Abstract

The nitrogen-vacancy color center in diamond is one of the most important systems in the fast-growing field of sensing. This color centers are used in both high-resolution and high-sensitivity sensors. However, techniques for quick and efficient formations of this color center are still in the development stage. In this paper, we present a study on the influence of the electron irradiation dose on the conversion of substitutional nitrogen into $\text{N}{{\text{V}}^{-}}$ centers. The study was done on diamonds that were highly enriched with nitrogen (~100 ppm), which on one hand should maximize the effect of irradiation, and on another be of interest for high-sensitivity magnetometers. The maximum achieved conversion efficiency was as high as ${37\pm 3.7}$, with no observed saturation on the electron dose even with the simplest annealing procedure. The measurements of the corresponding dephasing time made it possible to estimate for shot-noise limited sensitivity per unit volume of a stationary field sensor with such a diamond to be ${9\pm 1\times {{10}^{-14}}\text{T}}/{\sqrt{\text{Hz}\cdot \text{m}{{\text{m}}^{-3}}}}\;$.

Abstract

The sensitivity of the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) color centers in diamond-based magnetometers strongly depends on the number of NV centers involved in the measurement. Unfortunately, an increasing concentration of NV centers leads to decreases of their dephasing and coherence time if the nitrogen content exceeds a certain threshold level (approximately ${10^{17}}{\rm{ c}}{{\rm{m}}^{ - 3}}$). Here, we demonstrate that this increased dephasing can be efficiently compensated by postprocessing procedures in the vicinity of the threshold concertation, thus extending possible useful concentrations on NV centers with the maximum possible decoherence time in diamonds with a natural carbon content.

Abstract

The physicochemical and catalytic (CO2 hydrogenation) characteristics of Mo-containing catalysts were studied. The catalysts containing 8 and 15 wt % Mo oxide were prepared by impregnation of γ‑Al2O3 with ammonium paramolybdate, followed by drying and calcination at 500°C. The introduction of Mo oxide reduced the pore volume of the support and increased the average pore size, indicating that molybdenum oxide was distributed in the support pores. According to the X-ray diffraction analysis, the calcinated catalyst did not contain the crystalline MoO3 phase. According to the Raman spectra, oxygen-containing formations were present on the catalyst surface, with Mo atoms tetrahedrally and octahedrally coordinated to the oxygen atoms. The impregnated MoO3 was partially reduced with hydrogen during linear heating, starting from 320°C. The hydrogenation of CO2 (gas composition, vol %: 30.7 CO2, 68 H2, the rest was N2; 0.5 g sample) was studied under conditions of linear heating to 400°C. The main reaction was the reverse reaction of CO steam reforming. The contribution of methanation to CO2 hydrogenation was small. An increase in the temperature and pressure had a positive effect on CO2 conversion. When the pressure increased from 1 to 5 MPa, the CO content was approximately doubled. In the CO2 hydrogenation, appreciable activity (although significantly lower compared to that of Mo-containing catalysts) was also exhibited by γ-Al2O3, preliminarily heated to 400°C in an H2 flow. Abstract

The features of oxidation of ultra-high-temperature ceramic material HfB2-30 vol.%SiC modified with 1 vol.% graphene as a result of supersonic flow of dissociated CO2 (generated with the use of high-frequency induction plasmatron), as well as under the influence of combined heating by high-speed CO2 jets and ytterbium laser radiation, were studied for the first time. It was found that the addition of laser radiation leads to local heating of the central region from ~1750 to ~2000–2200 °C; the observed temperature difference between the central region and the periphery of ~300–550 °C did not lead to cracking and destruction of the sample. Oxidized surfaces and cross sections of HfB2-SiC-CG ceramics with and without laser heating were investigated using X-ray phase analysis, Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy with local elemental analysis. During oxidation by supersonic flow of dissociated CO2, a multilayer near-surface region similar to that formed under the influence of high-speed dissociated air flows was formed. An increase in surface temperature with the addition of laser heating from 1750–1790 to 2000–2200 °C (short term, within 2 min) led to a two to threefold increase in the thickness of the degraded near-surface area of ceramics from 165 to 380 microns. The experimental results indicate promising applications of ceramic materials based on HfB2-SiC as part of high-speed flying vehicles in planetary atmospheres predominantly composed of CO2 (e.g., Venus and Mars). Abstract

