The best known solutions for k-message broadcast in dynamic networks of size n require Ω (nk) rounds. In this article, we see if these bounds can be improved by smoothed analysis. To do so, we study perhaps the most natural randomized algorithm for disseminating tokens in this setting: at every timestep, choose a token to broadcast randomly from the set of tokens you know. We show that with even a small amount of smoothing (i.e., one random edge added per round), this natural strategy solves k-message broadcast in \(\tilde{O}(n+k^3)\) rounds, with high probability, beating the best known bounds for \(k=o(\sqrt {n})\) and matching the Ω (n+k) lower bound for static networks for k=O(n1/3) (ignoring logarithmic factors). In fact, the main result we show is even stronger and more general: Given ℓ-smoothing (i.e., ℓ random edges added per round), this simple strategy terminates in \(O(kn^{2/3}\log ^{1/3}(n)\ell ^{-1/3})\) rounds. We then prove this analysis close to tight with an almost-matching lower bound. To better understand the impact of smoothing on information spreading, we next turn our attention to static networks, proving a tight bound of \(\tilde{O}(k\sqrt {n})\) rounds to solve k-message broadcast, which is better than what our strategy can achieve in the dynamic setting. This confirms the intuition that although smoothed analysis reduces the difficulties induced by changing graph structures, it does not eliminate them altogether. Finally, we apply tools developed to support our smoothed analysis to prove an optimal result for k-message broadcast in so-called well-mixed networks in the absence of smoothing. By comparing this result to an existing lower bound for well-mixed networks, we establish a formal separation between oblivious and strongly adaptive adversaries with respect to well-mixed token spreading, partially resolving an open question on the impact of adversary strength on the k-message broadcast problem. Applying affective events theory, this article examined the mechanism of negative workplace gossip on employees' innovative behaviors, and explored the mediating role of emotional exhaustion and the moderating role of psychological resilience. We collected questionnaires from 313 frontline workers in the airport services industry and analyzed the data using Amos and the SPSS PROCESS macro. The findings indicated that negative workplace gossip had a significant negative influence on employees' innovative behaviors, and emotional exhaustion partially mediated this relationship. Additionally, contrary to our initial hypothesis, psychological resilience not only failed to weaken the impact of workplace gossip on employees' emotional exhaustion, but actually amplified this relationship. The early modern book economy thrived on a system of bartering, swapping printed sheets for printed sheets or other valuable bookish material. Widely discussed as Tauschhandel in the context of the Frankfurt Book Fair, this practice continued to flourish in the Low Countries during the seventeenth century as the fair's popularity declined. This article examines the bartering practices between the Officina Plantiniana in the city of Antwerp, the best-documented print business of the handpress era, and merchants and booksellers in its northern neighbour Amsterdam. While the output of the Plantin presses is well studied, its input, including maps, lottery tickets, reams of high-quality French and Dutch paper, and even luxury objects such as sugar and globes, has gone unrecognised. Ultimately, I argue that Dutch sellers were motivated to barter with the Officina by their superior access to books, paper, and other luxury goods, and their robust professional and personal networks. This study explores sentiments towards the World ESports Association (WESA) within a Counter-Strike Reddit community. Esports communities have not embraced the various self-proclaimed domestic and international esports governing organisations and are notoriously hostile to any organisation perceived as exploiting them. Our sentiment analysis was based on a review of 5359 comments (distributed across 29 threads and five subreddits) made by Counter-Strike Redditors. We retained 861 of these comments in our final data set. Provisional themes were revised until the main categories were finalised. The key finding was that negative sentiments outweigh positive sentiments. Counter-Strike Redditors criticised WESA for subsequent monopolisation and unnecessary interference in an otherwise functional system, corruption, a lack of transparency and power, and its opportunistic financial behaviour. More positively, WESA is credited with standardising rules and setting standards, enhancing player welfare and protection, growing esports, and offsetting publisher power and incompetence. Despite these sentiments, we propose that esports communities' influence on institutional considerations is likely to be limited. There is an ongoing tension between the initial understanding of gaming and its institutionalisation process. Acquiring player/fan acceptance is an ongoing challenge for these organisations. This article argues that there was a crisis within the British state over policy towards Northern Ireland (1972–76). The Conservative then Labour government pursued a broadly bipartisan and conciliatory policy, culminating in the failed powersharing experiment (1974). By contrast, the New Right within the Conservative Party but also powerful elements in the Army and Intelligence Services, the Royal Ulster Constabulary and Unionism opposed conciliation as ‘appeasement’ and even treachery. They claimed conciliation