Background: The ethical challenges faced by physicians when patients or their families refuse medical interventions are particularly complex in geriatric care. This manuscript explores the delicate balance between professional recommendations and patient autonomy, focusing on the nuanced decisions surrounding enteral nutrition in older patients. Methods: Two case studies are presented: a 99-year-old woman with a history of hypertension, diabetes, and coronary heart disease, and an 82-year-old man with Alzheimer’s disease. Both cases involve the recommendation of a nasogastric tube for enteral nutrition, and the subsequent patient and family responses to this intervention. Results: In the first case, the patient and her family initially refused the tube due to personal beliefs and financial concerns, leading to a focus on psychological support and symptom management. The patient eventually agreed to the tube, but tragically passed away shortly after. In contrast, the second case resulted in the patient’s family agreeing to the tube after a thorough discussion, leading to a successful recovery and the patient’s ability to eat orally 6 months later. Conclusions: The cases underscore the importance of patient-centered care, clear communication, and empathy in geriatric medicine. They highlight the need for healthcare providers to respect patient autonomy, be aware of their own biases, and engage in open dialogue with patients and families. The manuscript advocates for a nuanced approach to medical ethics, where the patient’s journey is guided with respect and care, honoring their wishes while striving for the best possible outcomes.

Objective. This study aims to investigate compliance and the influencing factors related to pediatric tuberculosis patients who are undergoing treatment with anti-tuberculosis drugs in the Sichuan Province of China. Methods. A questionnaire survey was conducted between March 2019 and March 2021. The survey was distributed to caregivers of children aged 0 to 14 who had been diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis. These children had been receiving oral anti-tuberculosis drug treatment for more than 1 month. The survey was administered at the pediatric infection departments of West China Second University Hospital, Sichuan University, and The First People’s Hospital of Ganzi Prefecture. Results. The study revealed a notable lack of medication adherence among the pediatric patients. Through multiple linear regression analysis, it was determined that several factors played a role in influencing medication adherence among children with tuberculosis. These factors include the educational level of the parents, the frequency of daily anti-tuberculosis drug prescriptions, and the parents’ comprehension of the disease. Summary: Background: High-level exposure to indoor air pollutants (IAPs) and their corresponding adverse health effects have become a public concern in China in the past 10 years. However, neither national nor provincial level burden of disease attributable to multiple IAPs has been reported for China. This is the first study to estimate and rank the annual burden of disease and the financial costs attributable to targeted residential IAPs at the national and provincial level in China from 2000 to 2017. Methods: We first did a systematic review and meta-analysis of 117 articles from 37 231 articles identified in major databases, and obtained exposure–response relationships for the candidate IAPs. The exposure levels to these IAPs were then collected by another systematic review of 1864 articles selected from 52 351 articles. After the systematic review, ten IAPs with significant and robust exposure–response relationships and sufficient exposure data were finally targeted: PM2·5, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, ozone, carbon monoxide, radon, formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, and p-dichlorobenzene. The annual exposure levels in residences were then evaluated in all 31 provinces in mainland China continuously from 2000 to 2017, using the spatiotemporal Gaussian process regression model to analyse indoor originating IAPs, and the infiltration factor method to analyse outdoor originating IAPs. The disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) attributable to the targeted IAPs were estimated at both national and provincial levels in China, using the population attributable fraction method. Financial costs were estimated by an adapted human capital approach. Findings: From 2000 to 2017, annual DALYs attributable to the ten IAPs in mainland China decreased from 4620 (95% CI 4070–5040) to 3700 (3210–4090) per 100 000. Nevertheless, in 2017, IAPs still ranked third among all risk factors, and their DALYs and financial costs accounted for 14·1% (95% CI 12·3–15·6) of total DALYs and 3·45% (3·01–3·82) of the gross domestic product. Specifically, the rank of ten targeted IAPs in order of their contribution to DALYs in 2017 was PM2·5, carbon monoxide, radon, benzene, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, sulphur dioxide, formaldehyde, toluene, and p-dichlorobenzene. The DALYs attributable to IAPs were 9·50% higher than those attributable to outdoor air pollution in 2017. For the leading IAP, PM2·5, the DALYs attributable to indoor origins are 18·3% higher than those of outdoor origins. Interpretation: DALYs attributed to IAPs in China have decreased by 20·0% over the past two decades. Even so, they are still much higher than those in the USA and European countries. This study can provide a basis for determining which IAPs to target in various indoor air quality standards and for estimating the health and economic benefits of various indoor air quality control approaches, which will help to reduce the adverse health effects of IAPs in China. Introduction Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly aggressive malignancy with a poor response to chemotherapy and an extremely poor prognosis. Recent studies have revealed that phospholysine phosphohistidine inorganic pyrophosphate phosphatase (LHPP) can inhibit the growth of various cancers. Therefore, the current study was conducted to investigate the antitumor effects of LHPP in PDAC and to explore its mechanism using proteomics analysis. Methods and Results Immunohistochemical analysis of clinical samples demonstrated that LHPP expression levels were lower in tumor tissues compared to adjacent nontumor tissues. Moreover, multivariate COX regression analysis showed that LHPP expression level was an independent prognostic factor for the patients with PDAC. Patients with high LHPP expression had a better prognosis. The lentiviral vectors for normal control (NC), LHPP knockdown (KD), and LHPP overexpression (OE) were infected with BxPC-3 and PANC-1 cell lines. Cell counting kit-8 assay, Transwell assay, and flow cytometry analyses showed that LHPP overexpression significantly inhibited the cell viability, migration, and proliferation of BxPC-3 and PANC-1 cells. Moreover, xenograft tumor model demonstrated that LHPP overexpression inhibited xenograft tumor growth in vivo. Subsequently, proteins with significantly altered expression in BxPC-3 cells after lentivirus infection were detected using proteomics analyses. Interestingly, compared to the NC group, the expression of Syndecan 1 (SDC1) was significantly upregulated in the KD group, while that of S100P was significantly downregulated in the OE group. Conclusion LHPP might emerge as an important target for delaying the advancement of PDAC, thereby providing a novel therapeutic approach for the treatment of PDAC.

