ABSTRACT: Women have historically been linked to the domestic-private sphere. In gender values, these space divisions have been very important. These space divisions have traditionally been considered based on binary positions according to gender: public versus private, external versus internal work, within a system of social organization based on a complex network of symbols. In art, many women work and reflect on their artistic projects about the domestic or private sphere. Women’s confinement to the private sphere for centuries has enabled them to tackle certain issues in their artistic productions such as the home and the roles the women have usually played in this space.

Abstract Introduction: Advanced chronic kidney disease (ARKD) is associated with a greater likelihood of suffering from depressive and anxious symptomatology. However, resilience may cushion these effects. The overall objective was to assess the anxious and depressive symptomatology and resilience of patients with CKD. Methods: 70 patients (80% male) aged 38-88 years (M=68.88; TD=9.98) were evaluated using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and the Connor Davidson Resilience Scale. Descriptive analyses, t-tests, Cohen d-tests and Pearson correlations were performed. Results: 41.79% showed anxious symptomatology and 25.38% depressive, with moderate resilience scores. Emotional symptomatology was higher in women and was associated with lower resilience. Conclusions: it is necessary to know the risk and protection factors in order to carry out intervention programs that affect them and favor the physical and mental health of the patient.

Design Thinking is a methodology that can be used for business innovation, allowing to address complex problems and provide viable solutions by placing the user in the center of reflection. But this methodology can corrupt the reflected and argued work of the design project when it is not carried out applying the appropriate knowledge. This work is structured around a reflection on this methodology and its application in different areas. Firstly, a comparative analysis of representative bibliography is conducted to outline a theoretical basis on Design Thinking. In the second part, a fieldwork based on interviews and observation of creative workshops helps decipher how the Design Thinking is used in different fields, to see up to what extent its application can modify the design results. This article concludes that the broad description of Design Thinking helps to explain the methodology of a project at an educational level, its tools helping to unlock a project at a business level, and its techniques helping to explain the phases of a project at a professional design level.

Background. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with an elevated risk of all-cause mortality, with cardiovascular death being extensively investigated. However, non-cardiovascular mortality represents the biggest percentage, showing an evident increase in recent years. Klotho is a gene highly expressed in the kidney, with a clear influence on lifespan. Low levels of Klotho have been linked to CKD progression and adverse outcomes. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the Klotho gene have been associated with several diseases, but studies investigating the association of Klotho SNPs with noncardiovascular death in CKD populations are lacking. Methods. The main aim of this study was to assess whether 11 Klotho SNPs were associated with non-cardiovascular death in a subpopulation of the National Observatory of Atherosclerosis in Nephrology (NEFRONA) study (n ¼ 2185 CKD patients). Results. After 48 months of follow-up, 62 cardiovascular deaths and 108 non-cardiovascular deaths were recorded. We identified a high non-cardiovascular death risk combination of SNPs corresponding to individuals carrying the most frequent allele (G) at rs562020, the rare allele (C) at rs2283368 and homozygotes for the rare allele (G) at rs2320762 (rs562020 GG/AG þ rs2283368 CC/CT þ rs2320762 GG). Among the patients with the three SNPs genotyped (n ¼ 1016), 75 (7.4%) showed this combination. Furthermore, 95 (9.3%) patients showed a low-risk combination carrying all the opposite genotypes (rs562020 AA þ rs2283368 TT þ rs2320762 GT/TT). All the other combinations [n ¼ 846 (83.3%)] were considered as normal risk. Using competing risk regression analysis, we confirmed that the proposed combinations are independently associated with a higher fhazard ratio [HR] 3.28 [confidence interval (CI) 1.51-7.12]g and lower [HR 6 × 10-6 (95% CI 3.3 × 10-7-1.1 × 10-5)] risk of suffering a non-cardiovascular death in the CKD population of the NEFRONA cohort compared with patients with the normal-risk combination. Conclusions. Determination of three SNPs of the Klotho gene could help in the prediction of non-cardiovascular death in CKD. © The Author(s) 2020.

Sustainability from design. Critical overview, analysis and disambiguation En: ICERI2018 Proceedings. 11th annual International Conference of Education, Research and Innovation (Seville, Spain. 12-14 November, 2018.): IATED, 2019, p. 5597-5603. ISBN 978-84-09-05948-5 DOI 10.21125/iceri.2018.0230 Sustainable human development has become a need in today's globalised world. Design, understood as a cultural phenomenon, is not unrelated to this need, as can be seen both in practice through many of the products designed with sustainable values, and in theory through the numerous publications that are being produced around issues related to sustainable processes. However, the complexity of the significance of sustainable design demands a critical approach to the concept of sustainability in order to establish a disambiguation of the term, which is misused in many contexts. This paper offers a global analysis that integrates the origins, evolution, components and situation of sustainable design in the socio-economic framework, with the aim of breaking with partial approaches and helping to understand the term correctly, while proposing the basis for moving towards a change in the current model. In order to disambiguate the term of sustainable design, this study uses a methodology based both on the analysis of works by relevant authors in the design field (Bonsiepe, Manzini, Margolín, Papanek, Cortina) and on the analysis of relevant bibliographical sources belonging to different fields, such as economic, business, ecological and social, establishing relationships and differentiations with the terms of ecodevelopment, ecodesign, globalism, growth, ecological balance and circular economy. The results of the present work show that for the disambiguation of the term sustainability it is necessary to simultaneously consider 5 areas: economic, political, environmental, social and cultural, and point out the current pre-eminence of an economicist vision of the term that is made visible through an excessive faith in technology, a biased vision of sustainability that benefits the current economic system, the integration of the social factor exclusively from the responsibility of the company, and a vision of the future based on a design that lacks the necessary critical foundation to stop feeding a culture based on unsustainable consumption and production models. As this is a timely topic, the relevance of this study for the field of design lies in two aspects: on the one hand, it allows the current designer to better understand the concept of sustainability, moving it away from a biased view, normally oriented only towards commercial purposes; on the other hand, in the field of education, the results of the study can be easily integrated into the curriculum of the current Degrees in Industrial Design, allowing the students and future designers to enrich their training with a more complete and critical view of the term, while at the same time allowing them to understand the need to integrate ethical values into the design process.

