In this study, real effective exchange rate riskwas determined and the effects of macroeconomic variables that cause so-calledrisk were analyzed for the period of 2000Q1-2018Q2 in Turkey. For this purpose,EGARCH and OLS models were used. The empirical findings of the study suggestedthat effects of the shocks in real effective exchange rate continuedapproximately 40 days and negative shocks affected real effective exchange ratevolatility more than positive shocks. Besides, a positive relationship betweenexposure and portfolio investments, current account deficit and central bankreserves, while there was a negative relationship between exposure and foreigndirect investments., Bu çalışmada,Türkiye ekonomisinde 2000Q1-2018Q2 döneminde reel efektif döviz kuru riskininbelirlenerek, söz konusu riski ortaya çıkaran makroekonomik değişkenlerinetkileri analiz edilmiştir. EGARCH ve EKK yöntemlerinin kullanıldığı çalışmanınsonucunda elde edilen analiz bulgularına göre, reel efektif döviz kurundameydana gelen şokların etkisinin yaklaşık 40 gün sürdüğü ve negatif şokların reelefektif döviz kuru oynaklığı üzerinde pozitif şoklara göre daha etkili olduğugörülmüştür. Ayrıca, Türkiye’de döviz kuru riskini portföy yatırımları, cariaçık ve merkez bankası rezervleri pozitif etkilerken; doğrudan yabancıyatırımların istatistiki olarak anlamlı bir etkisi saptanmamıştır.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, 2002:1-2016:12 döneminde Türkiye’de ayı ve boğa piyasaları açısından hisse senedi getirilerinin ve oynaklığının para politikasına asimetrik tepkisini analiz etmektir. Ayı ve boğa piyasalarını tanımlamak amacıyla Markov rejim değişim modeli kullanılmıştır. Para politikası aracı olarak ise politika faiz oranı kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda, para politikasının boğa piyasasında daha etkin olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır., Purpose of this study is to analyze the asymmetric response of stock market returns and volatility to monetary policy in bull and bear markets in Turkey over the period of 2002:1-2016:12. We used Markov switching model in order to identify bull and bear markets. We used policy rate as monetary policy instrument. From the empirical results, we deduced that monetary policy is more effective in bull market periods.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the export performance of Turkey by Constant Market Share method for the period 1995-2011. Turkey’s trade with its major trading partners (the first 20 countries with largest shares in Turkey’s export) is analysed by using SITC Rev.3 three digit data. The evaluation of Turkey’s export performance was based on market share effect, commodity composition effect and commodity adaptation effect. The results reveal that the increase in Turkey’s export performance stemmed from positive market share and commodity composition effects. The commodity adaptation effect was mostly negative during the same period. These findings lead us to conclude that Turkey may improve its export performance further by adapting its export commodity group to the changing demand structure of these markets., Bu çalışmanın amacı, Sabit Pazar Payı (SPP) yöntemini kullanarak Türkiye’nin 1995-2011 dönemindeki ihracat performansını incelemektir. Türkiye’nin ihracat performansı pazar payı etkisi, mal bileşimi etkisi ve mal uyum etkisine dayanarak açıklanmıştır. Bu etkileri belirlemek için, Türkiye’nin en büyük ticaret ortakları (ihracatta en büyük paya sahip ilk yirmi ülke) ile gerçekleştirdiği ihracatının gelişimi, SITC. Rev. 3 sınıflamasına dahil 3 basamaklı mal gruplarına ilişkin veriler ile analiz edilmiştir. Analiz sonuçlarına göre, ele alınan dönemde ülkemizin ihracat performansını artırdığı, bu artışın da büyük oranda pazar payı ve mal bileşimi etkisiyle ortaya çıktığı söylenebilir. Ancak mal uyum etkisi açısından büyük ölçüde bir olumsuzluk söz konusudur. Bulgularımız, Türkiye’nin ihracat performansını arttırması için bu pazarların değişen talep yapısına uygun mal ihracatını artırması ve geliştirmesi yönündedir

An analysis of equilibrium exchange rate with portfolio approach: The case of Turkey The aim of this study is to identify the effect of portfolio preferences of Turkish decision mechanisms on the change on equilibrium exchange rate. The validity of portfolio approach was analysed by Markov Regime Switching Model. The study identifies a process with double regimes. Regime 1 represents a process in which the exchange rate is unstable, Regime 2 represents it stable. According to the results of analyses of the model, in regime 1, the portfolio preferences of decision mechanisms have no effect on the change on equilibrium exchange rate. Contrary to this result, regime 2 has a higher probability to explain the changes on equilibrium exchange rate. In this period, the crisis processes of regime periods were identified. The variables such as debt of private sector in foreign currency units, current account deficits and interest rates are determinants in the formation of equilibrium exchange rate.

