EUSO-Balloon is a pathfinder mission for the Extreme Universe Space Observatory onboard the Japanese Experiment Module (JEM-EUSO). It was launched on the moonless night of the 25$^{th}$ of August 2014 from Timmins, Canada. The flight ended successfully after maintaining the target altitude of 38 km for five hours. One part of the mission was a 2.5 hour underflight using a helicopter equipped with three UV light sources (LED, xenon flasher and laser) to perform an inflight calibration and examine the detectors capability to measure tracks moving at the speed of light. We describe the helicopter laser system and details of the underflight as well as how the laser tracks were recorded and found in the data. These are the first recorded laser tracks measured from a fluorescence detector looking down on the atmosphere. Finally, we present a first reconstruction of the direction of the laser tracks relative to the detector., Comment: 18 pages, 14 figures

By using the GRACE-Loop system, we calculate the full $\mathcal{O}(\alpha)$ electroweak radiative corrections to the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow e^+e^- \gamma$, which is important for future investigations at the International Linear Collider (ILC). With the GRACE-Loop system, the calculations are checked numerically by three consistency tests: ultraviolet finiteness, infrared finiteness, and gauge-parameter independence. The results show good numerical stability when quadruple precision is used. In the phenomenological results, we find that the electroweak corrections to the total cross section range from $\sim -4\%$ to $\sim -21\%$ when $\sqrt{s}$ varies from $250$ GeV to $1$ TeV. The corrections also significantly affect the differential cross sections, which are a function of the invariant masses and angles and the final-particle energies. We evaluate the exposure during nadir observations with JEM-EUSO, the Extreme Universe Space Observatory, on-board the Japanese Experiment Module of the International Space Station. Designed as a mission to explore the extreme energy Universe from space, JEM-EUSO will monitor the Earth's nighttime atmosphere to record the ultraviolet light from tracks generated by extensive air showers initiated by ultra-high energy cosmic rays. In the present work, we discuss the particularities of space-based observation and we compute the annual exposure in nadir observation. The results are based on studies of the expected trigger aperture and observational duty cycle, as well as, on the investigations of the effects of clouds and different types of background light. We present the full $\mathcal{O}(\alpha)$ electroweak radiative corrections to the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow t \bar{t} \gamma$ at the International Linear Collider (ILC). The computation is performed with the help of the GRACE-Loop system. We present the total cross-section and the top quark forward-backward asymmetry ($A_{FB}$) as a function of the center-of-mass energy and compare them with the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow t \bar{t}$. We find that the value of $A_{FB}$ in $t \bar{t} \gamma$ production is larger than $A_{FB}$ in $t\bar{t}$ production. It is an important result for the measurement of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry at the ILC. Applying a structure function method, we also subtract the QED correction to gain the genuine weak correction in both the $\alpha$ scheme and the $G_{\mu}$ scheme ($\delta_{W}^{G_{\mu}}$). We obtain numerical values for $\delta_{W}^{G_{\mu}}$ which are changing from 2% to -24% when we vary the center-of-mass energy from 360 GeV to 1 TeV., Comment: 13 pages, 9 figures

A new approach is presented to evaluate multi-loop integrals, which appear in the calculation of cross-sections in high-energy physics. It relies on a fully numerical method and is applicable to a wide class of integrals with various mass configurations. As an example, the computation of two-loop planar and non-planar box diagrams is shown. The results are confirmed by comparisons with other techniques, including the reduction method, and by a consistency check using the dispersion relation., Comment: 16 pages, 8 figures