Right atrial thrombosis, which occurs alone, is rare in clinical practice. Its incidence and mechanism are unclear, but susceptibility factors are usually present at its occurrence: ischemic heart disease, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and chronic kidney disease. Complete isolated right atrial thrombosis rarely occurs. We report here a 47-year-old male patient with a right atrial mass on cardiac ultrasound and chest computed tomography (CT) and a history of previous right heart surgery with type 2 diabetes mellitus and atrial fibrillation, complaining of “chest tightness and shortness of breath after activity for half a month.” The patient was admitted to the hospital and underwent right atrial mass resection, and the postoperative pathology showed “right atrial thrombus.” As right atrial thrombus is very rare and can be a serious threat to life when it occurs in the heart, the prevention and treatment of right atrial thrombus are very important. Based on the analysis of this case, we believe that for patients with special medical history such as “post right heart surgery and atrial fibrillation,” we need to be vigilant for atrial thrombosis.

The discovery of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has revolutionized the model of antitumor therapy. With the continuous deepening of the research on the mechanism of immunotherapy, ICIs, such as programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1), programmed death-ligand 1 inhibitors and cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated protein 4 inhibitors, have been widely used in a variety of tumors. Nevertheless, the use of ICI can also lead to a series of immune-related adverse events. Common immune-related adverse events include gastrointestinal toxicity, pulmonary toxicity, endocrine system toxicity, and skin toxicity. Neurologic adverse events are relatively rare, but they seriously affect the quality of life and shorten the survival time of patients. This article reports cases of peripheral neuropathy mediated by PD-1 inhibitors and retrieves the relevant literatures at home and abroad to summarize the neurotoxicity caused by PD-1 inhibitors, so as to strengthen the awareness of clinicians and patients on neurologic adverse reactions and mitigate potential adverse effects of implemented therapies.

Objective To report a new surgical position of lateral-tilted supine (LTS) for geriatric proximal humeral fracture operations. Methods Between January 2016 and December 2020, we adopted the LTS position for operations in 65 geriatric patients with proximal humeral fractures. Results Sixty-five patients including 25 males and 40 females aged 80.3 ± 8.5 years. The LTS position could be used for almost all proximal humeral fracture surgeries, such as ORIF with plate, suture anchor, and other fixation in 4 patients, open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with multiLoc nailing in 48, and shoulder hemiarthroplasty (SHA) in 13. Surgical position setting times were 11.47 ± 2.14 min. The systolic blood pressure changes before and after positioning were 15.07 ± 8.72 mmHg. All of the C-arm X-ray directions, including the cephalic side, contralateral side, and ipsilateral side, can be used in the LTS position surgeries. No surgical complications or no surgical position-related complications were found in these 65 cases. Conclusion The surgical position of LTS is suitable for geriatric proximal humeral fracture operations.

Abstract. Background:. Orthokeratology (OK) has a significant effect on the control of myopia progression, and has been accepted by doctors and patients. A small number of studies have shown that the combination of OK and atropine can enhance myopia control. However, owing to individual differences, research groups, drug concentrations, and research design differences, the safety and effectiveness of the combined treatment still need to be verified. Therefore, the present meta-analysis aimed to determine the effect of 0.01% atropine on ocular axial elongation in myopic children. Methods:. We searched the PubMed, Cochrane Library, and CBM databases from inception to March 1, 2022. Meta-analysis will be conducted using STATA version 14.0 and Review Manager version 5.3 softwares. We calculated the weighted mean differences (WMD) to analyze the change in ocular axial length (AL) between orthokeratology combined with 0.01% atropine (OKA) and OK alone. Cochran's Q-statistic and I2 test were used to evaluate the potential heterogeneity between studies. A sensitivity analysis was performed to evaluate the influence of single studies on the overall estimate. We will also perform subgroup and meta-regression analyses to investigate potential sources of heterogeneity. We will conduct Begger's funnel plots and Egger's linear regression tests to investigate the publication bias. Results:. This systematic review aimed to determine the effect of 0.01% atropine on ocular axial elongation in children with myopia. Conclusions:. These findings provide helpful evidence for the effect of 0.01% atropine on ocular axial elongation in myopic children.

