Introduction Alveolar osteitis is the most common postoperative complication of tooth extraction. This medical condition has been recognized for decades, however its treatment approach is diverse with varying outcome. Aim of the study The purpose of this review is to examine and discuss contemporary methods of treating dry socket. Through a synthesis of available studies, the paper aims to identify the most beneficial methods to deal with this post-extraction complication. Materials and methods An analysis of scientific articles available in Pubmed and Google Scholar databases was conducted. The study used publications from 2017 to 2024. The search process included the use of the following keywords: “dry socket”, “alveolar osteitis”, “alveolitis sicca dolorosa”, “socket pain treatment”. Results Thirty-five articles were selected and reviewed carefully and independently by all authors. The agents used in the treatment of dry socket were classified as: remedies, drugs and medications, blood products, and technologies. Each group of agents is described with a discussion of their therapeutic efficacy. Summary Dry socket is a common dental problem. Currently, non-invasive methods of treating this complication are preferred. Modern solutions can provide quick and effective therapy. The treatment should relieve discomfort and promote tissue regeneration. Despite various methods, there is still no clear opinion on the best way to treat dry socket.

Introduction: Antiresorptive drugs such as bisphosphonates and denosumab are crucial for treating osteoporosis, metastatic bone disease, and hypercalcemia by inhibiting osteoclast function. They can lead to medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) following invasive dental procedures, requiring careful management to mitigate potential adverse effects. Purpose of work: Synthesis of knowledge about the impact of taking antiresorptive drugs on aspects of dental treatment. Materials and methods: Materials used in this study were found in the PubMed and Google Scholar database, using the following key words “antiresorptives”, “bisphosphonates”, “dental treatment”, “osteonecrosis of the jaw” Summary: Antiresorptive drugs like bisphosphonates and denosumab are essential for managing osteoporosis and other bone diseases but pose challenges in dental care, notably with risks such as medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). These medications influence treatment strategies across orthodontics, implantology, periodontal therapy, and endodontics, necessitating careful management to balance therapeutic benefits with potential dental complications.

Aim of the study Toothpaste is a paste or gel to be used with a toothbrush to maintain and improve oral health and aesthetics. Nowadays there is a great variety of ingredients that might have different effects on caries development or oral health in general. Society continues to seek ways to replace fluoride or include more natural ingredients in everyday hygiene products. The aim of our study is to present current knowledge of various ingredients in toothpastes regarding their influence on teeth and intraoral soft tissues and the possibility of replacing fluoride with other substances. Material and methods Our review is based on the analysis of materials collected in„Pubmed”, „Google Scholar” and other scientific articles using keywords: „toothpaste”, „fluoride”, „ingredients”, “hydroxyapatite”, „chlorhexidine”, “triclosan”, “propolis”, “aloe vera”, “charcoal”, “oleanolic acid”, “SLS”, “xylitol” Conclusions Despite numerous studies, there is space for further research in finding substances that might improve toothpastes with or without extracting fluoride from them. Fluoride has the most proven effectiveness in caries prevention, with fluorosis as its most damaging side effect, while hydroxyapatite shows promising results. Although, there are many substances that might be useful in oral health care products.

Manufacturers of e-cigarettes advertise them as a less harmful option than traditional cigarettes, suggesting that their use can help reduce nicotine dependence and reduce the risk of smoking-related diseases. However, studies indicate that inhaling the chemicals in liquids can carry serious health consequences, particularly concerning the oral cavity Many of these preparations contain substances about whose effects we do not yet know enough, which raises concerns among public health professionals. The aim of this study was to provide an overview of e-cigarettes, including their popularity, the origins of their development, the substances they contain and the impact they have on oral health, which is most at risk from the harmful effects of e-cigarettes.

Introduction Mirror neurons are brain cells that engage when an individual performs an action and then observes another person completing the same action. These neurons are supposed to help us grasp others' emotions and intentions by mimicking their experiences. This has led to the theory that mirror neurons influence empathy, or the ability to share and understand the experiences of others. The article investigates the role of mirror neurons in empathy, specifically their potential contribution to emotional resonance, perspective-taking, their relevance in autism spectrum disorder and other clinical implications. Aim of the study The aim of this comprehensive review is to provide an overview of how mirror neurones contribute to the development and expression of empathy in humans, with a focus on their role in autism spectrum disorder. The objective of this research is to clarify the role of mirror neurons in social cognition and gain a better understanding of the neurological foundation for empathy. Materials and methods Scientific articles from the Pubmed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science databases were analysed. The goal of this study was to choose recent articles that most adequately encompassed the problems under consideration. The search was conducted out using the following keylords: mirror neurones, empathy and autism spectrum disorder. Summary Mirror neurones appear to play an important part in empathy, as evidenced by neural activity patterns during emotion identification. While they are not the single source of empathy or the only trigger, they are definitely present. Conflicting evidence limits our understanding of their exact impact, and more credible studies need to be conducted. However, current research reveals that mirror neurones have a measurable, although limited, impact on empathy.

Botulinum toxin has found great interest in the field of aesthetic medicine, but it has many other applications in other areas of medicine. Aim of the study The aim of this comprehensive review is to provide an overview of the usage of botulinum toxin in medicine, with a focus on specific areas of medicine. Attention will be paid to the safety of the use of this substance, taking into account its molecular structure and mechanism of action. Materials and methods An analysis of the scientific articles available in the Pubmed, Google Scholar and web of science databases was performed. Recent publications which most appropriately encompassed the issues under discussion have been selected for the purpose of this study. The process of search was carried out with the following keywords: neurotoxin, botulinum toxins, botulism, muscle paralysis. Summary Despite numerous studies, there is ample room for further research into the safety of using botulinum toxin in patients as well as new therapies with this substance. Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin that is widely used in medicine, but has many side effects.