In this paper, we describe a numerical approach to evaluate Feynman loop integrals. In this approach the key technique is a combination of a numerical integration method and a numerical extrapolation method. Since the computation is carried out in a fully numerical way, our approach is applicable to one-, two- and multi-loop diagrams. Without any analytic treatment it can compute diagrams with not only real masses but also complex masses for the internal particles. As concrete examples we present numerical results of a scalar one-loop box integral with complex masses and two-loop planar and non-planar box integrals with masses. A purely numerical method, Direct ComputationMethod is applied to evaluate Feynman integrals. This method is based on the combination of an efficient numerical integration and an efficient extrapolation. In addition, high-precision arithmetic and parallelization technique can be used in this method if required. We discuss a new approach for the numerical evaluation of loop integrals. The fully numerical calculations of an infrared one-loop vertex and a box diagram are demonstrated. To perform these calculations, we apply an extrapolation method based on the $\epsilon$-algorithm. In our approach, the super high precision control in the numerical manipulation is essential to handle the infrared singularity. We present a new approach for obtaining very precise integration results for infrared vertex and box diagrams, where the integration is carried out directly without performing any analytic integration of Feynman parameters. This Report summarises the activities of the "SM and Higgs" working group for the Workshop "Physics at TeV Colliders", Les Houches, France, 2-20 May, 2005. On the one hand, we performed a variety of experimental and theoretical studies on standard candles (such as W, Z, and ttbar production), treating them either as proper signals of known physics, or as backgrounds to unknown physics; we also addressed issues relevant to those non-perturbative or semi-perturbative ingredients, such as Parton Density Functions and Underlying Events, whose understanding will be crucial for a proper simulation of the actual events taking place in the detectors. On the other hand, several channels for the production of the Higgs, or involving the Higgs, have been considered in some detail. The report is structured into four main parts. The first one deals with Standard Model physics, except the Higgs. A variety of arguments are treated here, from full simulation of processes constituting a background to Higgs production, to studies of uncertainties due to PDFs and to extrapolations of models for underlying events, from small-$x$ issues to electroweak corrections which may play a role in vector boson physics. The second part of the report treats Higgs physics from the point of view of the signal. In the third part, reviews are presented on the current status of multi-leg, next-to-leading order and of next-to-next-to-leading order QCD computations. The full electroweak radiative correction is calculated for the process ee--> nunubarHH which is a window for the study of the Higgs potential at the future linear collider. The calculation is done by using GRACE, the automated system for the calculation of Feynman diagrams. We performed the calculation of the full O(alpha) corrections to e+e- -> mu- nu-bar u d-bar with the help of the GRACE/1-LOOP system. We discuss how a finite decay width introduces a serious gauge invariance breaking, particularly for infrared 5-point functions. We present the full order alpha electroweak radiative corrections to e+e- -> e+e-H. The computation is performed with the help of GRACE-loop. The extraction of the full QED corrections is performed, these are quite large at threshold. The genuine weak corrections, for the linear collider energies, when expressed in the G_mu scheme are of order -2 to -4 for Higgs masses preferred by the latest precision data. We also extract the m_t^2 type corrections and make a comparison with the weak corrections for the process e+e- ->nu nu H., Comment: 16 pages and 6 figures

Loop integration results have been obtained using numerical integration and extrapolation. An extrapolation to the limit is performed with respect to a parameter in the integrand which tends to zero. Results are given for a non-scalar four-point diagram. Extensions to accommodate loop integration by existing integration packages are also discussed. Large scale calculation for the radiative corrections required for the current and future collider experiments can be done automatically using the GRACE-LOOP system. We present the full order alpha electroweak radiative corrections to the double Higgs-strahlung process e+e- --> ZHH. The computation is performed with the help of GRACE-loop. After subtraction of the initial state QED radiative corrections, we find that the genuine weak corrections in the $\alpha$-scheme are small for Higgs masses and energies where this cross section is largest and is most likely to be studied. These corrections decrease with increasing energies attaining about $\sim -10%$ at $\sqrt{s}=1.5$TeV. The full order alpha correction on the other hand is quite large at threshold but small at energies around the peak. We also study changes in the shape of the invariant mass of the Higgs pair which has been shown to be a good discriminating variable for the measurement of the triple Higgs vertex in this reaction., Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures and 3 tables

