Introduction: Wearable exoskeletons are emerging technologies for providing movement assistance and rehabilitation for people with motor disorders. In this study, we focus on the specific gait pathology dropfoot, which is common after a stroke. Dropfoot makes it difficult to achieve foot clearance during swing and heel contact at early stance and often necessitates compensatory movements. Methods: We developed a soft ankle exoskeleton consisting of actuation and transmission systems to assist two degrees of freedom simultaneously: dorsiflexion and eversion, then performed several proof-of-concept experiments on non-disabled persons. The actuation system consists of two motors worn on a waist belt. The transmission system provides assistive force to the medial and lateral sides of the forefoot via Bowden cables. The coupling design enables variable assistance of dorsiflexion and inversion at the same time, and a force-free controller is proposed to compensate for device resistance. We first evaluated the performance of the exoskeleton in three seated movement tests: assisting dorsiflexion and eversion, controlling plantarflexion, and compensating for device resistance, then during walking tests. In all proof-of-concept experiments, dropfoot tendency was simulated by fastening a weight to the shoe over the lateral forefoot. Results: In the first two seated tests, errors between the target and the achieved ankle joint angles in two planes were low; errors of <1.5° were achieved in assisting dorsiflexion and/or controlling plantarflexion and of <1.4° in assisting ankle eversion. The force-free controller in test three significantly compensated for the device resistance during ankle joint plantarflexion. In the gait tests, the exoskeleton was able to normalize ankle joint and foot segment kinematics, specifically foot inclination angle and ankle inversion angle at initial contact and ankle angle and clearance height during swing. Discussion: Our findings support the feasibility of the new ankle exoskeleton design in assisting two degrees of freedomat the ankle simultaneously and show its potential to assist people with dropfoot and excessive inversion. Impairments in unilateral ankle propulsion may result from restriction by an external device or pathology such as lower limb amputation. Models of gait suggest this reduction may lead to increased collisional force on the contralateral side, potentially increasing force through the knee and increasing the risk of knee pain or osteoarthritis. How do restrictions in unilateral ankle propulsive force affect contralateral knee joint loading in otherwise healthy individuals? 18 individuals without impairment walked on a treadmill at 1.5 m/s for two conditions: one free of restrictions, and one where a randomized limb's ankle propulsive force was restricted using an off-the-shelf ankle-foot orthosis (AFO). Ankle propulsive power, lower extremity joint work, and ground reaction force variables were calculated for the final 3 gait cycles of each condition. Tibiofemoral joint contact force (TJCF) for the limb contralateral to the AFO was calculated through a standard OpenSim workflow utilizing the gait2392 model. Intra-limb pair-wise comparisons were made between conditions. Compared to walking unrestricted, the limb wearing the AFO demonstrated a significant reduction in peak ankle propulsive power and positive ankle work by approximately 50 % each (p<0.01). With ankle restriction, the ipsilateral knee significantly increased positive work (p<0.01). The overall propulsion produced by that limb did not change between conditions, demonstrated by a lack of change in anterior ground reaction force impulse (p=0.11). The knee of the limb contralateral to the AFO did not display differences in any TJCF variable between conditions (all p>0.07). These results suggest a unilateral deficit in ankle propulsion will not increase contralateral knee joint forces in individuals who are able to use other joints of the limb to compensate for the loss of ankle function. Traumatic and postoperative hemorrhages are life-threatening complications. Ankaferd BloodStopper (ABS) is a potent topical hemostatic agent to stop bleeding. However, ABS is associated with nerve toxicity. The present study aimed to investigate the functional and structural neurodegenerative effects of ABS in a mouse model. A total of 30 male BALB/c mice, aged 6-8 weeks, were randomly divided into control group (no treatment), a sham group (treated with saline) and an experimental group (treated with ABS). In the saline and the ABS groups, the right sciatic nerve was surgically exposed and treated with saline or ABS, respectively. No surgical procedure was performed in the control group. On day 7 post-treatment, functional changes of the sciatic nerve were evaluated by a horizontal ladder rung walking task. Structural changes were assessed with immunohistochemistry. In the horizontal ladder rung walking test, the gait impairment was proportional to the severity of sciatic nerve damage, with the ABS group showing a significantly higher rate of errors than the control and saline groups. Immunohistochemistry demonstrated extensive degeneration and deformation in the axons and myelin sheath of the sciatic nerve in the ABS group. (1) Background: This study evaluates the effectiveness of low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (LF-rTMS) in improving gait in post-stroke hemiplegic patients, using wearable sensor technology for objective gait analysis. (2) Methods: A total of 72 stroke patients were randomized into control, sham stimulation, and LF-rTMS groups, with all receiving standard medical treatment. The LF-rTMS group underwent stimulation on the unaffected hemisphere for 6 weeks. Key metrics including the Fugl-Meyer Assessment Lower Extremity (FMA-LE), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Modified Barthel Index (MBI), and gait parameters were measured before and after treatment. (3) Results: The LF-rTMS group showed significant improvements in the FMA-LE, BBS, MBI, and various gait parameters compared to the control and sham groups (p < 0.05). Specifically, the FMA-LE scores improved by an average of 5 points (from 15 ± 3 to 20 ± 2), the BBS scores increased by 8 points (from 35 ± 5 to 43 ± 4), the MBI scores rose by 10 points (from 50 ± 8 to 60 ± 7), and notable enhancements in gait parameters were observed: the gait cycle time was reduced from 2.05 ± 0.51 s to 1.02 ± 0.11 s, the stride length increased from 0.56 ± 0.04 m to 0.97 ± 0.08 m, and the walking speed improved from 35.95 ± 7.14 cm/s to 75.03 ± 11.36 cm/s (all p < 0.001). No adverse events were reported. The control and sham groups exhibited improvements but were not as significant. Blood flow restriction (BFR) training can temporarily reduce cortical GABA concentrations and increase the size of motor volleys to deafferented muscles, which can promote motor recovery in stroke survivors. To determine the effect of low-intensity resistance training with BFR (LIRT-BFR) on lower extremity muscle strength, balance, functional mobility, walking capacity, gait speed, anxiety, and depression in stroke survivors and to compare the results with high-intensity resistance training (HIRT). It was a two-arm, single-blinded, randomized