Abstract. Rationale:. Persistent leukocytosis with megalosplenia is a common manifestation among patients with myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN), especially for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients. Here, we report a rare case of myeloid neoplasm with BCR-PDGFRA rearrangement characterized by obvious elevation of leukocyte count and megalosplenia. Patient concerns:. A 32-year-old man presented with persistent leukocytosis and megalosplenia. Diagnosis:. This patient was characterized by increased leukocyte count and megalosplenia, and was clinically diagnosed as CML. However, the BCR/ABL fusion gene of the patient was negative, which did not support CML. Moreover, the results of the karyotype showed 46, XY, t(4;22)(q12;q11) and RT-PCR + Sanger detection showed positive PDGFA/BCR. Accordingly, the diagnosis of myeloid neoplasm with BCR-PDGFA rearrangement was confirmed. Interventions:. This patient was initially received imatinib (400 mg) orally once a day, and the dosage was adjusted to 100 mg owing to suffering from grade IV bone marrow suppression. Outcomes:. Hematological remission was achieved after 2 weeks, the best treatment response was achieved after 3 months, and the main molecular biological response was achieved after 12 months. Lesson:. This case suggests that rare PDGFA fusion genes screening for patients comorbid with leukocytosis and megalosplenia is necessary to avoid misdiagnosis. Unlike other rearrangements of PDGFRA, the clinical manifestations of BCR-PDGFRA rearrangement are resembling CML without eosinophilia increase.

Abstract. Objective:. To investigate the effect of long-acting octreotide as adjuvant therapy in the prevention of tumor recurrence in patients with grade 2 pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNETs) after radical resection. Methods:. The postoperative follow-up data of 130 patients with resectable G2 pNET treated in the Changhai Hospital from 2008 to 2018 were retrospectively analyzed: 59 patients received long-acting octreotide as adjuvant therapy for 6 to 12 months (Oct group) and 71 patients received active follow-up (control group), both of which began after the radical resection, with the primary observation endpoint of disease-free survival (DFS) and the secondary study endpoint of overall survival. Results:. The median age of the patients in the Oct group and control group was 52 and 54 years, respectively. There were 28 male cases (47.5%) and 33 male cases (46.5%) in the 2 groups. The median maximum tumor diameter was 3.5 and 3.0 cm, respectively; lymph node metastasis was positive in 13 cases (22.0%) and 9 cases (12.7%); there was peripancreatic nerve invasion in 11 cases (18.6%) and 6 cases (8.5%). Survival analysis revealed that there were significant differences in 2-year DFS% (98.3% vs 88.7%, P = .0371) and 3-year DFS% (96.6% vs 85.9%, P = .0498) between the Oct group and control group. Long-acting octreotide treatment was found to reduce the risk of 3-year recurrence of G2 pNET after radical resection (HR = 0.2, P = .044) with the application of inverse-probability-of-treatment weighted to balance the limited data bias. Conclusion:. Using long-acting octreotide as adjuvant therapy for G2 pNET patients after radical surgery may improve the rate of 3y-DFS, but the benefit needs to be confirmed in a well-designed random control clinical trial.

Abstract. This article was to analyze the factors influencing the prognosis of posterior circulation cerebral infarction (PCCI) patients, retrospectively. One hundred forty five patients diagnosed with PCCI in Nanyang Central Hospital between June 25, 2016 and October 14, 2019 were included and underwent cerebral vascular mechanical thrombectomy. The clinical data of those patients were collected. The patients were followed up for 3 months to observe the prognostic efficacy and explore the influencing factors for poor prognosis. The potential prognostic factors for PCCI patients after emergency endovascular mechanical thrombectomy were analyzed by univariate and multivariable logistic regression. The thermodynamic diagram was drawn to explore the associations between the prognostic factors. The risk of poor prognosis in PCCI patients receiving emergency endovascular mechanical thrombectomy was reduced by 0.552 time with every 1-point increase of the Alberta Stroke Program Early CT in posterior circulation score (odds ratio [OR] = 0.448, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.276–0.727). The risk of poor prognosis was increased by 0.827 time for each additional grade in the digital subtraction angiography-American Society of Intervention and Therapeutic Neuroradiology grading (OR = 1.827, 95% CI: 1.221–2.733, P = .003) and increased by 0.288 time for every 1-point increase in National Institutes of Health Stroke scale at 24 hours (OR = 1.288, 95% CI: 1.161–1.429). Objective To discover the key evaluation tool of the cephalic fixation position for predicting implant failures in geriatric intertrochanteric fracture (ITF) patients treated with internal fixations after achieving an acceptable reduction. Methods We measured the geriatric ITF patients undergoing single-screw cephalomedullary nailing (CMN) fixation surgery after obtaining the acceptable reduction (including anatomical reduction and positive medial cortex support reduction) in our treatment group between September 2016 and March 2020 by using four kinds of cephalic fixation position evaluation tools including Cleveland zone system, Parker’s ratio index, tip–apex distance (TAD), calcar-referenced TAD (CalTAD), and analyzed which were the key evaluation tools for measurement of cephalic fixation position for prediction of implant failures in geriatric ITF patients with internal fixations. Results Seventy-four ITF patients treated with single-screw CMN fixation after obtaining the acceptable reduction were enrolled in this study. Of the 74 patients, nine cases were observed with implant failures. There were six cases of cut-out and three of pending cut-out. We found that TAD (odds ratio (OR)=1.149; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.00–1.32; P=.046) and CalTAD (OR=1.140; 95% CI, 1.00–1.30; P=.037) were risk factors for implant failures by univariate analysis, while only CalTAD (OR=1.200; 95% CI, 1.032–1.395; P=.018) was the independent risk factor for implant failures by multivariate analysis. The Kappa coefficient (κ) of CalTAD was .976 (95% CI, .966–.984) by ICC analysis. The ROC analysis showed that the best cut-off value of CalTAD was 23.76 mm with a sensitivity of 77.8% and specificity of 72.3% (area under the curve, AUC =.775; P = .001). Conclusions CalTAD is the key evaluation tool for measurement of cephalic fixation position for predicting implant failures in geriatric ITF patients treated with single-screw CMN after obtaining the acceptable reduction.