and rumours of British political support for withdrawal encouraged the IRA and undermined the repressive approach that was necessary to win. From this perspective, the Conservative then Labour government were, in effect, ‘… striving to facilitate the achievement of the PIRA's aims’ and so they resisted government policy. The crisis intensified as more troops were killed, and the Army suffered severe problems of morale, recruitment and retention. The Army's emergency created a need to withdraw troops and Ulsterise the conflict. Although this constrained the Labour government's ability to defend powersharing, the Army also appeared reluctant to support the government's conciliatory policy. The crisis of the British state over Northern Ireland (1972–76) provides part of the context in which allegations about the undermining of Prime Minister Harold Wilson and the Labour government in the 1970s should be considered. This article examines how employees use gossip as a resource to cope with social isolation. Building on a qualitative study with 32 truck drivers in a Western European company, our research identified gossip in close relationships and gossip in distant relationships as distinct patterns playing a different role in coping with social isolation, and a third pattern in which gossip was not beneficial. First, gossiping with close friends at work helped drivers engage in emotion-focused coping by reducing stress and loneliness. Second, gossiping with distant colleagues helped drivers engage in problem-focused coping by exchanging knowledge involving people in the organization. Third, gossip avoidance occurred in distant relationships, where drivers limited gossip exchanges going beyond instrumentally useful information. Overall, these findings show that drivers relied on different layers of their social network to cope with social isolation. Understanding how evaluations of gossip develop in human life is important in terms of shedding light on the social world of children. However, the extent to which children can evaluate gossip is one of the issues that is not adequately addressed in research. Therefore, in the current study, it was examined whether children can distinguish positive, negative and neutral-valued gossip and whether there are developmental differences in this regard. Accordingly, 142 children aged between 5 to 8 yearold were participated. Children were told gossip scenarios with “positive”, “negative” and “neutral” content, each consisting of 5 scenes. As a result of the analysis, it was found that children attributed significantly more positive characteristics to the protagonists in the positive gossip scenario, followed by the protagonists of the neutral and negative gossip scenarios, respectively. The results were interpreted as indicating that children did not evaluate the gossip phenomenon in a single dimension, and that the positive/negative nature of the gossip content was effective in their judgments about gossip. In this discussion, we argue for those who are literacy educators to reframe gossip as a dialogic, feminist act in their teaching and interpretation of gossip as framed in the literature they teach in secondary English language arts (ELA) classrooms. Reframing gossip as a feminist act invites meaning‐makers to view those conversations and generative dialogues discursively gendered in deficit ways (or gossip) as proactive, productive, and powerful tools of connection between and within societies and communities. We share how we centered and created through a critical feminist lens, an ELA curriculum that supports gossip as a literary tool that drives narratives in plot formation, as well as a means to enhance characters' positions, personalities, allies, and enemies within a story. Most importantly, we use gossip as an analytical tool to reframe and promote gender equity, guiding preservice teachers and adolescents in critical analysis of the innumerable ways systems and institutions of power and privilege—such as race, ethnicity, religion, and sexuality—intersect in the fight for gender equality. First, we will discuss our guiding theoretical framework of critical feminist pedagogy to examine the ELA curriculum. Next, we share how the development of a curricular unit on reframing gossip in literature unfolded organically through a monthly Saturday workshop called "Writing Us In: Developing Critical Literacy Curriculum for ELA Classrooms." Then, we showcase how one preservice ELA teacher applied the critical feminist lenses examined within the workshop space to develop a linked text set and subsequent ELA curricular unit with the aims of her future students to critically analyze, from a feminist lens, how gossip is portrayed in society and how it is framed in literature. In this paper, probabilistic quantization on Unbiased Broadcast Gossip Algorithms (UBGA) is introduced to adapt to the limited bandwidth of distributed network channels. This innovative quantized consensus algorithm is called Quantized UBGA (QUBGA). By briefly describing the graph and time model, and reviewing UBGA, it is proved that QUBGA can converge in expectation and in the second moment for strongly connected digraphs. Furthermore, it is proved that the convergence rate of QUBGA is related to quantized resolution and topology structure. Performance analysis results are consistent with theoretical analysis. Purpose: Gossip spreads like wildfire, damaging relationships, decaying trust and creating a negative work environment. This study aims to investigate the relationship between negative workplace gossip (NWG) and quiet quitting (QQ), while