controlled trial in which 32 ischemic stroke participants were randomly allocated to LIRT-BFR or HIRT group. The LIRT-BFR group received low load resistance training (40% of 1-Repetition Maximum (1-RM)) with BFR, whereas HIRT group received high load resistance training (80% of 1-RM). The 6-Minute Walk Test (6-MWT), five-time sit-to-stand test (5TSTST), Timed Up and Go (TUG) test, and Barthel index were the primary outcome measures. The secondary outcome measures included gait speed (m/s), stride length (cm), cadence (steps/min), and Hospital Anxiety and Depression. All the primary and secondary outcome measures were significantly improved in both groups (p < 0.05). The LIRT-BFR group showed a slightly greater, but non-significant, improvement as compared to the HIRT group in terms of mean change observed in 6-MWT (81 m vs 62 m), 5TSTST (−5.27 vs −4.81), gait speed (0.19 vs 0.12), stride length (18 vs 13), and cadence (8 vs 6). BackgroundThe SCI-GDI is an accurate and effective metric to summarize gait kinematics in adults with SCI. It is usually computed with the information registered with a photogrammetry system because it requires accurate information of pelvic and hip movement in the three anatomic planes, which is hard to record with simpler systems. Additionally, due to being developed from the GDI, the SCI-GDI is built upon nine joint movements selected for a pediatric population with cerebral palsy, for which the GDI was originally developed, but those nine movements are not necessarily as meaningful for adults with SCI. Nevertheless, pelvic movement and hip rotation have been proven to have low reliability even when acquired with gold-standard photogrammetry systems. Additionally, the use of photogrammetry is limited in real-life scenarios and when used with rehabilitation technologies, which limits the use of the SCI-GDI to evaluate gait in alternative scenarios to gait laboratories and to evaluate technologies for gait assistance. This research aimed to improve the SCI-GDI to broaden its applicability beyond the use of photogrammetry.MethodsAn exploration of the mathematical relevance of each joint movement included in the original GDI for the performance of the metric is performed. Considering the results obtained and the clinical relevance of each of the 9 joints used to compute the SCI-GDI in the gait pattern of the SCI population, a more adaptable SCI-GDI is proposed using four joint movements that can be precisely captured with simpler systems than photogrammetry: sagittal planes of hip, knee and ankle and hip abduction/adduction.ResultsThe reduced SCI-GDI (rSCI-GDI) effectively represents gait variability of adults with SCI as does the SCI-GDI, while providing more generalizable results and equivalent or stronger correlations with clinical tests validated in the population. During the derivation of the improved index, it was demonstrated that pelvic movements, hip rotation, and foot progression angle introduce high variability to the dataset of gait patterns of the adult population with SCI, but they have low relevance to characterize gait kinematics of this population. The rSCI-GDI can be calculated using the 14-feature vectorial basis included in the electronic addendum provided.

Introduction: A self-paced (SP) heart rate (HR) control system proposed in a previous study was found to be feasible for healthy participants. The aims of this work were to investigate whether the SP HR control system is feasible to achieve accurate HR control in a participant with gait impairments, and to assess its interaction with an existing motor-driven body weight support (BWS) system. Methods: One participant with cerebral palsy was recruited in this case study. Three preliminary tests were completed to determine the appropriate mean value and amplitude of the target heart rate curve, and to identify a customised heart rate response model. Two series of formal self-paced heart rate control tests were then conducted to investigate the influence of different heart rate compensators and the presence of the BWS system. Results: The customised heart rate controller achieved improved accuracy in heart rate control and reduced oscillation in the treadmill target speed: the rootmean- square heart rate tracking error (RMSE) was 2.38 beats per minute (bpm) vs. 3.91 bpm (customised controller vs. nominal controller), and the average power of changes in the treadmill target speed was 0.4 X 10-4m²/s2 vs. 8.4 x 10-4m²/s². The BWS system resulted in improved HR tracking accuracy: RMSE on heart rate tracking was 3.02 bpm vs. 3.50 bpm (with BWS vs. without BWS). The BWS system had no influence on the automatic position control accuracy: RMSE on distance tracking was 0.0159m vs. 0.0164 m. Conclusion: After customising the heart rate compensator, the self-paced heart rate control system is feasible to achieve accurate heart rate control in an individual with gait impairments, and it can correctly interact with the BWS system. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an effective surgical therapy for carefully selected patients with medication refractory essential tremor (ET). The most popular anatomical targets for ET DBS are the ventral intermedius nucleus (VIM) of the thalamus, the caudal zona incerta (cZI) and the posterior subthalamic area (PSA). Despite extensive knowledge in DBS programming for tremor suppression, it is not uncommon to experience stimulation induced side effects related to DBS therapy. Dysarthria, dysphagia, ataxia, and gait impairment are common stimulation induced side effects from modulation of brain tissue that surround the target of interest. In this review, we explore current evidence about the etiology of stimulation induced side effects in ET DBS and provide several evidence-based strategies to troubleshoot, reprogram and retain tremor suppression. Abstract Background Gait impairment is common in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients, which greatly reduces their quality of life. Executive dysfunction is associated with gait impairment. Compensatory strategies, including visual cues, have been shown to be effective in improving PD gait. In this study, we aimed to understand whether carpets with visual cues could improve PD gait, and how the improvement varies across patients with different executive function state. Methods We designed carpets with chessboard and stripe cues. A total of 65 Chinese PD patients were recruited. Movement Disorder Society Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale, L-dopa equivalent daily dosage, Hoehn & Yahr stage, Frontal Assessment Battery, Mini Mental State Examination Scale, Hamilton Anxiety Scale, and Hamilton Depression Scale were evaluated. Gait parameters including stride length, gait speed and fall risk were recorded by a wearable electronic device. Results The stride length and gait speed were significantly improved and the fall risk was significantly mitigated when PD patients walked on carpets with chessboard and stripe patterns. Further analysis showed the amelioration of gait parameters was independent of executive dysfunction. Conclusions Our study demonstrates that carpets with visual cues can improve the gait of PD patients even in those with mild executive dysfunction.

