1. Complexity Growth and the Krylov-Wigner function

Abstract

For any state in a $D$-dimensional Hilbert space with a choice of basis, one can define a discrete version of the Wigner function -- a quasi-probability distribution which represents the state on a discrete phase space. The Wigner function can, in general, take on negative values, and the amount of negativity in the Wigner function has an operational meaning as a resource for quantum computation. In this note, we study the growth of Wigner negativity for a generic initial state under time evolution with chaotic Hamiltonians. We introduce the Krylov-Wigner function, i.e., the Wigner function defined with respect to the Krylov basis (with appropriate phases), and show that this choice of basis minimizes the early time growth of Wigner negativity in the large $D$ limit. We take this as evidence that the Krylov basis (with appropriate phases) is ideally suited for a dual, semi-classical description of chaotic quantum dynamics at large $D$. We also numerically study the time evolution of the Krylov-Wigner function and its negativity in random matrix theory for an initial pure state. We observe that the negativity broadly shows three phases: it rises gradually for a time of $O(\sqrt{D})$, then hits a sharp ramp and finally saturates close to its upper bound of $\sqrt{D}$., Comment: 30 pages, 6 figures

Abstract

Quantum computers promise to efficiently solve important problems that are intractable on a conventional computer. Quantum computational algorithms have the potential to be an exciting new way of studying quantum cosmology. In quantum cosmology, we learn about the dynamics of the universe without constructing a complete theory of quantum gravity. Since the universal wavefunction exists in an infinite-dimensional superspace over all possible 3D metrics and modes of matter configurations, we take minisuperspaces for our work by constraining the degrees of freedom to particular 3D metrics and uniform scalar field configurations. Here, we consider a wide variety of cosmological models. We begin by analyzing an anisotropic universe with cosmological constant and classical radiation. We then study the results for higher derivatives, Kaluza-Klein theories and string dilaton in quantum cosmology. We use IBM's Quantum Information Science Kit (QISKit) python library and the Variational Quantum Eigensolver (VQE) algorithm for studying these systems. The VQE algorithm is a hybrid algorithm that uses the variational approach and interleaves quantum and classical computations in order to find the minimum eigenvalue of the Hamiltonian for a given system., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures

14. Interpretive Structural Modelling Approach to Evaluate Knowledge Sharing Enablers in Circular Supply Chain: A Study of The Indian Manufacturing Sector.

Abstract

Knowledge sharing can be considered an important activity to improve the performance among various entities of a supply chain. The purpose of this study is to identify and evaluate a set of critical knowledge-sharing enablers that might aid in successfully managing a circular supply chain (CSC) in the context of the Indian manufacturing sector. The knowledge-sharing enablers were determined through a review of the extant literature, coupled with discussion with subject matter experts (SMEs). The quantitative technique of interpretive structural modelling (ISM) was used to analyse the identified knowledge-sharing enablers. The findings of this study revealed that the knowledge-sharing capabilities of an organisation, organisation structure and support from the top management formed the most significant enablers for Indian manufacturing organisations. This study has significant managerial and academic contributions. While supply chain managers can use the findings of this study to gain a better understanding of the role of knowledge sharing in managing CSC in the Indian manufacturing context, policymakers can use these findings to formulate strategies for effectively managing the CSC, as well as improving its operational effectiveness. The findings can also aid academic researchers to further analyse the role that knowledge sharing might play in successfully managing CSC, including other industries (for example, service industries), as well as other geographical regions. Abstract

The COVID-19 global pandemic, over the last year and a half, has managed to create massive disruptions in global supply chains and exposed their vulnerabilities, thereby reemphasizing the importance of resiliency. The current study aims to identify and prioritize, through the quantitative decision-making technique of Interpretive Structural Modelling (ISM), a set of barriers to resiliency for the pharmaceutical supply chain in India. The rationale behind choosing the Indian pharmaceutical supply chain was that the pharmaceutical sector in India supplies over half of the global demand for vaccines and generic drugs, and the trajectory of growth is indicated around US$100 billion by the year 2025, along with exporting pharmaceutical products to nearly 200 destination countries. The findings of the current study are expected to aid the decision-makers in evaluating the relative criticality and the interrelationship between the potential (and critical) barriers to supply chain resiliency, and in turn to develop strategic plans. This, in turn, can help to combat unforeseen supply chain disruptors such as COVID-19. This methodology and the findings of the study can be generalized for other supply chains. Abstract

Various polycarbonate--poly(butylene terephthalate) polyester (PC-PBT) blend prepared by reactive melt blending primarily in extruder with range of temperature and time are discussed in this review article. In the melt blended PC-PBT blend system, transesterification plays a major role in formation of PC-PBT blend. Transesterification reactions between these two polymers have been analyzed by proper polymer sample, end-capped or having reactive chain end group. The kinetics of mechanism is a function of temperature and PC-PBT ratio. Trace catalyst residue present in PBT catalyzes the transesterification reaction. As the extent of transesterification is increased, it forms various composition of copolymer. Inhibition in the transesterification reaction of PC-PBT blend has been observed when different type of alkyl, aiyl, and alkyl-aryl group of phosphite are introduced into it, otherwise there has been collateral change in the morphology, thermal, and mechanical property of blend. Therefore, this PC-PBT blend has been an interesting topic of research in academia and industries. Silylzinc reagents are desirable for the synthesis of organosilanes due to their compatibility with functional groups; however, the use of pyrophoric silyllithium and dissolved lithium salts in their production hinders their development. Our solid Me3SiZnI circumvents these limitations, and herein, we demonstrate its significance in the synthesis of aryl and alkyl trimethylsilanes via cross‐coupling of aryl and alkyl bromides. 43. Absorptive Capacity and Disruptive Innovation: The Mediating Role of Organizational Agility

Abstract

Disruptive innovation involves a process where a new entrant enters the lower end of the market and gradually penetrates the mainstream market, eventually displacing the incumbent. Disruptive innovation has been widely used as a strategy for competitive advantage. The gathering and sharing of new information significantly contribute to the success of disruptive innovation. Anchoring on dynamic capability theory, the current research work studies the role of absorptive capacity in the adoption of disruptive innovation. The study also investigates the role of organizational agility in this relationship. Using structural equation modeling analysis based on the response of 192 Indian innovation and development professionals, the study found that both potential and realized absorptive capacity significantly influence the adoption of disruptive innovation. Organizational agility mediates this relationship between absorptive capacity and disruptive innovation. Organizations can use the current study to better understand how new information can be assimilated and used to adopt disruptive innovation and design innovation strategies accordingly.