Cancer patients experience an increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). In this study, we investigated a risk of venous thromboembolism algorithm (RVTA) in patients with colorectal cancer and evaluated its ability to predict the prognosis of colorectal cancer. We retrospectively analyzed clinical data from 345 patients with colorectal cancer from January 2015 to December 2018 at the Shanghai Cancer Center to develop the RVTA. Additionally, the 345 patients were followed until December 2020 for prognostic analysis. The RVTA included the following variables: (a) platelet count, (b) blood transfusion history, (c) metastasis, (d) multiple chemotherapy regimens, and (e) the D-dimer level. Good predictive efficiency was observed for the RVTA (AUC was 0.825; 95% CI was 0.721 to 0.930). The median progression-free survival (PFS) of patients who had a score less than 4 (0-3), defined as the low-risk group, was significantly longer than that of the high-risk group, which included patients who had a score greater than 4 (4-8) (26 vs ten months, P

The systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII) and derived neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (dNLR) are novel indexes that simultaneously reflect the host inflammatory and immune status and have prognostic value in some cancers. SII was associated with major cardiovascular events in coronary artery disease patients who received percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). However, dNLR correlations with clinical outcomes in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients undergoing PCI remain unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the predictive values of SII and dNLR on the long-term prognosis of patients with ACS undergoing PCI. In total, 1,553 ACS patients undergoing PCI were consecutively enrolled from January 2016 to December 2018. The subjects were divided into high and low SII and dNLR groups for comparison (high vs. low). The SII and dNLR cutoff values for predicting major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) were calculated using receiver operating characteristic curves, and Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox regression models were used for survival analyses. The endpoint was a MACE, which included all-cause mortality and rehospitalization for severe heart failure during follow-up. The Kaplan-Meier curves showed that a higher SII or dNLR value was associated with a higher risk of MACE (all P < 0.001). Multivariate Cox regression models showed that SII (hazard ratio [HR]: 2.545; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.416-4.574; P = 0.002) and dNLR (HR: 2.610, 95% CI: 1.454-4.685, P = 0.001) were independent predictors for MACE. dNLR may be a suitable laboratory marker to identify high-risk ACS patients after PCI.

In recent years, a rising number of studies have confirmed that microRNA (miRNA) plays a prominent role in the early diagnosis and prognostic value assessment of cardiovascular diseases. The current study was conducted to examine the expression of miR-675-3p in atherosclerosis (AS) patients and to evaluate its clinical diagnosis and prognostic value. 110 AS patients and 70 healthy controls were included in the study. Serum miR-675-3p levels were detected by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). The clinical diagnostic significance of serum miR-675-3p in AS patients were investigated by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The correlation between miRNA and carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) was analyzed by the Spearman correlation coefficient. The prognostic significance of serum miR-675-3p was evaluated by the Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression analysis. The patient’s serum miR-675-3p was significantly increased than the healthy individuals ( P < 0.05). An increase of carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) was positively correlated with the promotion of serum miR-675-3p levels. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) was 0.918, with high sensitivity and specificity. miR-675-3p is a key independent predictor of cardiovascular adverse events in AS patients (HR = 5.375, 95%CI = 1.590-18.170, P = 0.007), and patients with elevated miR-675-3p were more likely to have cardiovascular adverse events (log-rank P = 0.030). Increased miR-675-3p can be used as a potential marker for the diagnosis of AS, and was associated with the poor prognosis of AS.

Objective: To identify whether the timing of surgery affects red blood cell (RBC) transfusion requirements in the elderly with intertrochanteric fractures. Methods: We retrospectively studied all patients undergoing surgical fixation of their intertrochanteric fractures in our hospital between January 2009 and December 2018 and analyzed the relationship between the timing of surgery and RBC transfusion. The objective of this study was to investigate the between autophagy activity and local immune response in hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HSCC). Herein, we observed the expression of autophagy marker microtubule-associated protein light chain 3B (MAP1LC3B), CD8 cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), CD39 (regulatory T cells Tregs) and CD163 (tumor-associated macrophages TAMs) in HSCC, and determined the prognostic roles of CD8 + /CD39 + and CD8 + /CD163 + in patients with HSCC. The expression of light chain 3B (LC3B) and CD8 + /CD39 + was found to be significantly lower in HSCC tissues than in adjacent non-tumor mucosa tissue samples; LC3B expression was positively correlated with the infiltration rate of CD8 + /CD39 + in HSCC. Further studies revealed that the ratio of CD8 + /CD39 + immune cells was negatively correlated with tumor lymph node metastasis and TNM classification, while the ratio of CD8 + /CD163 + immune cells was negatively correlated with TNM classification. Moreover, the expression of LC3B was analyzed and the patients were grouped according to their immune infiltration characteristics. The 5-year cumulative survival rates of LC3B + , CD8 + /CD39 + , and CD8 + /CD163 + patients were significantly higher than those of other group patients. Collectively, our studies indicated that the expression of LC3B in HSCC was correlated with the infiltration ratio of immune cells, and a change in autophagy activity may affect the cellular immunity in HSCC. The ratios of tCD8 + /CD39 + and tCD8 + /CD163 + may serve as prognostic factors for HSCC.