considering the mediating effects of workplace stress and emotional exhaustion (EE). Design/methodology/approach: Drawing upon the conservation of resource theory, the study aimed to comprehend this association in the context of 267 employees from diverse sectors in India, including health care, IT, banking and education. Through a three-wave time lagged survey design, using partial least squares structural equation modeling, significant findings were uncovered. Findings: The results revealed a positive link between NWG and QQ. There was also a positive correlation between NWG and workplace stress. In addition, workplace stress and EE were found to mediate the relationship between NWG and QQ. Practical implications: The findings have implications for both theory and practice. Organizations should consider implementing strategies to mitigate the prevalence of negative gossip and foster a healthier work environment, promoting employee well-being and retention. Originality/value: The study reveals the "black box" between NWG and QQ, adding to the body of knowledge on the novel concept of QQ. As a widespread phenomenon in organizations, negative workplace gossip may either facilitate or inhibit knowledge hiding among gossip targets. However, existing literature has not reached a consensus on this matter. Based on the conservation of resources theory, this study proposes the double-edged sword effect of negative workplace gossip and explores when and how negative workplace gossip can promote or inhibit knowledge hiding of the targets. This study collected data from 309 Chinese employees through a two-wave questionnaire survey and analyzed the data using Mplus 8.3 and Process Macro. The study found that for targets with an external locus of control, negative workplace gossip stimulates their negative emotions, thereby promoting knowledge hiding. Conversely, for targets with an internal locus of control, negative workplace gossip will promote their relational crafting, thereby inhibiting knowledge hiding. Finally, this study discusses the theoretical and practical implications of these findings and future research directions, which can help scholars and managers have a better understanding of negative workplace gossip. Ableist hate speech regularly appears in online comment‐enabled articles on social media, whenever disability‐related topics enter public discourse. In 2022, Dylan Alcott's appointment as Australian of the Year as a person with disability was widely celebrated. Despite this progress, we identified new forms of politicised ableism in online responses to his disability advocacy in this role. This research considers readership responses to an April 2022 Facebook post by an Australian tabloid publication. The post editorialised Alcott's Twitter response to the then Australian Prime Minister's comments on feeling "blessed" to have children without disability. Enmeshed within the usual ableist imaginary—"why would any parent want to have a child with disability?"—were new justifications for ableism associated with political "wokeness." We analyse this emerging contour of politicised ableism in contemporary Australia to consider the complex patterns of progress toward social justice for people with disability. This essay examines the role of rumors in F. W. Murnau's films as well as in later writings about his life and career. While Murnau perpetuates long-standing figurations of gossip as a frivolous or even malicious activity, he also grants unverified information a truth value. Where Heidegger claimed that Gerede (idle talk) is based on "groundlessness" and "indifferent intelligibility," this essay shows that rumors in Murnau's films are often well-founded and also essential to a nuanced understanding of his work. Bringing together film analyses, archival materials, and philosophical texts, the essay sheds light on an underexamined aspect of Murnau's oeuvre and addresses broader questions about the status of speculative, uncertain, or contested knowledge. A study of Gerede does not entail a concealment of authentic discourse but illuminates Murnau's philosophy of rumors as part of a dialectic of destabilized knowledge. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper we extend the Multidimensional Byzantine Agreement (MBA) Protocol, a leaderless Byzantine agreement for lists of arbitrary values, into a protocol suitable for wide gossiping networks: Cob. This generalization allows the consensus process to be run by an incomplete network of nodes provided with (non-synchronized) same-speed clocks. Not all nodes are active in every step, so the network size does not hamper the efficiency, as long as the gossiping broadcast delivers the messages to every node in reasonable time. These network assumptions model more closely real-life communication channels, so Cob may be applicable to a variety of practical problems, such as blockchain platforms implementing sharding. Cob has the same Bernoulli-like distribution that upper-bounds the number of steps as the MBA protocol. We prove its correctness and security assuming a supermajority of honest nodes in the network, and compare its performance with Algorand. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Whereas substantial research portrays gossip as a detrimental behavior, other work observes that gossip performs essential social functions, such as distributing valuable information. Collectively, the literature indicates that gossip has the potential to harm and benefit the relationship between the gossip sender and receiver. Our study brings consensus to this conversation by drawing a distinction between how much gossiping occurs--gossiping extent--and characteristics of that gossip--gossip truthfulness and gossip interestingness. Drawing on social exchange theory and cognitivemotivational-relational theory, we build a within-person theoretical model that proposes gossip truthfulness will strengthen the receiver's perception of the social exchange relationship, whereas gossip interestingness will increase the receiver's state happiness. Ultimately, these proximal reactions will increase the receiver's helping behavior toward the sender. We tested our modelwith a 15-day experience sampling study (Study 1) and an experiment (Study 2). Results showed that gossip truthfulness had a positive effect on the receiver's perception of the social exchange relationship, leading the receiver to provide more helping behavior to the sender. Gossip interestingness had a positive effect on the receiver's state happiness, leading to increased helping behavior toward the sender. Gossip interestingness also had a serial indirect effect on helping behavior, via increased state happiness that increased receiver social exchange perceptions. In contrast, gossiping extent had a negative indirect effect on helping behavior via decreased receiver happiness, as well as a negative serial indirect effect via decreased receiver happiness and social exchange perceptions. Although negative gossip is ubiquitous in the workplace, we know little about how negatively gossiping about the supervisor--who occupies a higher hierarchical position in the organization--influences gossipers themselves. To address this question, we draw on the conservation of resources theory to account for the resource-consuming and resource-generating impact of negative gossip about the supervisor on gossipers' work engagement. Findings from three experience sampling studies show that negative gossip about the supervisor is a double-edged sword for gossipers that seems to do more harm than good to their work engagement. On the one hand, spreading negative gossip about the supervisor evokes the resource-consuming mechanism of image maintenance concerns, which impairs gossipers' work engagement, especially when perceived organizational politics is higher. On the other hand, engaging in such gossip elicits the resource-generating mechanism of sense of power, which only improves work engagement in Study 3 but not in Studies 1 and 2; contrary to our expectation, this effect is unaffected by perceived organizational politics. Abstract: Introduction: According to one prominent theoretical model of gossip, we gossip for four key reasons: to keep track of our social networks, to strengthen bonds with others, to manage our reputation, and to entertain ourselves (Foster, 2004). Foster (2004) has also provided the Gossip Functions Questionnaire (GFQ) reflecting these four theoretical functions. Yet, this model has not been empirically derived. Method and Results: Using a large nationally representative sample we show that this survey captures the two main functions of gossip: (1) Normative Function, and (2) Relationship Function. Finally, we modified the GFQ to capture the two main functions of gossip: the 11-item Revised GFQ. Current findings open many avenues of research for social, organizational, and developmental psychologists who are interested in how and when gossip comes about, and how it affects individuals, groups, and organizations.

Low-credibility gossip information in social networks is a trigger for online opinion distortion. Since fragmented information always appears along with low content credibility and gossip, this paper put forward an online opinion distortion model based on DW algorithm, and information credibility, gossip intensity and opinion leaders were integrated in order to find out the mainly factors which induce opinion distortion. Then, four groups of experiment by using MATLAB were conducted, and the results show that the credibility of information is a key factor affects the speed of opinion, and also very important for the direction of the opinion dynamic of the whole network. Online opinions can easily impact by the gossip information, and extreme gossip information causes serious division of opinion group, and the whole network opinions cannot be converged even in a quite long-time iteration. Super opinion leaders have the ability to balance the influence of gossip, even in an online environment full of gossip information. Based on these, a case study including 315 thousand records of posts and comments from Weibo is conducted for confirming the mainly findings in the simulation analysis, and strategies like high credibility information, low gossip probability, and behalf opinion leader are put forwarded finally for reduce opinion distortion. Social reputations facilitate cooperation: those who help others gain a good reputation, making them more likely to receive help themselves. But when people hold private views of one another, this cycle of indirect reciprocity breaks down, as disagreements lead to the perception of unjustified behavior that ultimately undermines cooperation. Theoretical studies often assume population-wide agreement about reputations, invoking rapid gossip as an endogenous mechanism for reaching consensus. However, the theory of indirect reciprocity lacks a mechanistic description of how gossip actually generates consensus. Here, we develop a mechanistic model of gossip-based indirect reciprocity that incorporates two alternative forms of gossip: exchanging information with randomly selected peers or consulting a single gossip source. We show that these two forms