Purpose: Microvascular invasion (MVI) is a critical factor in predicting the recurrence and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after liver transplantation (LT). However, there is a lack of reliable preoperative predictors for MVI. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the potential of an 18F-FDG PET/CT-based nomogram in predicting MVI before LT for HCC. Methods: 83 HCC patients who obtained 18F-FDG PET/CT before LT were included in this retrospective research. To determine the parameters connected to MVI and to create a nomogram for MVI prediction, respectively, Logistic and Cox regression models were applied. Analyses of the calibration curve and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to assess the model's capability to differentiate between clinical factors and metabolic data from PET/CT images. Results: Among the 83 patients analyzed, 41% were diagnosed with histologic MVI. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that Child–Pugh stage, alpha-fetoprotein, number of tumors, CT Dmax, and Tumor-to-normal liver uptake ratio (TLR) were significant predictors of MVI. A nomogram was constructed using these predictors, which demonstrated strong calibration with a close agreement between predicted and actual MVI probabilities. The nomogram also showed excellent differentiation with an AUC of 0.965 (95% CI 0.925–1.000). Conclusion: The nomogram based on 18F-FDG PET/CT metabolic characteristics is a reliable preoperative imaging biomarker for predicting MVI in HCC patients before undergoing LT. There are many types of atmospheric heat engines in land-air systems. The accurate definition, calculation and interpretation of the efficiency of atmospheric heat engines are key to understanding energy transfer and transformation of land-air systems. The atmosphere over the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) in summer can be regarded as a positive heat engine. The study of the heat engine efficiency is helpful to better understand land-air interaction and thermal-dynamic processes on the QTP. It also provides a new perspective to explain the impact of the QTP on the climate of China, East Asia and even the world. In this paper, we used MOD08 and ERA5 reanalysis data to calculate the atmospheric heat engine efficiency, surface heat source and atmospheric heat source on the QTP in summer (May to September) from 2000 to 2020. The average atmospheric heat engine efficiency on the QTP in summer from 2000 to 2020 varies between 1.2% and 1.5%, which is less than 1.6%; the heat engine efficiency in summer is higher than that in June, July and August; the Qaidam Basin is the region with the highest atmospheric heat engine efficiency, followed by the western QTP. The mean surface heat source on the QTP in summer from 2000 to 2020 is 96.0 W m−2, the atmospheric heat source is 90.7 W m−2, and the release of precipitation condensation latent heat is the most important component of the atmospheric heat source on the QTP in summer. There is a strong and significant positive correlation between the atmospheric heat engine efficiency and the surface heat source on the QTP in summer. The precipitation con densation latent heat is the most important component of the atmospheric heat source in summer and can reflect the precipitation process. Podocyte injury plays a key role in the production of proteinuria and is closely related to the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Alleviating podocyte injury is beneficial to prevent the occurrence and development of CKD. tRNA-derived RNA fragments (tRFs) are associated with podocytes injury processes such as protein binding, cell adhesion, synapses, the actin cytoskeleton. Our previous data showed that tRF-003634 tightly correlated with podocyte injury, while its effect remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the role of tRF-003634 in podocyte injury and the potential mechanisms. The expression level of tRF-003634, nephrin, podocin and tRF-003634 targeted toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) in podocytes and kidney tissues were examined by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), western blot and immunohistochemistry. The biochemical indices were monitored and renal pathological changes were assessed by hematoxylin and eosin PAS staining. Furthermore, potential target genes of tRF-003634 were screened using high-throughput mRNA sequencing, and then confirmed by RNA pulse-chase analysis. The results showed that tRF-003634 was downregulated in adriamycin (Adr)-induced podocyte injury. Overexpression of tRF-003634 increased the expression of nephrin and podocin in vivo and in vitro and alleviated podocyte injury. Meanwhile, overexpression of tRF-003634 alleviated proteinuria and renal pathological damage. In addition, high-throughput sequencing after overexpression of tRF-003634 showed that TLR4 might be a downstream target gene. tRF-003634 can alleviate podocyte injury by reducing the stability of TLR4 mRNA, possibly by competing with TLR4 mRNA to bind to YTH domain-containing protein 1 (YTHDC1). In conclusion, tRF-003634 was underexpressed in Adr-induced podocyte injury, and its overexpression alleviated podocyte injury in vitro and in vivo by reducing the stability of TLR4 mRNA. For the first time, a novel dithiomaleimides (DTM) based tetra-antennary GalNAc conjugate was developed, which enable both efficient siRNA delivery and good traceability, without incorporating extra fluorophores. This conjugate can be readily constructed by three click-type reactions, that is, amidations, thiol-dibromomaleimide addition and copper catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC). And it also has comparable siRNA delivery efficiency, with a GalNAc L96 standard to mTTR target. Additionally, due to the internal DTMs, a highly fluorescent emission was observed, which benefited delivery tracking and reduced the cost and side effects of the extra addition of hydrophobic dye molecules. Land surface temperature(LST) is an important indicator to study climate change and test the performance of regional climate model simulation. RegCM4.6 is the representative version of regional climate model RegCM, which is coupled with advanced third-generation land surface model NCAR CLM4.5. Currently, RegCM4.6 has become an important tool to study regional climate change in China. However, its ability to simulate land surface