We describe the main building blocks of a generic automated package for the calculation of Feynman diagrams. These blocks include the generation and creation of a model file, the graph generation, the symbolic calculation at an intermediate level of the Dirac and tensor algebra, implementation of the loop integrals, the generation of the matrix elements or helicity amplitudes, methods for the phase space integrations and eventually the event generation. The report focuses on the fully automated systems for the calculation of physical processes based on the experience in developing GRACE-loop. As such, a detailed description of the renormalisation procedure in the Standard Model is given emphasizing the central role played by the non-linear gauge fixing conditions for the construction of such automated codes. The need for such gauges is better appreciated when it comes to devising efficient and powerful algorithms for the reduction of the tensorial structures of the loop integrals. A new technique for these reduction algorithms is described. Explicit formulae for all two-point functions in a generalised non-linear gauge are given, together with the complete set of counterterms. We also show how infrared divergences are dealt with in the system. We give a comprehensive presentation of some systematic test-runs which have been performed at the one-loop level for a wide variety of two-to-two processes to show the validity of the gauge check. These cover fermion-fermion scattering, gauge boson scattering into fermions, gauge bosons and Higgs bosons scattering processes. Comparisons with existing results on some one-loop computation in the Standard Model show excellent agreement. We also briefly recount some recent development concerning the calculation of mutli-leg one-loop corrections., Comment: 131 pages. We present the full ${{\cal O}}(\alpha)$ electroweak radiative corrections to associated Higgs top pair production in $e^+e^-$ collisions. We combine these results with a new calculation of the full one-loop QCD corrections. The computation is performed with the help of {\tt GRACE-loop}. We find that the ${{\cal O}}(\alpha)$ correction can be larger than the ${{\cal O}}(\alpha_s)$ corrections around the peak of the cross section especially for a light Higgs mass. At threshold these corrections are swamped by the QCD corrections which are enhanced by the gluon Coulomb contribution. We have also subtracted the complete QED corrections and expressed the genuine weak correction both in the $\alpha$-scheme and the $G_\mu$-scheme. This reveals that the genuine weak corrections are not negligible and should be taken into account for a precision measurement of this cross section and the extraction of the Yukawa $t \bar t H$ coupling., Comment: 20 pages, 2 figures. only change is the addition of one note stating that all our results have now been confirmed by an independent calculation

We present the full ${{\cal O}}(\alpha)$ electroweak radiative corrections to single Higgs production in \epemt. This takes into account the full one-loop corrections as well as the effects of hard photon radiation. We include both the fusion and Higgs-strahlung processes. The computation is performed with the help of {\tt GRACE-loop} where we have implemented a generalised non-linear gauge fixing condition. The latter includes 5 gauge parameters that can be used for checks on our results. Besides the UV, IR finiteness and gauge parameter independence checks it proves also powerful to test our implementation of the 5-point function. We find that for a 500GeV machine and a light Higgs of mass 150GeV, the total ${{\cal O}}(\alpha)$ correction is small when the results are expressed in terms of $\alpha_{{\rm QED}}$. The total correction decreases slightly for higher energies. For moderate centre of mass energies the total ${{\cal O}}(\alpha)$ decreases as the Higgs mass increases, reaching -10% for $M_H=350$GeV and $\sqrt{s}=500$GeV. In order to quantify the genuine weak corrections we have subtracted the universal virtual and bremsstrahlung correction from the full ${{\cal O}}(\alpha)$. We find, for $M_H=150$GeV, a weak correction slowly decreasing from -2% to -4% as the energy increases from $\sqrt{s}=300$GeV to $\sqrt{s}=1$TeV after expressing the tree-level results in terms of $G_\mu$, Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures. A new method to construct event-generators based on next-to-leading order QCD matrix-elements and leading-logarithmic parton showers is proposed. Matrix elements of loop diagram as well as those of a tree level can be generated using an automatic system. A soft/collinear singularity is treated using a leading-log subtraction method. Higher order re-summation of the soft/collinear correction by the parton shower method is combined with the NLO matrix-element without any double-counting in this method. We present the full O(alpha) corrections to single Higgs production in e+e- collision. The computation is performed with the help of GRACE-LOOP where a generalized non-linear gauge fixing condition is implemented. The numerical results are checked by testing their UV and IR finiteness as well as their independence on all five non-linear gauge parameters. We find that for a 500 GeV collider and a light Higgs boson of mass 150GeV, the total correction is small when the results are expressed in terms of alpha rather than G_mu. GRACE/SUSY is a program package for generating the tree-level amplitude and evaluating the corresponding cross section of processes of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM). The Higgs potential adopted in the system, however, is assumed to have a more general form indicated by the two-Higgs-doublet model. This system is an extension of GRACE for the standard model(SM) of the electroweak and strong interactions. For a given MSSM process the Feynman graphs and amplitudes at tree-level are automatically created. The Monte-Carlo phase space integration by means of BASES gives the total and differential cross sections. When combined with SPRING, an event generator, the program package provides us with the simulation of the SUSY particle productions., Comment: 39 page, 1 figure