of gossip are mathematically equivalent under an appropriate transformation of parameters. We derive an analytical expression for the minimum amount of gossip required to reach sufficient consensus and stabilize cooperation. We analyze how the amount of gossip necessary for cooperation depends on the benefits and costs of cooperation, the assessment rule (social norm), and errors in reputation assessment, strategy execution, and gossip transmission. Finally, we show that biased gossip can either facilitate or hinder cooperation, depending on the direction and magnitude of the bias. Our results contribute to the growing literature on cooperation facilitated by communication, and they highlight the need to study strategic interactions coupled with the spread of social information. Alexithymia is the inability to express and recognise emotions and can be expressed in non-clinical populations. Alexithymia is typically experienced alongside depression, anxiety, and burnout. However, research in this area has not explored the extent to which alexithymia is experienced in Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic group. Access to treatment for this community are limited. The aim of the current research is to explore high vs. low scores of alexithymia on anxiety, depression, life satisfaction among British black and ethnic minority communities. A total of 94 participants had filled in questionnaires. Results indicated high levels of alexithymia resulted in increased anxiety, thus a decreased in life satisfaction. However the hypothesis of high alexithymia resulted in high depressive symptoms were not found. Additionally, there were no gender difference in alexithymia level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We study concentration inequalities in gossip opinion dynamics over random graphs. In the model, a network is generated from a random graph model with independent edges, and agents interact pairwise randomly over the network. During the process, regular agents average neighbors' opinions and then update, whereas stubborn agents do not change opinions. To approximate the original process, we introduce a gossip model over an expected graph, obtained by averaging all possible networks generated from the random graph model. Using concentration inequalities, we derive high-probability bounds for the distance between the expected final opinion vectors over the random graph and over the expected graph. Leveraging matrix perturbation results, we show how such concentration can help study the effect of network structure on the expected final opinions in two cases: (i) When the influence of stubborn agents is large, the expected final opinions polarize and are close to stubborn agents' opinions. (ii) When the influence of stubborn agents is small, the expected final opinions are close to each other. With the help of concentration inequalities for Markov chains, we obtain high-probability bounds for the distance between time-averaged opinions and the expected final opinions over the expected graph. Conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) is an increasingly consequential crime to perpetrate – at least if we limit our view to reactions within multilateral institutions such as the United Nations (UN) Security Council. Turning to the state-led forum for human rights: the UN Universal Periodic Review (UPR), this study instead uncovers sparse and highly selective condemnation of CRSV. By extracting data on all bilateral shaming relating to sexual violence in the UPR since its inception in 2008, this article demonstrates that only 5% of all governments take the opportunity to condemn major sexual aggressors. The findings should adjust our expectations on the progress rate within the policy field of CRSV and advance our understanding of the challenges tainting international negotiations on the topic. Aim: This article aims to determine the extent of "personalization" and "de‐institutionalization" within the Conservative Party in Britain during the period 1940–1945 when the Party was under the leadership of Winston Churchill. Materials and methods: The article examines the different dimensions of "personalization" and "de‐institutionalization" as defined by Harmel, Svåsand, and Mjelde in this special edition. To do so, it uses a variety of sources including: internal party records, memoirs and biographies, contemporaneous diaries, letters to party leaders, and survey research undertaken by the organization Mass Observation. Results: The article identified that a limited degree of personalization took place during the period. This was largely in relation to the movement away from existing internal policy and procedures, especially those to do with electioneering. Evidence regarding other dimensions was mixed with a notable lack of change in the perceptions other parties and their leaders held about the Conservative Party. Conclusion: The article suggests that the personalization that occurred within the Party was largely a product of necessity, notably the unpopularity of the Conservative "brand" during World War II, compared to Churchill's own personal popularity, as well as the disruptions caused by the war itself. The article argues that this was enabled, to an extent, by the already high degree of latitude that the Conservative Party afforded its leaders. At the same time, the article notes the way in which defeat at the 1945 general election led to the Conservative Party "snapping back" to its pre‐war highly institutionalized form. Purpose: People are more likely to participate in work-related events that might cause positive and