Abstract

One of the principal areas of interest of the Library of the CNR Area in Pisa is in authors' Rights Retention. Indeed, the staff regularly supports the personnel in the publication process, from choosing the publication venue to depositing their products in the institutional archive, finding that many researchers need to be made aware of their rights and how to retain them. For this reason, the library staff participates in the CLAKP and Right2Pub initiatives. CLAKP (Copyright Law and Access to Knowledge Policies Group) is a research group aiming to strengthen the right to knowledge as essential for education, innovation, and cultural access. Right2Pub (The Authors' Voice from the Italian Research Community) project aims to build an awareness of the importance of Secondary Publishing Rights and Rights Retention in the Italian Research Community. In our work, we describe the two ongoing initiatives and the contribution of our library to them. We also illustrate the first results of a preliminary study on the role of Grey Literature on this topic and how some European countries approach it. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

5. Information theoretic aspects in ponderomotive systems

Abstract

We show the possibility to entangle radiation modes through a simple reflection on a moving mirror. The model of an optical cavity having a movable end mirror, and supporting different modes is employed. The mechanical motion of the mirror mediates information between the modes leading to an effective mode-mode interaction. We characterize the modes' entanglement on the basis of recent separability criteria. The effect of the thermal noise associate to the mirror's motion is accounted for. Then, we evaluate the performances of such {\it ponderomotive entanglement} in possible applications like teleportation and telecloning., Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures, (introduction revisited)

Abstract

Lymph nodes (LNs) are the critical sites of immunity, and the stromal cells of LNs are crucial to their function. Our understanding of the stromal compartment of the LN has deepened recently with the characterization of nontraditional stromal cells. CD41 (integrin aIIb) is known to be expressed by platelets and hematolymphoid cells. We identified two distinct populations of CD41+Lyve1+ and CD41+Lyve1-cells in the LNs. CD41+Lyve1-cells appear in the LN mostly at the later stages of the lives of mice. We identified CD41+ cells in human LNs as well. We demonstrated that murine CD41+ cells express mesodermal markers, such as Sca-1, CD105 and CD29, but lack platelet markers. We did not observe the presence of platelets around the HEVs or within proximity to fibroblastic reticular cells of the LN. Examination of thoracic duct lymph fluid showed the presence of CD41+Lyve1-cells, suggesting that these cells recirculate throughout the body. FTY720 reduced their trafficking to lymph fluid, suggesting that their egress is controlled by the S1P1 pathway. CD41+Lyve1-cells of the LNs were sensitive to radiation, suggestive of their replicative nature. Single cell RNA sequencing data showed that the CD41+ cell population in naïve mouse LNs expressed largely stromal cell markers. 44. Open Access – A never-ending transition?

Abstract

In recent years, Open Access (OA) has obtained growing attention from the public. From academics to active citizenship, having access to the results of science is a matter of great importance for many different reasons. For instance, research is, in the majority of the cases, publicly funded, and for this reason, its results should be in the public domain. The production of scientists would undoubtedly benefit from the broader view of the scientific landscape they would have. Funders may see either the profits or the impact of their expenditures and decide where to orientate future investments. Moreover, the results of previous investigations show that OA publications receive more citations than those behind a paywall (cf. Gargouri et al., 2010; Piwowar et al., 2018), favoring academics in research assessment exercises based on such metrics as citation counts.

The IRPPS (Istituto di Ricerca sulla Popolazione e le Politiche Sociali) Library, established in 1981, through his acquisitions policy, has become, from a demographic subject library, a library with high specialized collections in the statistic studies. Semantic access follows a modified scheme of Population Index. In the framework of a co-operation with ISTI Library catalogue automation, and his network availability are managed through the sw LIBERO (Infologic s.r.l.). ISTI has realized data transfer from ISIS, UNIMARC mapping, client installation and personnel training.