temperature in mainland China and the reasons for its deviation have not been systematically studied, and targeted improvement work is lacking. The present study is the first to employ LST data collected from 809 Chinese meteorological stations from the last 30 years to comprehensively assess the ability of CLM4.5 to simulate LST. Sensitivity tests of soil thermal conductivity (STC) were carried out to improve the model. Although the coupled regional climate model could accurately simulate the temporal and spatial variation of LST, a cold bias of 2~8 °C existed for all of mainland China, which was larger in seasons with more precipitation and greater soil moisture than other seasons. Deviation increased from southeast to northwest. which was caused by the incoming long-wave radiation, sensible heat, and latent heat simulated. There was a significant linear relationship between the observed and simulated LSTs, with correlation coefficients for all the stations ranged from 0.75 to 0.9 (P < 0.001). The observed LST increased at a rate of 0.58 °C/decade, but the simulated LST increased at a lower rate. Assessment of three different STC schemes showed that the Lu-Ren scheme was the most suitable for LST simulation in mainland China. The underlying surface was the important media of air-lake interaction by transferring energy. The deployment of photovoltaic arrays on the lake has formed a new underlying surface type. But the new underlying surface is different from the natural lake. The impact of fishery complementary photovoltaic (FPV) power plants on the radiation, energy flux, and driving force is unclear. Therefore, the analysis of radiation, energy flux, and driving force by comparing the difference in the two sites under various synoptic conditions. The results indicated that the radiation components are not significantly different in the two sites under diverse synoptic conditions. The downward shortwave radiation (DSR) and net radiation ( R n ) were presented with one peak on a sunny day. The daily average DSR and Rn in the two sites were 279.1 W·m−2, 209.3 W·m−2, respectively. The daily average (cloudy day and rainy day) sensible heat flux in the two sites was 39.5 W·m−2 (FPV site), 19.2 W·m−2 (REF site), respectively. The latent heat flux was 53.2 W·m−2 and 75.2 W·m−2 on counterpart. The water body generally absorbs heat from the air (daily average ∆Q was 16.6 W·m−2) in the FPV site on a sunny day. The driving force of sensible heat flux in the FPV site was governed by the temperature of the FPV panel under sunny and cloudy conditions. Climate prediction is of great significance to the prevention of drought and flood. “Ground-synoptic” map is a method for short-term climate prediction. The main content of this method is “Geothermal Vortex“(GV). Therefore, some characteristics of 3.2 m soil temperature anomaly (hereinafter abbreviated as T′ 3.2 m) and GV are analyzed by using the data of monthly soil temperature at the depth of 3.2 m from 1980 to 2017 in China. Results show that there are regional differences in the frequency of positive anomaly. Overall, there are more positive anomalies in southern China and fewer in Western China. Soil temperature anomaly has good memory, the shortest being 5 months and the longest being nearly 2 years. Moreover, results show the nonuniform distribution of memory duration and decreases from northwest to southeast as a whole. Statistical analysis of GV shows that the average life cycle of each GV is 9.7 months, with an average horizontal scale of 604 km and a characteristic scale of 2.4 cm/s. Spatially, the GV scale is largest in Northwest, with a horizontal scale of 1087 km, and the GV appear most frequently in North China. The central location of GV is uneven, mainly in the central area with strong crustal activity and large absolute vertical deformation rate or in the high value area of soil heat flow. There has been much debate on whether color categories affect how we perceive color. Recent theories have put emphasis on the role of top-down influence on color perception that the original continuous color space in the visual cortex may be transformed into categorical encoding due to top-down modulation. To test the influence of color categories on color perception, we adopted an RSVP paradigm, where color stimuli were presented at a fast speed of 100 ms per stimulus and were forward and backward masked by the preceding and following stimuli. Moreover, no explicit color naming or categorization was required. In theory, backward masking with such a short interval in a passive viewing task should constrain top-down influence from higher-level brain areas. To measure any potentially subtle differences in brain response elicited by different color categories, we embedded a sensitive frequency-tagging-based EEG paradigm within the RSVP stimuli stream where the oddball color stimuli were encoded with a different frequency from the base color stimuli. We showed that EEG responses to cross-category oddball colors at the frequency where the oddball stimuli were presented was significantly larger than the responses to within-category oddball colors. Solar energy plays an essential role in achieving carbon goals and mitigating climate change. Therefore, solar power plants are rapidly developing in the renewable energy sector. However, many reports of solar power plants are on land, and extremely limited observational research has been conducted on the impacts of fishery complementary photovoltaic power plants (FPVs) on near-surface meteorology and surface energy. This study selected two adjacent eddy covariance observational towers at the fishery complementary photovoltaic power plant (FPV) in Yangzhong, Jiangsu Province, China, to explore this topic. The results indicated that the percent frequency of east wind (<4 m s−1) at 2 m decreased by 25.3% in the FPV site compared with the reference site. The FPV array has not an obvious heating effect on the ambient environment. The average air temperature difference in the two sites at 2 m and 10 m was 0.3 K and 0.1 K, respectively, during the heating period. The net radiation increased by 47.8 W m−2 in the two sites. The sensible heat increased by 7.9 W m−2 due to the heating effect. The latent heat in the two sites is contrary to the sensible heat (−13.0 W m−2). The difference in the water storage heat is 32.18 W m−2, which implies that the water absorbs higher heat in the FPV