We have developed an event generator, named GR@PPA_4b, for the four bottom quark (b bbar b bbar) production processes at PP and PPbar collisions. The program implements all of the possible processes at the tree level within the framework of the Standard Model. Users can generate events from the Higgs boson and photon/Z mediated processes, as well as those from pure QCD interactions. The integration and the event generation are performed within the newly developed GR@PPA framework, an extension of the GRACE automatic event-generator generation system to hadron collisions. This program is so designed that it can be embedded in a general-purpose event generator PYTHIA version 6.1. PYTHIA adds the initial- and final-state parton showers and simulates the hadronization and decays to make generated events realistic. It should be emphasized that a huge number of diagrams and complicated four-body kinematics are dealt with strictly in GR@PPA_4b. This program will be useful for studies of Higgs boson productions, especially those in extended models where the Yukawa coupling to b quarks is greatly enhanced. Radiative corrections to the process e+ e- to t tbar are calculated in one-loop approximation of the Standard Model. There exist results from several groups. This talk provides further comparisons of the complete elektroweak contributions, including hard bremsstrahlung. We have successfully developed a technique to integrate an automatic event-generator generation system GRACE and a general-purpose event generator framework PYTHIA. The codes generated by GRACE are embedded in PYTHIA in the created event generator program. The embedded codes give information on parton-level hard interactions directly to PYTHIA. The choice of PDF is controlled by the ordinary parameter setting in PYTHIA. This technique enables us to create easy-to-handle event generators for any processes in hadron collisions. Especially, in virtue of large capability of GRACE, we can easily deal with those processes containing many (four or more) partons in the final state, such as multiple heavy particle productions. A parton shower method for the photonic radiative correction is applied to the single W-boson production processes. The energy scale for the evolution of the parton shower is determined so that the correct soft-photon emission is reproduced. Photon spectra radiated from the partons are compared with those from the exact matrix elements, and show a good agreement. Possible errors due to a inappropriate energy-scale selection or due to the ambiguity of energy scale determination are also discussed, particularly for the measurements on triple gauge-couplings., Comment: 17 pages, 6 Postscript figures

