustic positioning method to solve the problem of space positioning for online inspection robots within the storage tank. Design/methodology/approach The proposed positioning system comprises two acoustic signal emitters and two receivers. Emitters are brought by the robot into the storage tank. Receivers are mounted on the external edge of the storage tank floor. The spatial coordinate values and motion directions of the robot in the storage tank are calculated by using the proposed acoustic positioning algorithm. Findings The experiment results and positioning error analysis indicate that the method can obtain the data of robotic space coordinates and motion orientation, while the positioning error of the method can be less than 20 cm. The accuracy reaches the positioning technology level of other tank online inspection robots. Originality/value This method not only expands the positioning of the inspection robots from 2D plane to 3D space but also significantly reduces the number of positioning sensors carried by a robot and improves the safety of a robot in the tank.

Abstract

There are a number of problems for the fracture network cell during the test process. These problems include that there exist no stress on the secondary fracture, no flow in the secondary fracture, and flow through cracks between rock and fracture network cell' s in wall. This work uses the UGNX soft to design a new artificial fracture network core tool via comparative analysis of Warren-Root, HFN and DFN models, makes some cores samples, and studies the impact of crossing angle on the fracture conductivity. It shows that the cores prepared by the tool can solve the problems of the fracture network cell, have strong adaptability and prepared easily. It proposes a scientific and practical calculation method for fracture network conductivity, and a new simulation mode that uses different width orthogonal vertical fracture to simulate more complex fracture network.