To evaluate the efficacy and safety of TurboHawk plaque rotation system combined with drug-coated balloon in treating lower extremity arterial disease (LEAD) of diabetes patients, a total of 145 diabetic patients with LEAD from March 2015 to September 2016 were recruited in our study. Lower extremity arterial disease was diagnosed by ultrasound and CT angiography (CTA). According to the surgical method, 65 cases underwent TurboHawk plaque rotation combined with drug-coated balloon (group A), 80 cases underwent simple drug-coated balloon expansion (group B). The characteristics of lesion, function test, ankle-brachial index (ABI), and postoperative complications were analyzed. All the patients were followed up at 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24 months after operation. At baseline, there was no difference in all the characteristics between the 2 groups. The early postoperation minimum lumen diameter (MLD), lumen stenosis rate, and ABI in 2 groups both improved. As the follow-up time increased, patients in group A had significantly higher MLD and ABL value, as well as lower level of lumen stenosis rate, restenosis rate, late lumen loss, and target lesion revascularization (all P < .05). Accordingly, functional testing revealed the 6-minute walk distance, 6-minute claudication distance, resting ABI, and post-exercise ABI in group A were significantly higher than those in group B (all P < .05). Besides, major graft reintervention (4.62% vs 11.25%) and major adverse limb events (6.15% vs 12.5%) in group A occurred less frequently than group B (all P < .05). In conclusion, the long-term effect of the combined approach was better than only drug-coated balloon in LEAD in Chinese diabetes patients.

Introduction: In 2014, new evidence-based definitions of lifelong premature ejaculation (LPE) and acquired premature ejaculation (APE) were proposed by the International Society for Sexual Medicine. Based on the new PE definitions, the prevalence of and factors associated with LPE and APE have not been investigated in China. Aim: To evaluate the prevalence of and factors associated with LPE and APE in men with the complaint of PE in China. Methods: From December 2011 to December 2015, a cross-sectional field survey was conducted in five cities in the Anhui province of China. Questionnaire data of 3,579 men were collected in our database. The questionnaire included subjects' demographic information and medical and sexual histories. Men who were not satisfied with their time to ejaculate were accepted as having the complaint of PE. Men with the complaint of PE who met the new definition of PE were diagnosed as having LPE or APE. Main Outcome Measures: New definition of LPE and APE. Results: Of 3,579 men who completed the questionnaire, 34.62% complained of PE. Mean age, body mass index, and self-estimated intravaginal ejaculatory latency time for all subjects were 34.97 ± 9.02 years, 23.33 ± 3.56 kg/m2, and 3.09 ± 1.36 minutes, respectively. The prevalences of LPE and APE in men with the complaint of PE were 10.98% and 21.39%, respectively. LPE and APE were associated with age, body mass index, and smoking and exercise rates (P < .001 for all comparisons). Men with APE reported more comorbidities than men with LPE, especially in the presence of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and heart disease (P < .001 for all comparisons). Conclusion: In this study, the prevalences of LPE and APE in men with the complaint of PE were 10.98% and 21.39%, respectively. Patients with APE were older and more likely to smoke, had more comorbidities, and had a higher body mass index than patients with LPE.

Respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) inertia is the temporary dependency of RSA levels between consecutive epochs, which captures the epoch-to-epoch stickiness of RSA reactivity. Previous studies examining the developmental function of between-task RSA reactivity have yielded mixed findings and have often overlooked RSA reactivity within the task. The present study examined whether RSA inertia during a stress task was associated with subsequent changes in child psychopathology symptoms. To have a comprehensive understanding of the function of RSA reactivity, we tested whether RSA inertia interacted with between-task RSA reactivity to jointly predict changes in child psychopathology symptoms. Eighty-nine middle-to-high income Chinese parent-child dyads were recruited. Children ( M age = 8.77 years, SD = 1.80 years, 41 girls) participated in a 2-min resting phase and then a 4-min stress task (a public speaking task), during which RSA was continuously recorded in the lab. Parents ( M age = 39.27 years, SD = 3.53 years, 67 mothers) reported on children's psychopathology symptoms in the lab and again 9 months later. Children with heightened RSA inertia tended to exhibit increased externalizing symptoms 9 months later. Moreover, RSA inertia interacted with between-task RSA reactivity to predict subsequent changes in externalizing symptoms. Children with the combination of lower RSA inertia and larger between-task RSA decreases had the lowest externalizing symptoms, suggesting an adaptive RSA reactivity pattern. Heightened within-task RSA inertia as well as reduced between-task RSA reactivity may help to identify children at risk for subsequent psychopathology symptoms, aiding in early intervention efforts. Background: Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is one of the most common diseases in neurosurgery. It is the result of chronic intracranial hemorrhage that converges between the dura mater and arachnoid three weeks after externally injuring the head. Chronic subdural hematomas are a common complication in neurosurgery. With the gradual increase in the amount of hematoma, the surrounding brain tissue is pushed and compressed, resulting in corresponding clinical symptoms and signs. It is reported that the overall incidence rate of CSDH is 1.72 to 20.6 per 100,000 people every year, and the incidence rate of the elderly is particularly high., Methods: The computer retrieves eight databases to obtain controlled trials at home and abroad on the effects of neuroendoscopy-assisted surgery in patients with chronic subdural hematoma. After a rigorous literature quality evaluation, data analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 software., Results: Twenty studies were ultimately included in this meta-analysis. Seventeen studies reported the Recurrence rate of the test group and the control group, which was significantly lower (OR 0.27; 95% Cl 0.18, 0.38; P < 0.01) than the control group, Recovery rate (OR 1.18; 95% Cl 1.01, 1.38; P = 0.03), Total effective rate (OR 1.11; 95% Cl 1.04, 1.17; P < 0.01), Operative time (SMD 15.78; 95% Cl 9.69, 21.86; P < 0.01), Hospital stay (SMD - 1.66; 95% Cl - 2.17, - 1.14; P < 0.01) and Complications (OR 0.48; 95% Cl 0.30, 0.78; P < 0.01)., Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that neuroendoscopy-assisted surgery may be effective in patients with chronic subdural hematoma, as evidenced by recurrence rate, recovery rate, total effective rate, operative time, hospital stay, complications, and the above conclusions need to be verified by more high-quality studies., (© 2024. Using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) hyperscanning methodology, this study investigated whether parent emotional support moderated the relation between parent-child interbrain synchrony and interaction quality (via behavioral observation and child-report), controlling for individual emotional distress. Eighty-eight parent-child dyads (96.6% Han ethnicity), including a school-age child between the ages of 6 and 11 (M age  = 8.07 years, SD = 1.16 years; 58.0% boys) and their parent (M age  = 39.03 years, SD = 3.54 years; 69.3% mothers), participated in a cooperative task during which brain activity was assessed. Cluster-based permutations indicated parent-child interbrain synchrony in the left and right temporoparietal junction (TPJ). Interbrain synchrony in the left TPJ positively related to parent-child interaction quality in the context of high parent emotional support, whereas the association was weaker and negative when parents demonstrated low emotional support. Prenatal maternal anxiety is considered a risk factor for the development of child internalizing problems. However, little is known about potential mechanisms that account for these associations. The current study examined whether prenatal maternal anxiety was indirectly associated with toddler internalizing problems via prenatal maternal physiology and infant negative affectivity. We examined these associations in a longitudinal study of 162 expectant mothers from their third trimester until 18 months postpartum. Path analyses showed that higher prenatal anxiety was associated with higher infant negative affectivity at 7 months, which in turn was associated with higher toddler internalizing problems at 18 months. Prenatal anxiety was not indirectly associated with child outcomes via baseline or task-evoked respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) in response to an infant cry while pregnant. However, pregnant women with greater decreases in task-evoked RSA had toddlers with greater internalizing problems, which was mediated by infant negative affectivity at 7 months. Findings suggest that prenatal anxiety and RSA reactivity to an infant cry may be independent risk factors for the development of infant negative affectivity, which in turn increases risk for toddler internalizing problems. These findings contribute to a growing literature on mechanisms that underlie intergenerational transmission of internalizing problems.