negative affective reactions. Prior research linked coworker friendship with incivility; however, few studies investigated negative workplace gossip. Simultaneously, linking coworker friendship with incivility through positive/negative affective responses is lacking. As such, this paper aims to examine this relationship via the dual mediation effect of positive and negative workplace gossip. Design/methodology/approach: A total of 398 subordinates at family restaurants in Greater Cairo were surveyed, and data was analyzed using SmartPLS4. Findings: Coworker friendship significantly influences coworker incivility via positive and negative workplace gossip and other underlying mechanisms. Research limitations/implications: Managers should take the initiative to decrease gossip by sharing information promptly and thoroughly and establishing effective channels for information exchange. In the case of an informal plan, restaurant managers may seek to create a welcoming and motivating corporate atmosphere and cultivate social ties among subordinates to prevent the creation of negative gossip. Restaurant managers should give victims of negative gossip timely psychological counseling. Abstract: Three studies examined whether people feel better when self-excluding from group conversations about negative, rather than positive, information and whether people feel worse when included in group conversations about negative, rather than positive, information. Participants (N = 665) completed a retrospective recall (Study 1) and imagined scenarios (Studies 2 and 3). Participants generally reported feeling worse when they were included in groups discussing negative, rather than positive, information. They also reported feeling better when they self-excluded from groups discussing negative, rather than positive, information, particularly negative gossip. Negative gossip also led participants to have a high desire to self-exclude from the group, and this was mediated by mood. Online hate speech has significantly increased, particularly on social media, as a result of the internet's democratization of communication. This is an excellent illustration of how technology has both benefits and drawbacks. The investigation seeks to discover abusive comments on Indonesian social media. The goal of this study is to use a forensic linguistics approach to look at abusive comments on Indonesian social media (Instagram) that could lead to legal offenses. This study employs descriptive qualitative research methods. The study used the speech act theory of Austin (1962) and Searle (1969). The utterances are examined and evaluated within the context of Indonesian legal regulations. The data was obtained from @lambe_turah account (2022). The analysis's findings show that hate speech expresses negative attitudes. This can be seen in acts of insults (expressive speech). Based on the research's findings, it can be concluded that abusive comments are implicit in nature and contain implied meanings. Furthermore, there was a criminal act committed in the comments shared on Indonesian social media platforms, which involved the intentional expression of animosity towards a specific individual or group. This statement has the potential to spark communal anger and frustration because it is presented publicly and can be viewed by a large number of people. The exhaustive analysis contributes to a deeper comprehension of the potential legal implications of hate speech on social media. This research aims to examine the influence of brand image, brand trust and word of mouth on product purchasing decisions. The population in this study is users of Garnier facial foam products in South Tangerang City and aged 17 years and over. The technique used for sample collection is the Side Purposive sampling technique, thus the sample used isin this study is 140. This research uses SmartPLS. The results of this study showed that brand image, brand trust and word of mouth has a significant positive effect on the purchase decision of Garnier facial foam products in South Tangerang City. The results of this research provide benefits for Garnier to improve its existing brand image to increase product sales and maintain environmental damage with a green beauty strategy. Negative gossip is prevalent in schools, yet there is limited research on the relationship between negative school gossip and prosocial behavior, as well as the underlying mechanisms. The present study examined the moderated mediation model to validate the mediating role of basic psychological needs satisfaction and the moderating effect of self-compassion in this relationship. A total of 854 Chinese high school students (Mage=16.89, SD = 1.07) were asked to complete a questionnaire consisting of a negative school gossip scale, a prosocial behavior measure, a basic psychological needs scale, and a self-compassion Scale. The PROCESS macro in SPSS was applied to examine the moderated mediation model. The results showed that, first, negative school gossip negatively predicted prosocial behavior among high school students. Second, basic psychological needs satisfaction mediated the link between negative school gossip and prosocial behavior. Third, self-compassion moderated the indirect link between negative school gossip and prosocial behavior. Self-compassion buffered the effect of negative school gossip on basic psychological needs satisfaction but enhanced basic psychological needs satisfaction on prosocial behavior. The study examined the negative predicting effect of negative school gossip on prosocial behavior among Chinese high school students. These