Abstract

The frequency and orbital angular momentum (OAM) are independent physical properties of light that both offer unbounded degrees of freedom. However, creating, processing, and detecting high-dimensional OAM states have been a pivot and long-lasting task, as the complexity of the required optical systems scales up drastically with the OAM dimension. On the other hand, mature toolboxes -- such as optical frequency combs -- have been developed in the frequency domain for parallel measurements with excellent fidelity. Here we correlate the two dimensions into an equidistant comb structure on a photonic chip. Dissipative optical solitons formed in a nonlinear microresonator are emitted through the engraved angular gratings with each comb line carrying distinct OAM. Such one-to-one correspondence between the OAM and frequencies manifests state-of-the-art extinction ratios over 18.5 dB, enabling precision spectroscopy of optical vortices. The demonstrated vortex soliton microcombs provide coherent light sources that are multiplexed in the spatial and frequency domain, having the potential to establish a new modus operandi of high-dimensional structured light.

Abstract

An efficient Nd: A YAG single-frequency laser was demonstrated using a gradient-doped ceramic non-planar ring oscillator (NPRO). A thermal model of the gradient-doped ceramic NPRO was built to analyze the temperature field and thermal focal length. By employing a gradient-doped gain structure, the thermal distribution within the NPRO can be effectively smoothed to reduce thermal lensing effects. Up to 2.8 W of single-frequency output power at 1064 nm from the gradient-doped ceramic NPRO was obtained, with a slope efficiency of 38%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Non‐separable states of structured light have the analogous mathematical forms with quantum entanglement, which offer an effective way to simulate quantum process. However, the classical multi‐partite non‐separable states analogue to multi‐particle entanglements can only be controlled by bulky free‐space modulation of light through coupling multiple degrees of freedom (DoFs) with orbital angular momentum (OAM) to achieve high dimensionality and other DoFs to emulate multi‐parties. In this paper, a scheme is proposed to directly emit multi‐partite non‐separable states from a simple laser cavity to mimic multi‐particle quantum entanglement. Through manipulating three DoFs as OAM, polarization, and wavevector inside a laser cavity, the eight‐dimensional (8D) tripartite states and all Greenberger‐Horne‐Zeilinger (GHZ)‐like states can be generated and controlled on demand. In addition, an effective method is proposed to perform state tomography employing convolutional neural network (CNN), for measuring the generated GHZ‐like states with highest fidelity up to 95.11%. This work reveals a feasibility of intra‐cavity manipulation of high‐dimensional multipartite non‐separable states, opening a compact device for quantum‐classical analogy and paving the path for advanced quantum scenarios.