site than in the reference site. This work illustrated the importance of observational experiments to animate process-based understanding combined with FPV systems and provides a scientific basis for establishing FPV energy balance models based on observations that may be used to reveal the impact of utility-scale FPV deployment on climatic effects. Highly efficient synthesis of valuable γ-valerolactone (GVL) by levulinic acid (LA) hydrogenation is of interest for biomass refinery, but it suffers from great challenge to design highly active Ru-based catalyst at low temperature. ZIF-8 derived ZnO@NC nanocomposite can firmly anchor Ru nanoparticles to create strong Ru-ZnO interfacial structure, as revealed by characterization techniques and DFT calculations. By optimizing Ru content and ZnO particle size, Ru/ZnO@NC achieved excellent reaction activity with a turnover frequency (TOF) of 6032 h−1 at low temperature of 40 °C, which is never reported before. After etching the accessible ZnO, the TOF value was significantly declined to 125 h−1 on Ru/ZnO@NC-HF owing to the lack of effective Ru-ZnO interface. DFT calculation results demonstrate that the Ru-ZnO interfacial structure can facilitate the activation of intermediate CH 3 CHOCH 2 CH 2 COOH* and remarkably decline the activation energy barrier of rate-determining step (CH 3 CHOCH 2 CH 2 COOH + H = HPA) from 1.28 eV to 0.82 eV, thus leading to excellent activity of LA hydrogenation at low temperature. It is well accepted that tidal wetland vegetation performs a significant amount of water filtration for wetlands. However, there is currently little information on how various wetland plants remove nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) and how they differ in their denitrification processes. This study compared and investigated the denitrification and phosphorus removal effects of three typical wetland plants in the Yangtze River estuary wetland (Phragmites australis , Spartina alterniflora , and Scirpus mariqueter), as well as their relevant mechanisms, using an experimental laboratory-scale horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetland (CW). The results showed that all treatment groups with plants significantly reduced N pollutants as compared to the control group without plants. In comparison to S. mariqueter (77.2–83.2%), S. alterniflora and P. australis had a similar total nitrogen (TN)removal effectiveness of nearly 95%. With a removal effectiveness of over 99% for ammonium nitrogen (NH 4 +-N), P. australis outperformed S. alterniflora (95.6–96.8%) and S. mariqueter (94.6–96.5%). The removal of nitrite nitrogen (NO 2 −-N)and nitrate nitrogen (NO 3 −-N)from wastewater was significantly enhanced by S. alterniflora compared to the other treatment groups. Across all treatment groups, the removal rate of PO 4 3--P was greater than 95%. P. australis and S. alterniflora considerably enriched more 15N than S. mariqueter , according to the results of the 15N isotope labeling experiment. While the rhizosphere and bulk sediments of S. alterniflora were enriched with more simultaneous desulfurization-denitrification bacterial genera (such as Paracoccus , Sulfurovum , and Sulfurimonas), which have denitrification functions, the rhizosphere and bulk sediments of P. australis were enriched with more ammonia-oxidizing archaea and ammonia-oxidizing bacteria. As a result, compared to the other plants, P. australis and S. alterniflora demonstrate substantially more significant ability to remove NH 4 +-N and NO 2 −-N/NO 3 −-N from simulated domestic wastewater. Rapid progress of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology has caused growing interest in understanding interactions between large scale PV plants and near-surface atmosphere. However few attempts have been made to quantify the impact of PV modules on surface radiative forcing and energy partitioning process. Here, this issue is explored experimentally and analytically in the two adjacent sites located at the PV plant and the natural barren field respectively in Wujiaqu in Xinjiang of China. The results showed that the physical effect of PV panels is not symmetrical in the whole day. During the daytime, compared with the reference site, net shortwave radiative forcing increases 8%, a warming effect on the integrated underlying surface (0.1 K) and a cooling effect (∼-2.6 K) on the ground surface were found in the PV plant. 9.2% of the net radiation (NR) was converted into electric energy (PE), sensible heat flux (H) increased by 30.6% hence resulted in the convection heating effects of 0.64 K and 0.32 K on the near-surface air temperature at the height of 2 m and 10 m respectively, while latent heat flux (LE) and ground surface heat flux (GS) decreased by 49% and 3% respectively related to the reference site. At night, PV panels produce a cooling effect of −0.2 K and −2.3 K on the ground and integrated underlying surface respectively, and less GS is released in the PV plant which contribute to the cooling effects of −0.24 K and −0.08 K on the air temperature at the height of 2 m and 10 m respectively related to the reference site. In the whole day, in the PV plant, H increased by 27.6%, LE and GS decreased by 47.4% and 6.7% respectively, air temperature increased by 0.16 K and 0.1 K at 2 m and 10 m respectively. • The physical effect of PV modules is not symmetrical in the whole day. • Net shortwave radiative forcing induced by PV modules increases 7.2%. • Sensible heat increases 34.4% and latent heat decreased 20.9% in PV plant related to reference site. • Ground surface heat decreases 7.4%. • The reasons of physical effect of PV modules were explained. Highly efficient conversion of carboxylic acids to valuable alcohols is a great challenge for easily corroded non-noble metal catalysts. Here, a series of few-layer graphene encapsulated metastable hexagonal closed-packed (hcp) Co nanoparticles were fabricated by reductive pyrolysis of metal-organic framework precursor. The sample pyrolyzed at 400 °C (hcp-Co@G400) presented outstanding performance and stability for converting a variety of functional carboxylic acids and its turnover frequency was one magnitude higher than that of conventional facc-centered cubic (fcc) Co catalysts. In situ DRIFTS spectroscopy of model reaction acetic acid hydrogenation and DFT calculation results confirm that carboxylic acid initially undergoes dehydroxylation to RCH 2 CO* followed