The heat transfer to a cylindrical water-cooled copper model was experimentally investigated in an induction VGU-4 high-frequency (HF) plasmatron of the Institute for Problems in Mechanics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The model, 30 mm in diameter, equipped with a calorimetric transducer with a heat-adsorbing graphite surface, 13.8 mm in diameter, was exposed to the surface heating in the combined regime by nitrogen plasma and laser radiation and in the cases of the heating with only laser radiation or a nitrogen plasma jet. The experiments in the HF-plasmatron jets were performed at the pressure in the setup low-pressure chamber p = 1 × 104 Pa, nitrogen mass flow rate G = 2.4 g/s, and the plasmatron HF-generator anode power Na.p. = 22 kW. It is established that in the chosen experimental regimes the dissociated-nitrogen jet and the high-frequency induction discharge do not produce a considerable effect on the laser beam passing through them. The values of the heat flux density are obtained as functions of the laser radiation power delivered. The subsonic nitrogen plasma flow in the quartz discharge channel and in the low-pressure chamber of the VGU-4 setup is numerically modeled under the experimental conditions basing on the solution of the complete Navier–Stokes equations using the Patankar–Spalding method. Abstract

Purpose. Modeling the transport network, streamlining the development and planning of traffic flows, which is possible through the introduction of information technology, leads to better control of the transport system and transport operations. The study is aimed at gaining new knowledge on determining traffic routes for vehicle drivers in cities. Currently discovered patterns of drivers choosing traffic routes are offered for all drivers of vehicles, regardless of their individual characteristics. Methodology. When determining the patterns of drivers choosing the routes of vehicles in cities, it is proposed to conduct differentially depending on the individual characteristics of drivers, which are determined by the type of nervous system. Based on the analysis, factors were identified that affect the choice of traffic route for drivers. In order to fix the identified factors, a survey was conducted using a specially designed questionnaire. To take into account the individual characteristics of drivers using a typological questionnaire, the type of nervous system was determined. To determine the patterns of choice of traffic routes for drivers of vehicles, methods of regression analysis were used. Findings. Based on the data obtained from a survey of vehicle drivers, a model was developed for changing the correspondence share implemented by the drivers with the sanguine type of nervous system on the alternative traffic routes. A statistical evaluation of the resulting model indicates the admissibility of its use for predicting the parameters of traffic flows in urban sustainable development projects. Originality. For the first time, the authors conducted a study of the patterns of choice of traffic routes for drivers of vehicles, taking into account the individual characteristics of drivers, which are determined by the type of nervous system. Practical value. Based on the results obtained, it is possible to model the transport network, rationalize the development and plan traffic flows, which is possible through the introduction of information technologies. Modeling the traffic routes of vehicles makes it possible to analyze the throughput of highways and intersections. Моделирование транспортной сети и рационализация развития и планирования транспортных потоков, которые возможны с помощью внедрения информационных технологий, приводит к более качественному контролю транспортной системы и транспортных операций. Данное исследование направлено на получение новых знаний по определению водителями транспортных средств маршрутов движения в городах, поскольку выявленные в настоящее время закономерности выбора водителями маршрутов движения предлагаются для всех водителей транспортных средств независимо от их индивидуальных характеристик. Методика. Определение закономерностей выбора водителями маршрутов движения транспортных средств в городах предложено проводить дифференцированно в зависимости от индивидуальных особенностей водителей, которые определяются типом нервной системы. На основе проведенного анализа были выявлены факторы, влияющие на выбор водителями маршрута движения. С целью фиксации выявленных факторов было проведено обследование с использованием специально разработанной анкеты. Для учета индивидуальных особенностей водителей с использованием типологического опросника определялся тип нервной системы. Для определения закономерности выбора водителями транспортных средств маршрутов движения были использованы методы регрессионного анализа. Результаты. На основе данных, полученных при опросе водителей транспортных средств, была разработана модель изменения доли корреспонденции, реализуемой по альтернативным маршрутам движения при управлении водителями с типом нервной системы «сангвиник». Статистическая оценка полученной модели свидетельствует о допустимости ее использования для прогнозирования параметров транспортных потоков в городских проектах устойчивого развития. Научная новизна. Авторы впервые провели исследование закономерностей выбора водителями транспортных средств маршрутов движения с учетом индивидуальных особенностей водителей, которые определяются типом нервной системы. Практическая значимость. На основе полученных результатов можно моделировать транспортную сеть, рационализировать развитие и планирование транспортных потоков, которые возможны с помощью внедрения информационных технологий. Моделирование маршрутов движения транспортных средств позволяет проводить анализ пропускной способности магистралей и перекрестков.
