Background In many studies, vitamin D has been found to be low in COVID-19 patients. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between clinical course and inhospital mortality with parenteral administration of high-dose vitamin D.sub.3 within the first 24 h of admission to patients who were hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU) because of COVID-19 with vitamin D deficiency. Methods This study included 175 COVID-19 patients with vitamin D deficiency [25(OH) D Results Median C-reactive protein level was 10.8 mg/dL in the vitamin D.sub.3 group and 10.6 mg/dL in the control group (p = 0.465). Thirty-nine percent (n = 44) of the patients in the vitamin D.sub.3 group were intubated endotracheally, and 50% (n = 31) of the patients in the control group were intubated endotracheally (p = 0.157). Parenteral vitamin D.sub.3 administration was not associated with inhospital mortality by multivariate logistic regression analysis. According to Kaplan-Meier survival analysis, the median survival time was 16 d in the vitamin D3 group and 17 d in the control group (log-rank test, p = 0.459). Objective: Bone and soft tissue tumors have high mortality and morbidity rates. With new improvements in adjuvant–neoadjuvant therapies and new endoprosthesis designs, limb salvage surgery methods became more popular than amputations. The aim of our study was to evaluate the clinical and radiological results of patients who underwent surgery due to tumors around the knee with megaprosthesis. We also compared hinged and rotational hinged megaprosthesis to determine if they have advantages over each other. Methods: This study has a cohort design. Thirty-one patients who had been operated between 2000 and 2018 by a single surgeon with knee megaprosthesis were evaluated using International Limb Salvage Symposium criteria (ISOLS score). Results: The 5-year survival rate for the prostheses was 46.2%. The overall Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) score was 84.65% ± 9.94% (range: 54%-97%) (fair-excellent), and the ISOLS score was 86.60% ± 10.47% (range: 45%-100%) (poor-excellent). There were no significant differences between the scores according to prosthesis types. As the strength of straight leg lift increased, so did the emotional acceptance for both types of prostheses. Conclusion: Megaprosthesis is a good choice of treatment for tumors around the knee without decreasing life expectancy. Background and Aim: Several laboratory tools are used to evaluate balance disorders but, there is still no screening test to determine the site and the severity of the lesion. The aim was to investigate whether video Head Impulse Test (vHIT) can be used as a screening test in patients with chronic or recurrent vertigo and dizziness. Methods: The files of 965 patients who were followed up in our vertigo outpatient clinic were reviewed retrospectively. Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex (VOR) gains and saccadic movements of the right and left lateral canals in the vHIT test, and Canal Paresis (CP) in the Caloric Testing (CT) were noted. Results: A total of 325 patients were included in our study. In CT results, the group that CP was most frequently detected was Menière's Disease (MD) group (71 patients (74.7%). While vHIT results were found to be pathological in the vast majority of patients in the Vestibular Neuritis (VN) group (72.7%), the results were found to be normal at the highest rate in the vestibular migraine group (77.9%). Correlation analysis showed a significant but weak correlation between the degree of CP in the CT and the VOR gains of the lateral canals in vHIT in all groups. Conclusion: Although it has high sensitivity in cases with VN and vestibulopathy, we think that vHIT cannot be used as a screening tool in patients with vertigo, especially for chronic cases, since its sensitivity rate differs in the long term according to the cause of the disease. Background: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a genetically inherited cardiac disorder with diverse clinical presentations. Adrenergic activity, primarily mediated through beta-adrenoceptors, plays a central role in the clinical course of HCM. Adrenergic stimulation increases cardiac contractility and heart rate through beta-1 adrenoceptor activation. Beta-blocker drugs are recommended as the primary treatment for symptomatic HCM patients to mitigate these effects. Methods: This prospective study aimed to investigate the impact of common ADRB-1 gene polymorphisms, specifically serine-glycine at position 49 and arginine-glycine at position 389, on the clinical and structural aspects of HCM. Additionally, the study explored the association between these genetic variations and the response to betablocker therapy in HCM patients. Results: A cohort of 147 HCM patients was enrolled, and comprehensive assessments were performed. The findings revealed that the Ser49Gly polymorphism significantly influenced ventricular ectopic beats, with beta-blocker therapy effectively reducing them in Ser49 homozygous patients. Moreover, natriuretic peptide levels decreased, particularly in Ser49 homozygotes, indicating improved cardiac function. Left ventricular outflow obstruction, a hallmark of HCM, was also reduced following beta-blocker treatment in all patient groups. In contrast, the Arg389Gly polymorphism did not significantly impact baseline parameters or beta-blocker response. Conclusion: These results emphasize the role of the Ser49Gly polymorphism in the ADRB-1 gene in shaping the clinical course and response to beta-blocker therapy in HCM patients. This insight may enable a more personalized approach to managing HCM by considering genetic factors in treatment decisions. In recent years, the different dietary needs of consumers due to their health problems, such as food allergies and lactose intolerance, or lifestyle changes, well-being trends, and increasing awareness about environmental concerns, causes an increment in consumers' demand to have more plant-based foods in the diet. In this regard, more sustainable alternatives for different food systems come into prominence, and the market size for new plant-based alternatives, especially for dairy products, is ever-increasing. Ice cream is a complex colloidal structure and is defined as a frozen foam that is considered a suitable matrix for plant-based milk substitutes. Although it is hard to obtain a stable colloidal ice cream structure when replacing cow's milk with plant-based alternatives, the coconut-based, soy-based, and almond-based milk alternatives are regarded as some of the most suitable choices for ice cream production. According to studies, coconut milk's fat and protein content helps the formation of emulsion and stabilization of the foam system. Also, it is indicated that soy-based ice cream is a good carrier for probiotics, has a better melting resistance, and has comparable sensorial properties with dairy ice cream when used together with milk alternative combinations. However, some technological, microbiological, and sensorial properties of plant-based ice creams were not similar to ice cream made with cow's milk. Eventually, innovative approaches to producing ice cream with different milk alternatives could be promising and beneficial for the sustainable food industry and should continue to be developed to meet the current needs and interests. In businesses, it is a requirement of strategic management that employees adopt organizational goals as their own goals. When examined from the perspective of human resources management, making career plans of the employees who best embrace the business goals and performing best, raising their career ladders horizontally or vertically will contribute to better adoption of strategic goals. The aim of the research is to reveal whether career management has any effect on employee performance. Survey technique was applied in the research. A survey was conducted with 480 employees in businesses operating in the Mediterranean region and employing more than 50 personnel, and normality, homogeneity, exploratory factor analysis and multiple regression analyzes were applied in the SPSS statistical program. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that career management consists of a two-factor structure, and the validity of the structure was proven with confirmatory factor analysis. It was concluded that there is a medium level relationship between the variables of career planning and career management, which are the sub-dimensions of the scale, that career planning does not have a positive effect on employee performance, and that the career management dimension affects employee performance positively and significantly.