- Abstract
From a sustainable design approach, it is inevitable to question the current economic system and its practice focused on the production of consumer goods. In recent years, many social sectors have stated the urgent need to change production and consumption models and develop new economic models that would prioritize human survival. This paper establishes a framework to reflect on the integration of social and solidarity economy principles in the design processes as bearers of a solidarity and sustainability culture in order to promote the generation of consumer goods for the social market. The paper is structured with a theoretical approach since the authors first try to define the concept of social and solidarity economy and then link this transforming model to the concept of sustainable human development design. The paper’s main objective is to establish conceptual bases that allow us to continue studying tools and strategies to promote the design as a factor of sustainable culture, innovation, and social welfare.

The high competitiveness of the current market makes it difficult to contract unique projects for single-family homes. Therefore, it is necessary to sharpen inventiveness in order to offer the customer a different vision compared to the proposals of other competitors. In this context, we propose to incorporate the user in the design process during the conceptual development stage of the construction proposal, using Virtual Reality (VR). Introducing the user to an immersive sensory experience would allow him/her to live his/her own living space before being built, allowing designers and architects to focus attention on the personalized study of natural lighting and the design of the walls that act as a connection between the interior and exterior space of the home. This way of approaching the project can provide a competitive advantage that would contribute to the positioning of the architectural studio as a referent in the market. This paper analyses different current VR systems that could be adapted during the work process, and discusses the advantage that this project methodology has for architectural studios compared to other more conventional ones.

Comunicació presentada a INTED2018, 12th International Technology, Education and Development Conference. (March 5-7 2018, Valencia, Spain). The current labour context is increasingly changing, driven by the continuous blooming of technological changes. So, the integration of recent graduates to the labour market, as new professionals, demand the acquisition of not only each field’s specific Hard Skills, but also generic, transversal Soft Skills which might facilitate the adaptation of these professionals to future contexts, while enabling them to develop their work career in a responsible way, as well as increasing their entrepreneurial spirit. These abilities are especially relevant in the field of design engineering, as the idiosyncrasy of the discipline leads their practitioners to offering solutions to diverse problems society and users have. So their professional development is inextricably linked to social changes and society evolution. In this way, in the “Sustainable Development Goal 4, Education 2030” (SDG4-Education 2030), regarding targets and commitments, the UNESCO defines the needs to emphasize the development of high-level cognitive and non-cognitive/transferable skills, such as problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, communication skills or conflicts resolution, which can be applied across a wide range of occupational fields. Therefore, the acquisition of these Soft Skills by design professionals can ease their adaptation to a novel future scenario and guarantee a prolonged professional development over time. So, not only learners should be provided with opportunities to update their skills continuously through lifelong learning, but it is also necessary to give the chance for active professionals to adapt to new contexts in the future. This work presents an action proposal aimed to enhance the acquisition of Soft Skills by design professionals, in a playful way. So, a conceptual proposal of a methodology, based on the concept of Gamification, is suggested, where the degree of acquisition of some Soft Skills by the designer would be assessed. To do so, a platform where sharing and assessing evidences is to be developed. And the incentive for the participation of both new graduates and professionals lies in the detection of their professional weaknesses (from the evidences’ assessment) and the possibility of having a feedback consisting of professional recycling actions. The use of Smartphones becomes the vehicular platform for acquiring and assessing these transversal abilities, as these devices offer different technological possibilities for generating the designers’ own evidences, by means of actions such as voice recording, video recording, image capturing, text recognition, etc. Once generated, the evidences would be assessed by using a co-evaluation system, based on a peer review process, where the evaluation of colleagues’ work is presented as a part of a collaborative game and where the assessment process of peers’ work can contribute ideas for improving personal Soft Skills. Furthermore, all this may end up in the generation of a community with common interests. As a result, the suggested methodology can offer a useful tool for designers for continuously assessing the state of their Soft Skills, thus facilitating their progressive adaptation to the changes to their future professional contexts.

- Abstract
[EN] The high competitiveness of the current market makes it difficult to contract unique projects for singlefamily homes. This way of approaching the project can provide a competitive advantage that would contribute to the positioning of the architectural studio as a referent in the market. This paper analyses different current VR systems that could be adapted during the work process, and discusses the advantage that this project methodology has for architectural studios compared to other more conventional ones.