by consecutive hydrogenation to RCH 2 CH 2 OH through RCH 2 COH*. Acetic acid prefers to vertically adsorb at hcp-Co (0 0 2) facet with a much lower adsorption energy than parallel adsorption at fcc-Co (1 1 1) surface, which plays a key role in decreasing the activation barrier of the rate-determining step of acetic acid dehydroxylation. Acquiring events massively from single-molecule force spectroscopy (SMFS) experiments, which is crucial for revealing important biophysical information, is usually not straightforward. A significant amount of human labor is usually required to identify events in the measured force spectrum during measuring or before performing further data analysis. This prevents the experiment from being done in a fully-automated manner or scaling with the throughput of the measuring setup. In this work, we attempt to tackle this problem with a deep learning approach. A deep neural network model is developed to infer the occurrence of the events using the data stream from the measuring setup. We demonstrated that the proposed method could achieve high accuracy with force spectrums of a variety of samples from both optical tweezers and AFMs by learning from user-given samples instead of complicated manual algorithm designing or parameter tuning. Furthermore, we found that the trained model can be used to perform event detection on datasets measured from a different optical tweezer setup, showing the potential of being leveraged in more complex deep learning schemes. • This work proposed a user-friendly approach to massively locate the events of interest from experimental SMFS data streams. • To our best knowledge, this work is the first attempt to adopt deep learning methods to locate events in SMFS experiments. • It is demonstrated that the proposed method could learn to locate events for a variety of samples from different instruments including optical tweezers and AFMs. • This method could help to achieve automated measuring on SMFS high-throughput platforms or other deep-learning based SMFS signal analysis. Developing angular trapping methods, which enable optical tweezers to rotate a micronsized bead, is of great importance for studies of biomacromolecules in a wide range of torque‐generation processes. Here a novel controlled angular trapping method based on model composite Janus particles is reported, which consist of two hemispheres made of polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate). Through computational and experimental studies, the feasibility to control the rotation of a Janus particle in a linearly polarized laser trap is demonstrated. The results show that the Janus particle aligned its two hemispheres interface parallel to the laser propagation direction and polarization direction. The rotational state of the particle can be directly visualized by using a camera. The rotation of the Janus particle in the laser trap can be fully controlled in real time by controlling the laser polarization direction. The newly developed angular trapping technique has the great advantage of easy implementation and real‐time controllability. Considering the easy chemical preparation of Janus particles and implementation of the angular trapping, this novel method has the potential of becoming a general angular trapping method. Three Ru/CeO 2 catalysts with different CeO 2 morphology (nanorod, nanocube and nano-octahedra) mainly exposed (1 1 0) + (1 0 0), (1 0 0) and (1 1 1) facets for hydrogenation of biomass-derived ethyl levulinate (EL) to valuable γ-valerolactone (GVL). Ru/CeO 2 -rod with exposed (1 1 0) crystal plane obtained the highest GVL yield (99.4%) and best productivity (13140 h−1). The surface facets of CeO 2 supports not only affect the chemical states of Ru species but also tune the concentration of oxygen vacancy in Ru-CeO 2 interface. The concentration of oxygen vacancy shows a linear relationship with GVL production rate. DFT calculations indicate that the lactonization of CH 3 CHOCH 2 CH 2 CO* to produce GVL is the rate-determining step in EL hydrogenation, and Ru 10 /CeO 2 (1 1 0) with more oxygen vacancy has low activation energy barrier, compared to Ru 10 /CeO 2 (1 0 0) and Ru 10 /CeO 2 (1 1 1). Soil temperature is an important variable of earth's surface system, and studying it is of great benefit to understanding the energy and hydrological cycles and climate change. Based on soil temperature data at a depth of 3.2 m from 113 stations in China from 1980 to 2017, the spatial distribution and temporal variation of the soil temperatures in China were analyzed by using a fuzzy C-means algorithm (FCM), linear fitting and the Mann–Kendall method. The results show that the average annual soil temperature at 3.2 m in China gradually increased from north to south, with the lowest temperatures in the northeast and Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau ( T 3.2 m ≤ 5 ∘ C ) and the highest in South China ( T 3.2 m ≥ 25 ∘ C ). The country is divided into 10 regions using the FCM method. The soil temperature anomalies show a continuous increase over time, but there are significant regional differences in the warming speeds. The northeast and northwest regions exhibit the largest temperature increases, approximately 0.57 ° C / 10 a , North China has the second highest increases, with approximately 0.36 ° C / 10 a , and the values in other areas are less than 0.3 ° C / 10 a . Over the 38-year period, the soil temperature increased by approximately 1.4 ° C , and the temperature increase mainly occurred during the last 20 years. Helping children recognize the distress of their victims and feel sympathy may facilitate the optimal socialization of ethical guilt. With a sample of 150 eight‐year‐olds, we tested the main and interactive relations of distress recognition and sympathy to ethical guilt after hypothetically stealing and pushing. Better fear recognition and higher sympathy were uniquely associated with higher ethical guilt. The link between fear recognition and ethical guilt was stronger in children with higher sympathy. Beyond their unique contributions, distress recognition and sympathy may work in concert to facilitate ethical guilt after harming others. Although transplantation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) has shown beneficial effects on stroke, lower survival of MSCs limits effects. Extracellular regulating kinase 1/2 signaling (ERK1/2) is crucial for cell