1980 sonrası dönemde finansal piyasalar üzerindeki kısıtlamaların ortadan kaldırılması ve sermaye hareketlerine tam serbestinin sağlanması ile ekonomik karar birimlerinin portföy tercihleri denge döviz kuru üzerinde etkili olmaya başlamıştır. Bu nedenle geliştirilen portföy yaklaşımında, karar birimlerinin portföy yapısı finansal varlıklar ve yükümlülükleri temsil eden araçlara göre belirlenmektedir. Buna göre, karar birimlerinin servetlerini, ulusal ve yabancı paralar ile finansal araçlar arasında dağıttıkları kabul edilmektedir. Bu nedenle denge döviz kuru, ekonomik karar birimlerinin portföylerinde yer alan ulusal ve yabancı para cinsinden finansal araçlar tarafından belirlenen bir fiyattır. Bu finansal araçlar arasında tam ikamenin olmadığı varsayıldığından, bir finansal risk söz konusudur. Dolayısıyla ekonomik karar birimleri portföylerini bu risklere bağlı olarak oluşturmaktadırlar.Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye`de ekonomik karar birimlerinin portföy tercihlerini ve bu portföy tercihlerinin denge döviz kuru üzerindeki etkisini belirlemektir. Çalışmada denge döviz kurunun oluşumunda portföy yaklaşımının geçerliliği doğrusal olmayan modelleme tekniklerinden Markov Rejim Değişimi ve SETAR modeli ile analiz edilmiştir. Bu teknikler ile zaman serisinde çoklu yapısal kırılmalar ve doğrusal olmayan yapılar incelenerek, rejimler arası olasılıklar belirlenmektedir.Çalışmada iki rejimli bir süreç tanımlanmıştır. ?Rejim 1? döviz kurunun istikrarsız olduğu (döviz kurunun yükselme eğilimi gösterdiği), ?rejim 2? ise döviz kurunun ulusal para karşısındaki değerinin istikrarlı bir seyir izlediği (döviz kurunun aşağı yönlü bir seyir izlediği) süreci temsil etmektedir. Modellerin analiz sonuçlarına göre, rejim 1'de ekonomik karar birimlerinin portföy tercihleri denge döviz kurunun değişimi üzerinde etkili değildir. Buna karşın, rejim 2'de söz konusu değişkenlerin denge döviz kurundaki değişimleri açıklama gücü daha yüksektir.Portföy yaklaşımı çerçevesinde denge döviz kurunun oluşumunu açıklamaya çalışan bu iki modelin ele alındığı dönemde, rejim dönemlerini yaşanan kriz süreçleri belirlemiştir. Ele alınan yaklaşıma göre, kriz dönemlerinden yüksek devalüasyon ve ihracat artışları ile çıkılmış gibi görünse de, ağırlıklı özel kesimin borçlanması etkilidir. Bu açıdan denge döviz kurunun oluşumunda özel kesimin yabancı para cinsinden borcu, cari açık ve faiz oranı değişkenleri belirleyici olmuştur. In the period after 1980, the portfolio preferences of decision makers have started to be effective on equilibrium exchange rate by the removal of limitations on financial markets and by providing full liberty for capital movement. In the portfolio approach which was developed for this reason, the portfolio structure of the decision mechanisms are identified by instruments representing financial assets and liabilities. According to this, it has been accepted that the assests of decision mechanisms are allocated between foreign and national currencies and financial instruments. Because of this reason, equilibrium exchange rate is a pricing unit decided upon by the financial instruments that are in foreign or national currency units. Since there is not a full substitution between these financial instruments, there is always a financial risk. Hence, the economic decision mechanisms create their portfolios subordinate to these risks.The aim of this study is to identify the portfolio preferences of Turkish decision mechanisms and the effect of their portfolio preferences on equilibrium exchange rate. The validity of portfolio approach on forming the equilibrium exchange rate was analysed by one of the nonlinear models; Markov Regime Switching Approach and SETAR model. With these techniques, multiple unstructural breaks and nonlinear structures in time series were examined in order to identify the probabilities among regimes.The study identifies a process with double regimes. Regime 1 represents a process in which the exchange rate is unstable (exchange rate has a tendency to increase) and Regime 2 represents a process in which the exchange rate is stable (exchange rate has a downward tendency). According to the results of analyses of the models, in regime 1, the portfolio preferences of decision mechanisms have no effect on the change on equilibrium exchange rate. Contrary to this result, the variables mentioned in regime 2 have higher probability to explain the changes on equilibrium exchange rate.In this period which tries to explain the formation of equilibrium exchange rate in the framework of portfolio approach with these two models, the crisis processes of regime peroids were identified. Although it seems that the periods of crisis end with high devaluation and increases in export according to the approach that was investigated, actually the loan accounts of private sector is effective in that regard. Intra-industry trade (IIT), a recently emerging concept in the foreign trade litareture, is defined as exchange of goods in forms of export and import within the same industry. Purpose of this study is to examine the intra-industry trade development of the Turkish chemical industry export/import activity with some forefront countries such as, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, Greece, Holland, Spain, France, Switzerland, Hungary, Belgium, England, Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic of European Union member countries and Bulgaria, Romania of EU candidate countries; Russian Federation, Ukraine and China. First, static analysis has been made, with data of chemical industry product category in accordance with 5 digit SITC Rev.3 for the period of 1990-2005. Then, dynamic analysis has been conducted to determine marginal intra industry trade using Brülhart’s A and B indexes, Dış ticaret literatüründe son yıllarda ortaya çıkan Endüstri İçi Ticaret (EİT) kavramı, aynı endüstriye ait malların iki yönlü değişimi olarak tanımlanabilir. Çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye’nin kimya sanayi ürünleri ithalat ve ihracatında öne çıkan ülkeler ile endüstri içi ticaretinin gelişimini incelemektir. Bu ülkeler Avrupa Birliği ülkelerinden Almanya, İtalya, Portekiz, İsveç, Yunanistan, Hollanda, İspanya, Fransa, Macaristan, Belçika, İngiltere, Danimarka, Polonya, Çek Cumhuriyeti ve AB’ye aday ülkelerden Bulgaristan, Romanya ile ayrıca Rusya Federasyonu, Ukrayna ve Çin’dir. İlk olarak, 1990–2005 dönemini kapsayan, SITC Rev.3’e göre 5 basamaklı kimya sanayi ürün grubuna ait verilerle, standart Grubel-Lloyd endeksi kullanılarak statik analiz yapılmıştır. Daha sonra Brülhart’ın marjinal endüstri-içi ticareti belirlemeye yönelik A ve B endeksleri kullanılarak da dinamik analize yer verilmiştir