Background: Freezing of gait (FOG), is associated with impairment of different cognitive functions. Previous studies hypothesized that FOG may be due to a loss of automaticity. Research question: To explore whether FOG is associated with impairment in cognitive functions, focusing on retrograde procedural memory, the memory responsible for the automatic, implicit stored procedures that have been acquired in earlier life stages. Methods: In this cross-sectional, case--control study, 288 people with typical Parkinson's disease (PD) from the Luxembourg Parkinson's Study were assigned to Freezers (FOG+) and non-Freezers (FOG-) based on the MDS-UPDRS 2.13 (self- reported FOG episodes) and 3.11 (FOG evaluated by clinicians during gait assessment). Both groups were matched on age, sex and disease duration. Global cognition (MoCA), retrograde procedural memory and visuo-constructive abilities (CUPRO), psychomotor speed and mental flexibility (TMT) were assessed. Furthermore, we repeated our analyses by additionally controlling for depression (BDI-I). Results: Besides lower global cognition (MoCA; p = 0.007) and mental flexibility (TMT-B and Delta-TMT; p < 0.001), FOG+ showed a lower performance in retrograde procedural memory (CUPRO-IS1; p < 0.001) compared to FOG-. After controlling additionally for depression, our main outcome variable CUPRO-IS1 remained significantly lower in FOG+ (p = 0.010). Conclusion: Our findings demonstrated that besides lower global cognition and mental flexibility scores, FOG+ showed lower performance in retrograde procedural memory compared to matched FOG-control patients, even when accounting for factors such as age, sex, disease duration or depression. Significance: In the context of limited treatment options, especially for non-invasive therapeutic approaches, these insights on procedural memory and FOG may lead to new hypotheses on FOG etiology and consequently the development of new treatment options. This review makes the case that idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) is an outdated term because new information indicates that the syndrome is less idiopathic and that the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure of normal individuals is affected by several factors such as body mass index, age, and sex. Our review updates the epidemiology of iNPH and provides a clinical approach to the management of these patients. All the clinical features of iNPH are common in older individuals, and each has many causes, so the diagnosis is difficult. The first step in reaching an accurate diagnosis is to address the possible contributory factors to the gait abnormality and determine what if any role iNPH may be playing. The two best diagnostic tests are neuroimaging and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) diversion (large volume lumbar puncture or external lumbar drainage) with pre/ post gait evaluation. This review provides an update on the growing evidence that vascular disease, impaired CSF absorption, congenital, and genetic factors all contribute to the pathogenesis of iNPH. We suggest replacing the term iNPH with the term Hakim syndrome (HS) in acknowledgement of the first person to describe this syndrome. Lastly, we discuss the improvements in shunt technology and surgical techniques that have decreased the risks and long-term complications of shunt surgery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background Gait impairment is a relevant problem in persons with multiple sclerosis (pwMS). The Multiple Sclerosis Walking Scale 12 (MSWS-12) is a valid Patient Reported Outcome Measure (PROM) to evaluate walking ability in pwMS. The aim of this study was to provide a linguistically valid translation of MSWS-12 into German language (MSWS-12/D) and to evaluate its psychometric properties. Methods The MSWS-12 was translated in a process modified from guidelines for the cross-cultural adaption of PROMs, and a pre-test was applied in a small sample of 20 pwMS to evaluate comprehensibility and acceptance. Psychometric properties (floor and ceiling effects, internal consistency, construct validity) were then assessed in 124 pwMS seen at academic MS centers. Construct validity was evaluated against Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) and maximum gait speed in the Timed 25-Foot Walk (T25FW). Results Although the sample covered a wide spectrum of symptom severity, the majority had rather low levels of disability (EDSS median 2.0) and 6.5% scored EDSS of 0. In this sample, MSWS-12/D showed floor effects (36% with score 0) and for internal consistency, a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.98 was calculated. MSWS-12/D score showed a relevant correlation to EDSS (ρ = 0.73) and T25FW speed (r=-0.72). Conclusion We provide MSWS-12/D as a linguistically valid German version of MSWS-12. Psychometric properties (acceptance, floor and ceiling effects, internal consistency and construct validity) in pwMS were similar to those described for the original version. This indicates that MSWS-12/D can be applied as equivalent to the original version in German speaking pwMS. Results support the relevance of PROMs to capture patient perception of walking ability in addition to performance-based assessments such as maximum walking speed or maximum walking distance.

Objective Advanced Parkinson's Disease (PD) is associated with Parkinson's Disease gait impairment (PDg), which increases the risk for falls and is often treatment-refractory. Subthalamic nucleus (STN) and globus pallidus pars interna (GPi) deep brain stimulation (DBS) often fails to improve axial symptoms like PDg. Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) has been suggested to improve PDg. SCS may benefit PDg by disrupting pathologic beta-oscillations and hypersynchrony in cortico-striatal-thalamic circuits to override excessive inhibition of brainstem locomotor regions. SCS may potentially improve locomotion by acting at any of these levels, either alone or in combination. Methods We conducted a comprehensive literature search and scoping review, identifying 106 patients in whom SCS was evaluated for PDg. Results Among the identified patients, 63% carried a pain diagnosis. Overall, the most common stimulation location was thoracic (78%), most commonly T9-T10. Burst (sub-perception) was the most common stimulation modality (59%). Prior treatment with DBS was used in 25%. Motor outcomes were assessed by the Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) III-motor, UPDRS, the Timed Up and Go (TUG), and/or 10-/20-meter walking tests. Among these patients, 95 (90%) had PDg amelioration and improved motor outcomes. Conclusions Despite small sample sizes, patient heterogeneity, and unblinded evaluations complicating interpretations of efficacy and safety, SCS may be beneficial for at least a subset of PDg. Mobility impairments are a common symptom of age-related degenerative diseases. Gait features can discriminate those with mobility disorders from healthy individuals, yet phenotyping specific pathologies remains challenging. This study aims to identify if gait parameters derived from two foot-mounted inertial measurement units (IMU) during the 6 min walk test (6MWT) can phenotype mobility impairment from different pathologies (Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS)—neurogenic diseases, and knee osteoarthritis (KOA)—structural joint disease). Bilateral foot-mounted IMU data during the 6MWT were collected from patients with LSS and KOA and matched healthy controls (N = 30, 10 for each group). Eleven gait parameters representing four domains (pace, rhythm, asymmetry, variability) were derived for each minute of the 6MWT. In the entire 6MWT, gait parameters in all four domains distinguished between controls and both disease groups; however, the disease groups demonstrated no statistical differences, with a trend toward higher stride length variability in the LSS group (p = 0.057). Additional minute-by-minute comparisons identified stride length variability as a statistically significant marker between disease groups during the middle portion of 6WMT (3rd min: p ≤ 0.05; 4th min: p = 0.06). These findings demonstrate that gait variability measures are a potential biomarker to phenotype mobility impairment from different pathologies. Increased gait variability indicates loss of gait rhythmicity, a common feature in neurologic impairment of locomotor control, thus reflecting the underlying mechanism for the gait impairment in LSS. Findings from this work also identify the middle portion of the 6MWT as a potential window to detect subtle gait differences between individuals with different origins of gait impairment. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by both motor and nonmotor symptoms. Although the basal ganglia is traditionally the primary brain region implicated in this disease process, this limited view ignores the roles of the cortex and cerebellum that are networked with the basal ganglia to support motor and cognitive functions. In particular, recent research has highlighted dysfunction in the supplementary motor complex (SMC) in patients with PD. Using the PubMed and Google Scholar search engines, we identified research articles using keywords pertaining to the involvement of the SMC in action sequencing impairments, temporal processing disturbances, and gait impairment in patients with PD. A review of abstracts and full-text articles was used to identify relevant articles. In this review of 63 articles, we focus on the role of the SMC in PD, highlighting anatomical and functional data to create new perspectives in understanding clinical symptoms and, potentially, new therapeutic targets. The SMC has a nuanced role in the pathophysiology of PD, with both hypo- and hyperactivation associated with various symptoms. Further studies using more standardized patient populations and functional tasks are needed to more clearly elucidate the role of this region in the pathophysiology and treatment of PD.

The proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) techniques such as contract-relax-antagonist-contract and contract-relax have been adopted by the researchers in the clinical area to investigate their efficacy on hemiplegic patient. This study investigated 4-week PNF exercise on the gait impaired hemiplegic participants measured with the Visual gait assessment scale-a 3 sectioned scale. Fourteen male and six female hemiplegic gait impaired participants (mean age 49.1 ± 7.8 years) were recruited into the study and treated for PNF protocol twice a day for 4 weeks. In the swing phase participants shows having decreased internal rotation (25%) and adduction (25%) and increased external rotation (47.5%) and abduction (42.5%) in hip and pelvis, normal knee movement (42.5%), and normal ankle/foot movement (12.5%) in the 4th week of intervention. In the stance phase, the participants show having decreased internal rotation (27.5%) and adduction (32.5%), increased external rotation (40%), abduction (42.5%) in hip and pelvis, normal knee movement (10%), normal ankle/foot movement (50%) in the 4th week of intervention. In the late stance phase, the participants show having decreased internal rotation (30%) and adduction (25%), increased external rotation (30%) and abduction (27.5%) in hip and pelvis, normal knee movement (32.5%) and normal ankle/foot movement (55%) in the 4th week of intervention. It has been seen, there is a significant change in excessive internal rotation, excessive external rotation, excessive abduction, excessive adduction, knee movement, and the ankle/foot movement i.e., p= <0.05. Apathy, gait disturbances, and executive dysfunction (AGED) often occur together. Although they can arise independently, the presence of one might portend another. This recognition suggests the possible etiology. We focus on the most common, the vascular. We explain the AGED vascular mechanism through the ambibaric brain concept. The brain contains two complementary blood pressure systems: One high in the primitive brain (brainstem, basal ganglia, and thalamus) and a low‐pressure system in the Homo sapiens brain (cerebral hemispheres). Hypertension inflicts the most damage on the primitive brain. The frontal systems connect to the basal ganglia, then the thalamus and back to the cortex. Many connections converge on the primitive brain where they are damaged by vascular disease. We need methods of determining optimal, individual blood pressures. Background: The SCI-GDI is an accurate and effective metric to summarize gait kinematics in adults with SCI. It is usually computed with the information registered with a photogrammetry system because it requires accurate information of pelvic and hip movement in the three anatomic planes, which is hard to record with simpler systems. Additionally, due to being developed from the GDI, the SCI-GDI is built upon nine joint movements selected for a pediatric population with cerebral palsy, for which the GDI was originally developed, but those nine movements are not necessarily as meaningful for adults with SCI. Nevertheless, pelvic movement and hip rotation have been proven to have low reliability even when acquired with gold-standard photogrammetry systems. Additionally, the use of photogrammetry is limited in real-life scenarios and when used with rehabilitation technologies, which limits the use of the SCI-GDI to evaluate gait in alternative scenarios to gait laboratories and to evaluate technologies for gait assistance. This research aimed to improve the SCI-GDI to broaden its applicability beyond the use of photogrammetry., Methods: An exploration of the mathematical relevance of each joint movement included in the original GDI for the performance of the metric is performed. Considering the results obtained and the clinical relevance of each of the 9 joints used to compute the SCI-GDI in the gait pattern of the SCI population, a more adaptable SCI-GDI is proposed using four joint movements that can be precisely captured with simpler systems than photogrammetry: sagittal planes of hip, knee and ankle and hip abduction/adduction., Results: The reduced SCI-GDI (rSCI-GDI) effectively represents gait variability of adults with SCI as does the SCI-GDI, while providing more generalizable results and equivalent or stronger correlations with clinical tests validated in the population. Introduction: People with multiple sclerosis and gait impairment are particularly susceptible to facing restrictions in their participation. This study aims to investigate (a) which contextual factors within the framework of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) are relevant for participation from the perspective of people with multiple sclerosis and gait impairment who (intend to) use mobility assistive devices, and (b) how these contextual factors shape the subjective facets of participation, including a sense of connection, efficacy and meaning, based on the social identity approach to health and well-being., Methods: We conducted a qualitative analysis on data gathered from four online focus group interviews, each involving four to six people with multiple sclerosis and gait impairment who (intend to) use mobility assistive devices (totalling N = 19), and 12 individual online interviews conducted with participants from the focus group interviews. The analysis followed the qualitative content analysis according to Kuckartz., Results: Mobility assistive devices such as walkers, manual wheelchairs and electric wheelchairs/scooters were seen as facilitators that enabled participation in various life situations and enhanced a sense of efficacy by promoting independence. Challenges were encountered in relation to architectural barriers, pathways, weather conditions, public transportation and the lack of integral accessibility to services and systems. Although instrumental support could ease participation, it was also associated with an impaired sense of efficacy. Attitudes, particularly developing an understanding of the experiences of people with multiple sclerosis and gait impairment from