Abstract

There is a need for high reliability surface mount assembly processes for aerospace, military, and medical applications. This approach for improving design for producibility and reliability of electronic system assembly processes can be utilized as a starting framework. Described herein is a general methodology to Design for Producibility and Reliability (DFPAR) for very small volume production runs.

Abstract

Genetic testing has the potential to revolutionize primary care, but few health systems have developed the infrastructure to support precision population medicine applications or attempted to evaluate its impact on patient and provider outcomes. In 2018, Sanford Health, the nation’s largest rural nonprofit health care system, began offering genetic testing to its primary care patients. To date, more than 11,000 patients have participated in the Sanford Chip Program, over 90% of whom have been identified with at least one informative pharmacogenomic variant, and about 1.5% of whom have been identified with a medically actionable predisposition for disease. This manuscript describes the rationale for offering the Sanford Chip, the programs and infrastructure implemented to support it, and evolving plans for research to evaluate its real-world impact.

49. Nucleotide sequence analysis of murine 21-hydroxylase genes: mutations affecting gene expression.

Abstract

Steroid 21-hydroxylase [21-OHase; steroid 21-monooxygenase; steroid, hydrogen-donor:oxygen oxidoreductase (21-hydroxylating); EC 1.14.99.10] is a cytochrome P-450 enzyme required for the adrenal synthesis of mineralocorticoids and glucocorticoids. The gene encoding this protein is present in two copies (21-OHase A and B) in the S region of the murine major histocompatibility complex. Previous studies utilizing gene-specific oligonucleotide probes and gene transfer showed that only the 21-OHase A gene is expressed in the BALB/c mouse. Here, we present the complete primary structures of both BALB/c 21-OHase encoding genes. Comparison of the nucleotide sequences defines a deletion of 215 nucleotides spanning the second exon of the 21-OHase B gene; other nucleotide changes in the 21-OHase B gene introduce frame shifts and premature termination codons. Southern blot analysis of C57BL/6 and DBA/2J mice indicates that a similar deletion is present in these strains; however the C3H/HeJ strain is a structural variant. A hybrid gene composed of the 21-OHase B promoter placed 5' of the 21-OHase A structural sequences was efficiently transcribed following transfection into Y1 adrenocortical tumor cells. These findings demonstrate that the 21-OHase B gene promoter is functional and suggest that mutations within the 21-OHase B structural gene are responsible for its lack of expression.

50. Corrosion inhibition by some oxyanions in coal-water slurries

Abstract

Corrosion rates of AISI 1010 steel samples in coal-water slurries in the presence and absence of chromate, molybdate, and tungstate oxyanion inhibitors were determined by electrochemical and weight loss measurement techniques. The corrosion rates obtained by the electrochemical technique were generally higher than the values obtained by weight loss measurement. The corrosion inhibition efficiencies of chromate, molybdate, and tungstate were almost the same and the shifts infree corrosionpotential suggest that these inhibitors are anodic in nature. Electron microprobe, X-ray photoelectron, and Auger electron data showed the presence of hexavalent molybdenum and tungsten oxides and trivalent chromium oxide species in the films that formed on the surfaces of the samples exposed to solutions containing inhibitor. The amount of inhibitor present in the films decreased in the order chromium > tungsten > molybdenum.