survival, differentiation, and proliferation. This study was designed to explore whether MSCs modified by over-expressing ERK1/2 may reinforce beneficial effects on stroke in rats. rat MSCs transfected with ERK1/2 and empty lentivirus to generate MSCs overexpressing ERK1/2 (ERK/MSCs) and MSCs (as a control), respectively. In vitro , ERK/MSCs were plated and exposed to glutamate-induced condition, and viability of ERK/MSCs was measured. Furthermore, neural induction of ERK/MSCs was investigated in vitro. Cerebral ischemic rats were induced by occluding middle cerebral artery, and then were stereotaxically injected into ipsilateral right lateral ventricle with ERK/MSCs or MSCs 3 days after stroke and survived for 7 or 14 days after injection. ERK/MSCs showed better viability in physiological and glutamate-induced neurotoxic conditions compared to MSCs. After neural induction, more neurons were be differentiated from ERK/MSCs than from MSCs. After transplantation, more numbers of grafted cells and improved functional recovery were observed in ERK/MSCs-treated rats compared with MSCs-treated rats. Compared with MSCs treatment, ERK/MSCs treatment significantly increased proliferation of neural stem cells in the subventricle zone (SVZ) and the MAP2/nestin double-labeled cells adjacent to the SVZ, enhanced the numbers of reactive astrocytes while suppressed microglial activation. Besides, TNF-α level was elevated in ERK/MSCs-treated rats. This paper has conducted a contrastive study on the AIRS retrieval results and the observational data of methane concentration at Mt. Waliguan atmospheric background station, and has analyzed the distribution characteristics of atmospheric methane concentration over the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau from 2003 to 2015. The results show that the AIRS retrieval data display the same monthly, annual, and seasonal variation trend, as well as segmental variation characteristics. The methane concentration features high in the north and low in the south along with the geographical line of Kunlun Mountains–Tanggula Mountains–Hengduan Mountains, and decreases significantly as the altitude rises, with the highest and the most sensitive variability in the south central region of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. From 2003 to 2015, the methane concentration in the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau continued to rise, with the fastest growth in autumn, the slowest in winter, and an annual growth rate of 5.2 nmol mol−1 a−1, while the growth rate from 2013 to 2015 was lower than the global average. The seasonal variation showed a unimodal curve, with the highest value in summer and the lowest value in spring, and with the altitude rising, the seasonal variation was more significant. For the hydrogenolysis of C O bond model compound with formic acid, Au 1 Pd 1 /CeO 2 showed about 23.5 and 6 folds increase in activity compared with its monometallic counterparts Au/CeO 2 and Pd/CeO 2 , respectively. The outstanding performance was mainly ascribed to the increased adsorption ability of electron-deficient Pd for aromatic C–O bond. Finding an approach for pretreatment of radionuclides from contaminated water are interesting topics of research. In present work, the ZSM-5 molecular sieve was characterized with different techniques such as zeta potential, SEM, FT-IR and XRD to clarify the surface properties of sample and applied as a sorbent to concentrate and recover Cs(I) from aqueous solution. The effect of environmental conditions such as contact time, ionic strength, content of sorbent and solution pH on Cs(I) uptake were optimized using batch techniques. Different kinetic and isotherm models were utilized to evaluate the experimental data and the correlation parameters were obtained. Based on the sorption/desorption experiment, it can be deduced that the ZSM-5 molecular sieve has potential application for the rapid and quantitative recovery of radiocesium from wastewater. Defining the neural basis of perceptual categorization in a rapidly changing natural environment with low-temporal resolution methods such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is challenging. Here, we present a novel fast periodic stimulation (FPS)-fMRI approach to define face-selective brain regions with natural images. Human observers are presented with a dynamic stream of widely variable natural object images alternating at a fast rate (6 images/s). Every 9 s, a short burst of variable face images contrasting with object images in pairs induces an objective face-selective neural response at 0.111 Hz. A model-free Fourier analysis achieves a twofold increase in signal-to-noise ratio compared to a conventional block-design approach with identical stimuli and scanning duration, allowing to derive a comprehensive map of face-selective areas in the ventral occipito-temporal cortex, including the anterior temporal lobe (ATL), in all individual brains. Critically, periodicity of the desired category contrast and random variability among widely diverse images effectively eliminates the contribution of low-level visual cues, and lead to the highest values (80-90%) of test-retest reliability in the spatial activation map yet reported in imaging higher level visual functions. The effect of pH, contact time, temperature, ionic strength and initial U(VI) concentration on U(VI) sorption onto K-feldspar was investigated using batch techniques. The sorption kinetics was evaluated and the activation energy was obtained based on the rate constants at different temperature. Graphical correlations of sorption isotherm models have been evaluated and applied for U(VI) uptake by K-feldspar. Various thermodynamic parameters, such as, Gibb's free energy, entropy and enthalpy of the on-going sorption process have been calculated and the possible sorption mechanism of U(VI) was deduced. Background Skin photodamage is associated with UV-induced overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the inactivation of NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2). Skin-derived precursor cells (SKPs), a population of dermal stem cells, are considered to be involved in wound repair and skin regeneration through the activation of Nrf2. However, no reports concentrate on the treatment of skin photodamage with SKPs. Objective To investigate the photoprotective role of SKPs against UV-induced damage in mice. Methods