others' perspectives, were considered important but often lacking, and discriminatory attitudes were experienced. On the level of personal factors, acceptance of both the mobility assistive devices and the disease itself were seen as facilitators for maintaining involvement in life situations., Conclusions: This study extends the existing literature by shedding light on the interconnectedness of contextual factors within the ICF and various facets of perceived participation, including a sense of connection, efficacy and meaning. Introduction: Walking or gait impairment is a common consequence of stroke that persists into the chronic phase of recovery for many stroke survivors. The goals of this work were to obtain consensus from a multidisciplinary panel on current practice patterns and treatment options for walking impairment after stroke, to better understand the unmet needs for rehabilitation in the chronic phase of recovery and to explore opportunities to address them, and to discuss the potential role of rhythmic auditory stimulation (RAS) in gait rehabilitation., Methods: A panel of eight experts specializing in neurology, physical therapy, and physiatry participated in this three-part, modified Delphi study. Survey 1 focused on gathering information to develop statements that were discussed and polled during Survey 2 (interactive session), after which revised and new statements were polled in Survey 3. Consensus was defined as ≥75% (6/8 of panelists) agreement or disagreement with a statement., Results: Consensus agreement was ultimately reached on all 24 statements created and polled during this process. The panelists agreed that individuals with gait or walking impairment in the chronic phase of stroke recovery can achieve meaningful improvement in walking by utilizing various evidence-based interventions. Barriers to treatment included cost, access, participation in long-term treatment, and safety. Consensus was achieved for interventions that have the following features challenging, personalized, accessible, and engaging. Improvement of gait speed and quality, durability of effect, safety, affordability, and ability for home or community use also emerged as important treatment features. Introduction: Wearable exoskeletons are emerging technologies for providing movement assistance and rehabilitation for people with motor disorders. In this study, we focus on the specific gait pathology dropfoot, which is common after a stroke. Dropfoot makes it difficult to achieve foot clearance during swing and heel contact at early stance and often necessitates compensatory movements., Methods: We developed a soft ankle exoskeleton consisting of actuation and transmission systems to assist two degrees of freedom simultaneously: dorsiflexion and eversion, then performed several proof-of-concept experiments on non-disabled persons. The actuation system consists of two motors worn on a waist belt. The transmission system provides assistive force to the medial and lateral sides of the forefoot via Bowden cables. The coupling design enables variable assistance of dorsiflexion and inversion at the same time, and a force-free controller is proposed to compensate for device resistance. We first evaluated the performance of the exoskeleton in three seated movement tests: assisting dorsiflexion and eversion, controlling plantarflexion, and compensating for device resistance, then during walking tests. In all proof-of-concept experiments, dropfoot tendency was simulated by fastening a weight to the shoe over the lateral forefoot., Results: In the first two seated tests, errors between the target and the achieved ankle joint angles in two planes were low; errors of <1.5° were achieved in assisting dorsiflexion and/or controlling plantarflexion and of <1.4° in assisting ankle eversion. The force-free controller in test three significantly compensated for the device resistance during ankle joint plantarflexion. The Gait Deviation Index (GDI) is a dimensionless multivariate measure of overall gait pathology represented as a single score that indicates the gait deviation from a normal gait average. It is calculated using kinematic data recorded during a three-dimensional gait analysis and an orthonormal vectorial basis with 15 gait features that was originally obtained using singular value decomposition and feature analysis on a dataset of children with cerebral palsy. Ever since, it has been used as an outcome measure to study gait in several conditions, including spinal cord injury (SCI). Nevertheless, the validity of implementing the GDI in a population with SCI has not been studied yet. We investigate the application of these mathematical methods to derive a similar metric but with a dataset of adults with SCI (SCI-GDI). The new SCI-GDI is compared with the original GDI to evaluate their differences and assess the need for a specific GDI for SCI and with the WISCI II to evaluate its sensibility. Our findings show that a 21-feature basis is necessary to account for most of the variance in gait patterns in the SCI population and to provide high-quality reconstructions of the gait curves included in the dataset and in foreign data. Furthermore, using only the first 15 features of our SCI basis, the fidelity of the reconstructions obtained in our population is higher than that when using the basis of the original GDI. The results showed that the SCI-GDI discriminates most levels of the WISCI II scale, except for levels 12 and 18. Statistically significant differences were found between both indexes within each WISCI II level except for 12, 20, and the control group (p < 0.05). In all levels, the average GDI value was greater than the average SCI-GDI value, but the difference between both indexes is larger in data with greater impairment and it reduces progressively toward a normal gait pattern. In conclusion, the implementation of the original GDI in SCI may lead to overestimation of gait function, and our new SCI-GDI is more sensitive to larger gait impairment than the GDI. Further validation of the SCI-GDI with other scales validated in SCI is needed.

