Abstract

This study explores from a consumer perspective the underlying factors that made China a cashless society. The results of principal component analysis (PCA) show that four major factors influenced the high Mpay adoption in China: government support and sponsorship, simple to use technology infrastructure QR Code rather than the NFC technology, ease of use convenience and safety of the Mpay apps, and savings incentives because of the lack of any associated fees with Mpay transactions both for the consumer and small businesses. Favorable government regulatory framework or lack thereof being the major enabler of the primarily wide Mpay adoption in China, in addition to the direct Chinese government sponsorship of Mpay use as the most important antecedent factors influencing the adoption of Mpay in China, where a government sponsorship and sanctioning for economic development and financial services inclusion purposes led to the burgeoning of this FinTech innovation in China.

13. A WAVE CHAOTIC STUDY OF QUANTUM GRAPHS WITH MICROWAVE NETWORKS

Abstract

Quantum graphs provide a setting to test the hypothesis that all ray-chaotic systems show universal wave chaotic properties. I study the quantum graphs with a wave chaotic approach. Here, an experimental setup consisting of a microwave coaxial cable network is used to simulate quantum graphs. Some basic features and the distributions of impedance statistics are analyzed from experimental data on an ensemble of tetrahedral networks. The random coupling model (RCM) is applied in an attempt to uncover the universal statistical properties of the system. Deviations from RCM predictions have been observed in that the statistics of diagonal and off-diagonal impedance elements are different. Waves trapped due to multiple reflections on bonds between nodes in the graph most likely cause the deviations from universal behavior in the finite-size realization of a quantum graph. In addition, I have done some investigations on the Random Coupling Model, which are useful for further research.

21. A 9.4 Tesla Transmit and Receive MRI Quadrature Birdcage Coil Design and Fabrication for Mouse imaging

Abstract

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is an image modality used for clinical diagnosis as well as animal research. The study described in this thesis is intended for animal MRI application. In order to acquire high-resolution MRI images, radio-frequency (RF) coils are necessary in the experiments. In this study, we designed and fabricated a 9.4 Tesla high-pass transmit and receive birdcage coil for fMRI mouse imaging. The function of this system is to transmit RF energy to the subject generating a homogeneous volume B1+ field and then receive the RF energy with a pretty high SNR. The coil was designed by applying software simulations at first. Taken care of tuning, matching and other practical issues, the hardware implementation was done. Meanwhile, the front end for this system which includes T/R switch, Quadrature Hybrid, and LNA is discussed. By the end, MRI images of a saline water phantom acquired with the fabricated coil in a 9.4 Tesla MRI scanner demonstrate a high-level of excitation homogeneity and SNR, which correspond very well to the theory and simulation results.

22. Galangin attenuates IL-1β-induced catabolism in mouse chondrocytes and ameliorates murine osteoarthritis.

Abstract

Objective: Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common chronic diseases, which is characterized by cartilage degeneration, subchondral osteosclerosis, and synovitis. Accumulating evidence has shown that galangin, a flavonoid derived from medicinal herbs, exhibits numerous pharmacological activities in various diseases. This study aimed to investigate the effects of galangin on interleukin (IL)-1β-induced inflammation in mouse chondrocytes and explore the underlying mechanisms., Methods: In this study, we investigated the protective effects of galangin on IL-1β-induced inflammatory response in vitro using the CCK-8 assay, RT-qPCR, western blotting, and immunofluorescence staining. In addition, the therapeutic effects of galangin on the anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT) mouse model were also explored in vivo. Results: Galangin treatment suppressed the expression of IL-1β-induced inflammatory cytokines, such as nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase-2, TNF-α, and IL-6. Furthermore, galangin attenuated hypertrophic conversion and the extracellular matrix degradation via inhibiting the expression of catabolic enzymes. Mechanistically, galangin inhibited the activation of the JNK and ERK MAPK pathways and nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) signaling pathway. In addition, galangin treatment ameliorated cartilage degeneration in an OA model in vivo. Conclusion: Galangin suppressed the IL-β-induced inflammatory response in vitro and ameliorated cartilage degeneration in vivo via inhibiting the NF-κB pathway and JNK and ERK pathways, suggesting its potential as an effective candidate for the treatment of OA., Competing Interests: None., (AJTR Copyright © 2021.)
