"Objectives: The aims of this study were to translate the Pelvic Girdle Questionnaire (PGQ) to Turkish and to assess its test-retest reliability and validity in pregnant women. Materials and Methods: One hundred and thirty-five pregnant with pelvic girdle pain were recruited in the study. Visual analog scale was used to evaluate pain intensity, PGQ for condition-specific health related quality of life, Nottingham Health Profile for health-related quality of life, Oswestry Disability Index for disability level, The guidelines for cross-cultural adaptation in PGQ was used. Results: A total of 135 pregnant with a mean age of the 30±4.77 years included in the study. Interclass correlation coefficient score for test-retest reliability was 0.972 (95% CI= 0.968-0.977) for PGQ activity subscale, 0.910 (95% CI=0.905-0.915) for PGQ symptom subscale and 0.979 (95% CI= 0.975-0.983) for PGQ total. Conclusion: The study demonstrated that Turkish version of PGQ is a valid and reliable tool for measuring both disability and symptom and good psychometric properties in Turkish speaking pregnants with pelvic girdle pain." Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı gebe kadınlarda Pelvik Kuşak Anketi'ni (PKA) Türkçe'ye çevirmek ve testtekrar test güvenilirliği ve geçerliğini değerlendirmekti. Materyal ve Metot: Çalışmaya pelvik kuşak ağrısı olan 135 gebe alındı. Ağrı şiddetini değerlendirmek için görsel analog skalası, duruma özel sağlık ile ilgili yaşam kalitesine için PKA, sağlıkla ilgili yaşam kalitesi için Nottingham Sağlık Profili, özürlülük düzeyi için Oswestry Özürlülük İndeksi, PKA'da kültürlerarası uyum için kılavuzlar kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Çalışmaya yaş ortalaması 30 ± 4,77 olan 135 gebe dahil edildi. Test-tekrar test güvenirliği için sınıflar arası korelasyon katsayısı puanı, PKA aktivite alt boyutu için 0,972 (% 95 CI = 0,968-0,977), PKA semptom alt boyutu için 0,910 (% 95 CI = 0,905-0,915) ve PKA toplam için 0,979 (% 95 CI = 0,905-0,915) olarak bulundu. Sonuç: Çalışma, pelvik kuşak ağrısı olan Türkçe konuşan gebelerde PKA'nin Türkçe versiyonunun hem sakatlığı hem de semptomu ölçmek için geçerli ve güvenilir bir araç olduğunu ve iyi psikometrik özelliklere sahip olduğunu göstermiştir.

Objectives: The psychosocial factors that may affect the prognosis of patients with low back pain are generally disregarded. The StarT Back Screening Tool can help clinicians to analyze prognostic indicators and the risk associated with outcome by examining physical and psychosocial factors. The aim of this study was to investigate the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the StarT Back Screening Tool, including cross-cultural adaptation, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and construct validity. Methods: In this study, 120 patients with non-specific low back pain were included. The Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire, Oswestry Disability Index, Beck Depression Inventory, Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia, and the StarT Back Screening Tool were administered. One week after the initial testing, the same examiner repeated the tests. Results: The mean age of the patients who participated in the study was 35.54 +/- 12.45 years. Cronbach's alpha coefficients in the analysis of scale reliability were 0.747 for the overall scale and 0.738 for the psychosocial subscale. The test-retest reliability of StarT Back Screening Tool (intraclass correlation coefficient: 0.90-0.93) was found to be excellent. BACKGROUND AND AIM: Lower muscle strength, impaired balance and reduced exercise capacity are physical function factors known to be associated with increased fear of falling (FOF) in older adults, however, there is litle knowledge about the relationship between FOF and these factors in patients with COPD. This study aims to compare the level of FOF and balance in patients with COPD with healthy controls, and to determine the associations between disease-related factors and FOF and measures of physical function and physical activity in COPD. METHODS: FOF was assessed in 55 (10 female and 45 male) participants with COPD and 55 age- and gender-matched controls using the Falls Efficacy Scale (FES). Physical function was evaluated using quadriceps femoris muscle strength with manual muscle test, hand grip strength with Jamar hand dynamometry, the Berg Balance Scale, one leg stand and the Six-minute Walk Test. Physical activity level was evaluated with Godin Leisure-Time Physical Activity Questionnaire. RESULTS: Patients with COPD (mean age 68,50±8,15, FEV1: 44,79±18,18 %pred) had higher FOF compared to controls (FES: 43,85±25,91 vs 25.16±12,47, p=0.00). Background and Aim: It is known that eudema, infection, ischemia, immobilization, using invasive or non-invasive equipment may cause pain in intensive care patients (ICP). The patient self report is the most reliable source of pain assesment but the assessment of pain is so difficult because of sedation, disturbed consciousness and they cannot communicate verbally. The aim of our study was to evaluate the intubated and sedated ICP pain level and to determine the factors that affect the perception of pain. Methods: In our study, 75 patients who were treated in ICU of a university hospital were included. Vital signs, arterial blood gas values were recorded and Apache II scores were calculated. Behavioral Pain Scale (BPS), Nonverbal Pain Scale for Adults (SOAO), Ramsay Sedation Scale (RSO), Motor Activity Assessment Scale (MAAS) and Sedation Agitation Scale (SAS) were applied with the observational method in all cases to evaluate the severity of pain and sedation level. Results: The mean age was 69.48±12,51 and 39(52%) were female and 36(48%) were male. According to SOAO score of 32% ICP has no pain, 44% had moderate painand 24% had severe pain. Mean RSO and MAAS score was 3.16±1.74 and 2.64±1.68, respectively. Background and Aim: Smoking cessation counseling by health professionals is an effective approach to increase cessation rates among smokers. Physiotherapists are positioned in health care to initiate or support smoking cessation (SC). Little is known, however, about their knowledge and views of SC as part of their practices. This is the first study to investigate the knowledge and views about SC of physiotherapists. The purpose of this study was to assess physiotherapists9 knowledge about the health effects of smoking, their views about addressing SC in practice, and their self-efficacy in enabling patients to quit smoking. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, a survey instrument comprised sociodemographics, knowledge and views about smoking, barriers and facilitators, and self-efficacy regarding SC counseling was sent to physiotherapists who are members of Turkish Physiotherapy Association Network and 156 physiotherapists answered it. Results: The mean age and years of clinical experience of the respondents were 32.4±8.08 and 10.44±8.39, respectively. Most respondents (64.1%) were women. Physiotherapists are largely informed about the negative effects of smoking on health. 82.1% of the physiotherapists agreed or strongly agreed that they should receive training on smoking cessation. The level of self-efficacy regarding counseling about smoking cessation was low. Lack of resources and time were reported to be key barriers to counseling patients to quit smoking. Conclusions: Overall, the majority of physiotherapists expressed the view that advising people who smoke to quit is a clinical responsibility and endorsed greater involvement of the profession in helping people who smoke quit.