GDI aims at providing a comprehensive, easy to interpret, and clinically meaningful metric of overall gait function. It has been used as an outcome measure to study gait in several conditions: cerebral palsy (CP), post-stroke hemiparetic gait, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and Parkinson's disease, among others. Nevertheless, its use in population with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) has not been studied yet. The aim of the present study was to investigate the applicability of the GDI to SCI through the assessment of the relationship of the GDI with the Walking Index for Spinal Cord Injury (WISCI) II. 3D gait kinematics of 34 patients with incomplete SCI (iSCI) was obtained. Besides, 3D gait kinematics of a sample of 50 healthy volunteers (HV) was also gathered with Codamotion motion capture system. A total of 302 (iSCI) and 446 (HV) strides were collected. GDI was calculated for each stride and grouped for each WISCI II level. HV data were analyzed as an additional set. Normal distribution for each group was assessed with Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests. Afterward, ANOVA tests were performed between each pair of WISCI II levels to identify differences among groups (p < 0.05). The results showed that the GDI was normally distributed across all WISCI II levels in both iSCI and HV groups. Furthermore, our results showed an increasing relationship between the GDI values and WISCI II levels in subjects with iSCI, but only discriminative in WISCI II levels 13, 19, and 20. The index successfully distinguished HV group from all the individuals with iSCI. Findings of this study indicated that the GDI is not an appropriate multivariate walking metric to represent the deviation of gait pattern in adult population with iSCI from a normal gait profile when it is compared with the levels of walking impairment described by the WISCI II. Future work should aim at defining and validating an overall gait index derived from 3D kinematic gait variables appropriate for SCI, additionally taking into account other walking ability outcome measures. Purpose: To identify the clinical and paraclinical markers of employment status in multiple sclerosis (MS). Methods: This was a cross-sectional sub-study investigating 1226 MS patients. To minimalized confounding effect, two groups of patients, matched by sex, age, and education, were selected: 307 patients with full time employment and 153 unemployed patients receiving disability pension. We explored associations between employment status and Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), 25 Foot Walk Test (25FWT), Nine Hole Peg Test (9HPT), Brief International Cognitive Assessment for MS (BICAMS), Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test (PASAT), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), SLOAN charts (SLOAN), and brain volumetric MRI measures. Results: Both groups differed significantly on all variables of interest (p < 0.001). In the univariate analyses, EDSS, SDMT (Symbol Digit Modalities Test) adjusted for BDI, 25FWT, and 9HPT best explained variability in vocational status. In multivariate analyses, the combination of EDSS, 25FWT, SDMT, BDI, and corpus callosum fraction (CCF) explained the greatest variability. As a next step, after patients were matched by EDSS, differences in SDMT, 25FWT (both p < 0.001), 9HPT, CCF, and T2 lesion volume were still present (all p < 0.005) between both groups. The best multivariate model consisted of SDMT, BDI, and T2 lesion volume. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disease with progressive gait, cognition, and overall functional decline. Surface area changes are frequently seen with aging. In neurodegenerative diseases, the changes can be evident with disease progression. The current study aimed to study the regional microstructural alterations using surface-based morphometry to correlate with gait measures of the pace and rhythm domains in PD patients. We hypothesize that specific regional surface changes can be associated with PD gait impairments. Surface analysis might provide a useful tool for assessing PD for functional status and specific motor domains, such as gait in PD, and potentially could serve as an imaging marker in conjunction with other imaging markers. Twenty-seven PD patients and 37 healthy controls were included. The clinical assessment included Mini-Mental State Exanimation, PD motor assessment, clinical gait testing, and objective/quantitative gait assessment. For patients with PD, all motor and gait testing were performed during both OFF and ON medication states. Three Tesla MRI and high-resolution 3D structural images were acquired with an MP-RAGE pulse sequence. Structural image data preprocessing was performed using the DPABISurf toolbox. Clinical characteristics between PD and control group were compared, and correlation between the surface area and behavioral data were analyzed. At the left lateral temporal cortex (LTC) and right inferior parietal cortex (IPC), PD patients have significantly larger surface areas when compared to controls (P < 0.05) using surface-based morphometry. The surface area changes of the left LTC and right IPC were associated with the worse performance of gait assessed by Berg Balance Scale and Timed Up and Go during OFF (P < 0.01). The left LTC area changes significantly correlated with the number of steps, velocity, and the stride length of the pace domain in the ON state. Our findings suggest that PD is associated with a characteristic regional pattern of larger surface area in the left LTC and right IPC. These regional changes were associated with the pace domain of the gait in the ON state. Background: Dysfunction of cerebellar vermis contributes to gait abnormalities in multiple conditions and may play a key role in gait impairment in Parkinson's disease (PD). Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether altered resting‐state functional connectivity of the vermis relates to subsequent impairment of specific domains of gait in PD. Methods: We conducted morphometric and resting‐state functional connectivity MRI analyses contrasting 45 PD and 32 age‐matched healthy participants. Quantitative gait measures were acquired with a GAITRite walkway at varying intervals after functional connectivity data acquisition. Results: At baseline, PD participants had significantly altered functional connectivity between vermis and sensorimotor cortex compared with controls. Altered vermal functional connectivity with bilateral paracentral lobules correlated with subsequent measures of variability in stride length, step time, and single support time after controlling for confounding variables including the interval between imaging and gait measures. Similarly, altered functional connectivity between vermis and left sensorimotor cortex correlated with mean stride length and its variability. Vermis volume did not relate to any gait measure. PD participants did not differ from controls in vermis volume or cortical thickness at the site of significant regional clusters. Only altered lobule V:sensorimotor cortex functional connectivity correlated with subsequent gait measures in exploratory analyses involving all the other cerebellar lobules. Conclusions: These results demonstrate that abnormal vermal functional connectivity with sensorimotor cortex, in the absence of relevant vermal or cortical atrophy, correlates with subsequent gait impairment in PD. Freezing of gait (FoG) is a paroxysmal and sporadic gait impairment that severely affects PD patients’ quality of life. This review summarizes current neuroimaging investigations that characterize the neural underpinnings of FoG in PD. The review presents and discusses the latest advances across multiple methodological domains that shed light on structural correlates, connectivity changes, and activation patterns associated with the different pathophysiological models of FoG in PD. Resting-state fMRI studies mainly report cortico-striatal decoupling and disruptions in connectivity along the dorsal stream of visuomotor processing, thus supporting the ‘interference’ and the ‘perceptual dysfunction’ models of FoG. Task-based MRI studies employing virtual reality and motor imagery paradigms reveal a disruption in functional connectivity between cortical and subcortical regions and an increased recruitment of parieto-occipital regions, thus corroborating the ‘interference’ and ‘perceptual dysfunction’ models of FoG. The main findings of fNIRS studies of actual gait primarily reveal increased recruitment of frontal areas during gait, supporting the ‘executive dysfunction’ model of FoG. Finally, we discuss how identifying the neural substrates of FoG may open new avenues to develop efficient treatment strategies.