This report summarizes the results of the two-fermion working group of the LEP2-MC workshop, held at CERN from 1999 to 2000. Recent developments in the theoretical calculations of the two fermion production process in the electron-positron collision at LEP2 center of the mass energies are reported. The Bhabha process and the production of muon, tau, neutrino and quark pairs is covered. On the basis of comparison of various calculations, theoretical uncertainties are estimated and compared with those needed for the final LEP2 data analysis. For the study of reactions in High Energy Physics (HEP) automatic computation systems have been developed and are widely used nowadays. GRACE is one of such systems and it has achieved much success in analyzing experimental data. Since we deal with the cross section whose value can be given by calculating hundreds of Feynman diagrams, we manage the large scale calculation, so that effective symbolic manipulation, the treat of singularity in the numerical integration are required. Inclusion of the QED higher order radiative corrections in the two-photon process, e+e- -> e+e- mu+mu-, is examined by means of the structure function and the parton shower. Results are compared with the exact $O(\alpha)$ calculations and give a good agreement. These two methods should be universally applicable to any other non-annihilation processes like the single-W productions in the e+e- collisions. In this case, however, the energy scale for the evolution by the renormalization-group equation should be chosen properly depending on the dominant diagrams for the given process. We develop an event generator, NLL-QEDPS, based on the QED shower including the next-to-leading logarithm correction in the e^+e^- annihilation. The shower model is the Monte Carlo technique to solve the renormalization group equation so that they can calculate contributions of alpha^m log^n(S/m_e^2) for any m and n systematically. Here alpha is the QED coupling, m_e is the mass of electron and S is the square of the total energy in the e^+e^- system. While the previous QEDPS is limited to the leading logarithm approximation which includes only contributions of (alpha log(S/m_e^2))^n, the model developed here contains terms of alpha(alpha log(S/m_e^2))^n, the the next-to-leading logarithm correction. The shower model is formulated for the initial radiation in the e^+e^- annihilation. The generator based on it gives us events with q^2, which is a virtual mass squared of the virtual photon and/or Z-boson, in accuracy of 0.04%, except for small q^2/S., Comment: 35 pages, 1 figure(eps-file)

A new event generator is proposed for two processes e+e- -> nu nu-bar gamma and e+e- -> nu nu-bar gamma gamma where nu includes all the neutrino species. The exact matrix elements of single- and double-photon emission, generated by the GRACE system, are convoluted with the QED parton shower(QEDPS) to deal with the initial state radiations(ISR). It is pointed out that a careful treatment is required to avoid the double counting of the radiative photons between the matrix elements and the ISR part. A detailed comparison of grc-nu-nu-gamma with the O(alpha) calculations and other similar Monte Carlo generators is discussed on the total cross section and on various distributions. It is also examined how the possible effects of the anomalous triple-gauge-boson couplings can be observed., Comment: 30 pages, 12 figures

A general non-linear gauge condition is implemented into GRACE, an automated system for the calculation of physical processes in high-energy physics. This new gauge-fixing is used as a very efficient means to check the results of large scale evaluation in the standard model computed automatically. \susy23 is a Monte-Carlo package for generating supersymmetric (SUSY) processes at $e^+e^-$ colliders. Twenty-three types of SUSY processes with 2 or 3 final state particles at tree level are included in version 2.0. {\susy23} addresses event simulation requirements at $e^+e^-$ colliders such as LEP. Matrix elements are generated by GRACE with the helicity amplitude method for processes involving massive fermions. The phase space integration of the matrix element gives the total and differential cross sections, then unweighted events are generated. Sparticle widths and decay branching ratios are calculated. Each final state particle may then decay according to these probabilities. Spin correlations are taken into account in the decays of sparticles. Corrections of initial state radiation (ISR) are implemented in two ways, one is based on the electron structure function formalism and the second uses the parton shower algorithm called QEDPS. Using the automatic system GRACE-LOOP, the full $O(\alpha)$ electroweak corrections has been calculated for the process $e^+e^- \to W^+\mu \bar{\nu}_{\mu}$. The total correction to the cross section is found to be typically -6.4% at $\sqrt{s}=190$ GeV with $10^\circ$ cut on the muon angle from the beam, including the correction from the hard photon emission. It is observed that the correction is rather sensitive to the physical parameters. With the same conditions the correction corresponding to the real W-boson pair is -4.1% and hence the deviation is not negligible., Comment: 4 pages, latex with epsf.sty. 1 figure embedded with latex command and one postscript figure.