Parents and their children can have congruent or incongruent perceptions of parenting, which has been shown to have downstream effects on certain adolescent outcomes. However, little is known about whether such effect holds for various domains of developmental outcomes or across adolescent boys and girls. Investigating 2268 parent-girl (M age  = 15.73, SD age  = 0.29, 75.5% were mothers) and 2090 parent-boy (M age  = 15.75, SD age  = 0.29, 71.8% were mothers) dyads from Hong Kong, this study examined the associations between parent-adolescent (in)congruence and adolescent emotional symptoms, positive emotions, and academic performance. Polynomial regression and response surface analyses revealed that both congruence and incongruence were linked to emotional symptoms and positive emotions in varying patterns, but only congruence was tied to academic performance. Associations between (in)congruence and developmental outcomes generally were similar between boys and girls. Food and medicinal substances(FAMS) with both edible and medicinal uses have a long history in China, being an important part of China's excellent traditional culture and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM). The legal management of FAMS is in the form of catalogue, which has a history of nearly 40 years. More than 100 substances have been included in the China's FAMS catalogue. According to the Regulation of Food and Medicinal Substances Catalogue, safety assessment is a basis for substances to be included in the catalogue. The safety assessment of FAMS should follow the principles and requirements of food safety risk assessment. However, FAMS is a complex mixture, and the nature and data adequacy of the assessed substance should be comprehensively considered. Different eva-luation models and methods should be selected according to the principle of case analysis. With the development of next-generation technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence, high-throughput and high-content in vitro testing, and computational toxicology and the trend of increasing edible substances with medicinal effects applying for the inclusion in the China's FAMS catalogue, the methods of risk assessment are applied in the management of FAMS, novel food products, and local characteristic food products, playing a scientific role. This paper systematically reviews the methods, challenges, and prospects of safety assessment of FAMS.