results highlight the importance for educators to focus on the adverse effects of negative gossip on prosocial behavior among adolescents in school. Episodic memory gives us the ability to mentally travel back in time to revisit and relive past experiences. In recent years, there has been an increased interest in the function of episodic memory. According to the orthodox view, episodic memory should be considered a part of a constructive system that simulates the future for sophisticated foresight and flexible planning. In this paper, I offer a novel alternative view. I argue that episodic memory provides invaluable information about the past behavior of others, allowing us to identify reliable and trustworthy partners while avoiding dealing with cheaters. Theoretical models demonstrate that cooperation in groups can be maintained if potential partners use information about an individual’s past behavior to guide their behavior toward that individual. In these reputation-based models of human cooperation, individuals with a history of cheating are ostracized, whereas those with a history of cooperative behavior flourish. Against this theoretical background, it is possible to see a function of episodic memory in facilitating information exchange about others, helping group members make effective partner choices, and avoiding the risk of interacting with cheaters. Employee proactivity has been shown to play an important role in contemporary organizations. In the present study, we intended to understand the predictors of employees' proactive work design behaviors, such as task i-deals and job crafting, based on the symbolic interactionist perspective on identity. Specifically, we investigated the effects of leader humor on employees' task i-deals and job crafting behaviors through the mediating mechanism of authentic self-expression and the moderating role of receiving negative workplace gossip from an identity perspective. The four-wave data were collected from a sample of 320 employees to test the hypotheses. The results confirmed that leader humor as a form of positive social interaction promoted employees' proactive behaviors by influencing the levels of authentic self-expression. Negative workplace gossip is a kind of cold violence in the workplace which seriously affects employees' work and life. Existing studies have shown that the effect of negative workplace gossip on workplace prosocial behavior lacks theoretical and empirical evidence. The mechanism of negative workplace gossip on workplace prosocial behavior is unclear. Based on the theory of psychological ownership, this study constructed a model of the relationship between negative workplace gossip, perceived collective psychological ownership and workplace prosocial behavior at different levels of social efficacy. We conducted research at several companies in China. At time 1, we measured negative workplace gossip, social efficacy and demographic information; At time 2, a week later, we measured employees' perceived collective psychological ownership. At time 3, another week passed, we measured workplace prosocial behavior. Finally, we collected 363 valid questionnaires. The empirical results show that: (1) Negative workplace gossip has a significant negative impact on workplace prosocial behavior. (2) Perceived collective psychological ownership mediates between negative workplace gossip and workplace prosocial behavior. (3) Social efficacy moderates the negative relationship between negative workplace gossip and perceived collective psychological ownership. The research results of this paper provide a theoretical basis for the impact of negative workplace gossip on workplace prosocial behavior and provide a practical reference for organizations to deal with negative workplace gossip. The proliferation of information technologies has revolutionized how people around the world consume news. By 2021, an estimated 8.6 billion mobile subscriptions existed worldwide. In the United States, a majority (84%) of Americans access their news digitally. On social media platforms, Facebook is the most used network for obtaining news. The three major news sources in the United States, CNN, Fox News, and MSNC, have a strong presence on Facebook. The current study analyzes public comments posted on Facebook involving the deadly police shootings of four Black men (i.e., Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, Jonathan Price, Rayshard Brooks) to identify reactions at two points in time. Our work centers on public comments to these posts, not the posts themselves. Using a summative qualitative analysis, we analyzed the first 20 Facebook comments from CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC that are listed as most relevant (e.g., highest number of likes, reactions, replies) to the most recently posted news story regarding the incident. This resulted in a sample size of 223 posts. Public comments were categorized as justifying the killing, perceiving the killing as not justified, or expressing neutrality as to whether the killing was justified or not. We found that most comments, regardless of time period, did not engage in victim-blaming. Overall, the majority (N = 139 or 62%) of all comments perceived these deadly police shootings as not justified. Most (54%) posts on Fox News justified this violence, while the majority of posts on CNN or MSNBC felt the police had used excessive violence. There were more negative comments of Black men and victim-blaming after the Trump presidency (in 2020) than in 2016 (before Trump took office), which may be related to the racial rhetoric of the times.