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disease with progressive gait, cognition, and overall functional decline. Surface area changes are frequently seen with aging. In neurodegenerative diseases, the changes can be evident with disease progression. The current study aimed to study the regional microstructural alterations using surface-based morphometry to correlate with gait measures of the pace and rhythm domains in PD patients. We hypothesize that specific regional surface changes can be associated with PD gait impairments. Surface analysis might provide a useful tool for assessing PD for functional status and specific motor domains, such as gait in PD, and potentially could serve as an imaging marker in conjunction with other imaging markers. Twenty-seven PD patients and 37 healthy controls were included. The clinical assessment included Mini-Mental State Exanimation, PD motor assessment, clinical gait testing, and objective/quantitative gait assessment. For patients with PD, all motor and gait testing were performed during both OFF and ON medication states. Three Tesla MRI and high-resolution 3D structural images were acquired with an MP-RAGE pulse sequence. Structural image data preprocessing was performed using the DPABISurf toolbox. Clinical characteristics between PD and control group were compared, and correlation between the surface area and behavioral data were analyzed. At the left lateral temporal cortex (LTC) and right inferior parietal cortex (IPC), PD patients have significantly larger surface areas when compared to controls (P < 0.05) using surface-based morphometry. The surface area changes of the left LTC and right IPC were associated with the worse performance of gait assessed by Berg Balance Scale and Timed Up and Go during OFF (P < 0.01). Mobility impairments are a common symptom of age-related degenerative diseases. Gait features can discriminate those with mobility disorders from healthy individuals, yet phenotyping specific pathologies remains challenging. This study aims to identify if gait parameters derived from two foot-mounted inertial measurement units (IMU) during the 6 min walk test (6MWT) can phenotype mobility impairment from different pathologies (Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS)—neurogenic diseases, and knee osteoarthritis (KOA)—structural joint disease). Bilateral foot-mounted IMU data during the 6MWT were collected from patients with LSS and KOA and matched healthy controls (N = 30, 10 for each group). Eleven gait parameters representing four domains (pace, rhythm, asymmetry, variability) were derived for each minute of the 6MWT. In the entire 6MWT, gait parameters in all four domains distinguished between controls and both disease groups; however, the disease groups demonstrated no statistical differences, with a trend toward higher stride length variability in the LSS group (p = 0.057). Additional minute-by-minute comparisons identified stride length variability as a statistically significant marker between disease groups during the middle portion of 6WMT (3rd min: p ≤ 0.05; 4th min: p = 0.06). These findings demonstrate that gait variability measures are a potential biomarker to phenotype mobility impairment from different pathologies. Increased gait variability indicates loss of gait rhythmicity, a common feature in neurologic impairment of locomotor control, thus reflecting the underlying mechanism for the gait impairment in LSS. Findings from this work also identify the middle portion of the 6MWT as a potential window to detect subtle gait differences between individuals with different origins of gait impairment.

• The corticospinal tract (CST) structure and function and gait were significantly altered in children with Cerebral Palsy (CP). • The structural abnormalities of CST were significantly correlated with gait impairment in some CP children with brain injury. • These findings may provide a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying gait impairment in children with CP. Corticospinal tract (CST) injury may lead to motor disorders in children with Cerebral Palsy (CP). However, the precise underlying mechanisms are still ambiguous. We aimed to characterize the CST structure and function in children with CP and determine their contributions to balance and gait impairments. Twenty-six children with spastic CP participated. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) were utilized to characterize CST structure and function. Common clinical measures were used to assess gait speed, endurance and balance, and mobility. CST structure and function were significantly altered in children with CP. Different abnormal patterns of CST structure were identified as either abnormal appearance of brain hemispheres (Group-1) or semi-normal CST appearance (Group-2). We found significant correlations between the DTI parameters of the more affected CST and gait features only in Group-1. CST structure and function are abnormal in children with CP and these abnormalities may contribute to balance and gait impairment in some children with CP. Our findings may lead to the development of further investigations on the mechanisms underlying gait impairment in children with CP and on decision-making for more effective rehabilitation. Spinal meningiomas represent almost one third of all intradural extramedullary tumors and occur rarely in men. They arise from arachnoid cap cells in the arachnoid cell rests within the meninges and can compress and displace the spinal cord and the nerve roots leading to motor and sensory impairment and also sphincter dysfunction. Most of them are benign with very good outcome after complete surgical resection. Imaging can be challenging in differentiating them from nerve sheath tumors including spinal schwannoma and spinal neurofibroma.

Objectives: Gait and balance disturbances are common symptoms of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH). This study aimed to quantitatively evaluate gait and balance parameters after external lumbar drainage (ELD) using APDM inertial sensors.Methods: Two-minute walkway tests were performed in 36 patients with suspected iNPH and 20 healthy controls. A total of 36 patients underwent ELD. According to clinical outcomes, 20 patients were defined as responders, and the other 16 as non-responders. The gait parameters were documented, and the corresponding differences between responders and non-responders were calculated.Results: When compared with healthy controls, patients with suspected iNPH exhibited decreased cadence, reduced gait speed, a higher percentage of double support, decreased elevation at mid-swing, reduced foot strike angle, shorter stride length, difficulty in turning, and impaired balance functions. After the ELD, all these manifestations, except elevation at mid-swing and balance functions, were significantly improved in responders. The change of Z-score absolute value in the six parameters, except for foot strike angle, was >1. No significant improvement was observed in non-responders.Conclusion: APDM inertial sensors are useful for the quantitative assessment of gait impairment in patients with iNPH, which may be a valuable tool for identifying candidates that are suitable for shunting operations.