This study examined parental autonomy support and psychological control and their relations with child biobehavioral functioning. Participants included 238 Chinese parent-child dyads (M age-child  = 8.38 years, 42.0% girls) in two cohorts (2013 and 2021). Parents in the 2021 cohort displayed higher levels of autonomy support and psychological control during the parent-child interaction than in the 2013 cohort. Parental psychological control was positively associated with emotion regulation and negatively associated with externalizing problems in the 2013 cohort, but not in the 2021 cohort. Parental psychological control was also negatively associated with vagal suppression in the 2021 cohort, but not in the 2013 cohort. Background: Emotion regulation (ER) is considered central in adolescent psychopathology, and ER strategies may change during challenging times, such as a global pandemic. Despite this, there remains a limited understanding of individual differences in ER mechanisms and their associations with psychopathology. This study examined whether and how cognitive reappraisal, expressive suppression, and self-compassion changed over COVID-19 and how these changes uniquely predicted adolescents' depressive symptoms., Methods: A total of 2,411 adolescents (58.6% females; M age  = 18.51, SD = 0.80) completed the Emotional Regulation Questionnaire, the Self-compassion Scale, and the Symptom Checklist-90 before COVID-19 (in 2019) and during COVID-19 (in 2020). The predictive associations between each ER strategy and depressive symptoms were tested with latent change score models., Results: Adolescents' use of expressive suppression and self-compassion strategies both increased during COVID-19. More increases in expressive suppression predicted more depressive symptoms, whereas more increases in self-compassion predicted fewer depressive symptoms. Although, on average, cognitive reappraisal did not change, it did show significant variations within the sample - increases (vs. decreases) in cognitive appraisal predicted fewer depressive symptoms., Conclusions: The study indicates how adolescents' ER strategies changed during the unprecedented global pandemic. It underscores protective roles of increased cognitive reappraisal and self-compassion, as well as the adverse consequence of heightened expressive suppression on adolescents' depressive symptoms. Challenges with childhood emotion regulation may have origins in infancy and forecast later social and cognitive developmental delays, academic difficulties, and psychopathology. This study tested whether markers of emotion dysregulation in infancy predict emotion dysregulation in toddlerhood, and whether those associations depended on maternal sensitivity. When children ( N = 111) were 7 months, baseline respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA), RSA withdrawal, and distress were collected during the Still Face Paradigm (SFP). Mothers' reports of infant regulation and orientation and maternal sensitivity were also collected at that time. Mothers' reports of toddlers' dysregulation were collected at 18 months. A set of hierarchical regressions indicated that low baseline RSA and less change in RSA from baseline to stressor predicted greater dysregulation at 18 months, but only for infants who experienced low maternal sensitivity. Baseline RSA and RSA withdrawal were not significantly associated with later dysregulation for infants with highly sensitive mothers. Infants who exhibited low distress during the SFP and who had lower regulatory and orienting abilities at 7 months had higher dysregulation at 18 months regardless of maternal sensitivity. Altogether, these results suggest that risk for dysregulation in toddlerhood has biobehavioral origins in infancy but may be buffered by sensitive caregiving.