Fifty Balb/c hairless mice were divided into five groups (n = 10), namely, normal (no intervention), model, prevention, treatment, and control groups. The latter four groups were dorsally exposed to UVA + UVB irradiation over a 2-week period. Mice in the prevention group received weekly SKP injections for 2 weeks the day before irradiation. Mice in the treatment and Hanks groups received a two-time injection of SKPs and Hanks, respectively, after irradiation. One week after final intervention, skin appearance, pathological alterations, and oxidative indicators were evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, immunohistochemical analysis, and western blotting. Results After irradiation, lesions were observed on the dorsal skin of mice, including erythema, edema, scales, and wrinkles; however, these were significantly ameliorated by subcutaneous SKP injection. Hyperkeratosis, acanthosis, and spongiosis in the epidermis, as well as dermal papillae edema and inflammatory cell infiltration, were observed in both model and control groups; however, these conditions resolved with either pretreatment or posttreatment with SKPs. In addition, SKPs increased Nrf2, heme oxygenase-1, glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, catalase, and gluthathione expression, while decreasing levels of ROS, MDA, and H 2 O 2 . Conclusions These findings suggest that SKPs have a photoprotective role against UV-induced damage in mice, which may be associated with their ability to scavenge photo-oxidative insults and activate Nrf2. In the current research, we sought to examine the role of spatial frequency on the detection of threat using a speeded visual search paradigm. Participants searched for threat-relevant (snakes or spiders) or non-threat-relevant (frogs or cockroaches) targets in an array of neutral (flowers or mushrooms) distracters, and we measured search performance with images filtered to contain different levels (high and low) of spatial frequency information. The results replicate previous work demonstrating more rapid detection of threatening versus non-threatening stimuli [e.g. LoBue, V. & DeLoache, J. S. (2008). Large-scale solar power plants are rapidly increasing in size and number across the world. However, the surface heat balance is altered when a photovoltaic (PV) power plant is operating. Modifications to the surface albedo through the deployment of photovoltaic arrays have the potential to change radiative forcing, surface temperatures and local weather patterns. In this work, the field observation data from a large solar farm and a region without PV array in Golmud are used to study the impact of large solar farms in desert areas on the local meteorology. The results show that the total daily values of upward shortwave radiation and net radiation in the two sites are significantly different. The mean daily albedo in the solar farm is 0.19, while it is 0.26 in the region without PV. The annual mean net radiation in the solar farm is evidently higher than that of the region without PV. The daily range of soil temperatures at a depth of 5–10 cm in the solar farm is lower than that in the region without a PV farm. The annual range of soil temperatures at a depth of 5–180 cm in the solar farm is higher than that in the region without PV. The soil temperatures at different depths in winter in the solar farm are clearly lower than those in the region without PV. The daily mean of soil temperatures at a depth of 5–80 cm from October 2012 to March 2013 is clearly lower than that in the region without a PV array. The 2-m daytime air temperature in the two sites is essentially the same during winter, while during the other seasons, the daytime air temperature in the PV farm is higher than that in the region without PV, with the maximum difference appearing during the summer. The nighttime air temperatures at a height of 2 m during the four seasons in the solar farm are higher than those in the region without PV. The current study used computer vision technology to examine the nonverbal facial expressions of children (6–11 years old) telling antisocial and prosocial lies. Children in the antisocial lying group completed a temptation resistance paradigm where they were asked not to peek at a gift being wrapped for them. All children peeked at the gift and subsequently lied about their behavior. Children in the prosocial lying group were given an undesirable gift and asked if they liked it. All children lied about liking the gift. Nonverbal behavior was analyzed using the Computer Expression Recognition Toolbox (CERT), which employs the Facial Action Coding System (FACS), to automatically code children’s facial expressions while lying. Using CERT, children’s facial expressions during antisocial and prosocial lying were accurately and reliably differentiated significantly above chance-level accuracy. The basic expressions of emotion that distinguished antisocial lies from prosocial lies were joy and contempt. Children expressed joy more in prosocial lying than in antisocial lying. Girls showed more joy and less contempt compared with boys when they told prosocial lies. Boys showed more contempt when they told prosocial lies than when they told antisocial lies. The key action units (AUs) that differentiate children’s antisocial and prosocial lies are blink/eye closure, lip pucker, and lip raise on the right side. Together, these findings indicate that children’s facial expressions differ while telling antisocial versus prosocial lies. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease in the CNS. The current immunomodulating drugs for MS do not effectively prevent the progressive neurological decline. Neural stem cells (NSCs) transplantation has been proven to promote repair and functional recovery of experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE) animal model for MS, and glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) has also been found to have capability of promoting axonal regeneration and remyelination of regenerating axons. In the present study, to assess whether GDNF would enhance therapeutic effect of NSCs for EAE, GDNF gene-modified NSCs (GDNF/NSCs) and native NSCs were transplanted into each lateral ventricle of rats at 10 days and rats were sacrificed at 60 days after EAE immunization. We found that NSCs significantly reduced the clinical signs, and GDNF gene-modification further promoted functional recovery. GDNF/NSCs more profoundly suppressed brain inflammation and improved density of myelin compared with NSCs. The survival of GDNF/NSCs was significantly higher than that of transplanted NSCs. Transplanted GDNF/NSCs, in contrast to NSCs, differentiated into more neurons and oligodendrocytes. Moreover, the mRNA expression of oligodendrocyte lineage cells in rats with GDNF/NSCs was significantly increased compared to rats with NSCs. The selective hydrogenolysis of sugar alcohols is a promising means to produce valuable products from renewable biomass resources. The previous Cu-based catalysts generally suffer from low activity and/or poor stability. We report the design and fabrication of a tailored mesoporous copper/ceria catalyst by a one-step solid-state grinding-assisted nanocasting method. This new catalyst truly replicated the morphology and mesoporous structure of the silica template such as SBA-15 and KIT-6. The characterization techniques strongly reflected that Cu2+ was successfully substituted into the CeO2 lattice and Cu nanoparticles were homogenously dispersed in the nanocomposite. This copper/ceria catalyst was highly active (TOF 4.8 h−1) and stable for 300 h in the hydrogenolysis of glycerol to 1,2-propanediol. WO 3 nanorod bundles were prepared via a facile hydrothermal method with Na 2 SO 4 as structure directing agent. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electronic microscopy (TEM) images indicate that the WO 3 nanorod bundles consist of hierarchically nanostructured bundles assembled with smaller nanorod subunits. Furthermore, the gas-sensing properties of the as-prepared WO 3 were tested to a series of organic gases. The WO 3 nanorod bundles display a significantly better sensing performance (100 ppm formic acid, R a / R g = 51.3) than commercial WO 3 (100 ppm formic acid, R a / R g = 1.8) for the detection of formic acid. The present study investigates whether transplantation of NSCs treated with T3 alone (T3/NSCs), or in conjunction with GDNF gene (GDNF-T3/NSCs), provides a better therapeutic effect than NSCs for chronic EAE. EAE rats were, respectively, injected with NSCs, T3/NSCs, GDNF-T3/NSCs, and saline at 10 days and sacrificed at 60 days after EAE immunization. The three cell grafted groups showed a significant reduction in clinical scores, inflammatory infiltration, and demyelination compared with the saline-injected group, and among the cell grafted groups, the reduction in GDNF-T3/NSCs group was the most notable, followed by T3/NSCs group. Grafted T3/NSCs and GDNF-T3/NSCs acquired more MAP2, GalC, and less GFAP in brain compared with grafted NSCs, and grafted GDNF-T3/NSCs acquired most MAP2 and least GalC among the cell grafted groups. Furthermore, T3/NSCs and GDNF-T3/NSCs grafting increased the expression of mRNA for PDGFαR, GalC, and MBP in lesion areas of brain compared with NSCs grafting, and the expression of mRNA for GalC and MBP in GDNF-T3/NSCs group was higher than that in T3/NSCs group. Human adults implicitly learn the prototype and the principal components of the variability distinguishing faces (Gao & Wilson, 2014). Here we measured the implicit learning effect in adults and 9-year-olds, and with a modified child-friendly procedure, in 7-year-olds. All age groups showed the implicit learning effect by falsely recognizing the average (the prototype effect) and the principal component faces as having been seen (the PCA learning effect). The PCA learning effect, but not the prototype effect increased between 9 years of age and adulthood and at both ages was the better predictor of memory for the actually studied faces. In contrast, for the 7-year-olds, the better predictor of face memory was the prototype effect. The pattern suggests that there may be a developmental change between ages 7 and 9 in the mechanism underlying memory for faces. We provide the first evidence that children as young as age 7 can extract the most important dimensions of variation represented by principal components among individual faces, a key ability that grows stronger with age and comes to underlie memory for faces. The global warming effect has been accelerating rapidly and poses a threat to human survival and health. The top priority to solve this problem is to provide reliable renewable energy. To achieve this goal, it is important to provide fast and accurate solar radiation predictions based on limited observation data. In this study, a fast and accurate solar radiation nowcasting method is proposed by combining FY-4A satellite data and the McClear clear sky model under the condition of only radiation observation. The results show that the random forest (RF) performed better than the support vector regression (SVR) model and the reference model (Clim-Pers), with the smallest normalized root mean square error (nRMSE) values (between 13.90% and 33.80%), smallest normalized mean absolute error (nMAE) values (between 7.50% and 24.77%), smallest normalized mean bias error (nMBE) values (between −1.17% and 0.7%) and highest R2 values (between 0.76 and 0.95) under different time horizons. In addition, it can be summarized that remote sensing data can significantly improve the radiation forecasting performance and can effectively guarantee the stability of radiation predictions when the time horizon exceeds 60 min. Furthermore, to obtain the optimal operation efficiency, the prediction results were interpreted by introducing the latest SHapley Additive exPlanation (SHAP) method. From the interpretation results, we selected the three key channels of an FY-4A and then made the model lightweight. Compared with the original input model, the new one predicted the results more rapidly. For instance, the lightweight parameter input model needed only 0.3084 s (compared to 0.5591 s for full parameter input) per single data point on average for the 10 min global solar radiation forecast in Yuzhong. Meanwhile, the prediction effect also remained stable and reliable. Overall, the new method showed its advantages in radiation prediction under the condition that only solar radiation observations were available. This is very important for radiation prediction in cities with scarce meteorological observation, and it can provide a reference for the location planning of photovoltaic power stations. Graphene oxide (GO) has proved to be a highly active and reusable solid acid catalyst for glycerol esterification with acetic acid in the