Background: Gait impairment is an essential symptom of Parkinson's disease (PD).Objective: This paper introduces a novel computer-vision framework for automatic classification of the severity of gait impairment using front-view motion analysis.Methods: Four hundred and fifty-six videos were recorded from 19 PD patients using an RGB camera during clinical gait assessment. Gait performance in each video was rated by a neurologist using the unified Parkinson's disease rating scale for gait examination (UPDRS-gait). The proposed algorithm detects and tracks the silhouette of the test subject in the video to generate a height signal. Gait features were extracted from the height signal. Feature analysis was performed using the Kruskal-Wallis rank test. A support vector machine was trained using the features to classify the severity levels according to UPDRS-gait in 10-fold cross-validation.Results: Features significantly (p< 0.05) differentiated between median-ranks of UPDRS-gait levels. The SVM classified the levels with a promising area under the ROC of 80.88%.Conclusion: Findings support the feasibility of this model for Parkinson's gait assessment in the home environment. Abstract Background Balance impairments are common in patients with infratentorial stroke. Although robot-assisted gait training (RAGT) exerts positive effects on balance among patients with stroke, it remains unclear whether such training is superior to conventional physical therapy (CPT). Therefore, we aimed to investigate the effects of RAGT combined with CPT and compared them with the effects of CPT only on balance and lower extremity function among survivors of infratentorial stroke. Methods This study was a single-blinded, randomized controlled trial with a crossover design conducted at a single rehabilitation hospital. Patients (n = 19; 16 men, three women; mean age: 47.4 ± 11.6 years) with infratentorial stroke were randomly allocated to either group A (4 weeks of RAGT+CPT, followed by 4 weeks of CPT+CPT) or group B (4 weeks of CPT+CPT followed by 4 weeks of RAGT+CPT). Changes in dynamic and static balance as indicated by Berg Balance Scale scores were regarded as the primary outcome measure. Outcome measures were evaluated for each participant at baseline and after each 4-week intervention period. Results No significant differences in outcome-related variables were observed between group A and B at baseline. In addition, no significant time-by-group interactions were observed for any variables, indicating that intervention order had no effect on lower extremity function or balance. Significantly greater improvements in secondary functional outcomes such as lower extremity Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA-LE) and scale for the assessment and rating of ataxia (SARA) were observed following the RAGT+CPT intervention than following the CPT+CPT intervention. Conclusion RAGT produces clinically significant improvements in balance and lower extremity function in individuals with infratentorial stroke. Thus, RAGT may be useful for patients with balance impairments secondary to other pathologies. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier NCT02680691. Abstract Background The benefit of physical exercise in ageing and particularly in frailty has been the aim of recent research. Moreover, physical activity in the elderly is associated with a decreased risk of mortality, of common chronic illnesses (i.e. cardiovascular disease or osteoarthritis) and of institutionalization as well as with a delay in functional decline. Additionally, very recent research has shown that, despite its limitations, physical exercise is associated with a reduced risk of dementia, Alzheimer disease or mild cognitive decline. Nevertheless, the effect of physical exercise as a systematic, structured and repetitive type of physical activity, in the reduction of risk of cognitive decline in the elderly, is not very clear. The purpose of this study aims to examine whether an innovative multicomponent exercise programme called VIVIFRAIL has benefits for functional and cognitive status among pre-frail/frail patients with mild cognitive impairment or dementia. Methods/design This study is a multicentre randomized clinical trial to be conducted in the outpatient geriatrics clinics of three tertiary hospitals in Spain. Altogether, 240 patients aged 75 years or older being capable of and willing to provide informed consent, with a Barthel Index ≥ 60 and mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia, pre-frail or frail and having someone to help to supervise them when conducting the exercises will be randomly assigned to the intervention or control group. Participants randomly assigned to the usual care group will receive normal outpatient care, including physical rehabilitation when needed. The VIVIFRAIL multicomponent exercise intervention programme consists of resistance training, gait re-training and balance training, which appear to be the best strategy for improving gait, balance and strength, as well as reducing the rate of falls in older individuals and consequently maintaining their functional capacity during ageing. The primary endpoint is the change in functional capacity, assessed with the Short Physical Performance Battery (1 point as clinically significant). Secondary endpoints are changes in cognitive and mood status, quality of life (EQ-5D), 6-m gait velocity and changes in gait parameters (i.e. gait velocity and gait variability) while performing a dual-task test (verbal and counting), handgrip, maximal strength and power of the lower limbs as well as Barthel Index of independence (5 points as clinically significant) at baseline and at the 1-month and 3-month follow-up. Discussion Frailty and cognitive impairment are two very common geriatric syndromes in elderly patients and are frequently related and overlapped. Functional decline and disability are major adverse outcomes of these conditions. Exercise is a potential intervention for both syndromes. If our hypothesis is correct, the relevance of this project is that the results can contribute to understanding that an individualized multicomponent exercise programme (VIVIFRAIL) for frail elderly patients with cognitive impairment is more effective in reducing functional and cognitive impairment than conventional care. Moreover, our study may be able to show that an innovative individualized multicomponent exercise prescription for these high-risk populations is plausible, having at least similar therapeutic effects to other pharmacological and medical prescriptions. Background: In idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH), gait and balance impairment is the most frequent symptom, and it is often associated with a higher fall risk. In a prior study, the anterior callosal angle (ACA) was validated as a reliable marker to discriminate iNPH from Alzheimer's disease and healthy controls. However, the potential correlation between the ACA with clinical symptoms and functional outcomes has not been assessed. The objective of this study is to determine the utility of the ACA in predicting gait improvement after ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunting. Methods: Patients with probable iNPH who underwent shunt placement at a single institution were prospectively enrolled from May 2015 to May 2019. Patients were assessed preoperatively and at 6 months postoperatively following a standard clinical and MRI protocol. Callosal angle (CA) and ACA were calculated from 3 T MRI preoperatively and at 6 months postoperatively. CA and ACA were tested for correlation with clinical scores. Results: Forty-seven patients with probable INPH who completed 6-month postoperative follow-up were enrolled in the study. Baseline ACA was significantly correlated with preoperative fall risk, gait, and balance impairment assessed with Tinetti POMA scale. Additionally, baseline ACA differentiated patients who experienced improvement at Tinetti POMA scale after surgery. Conclusions: The baseline ACA is a useful neuroradiological marker to differentiate patients by fall risk and has significant correlation with the improvement in gait and balance impairment following surgery. Improving health is an important driving factor of sensor technology applications. To meet the demands of precision medicine for medical rehabilitation and elderly guardianship, using wearable sensors to get kinematics, kinetics, and biochemical information has become an interdisciplinary research hotspot recently. This paper proposed a low-cost, intelligent, and lightweight wearable platform for rehabilitation assessment in stroke victims with gait impairment. The paper starts from the sensor physical properties and human physiology structure, and aims to solve sensor drift problem by zero velocity update algorithm. A complementary filter based on proportional integral controller was adopted to eliminate computational errors. Preliminary clinical gait experiments results showed that the protocol we have designed according to the proposed guidelines had demonstrated to be operatively simple and efficient compared with existing methods. The expectation of this case study is to develop a dedicated tool for supporting diagnosis and rehabilitation in the hospital.