The patients participated in a single session of MT to measure the short-term effects. The lung function was measured using a portable spirometer. An electronic pressure transducer was used to measure respiratory muscle strength. Heart rate, breathing frequency, and oxygen saturation were measured with a pulse oximeter. For fatigue and dyspnea perception, the modified Borg rating of perceived exertion scale was used. All measurements were taken before and immediately after the first MT session. Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), is multisystem affecting extrapulmonary systems, a partially reversible disorder that leads to substantial morbidity and mortality. Musculo-skeletal system is one of the most affected system. The purpose of this study was to investigate the immediate effects of manual therapy (MT) on pulmonary function, respiratory muscle strength, dispnea, fatigue, SpO2 and heart rate of patients with COPD. Method: Clinically stable 30 patients with COPD participated in this study. Patients received manual therapy that consisted of myofascial release,friction, mobilization of soft tissue and joint. Pulmonary function using spirometry, respiratory muscle strength using mouth pressure device, dydpnea and fatique using visual analog scale, SpO2 and HR using pulse oximetry were evaluated immediately before and after treatment. Results: The results showed that lung function FVC and FEV1, respiratory muscle strength MIP and MEP significantly increased. Dyspnea, fatique and HR decreased and SpO2 increased immediately after MT (p Conclusions: It has been appeared that MT improved immediately pulmonary function, respiratory muscle strength and reduced dispne and fatigue of patients. The benefits of inspiratory muscle training(IMT) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) were reported.But in severe COPD patients, benefit from IMT may be limited.There is need for further research in new and complementary modalities to improve IMT efficiency in severe COPD patients.Manual therapy(MT) additional over IMT may be such a new approach that has not yet been investigated in COPD. Aims: To investigate effects of MT additional over IMT on functional capacity,respiratory muscle strength,pulmonary function,dyspnea, fatigue and quality of life in severe COPD patients. Methods: A prospective single-blind randomized trial.40 patients(62,4±6,8 years, FEV1 29,6±6,3%) with COPD in GOLD stage III-IV were included. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either MT additional over IMT at 40% of maximal inspiratory pressure(MIP)(n= 20) or only IMT(n= 20) for 12 weeks. MT group received MT during 12 weeks for 30 minutes additional to IMT. Pulmonary function using spirometry, respiratory muscle strength using mouth pressure device, functional capasity using six minute walk test, dyspnea using Modifiye Medical Resarh Council(MMRC) dyspnea scale, fatique using fatique severity scale and quality of life using St. George9s Respiratory Questionnaire(SGRQ) were evaluated. Results: 6MWT distance increased 71m in MT group and 39m in IMT group. MT group had significantly greater improvement in FEV1%,FVC%,PEF%, respiratory muscle strength,dyspnea,fatique and quality of life compared with IMT group(p Conclusions: MT additional over IMT may be an alternative method to improve IMT efficiency in severe COPD patients.

According to literature, virtual reality was found to reduce pain and kinesiophobia in patients with chronic pain. The purpose of the study was to investigate short-term effect of the virtual reality on pain, function, and kinesiophobia in patients with subacute and chronic non-specific low-back pain METHODS: This randomised controlled study in which 44 patients were randomly assigned to the traditional physiotherapy (control group, 22 subjects) or virtual walking integrated physiotherapy (experimental group, 22 subjects). Before and after treatment, Visual Analog Scale (VAS), TAMPA Kinesiophobia Scale (TKS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Nottingham Health Profile (NHP), Timed-up and go Test (TUG), 6-Minute Walk Test (6MWT), and Single-Leg Balance Test were assessed. The interaction effect between group and time was assessed by using repeated-measures analysis of covariance.After treatment, both groups showed improvement in all parameters. However, VAS, TKS, TUG, and 6MWT scores showed significant differences in favor of the experimental group.Virtual walking integrated physiotherapy reduces pain and kinesiophobia, and improved function in patients with subacute and chronic non-specific low-back pain in short term.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of postural stabilization exercises on pain, muscle strength and function in females with patellofemoral pain.Methods: Forty-two volunteers with patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) were included in this study. The subjects were randomly divided into two groups: Group 1 performed therapeutic knee and postural stabilization exercises (n=22); Group 2 performed therapeutic knee exercises only (n=20).