Introduction Bruxism is a parafunction characterized by excessive chewing muscle activity involving grinding or clenching of the teeth. Bruxism has become a significant challenge in the field of pediatric dentistry. Aim of the study The aim of this comprehensive review is to provide an overview of bruxism in children, focusing on etiology, symptoms, diagnosis, and current treatment options. To draw attention to the prevalence of the disorder and to raise awareness of the importance of early recognition and intervention for bruxism in children. Materials and methods An analysis of scientific articles available in the PubMed and Google Scholar databases was conducted. Our research is supported by all relevant publications from recent years. The etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of bruxism in children were of particular interest in the study. This process involved the use of the following keywords: ‘bruxism’, ‘children’, ‘sleep bruxism’, ‘tooth wear’, ‘bruxism diagnosis’, ‘bruxism etiology’, ‘bruxism treatment’. Conclusions We evaluated 31 relevant publications. The results of the study indicate a variation in the prevalence of bruxism in children, oscillating between 13-49%. The etiology of this disorder is multidimensional and remains incompletely elucidated. The primary methods of diagnosing bruxism in younger patients include observation by parents or caregivers, a thorough health history and intraoral and extraoral dental examination. Physiotherapy and psychotherapy are recommended for the treatment of nocturnal bruxism in children. Prompt recognition of the disorder and implementation of appropriate therapy can help to halt the progression of motor dysfunction of the masticatory apparatus in children.

The treatment of skin trauma, especially facial skin trauma, is a major challenge due to its complex structure, the presence of appendages, color, texture, and the large area to be reconstructed in extensive trauma. “The gold standard” for treating trauma is autologous intermediate thickness skin grafting. An alternative solution is the usage of bioengineered skin substitutes. Tissue engineering is intended to provide patients with better treatment options and more effective pain reduction. Unique skin lesions are those related to the face. To fulfill the need to improve the results of facial skin reconstruction, the “Biomask” concept was introduced for the treatment of facial wounds. The purpose of this review is to analyze composite dermal-epidermal substitutes already on the market for clinical use, as well as briefly discussing materials in the testing phase, focusing on 3D skin bioprinting and facial trauma regeneration using “BioMask”. PubMed and Google Scholar databases were searched for relevant sources. Search terms included “skin substitutes”, “synthetic skin substitutes”, “bioengineered skin”, “composite skin substitutes” and additionally each analyzed unit of composite skin substitutes was searched. Bioengineered skin substitutes effectively fulfill the role of dressings during the reconstruction of skin injuries. The development of 3D skin bioprinting is enabling the increasing and effective use of these materials. The high requirements in the treatment of facial skin injuries are the trigger for the development of new materials such as "BioMask". The synergy of new technologies makes it possible to create improved methods of wound dressing and reconstruction of skin defects.

INTRODUCTION: Vitamin D plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health, with increasing clinical interest in its impact on oral health. This review explores the significance of Vitamin D in dentistry, focusing on its effects on dental caries, periodontal disease, malocclusion, and temporomandibular disorders (TMD). Additionally, it identifies risk groups for Vitamin D deficiency and outlines current supplementation guidelines. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE STATE OF KNOWLEDGE: Vitamin D3, synthesized in the skin or obtained through diet, regulates calcium and phosphate metabolism essential for bone, enamel, and dentin mineralization. Maintaining serum 25(OH)D concentrations of at least 30 ng/ml is recommended for optimal health benefits. Vitamin D's immunomodulatory properties impact oral health by reducing inflammation and enhancing antimicrobial defenses. It plays a role in preventing dental caries, managing periodontal disease, influencing craniofacial development, and potentially affecting TMD. Risk groups for Vitamin D deficiency include the elderly, individuals with darker skin, those living in northern latitudes, and people with certain medical conditions or on specific medications. SUMMARY: Adequate Vitamin D levels, achieved through diet, supplementation, and sun exposure, can significantly contribute to oral health and overall well-being. Increasing awareness of Vitamin D's importance, especially among at-risk groups, is crucial for maintaining optimal oral health.

Introdution: Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract, characterized by the cyclical onset and resolution of symptoms. It is a progressive disease that leads to intestinal damage and even disability. This disease can occur in any segment of the digestive system, from the mouth to the anus. The typical symptom is segmental inflammation in the small or large intestine, which is separated by healthy sections. The inflammation usually starts in the mucosa but, over time, spreads to the entire thickness of the intestinal wall, which can lead to intestinal damage, scarring, and the subsequent formation of fistulas and strictures. Inflammatory lesions most often occur in the last segment of the ileum, followed in order by the small and large intestines and the large intestine itself. Aim of the study: The purpose of this paper is to provide a general overview of Crohn's disease, focusing on oral symptoms. Materials and methods: An analysis of scientific articles available in Pubmed and Google Scholar databases was conducted. The study used publications from recent years that were most pertinent to the topic under discussion. The search process consisted of using the following keywords: “crohn's disease”, “oral manifestations”, “oral healh”, “Crohn's disease symptoms”. Results: In addition to the classic intestinal symptomatology, Crohn's disease can also manifest in the oral cavity. Symptoms that appear in the oral cavity may be early harbingers of Crohn's disease, occur concurrently with its onset, or manifest themselves several years after the onset of the condition. They most commonly involve the lips, buccal mucosa and gums. According to Malins and colleagues, these lesions can be divided into specific and non-specific ones. Conclusions: Crohn’s disease diagnoses are increasing, and early awareness of symptoms is crucial for timely diagnosis and prevention of complications.