synthesis of bioadditives diacylglycerol (DAG) and triacylglycerol (TAG). The effects of reaction temperature, molar ratio of acetic acid to glycerol, catalyst amount and reaction time were investigated. A 90.2% combined selectivity of DAG and TAG with complete glycerol conversion was achieved at 120 °C for 6 h over GO. Despite 1,3-propanediol possessing high economic value, its production from glycerol hydrogenolysis is a challenging task. Herein, a series of WO x promoted Pt/Al 2 O 3 catalysts with various WO x contents were prepared and investigated for selective production 1,3-propanediol from glycerol hydrogenolysis. To explore the structure feature, these catalysts were fully characterized by BET, CO chemisorption, HRTEM, XRD ( in situ XRD), Raman, NH 3 –TPD, Py–IR, H 2 –TPR, and XPS. Among them, Pt–10WO x /Al 2 O 3 achieved the highest 1,3-propanediol yield up to 42.4%, which was ascribed to the large concentration of Brønsted acid sites, strong electronic interaction between Pt with WO x and hydrogen spillover. The strong correlation between 1,3-propanediol yield and Brønsted acid site indicated its essential role for the formation of 1,3-propanediol. Abstract: Flower-like ZnO microstructures have been fabricated by a facile microwave hydrothermal method (HM) with the aid of benzoic acid. The obtained products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The morphology gradually evolved from flower bud shape to fireworks display with increase of alkalinity in the presence of benzoic acid. The formation mechanism of the flower-like ZnO microstructures was investigated briefly. Furthermore, the gas response of the flower-like ZnO microstructures has been studied to a series of organic vapors. It was found that the gas sensing properties were influenced by the size of the ZnO microstructures. The facile preparation method and the improved gas-sensing properties derived from the flower-like ZnO microstructures demonstrated their potential applications in gas sensor. Abstract: Functional neural imaging studies have identified a network of brain areas that are more active to faces than to other objects. However, it remains largely unclear how these areas encode individual facial identity. To investigate the neural representations of facial identity, we constructed a multidimensional face space structure, whose dimensions were derived from geometric information of faces using the Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Using fMRI, we recorded participants' neural responses when viewing blocks of faces that differed only on one dimension within a block. Although the response magnitudes to different blocks of faces did not differ in a univariate analysis, multi-voxel pattern analysis revealed distinct patterns related to different face space dimensions in brain areas that have a higher response magnitude to faces than to other objects. The results indicate that dimensions of the face space are encoded in the face-selective brain areas in a spatially distributed way. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

A new ceramic–carbon nanostructured hybrid (86vol.% ceramics, 14vol.% carbon) formed from organoclay during pyrolysis is reported. It functions as a reinforcing filler and a binder for carbon/carbon (C/C) composites. Alone, it can also serve as a high-temperature structural monolith. During pyrolysis, the ordered montmorillonite clay (d 001 31.5Å) is transformed to mullite, cristobalite and disordered clay, allowing the clay part of the organoclay to serve as both binder and reinforcement. The organic part serves as a binder. Thus, a unidirectional C/C composite (50vol.% fibers, 33vol.% carbon matrix, 5vol.% hybrid and 12% porosity) exhibiting flexural strength 290MPa, modulus 55GPa and toughness 2.9MPa is obtained by 1000°C 21-MPa hot-press pyrolysis in the presence of mesophase pitch powder, which serves as an additional binder, without densification after the pyrolysis. With the hybrid incorporation, the fiber content decreases from 53 to 50vol.%, but the flexural strength and modulus are increased by 46% and 14% respectively, relative to the composite without the hybrid but with densification. Hot pressing the organoclay alone forms a black monolithic sheet with high thermal stability, electrical resistivity 6×106 Ωcm, flexural strength 180MPa, modulus 69GPa, but low ductility. Abstract: In this paper, triclinic WO3 nanoplates with prominent cyclohexene sensing and photocatalytic properties were fabricated via a facile hydrothermal method assisted with p-aminobenzoic acid. The as-prepared product was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). XRD, SEM and TEM images illustrated that the WO3 nanoplates have a triclinic phase with the length of 100–200nm and the thickness of 50–80nm. The gas sensing properties of the WO3 nanoplates were measured by detection of methanol, ethanol, cyclohexane, benzene, ethyl acetate and acetone at 160–300°C, and their photocatalytic activities were investigated by the degradation of methyl blue (MB). The as-prepared product exhibited not only excellent photocatalytic property for the degradation of MB, but also high response (1000ppm of cyclohexene, R a /R g =140) and excellent selectivity for the detection of cyclohexene. Abstract: Deception is commonly seen in everyday social interactions. However, most of the knowledge about the underlying neural mechanism of deception comes from studies where participants were instructed when and how to lie. To study spontaneous deception, we designed a guessing game modeled after Greene and Paxton (2009) “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 106(30), 12506–12511”, in which lying is the only way to achieve the performance level needed to end the game. We recorded neural responses during the game using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). We found that when compared to truth-telling, spontaneous deception, like instructed deception, engenders greater involvement of such prefrontal regions as the left superior frontal gyrus. We also found that the correct-truth trials produced greater neural activities in the left middle frontal gyrus and right superior frontal gyrus than the incorrect-truth trials, suggesting the involvement of the reward system. Furthermore, the present study confirmed the feasibility of using NIRS to study spontaneous deception. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
