Pro-environmental intentions encourage individuals to make conscious decisions that help protect the environment, reduce waste, conserve resources, and preserve natural habitats. This study aims to assess the predictive power of environmental concern, perceived behavioral control and social norms in determining the pro-environmental intentions in the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) framework. Methodologically we rely on Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), applied to the survey study among 2,702 university students majoring in economics, finance, management, or marketing from Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Spain. The results show that the model explained 51% of the total variance of pro-environmental intentions, with the predictive power of environmental concern and perceived behavioral control at 42% and 45%, respectively, and social norms at only 6% (out of total 51% of explanatory power). The implications of our results suggest a major focus on increasing environmental concern and perceived behavioral control in behavioral interventions to support pro-environmental behavior. The effectiveness of social pressure produced by injunctive social norms proved limited. The cross-country differences were not statistically significant. More research must be done to study the relative effect of injunctive and descriptive social norms on pro-environmental behavior. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to analyse the obstacles and constraints in the shipping and logistics in Laos, a landlocked nation in Southeast Asia. Transportation and logistics play a pivotal role in Laos' national economy, acting as the lifeblood for the movement of goods and materials within the country and linking it to the international trade system. This case study highlights the significance of a robust logistics structure for Laos and its essential role in fostering economic development, agricultural growth, and connectivity. It also underscores the challenges faced by the country's logistics sector, such as limited-service frequency and road safety concerns. The study examines Laos transportation infrastructure, encompassing road, rail, and air networks, and sheds light on the obstacles and disparities that hinder value chain development in the country. These issues include disconnected stakeholder participation, the aging vehicle fleet, and financial limitations. Furthermore, the essay emphasizes the need for improved interconnectivity and intermobility to enhance the national, regional, and international connectivity of Laos and similar landlocked developing countries in Asia. We report here on the observation of unpolarized (neutral) points in the sky during the total solar eclipse on 11 August 1999. Near the zenith a neutral point was observed at 450 nm at two different points of time during totality. Around this celestial point the distribution of the angle of polarization was heterogeneous: The electric field vectors on the one side were approximately perpendicular to those on the other side. At another moment of totality, near the zenith a local minimum of the degree of linear polarization occurred at 550 nm. Near the antisolar meridian, at a low elevation another two neutral points occurred at 450 nm at a certain moment during totality. Approximately at the position of these neutral points, at another moment of totality a local minimum of the degree of polarization occurred at 550 nm, whereas at 450 nm a neutral point was observed, around which the angle-of-polarization pattern was homogeneous: The electric field vectors were approximately horizontal on both sides of the neutral point. This paper presents the circumstances regarding the transportation of high purity ethanol, also mentioned as ethyl alcohol. Due to its physical or chemical properties, the ADR, also known as the International Transport of Dangerous Goods, describes the conditions under which it can be transported. The main topic in the paper is how this flammable product can be transported by tank trucks. The paper focuses on a real life logistic problem. ADR and road regulations are presented throughout a personal example in order to determine, which is the optimal tank volume for high purity ethanol transportation. Research has been conducted on heterodimerizing leucine zipper system. The use of this system in investigating the role of amino acids in coiled coil stability and the use of alanine-based double-mutant thermodynamic cycle in measuring coupling energy between amino acids and in investigating amino acid interactions which regulate dimerization specificity are described.

For elimination of the shortcomings of imaging polarimeters that take the necessary three pictures sequentially through linear-polarization filters, a three-lens, three-camera, full-sky imaging polarimeter was designed that takes the required pictures simultaneously. With this polarimeter, celestial polarization patterns can be measured even if rapid temporal changes occur in the sky: under cloudy sky conditions, or immediately after sunrise or prior to sunset. One of the possible applications of our polarimeter is the ground-based detection of clouds. With use of the additional information of the degree and the angle of polarization patterns of cloudy skies measured in the red (650 nm), green (550 nm), and blue (450 nm) spectral ranges, improved algorithms of radiometric cloud detection can be offered. We present a combined radiometric and polarimetric algorithm that performs the detection of clouds more efficiently and reliably as compared with an exclusively radiometric cloud-detection algorithm. The advantages and the limits of three-lens, three-camera, full-sky imaging polarimeters as well as the possibilities of improving our polarimetric cloud detection method are discussed briefly. Aims: The heterotetrameric assembly protein complex 2 (AP‐2) is a central hub for clathrin‐dependent endocytosis. The AP‐2 α‐adaptin subunit has two major isoforms, encoded by two separate genes: AP2A1 and AP2A2. Endocytosis has been implicated in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disease, and recent studies linked α‐adaptins (gene variants, splicing defects and altered expression) with late‐onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD) risk. Here, we used multiple antibodies to investigate α‐adaptin isoforms and their localization in human brains. Methods: The specificities of 10 different α‐adaptin antibodies were evaluated using immunoblots after human AP2A1 and AP2A2 plasmid transfection in cultured cells. Additional immunoblot analyses were then performed on protein homogenates from control and LOAD subjects. Formalin‐fixed, paraffin‐embedded brain sections from control and LOAD subjects were immunohistochemically stained, and immunofluorescence experiments were performed for quantitation of colocalisation with digital image analysis. Results: Eight of the 10 evaluated antibodies recognised transfected α‐adaptin proteins on immunoblots. The α‐adaptin subspecies were relatively uniformly expressed in five different human brain regions. The α‐adaptins were present in the detergent‐insoluble fraction from cognitively impaired, but less so in control, brains. Immunohistochemical analyses showed colocalisation of AP2A1 with tau pathology in LOAD brains. By contrast, AP2A2 colocalised with microglial cells. Conclusions: These observations provide evidence of isoform‐specific changes of α‐adaptins in the brains of LOAD subjects. Antibodies that were verified to recognise AP2A1, but not AP2A2, labelled neurofibrillary tangles of LOAD patients. Abstract Backgound Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by the loss of motor function. Several ALS genes have been identified as their mutations can lead to familial ALS, including the recently reported RNA-binding protein fused in sarcoma (Fus). However, it is not clear how mutations of Fus lead to motor neuron degeneration in ALS. In this study, we present a Drosophila model to examine the toxicity of Fus, its Drosophila orthologue Cabeza (Caz), and the ALS-related Fus mutants. Results Our results show that the expression of wild-type Fus/Caz or FusR521G induced progressive toxicity in multiple tissues of the transgenic flies in a dose- and age-dependent manner. The expression of Fus, Caz, or FusR521G in motor neurons significantly impaired the locomotive ability of fly larvae and adults. The presynaptic structures in neuromuscular junctions were disrupted and motor neurons in the ventral nerve cord (VNC) were disorganized and underwent apoptosis. Surprisingly, the interruption of Fus nuclear localization by either deleting its nuclear localization sequence (NLS) or adding a nuclear export signal (NES) blocked Fus toxicity. Moreover, we discovered that the loss of caz in Drosophila led to severe growth defects in the eyes and VNCs, caused locomotive disability and NMJ disruption, but did not induce apoptotic cell death. Conclusions These data demonstrate that the overexpression of Fus/Caz causes in vivo toxicity by disrupting neuromuscular junctions (NMJs) and inducing apoptosis in motor neurons. In addition, the nuclear localization of Fus is essential for Fus to induce toxicity. Our findings also suggest that Fus overexpression and gene deletion can cause similar degenerative phenotypes but the underlying mechanisms are likely different.