Substantial evidence suggest that chronic consumption of high-fat diets (HFDs) can lead to obesity, abnormal metabolism, as well as cognitive impairment. Molecular and cellular changes regarding hippocampal dysfunctions have been identified in multiple HFD animal models. Therefore, in-depth identification of expression changes of hippocampal proteins is critical for understanding the mechanism of HFD-induced cognitive deficits. In this study, we fed 3-week-old male mice with HFD for 3 months to generate obese mice who exhibit systemic metabolic abnormality and learning and memory decline. Using an iTRAQ-labeled proteomic analysis, we identified a total of 82 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) in the hippocampus upon HFD with 35 up-regulated proteins and 47 down-regulated proteins. Functional enrichment indicated that these DEPs were predominantly enriched in regulation of catabolic process, dendritic shaft, neuron projection morphogenesis and GTPase regulator activity. Protein-protein interaction enrichment showed that the DEPs are mostly enriched in postsynaptic functions; and of them, six proteins (i.e., DLG3, SYNGAP1, DCLK1, GRIA4, GRIP1, and ARHGAP32) were involved in several functional assemblies of the postsynaptic density including G-protein signaling, scaffolding and adaptor, kinase and AMPA signaling, respectively. Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Baicalein (BAI) is the crucial flavonoid component in Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, possessing biological functions such as anti-oxidant, anti-apoptotic, and anti-inflammatory. However, there is limited intensive pharmacological and mechanistic research on the therapeutic effects of BAI for cataract treatment., Aim of the Study: This study aimed to investigate the effects and mechanisms of BAI on Na 2 SeO 3 -induced cataract in juvenile rats., Materials and Methods: The cataract model was established by a single subcutaneous injection of 3.46 mg/kg Na 2 SeO 3 on the back of 10-day-old rats. The BAI (25 mg/kg, 50 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg) was administered to the 8-day-old rats and continued until they reached 30 days of age, and the opacity of the lens was observed using a slit lamp microscope every 3 days. Pathological changes in the lens were observed using hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining to investigate the effects of BAI on Na 2 SeO 3 -induced cataract in rats. The levels of antioxidant substances in rat serum and the lens, as well as the levels of soluble and insoluble proteins in rat lens, were measured by the reagent kit. Furthermore, the mechanism of BAI on Na 2 SeO 3 -induced cataract rats was analyzed by network pharmacology, molecular docking, and Western blot., Results: BAI significantly increased the content of soluble proteins in the lens, mitigated the dense opacity of rat lens and reduced the damage to lens epithelial cells, reduced the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) in rat serum and lens, increased the levels of total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD) and Glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX). Parent-child interaction is crucial for children's cognitive and affective development. While bio-synchrony models propose that parenting influences interbrain synchrony during interpersonal interaction, the brain-to-brain mechanisms underlying real-time parent-child interactions remain largely understudied. Using functional near-infrared spectroscopy, we investigated interbrain synchrony in 88 parent-child dyads (Mage children = 8.07, 42.0% girls) during a collaborative task (the Etch-a-Sketch, a joint drawing task). Our findings revealed increased interbrain synchrony in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and temporo-parietal areas during interactive, collaborative sessions compared to non-interactive, resting sessions. Linear regression analysis demonstrated that interbrain synchrony in the left temporoparietal junction was associated with enhanced dyadic collaboration, shared positive affect, parental autonomy support, and parental emotional warmth. These associations remained significant after controlling for demographic variables including child age, child gender, and parent gender. Additionally, differences between fathers and mothers were observed. These results highlight the significant association between brain-to-brain synchrony in parent-child dyads, the quality of the parent-child relationship, and supportive parenting behaviors. The present study employed two key dynamic indicators (i.e., inertia and instability) to the psychophysiological research of child emotion regulation (ER) and examined whether respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) dynamics were associated with child ER during a stress task. Eighty-nine Chinese school-age children (M age  = 8.77 years, SD = 1.80 years; 46.1% girls) and their primary caregivers participated in the study. After controlling for RSA static reactivity, multiple regression analyses indicated that lower RSA inertia was related to fewer in-task negative emotions rated by children and their caregivers, and higher RSA instability was associated with better child trait ER. Objectives: Examine the significance of contouring the brachial plexus (BP) for toxicity estimation and select metrics for predicting radiation-induced brachial plexopathy (RIBP) after stereotactic body radiotherapy., Materials and Methods: Patients with planning target volume (PTV) ≤ 2 cm from the BP were eligible. The BP was contoured primarily according to the RTOG 1106 atlas, while subclavian-axillary veins (SAV) were contoured according to RTOG 0236. Apical PTVs were classified as anterior (PTV-A) or posterior (PTV-B) PTVs. Variables predicting grade 2 or higher RIBP (RIBP2) were selected through least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression and logistic regression., Results: Among 137 patients with 140 BPs (median follow-up, 32.1 months), 11 experienced RIBP2. For patients with RIBP2, the maximum physical dose to the BP (BP-D max ) was 46.5 Gy (median; range, 35.7 to 60.7 Gy). Of these patients, 54.5 % (6/11) satisfied the RTOG limits when using SAV delineation; among them, 83.3 % (5/6) had PTV-B. For patients with PTV-B, the maximum physical dose to SAV (SAV-D max ) was 11.2 Gy (median) lower than BP-D max . Maximum and 0.3 cc biologically effective doses to the BP based on the linear-quadratic-linear model (BP-BED max LQL and BP-BED 0.3cc LQL , α/β = 3) were selected as predictive variables with thresholds of 118 and 73 Gy, respectively., Conclusion: Contouring SAV may significantly underestimate the RIBP2 risk in dosimetry, especially for patients with PTV-B. This meta-analysis evaluated the role of evidence-based nursing interventions in preventing pressure ulcers in patients with stroke. Computer systems were used to retrieve randomised controlled trials (RCTs) on evidence-based nursing interventions for patients with stroke and comorbid pressure ulcers from PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database and Wanfang Data from database inception until April 2023. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted the data and evaluated the quality of the included studies according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. RevMan 5.4 software was used for the meta-analysis. A total of 23 articles with results on 2035 patients were included, with 1015 patients in the evidence-based nursing group and 1020 patients in the routine nursing group. The meta-analysis results showed that evidence-based nursing interventions significantly reduced the incidence of pressure ulcers in patients with stroke (5.22% vs. 22.84%, odds ratio [OR]: 0.18, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.13-0.24, p < 0.001), delayed the onset of pressure ulcers (standardised mean difference [SMD]: 3.41, 95% CI: 1.40-5.42, p < 0.001) and improved patient quality of life (SMD: 2.95, 95% CI: 2.35-3.56, p < 0.001). Evidence-based nursing interventions are effective at preventing pressure ulcers in patients with stroke, delaying the onset of pressure ulcers and improving their quality of life. Evidence-based nursing should be promoted for patients with stroke. However, owing to differences in sample size between studies and the methodological inadequacies of some studies, these results should be verified by large, high-quality RCTs., (© 2023 The Authors. Research suggests that women's autonomic nervous system responses to infant cries capture processes that affect their parenting behaviors. The aim of this study was to build on prior work by testing whether pregnant women's autonomic responses to an unfamiliar infant crying also predict their infants' emerging regulation abilities. Participants included 97 women in their third trimester of pregnancy, located in the United States. Most participants identified as White/non-Hispanic (48%) or Hispanic (30%), their mean age was approximately 30 years, and the modal family income was $40,000-$79,999. Pregnant women's respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) and skin conductance levels (SCL)-which are thought to capture emotional engagement and behavioral inhibition, respectively-were measured while the women watched a relaxing video and a video of an unfamiliar infant crying. Approximately 7 months later, women and their infants completed the still-face paradigm (SFP). Infants' avoidance and resistance behaviors during the SFP reunions were rated. Pregnant women's RSA and SCL responses to the infant cry video uniquely predicted infants' avoidance (but not resistance) during the SFP. Infants displayed higher levels of avoidance when their mothers exhibited lower levels of RSA reactivity or when their mothers exhibited higher levels of SCL activity in response to the infant cry video. Maternal sensitivity during mother-infant free-play interactions did not mediate the associations between pregnant women's autonomic responses to the cry video and infants' avoidant behavior during the SFP. Discussion focuses on potential mechanisms underlying associations between pregnant women's autonomic responses to infant distress and infants' socioemotional development. Objectives: To describe the prevalence of chronotype and sleep quality among Chinese college students and explore the relationship between chronotype and sleep quality., Design: A cross-sectional study., Setting: Four colleges and universities in Anhui, China, between November and December 2020., Participants: A total of 4768 college students were recruited using a stratified, multistage, cluster sampling survey., Outcome Measures: Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire 19 was used to determine the chronotype of the students and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to measure their sleep quality. The multiple logistic regression model was used to explore the potential association between chronotype and sleep quality., Results: The self-reported proportions of evening-type (E-type), neutral-type and morning-type among college students were 51.17%, 45.14% and 3.69%, respectively. The mean PSQI score was 4.97±2.82 and the prevalence of poor sleep quality was 18.2%. After adjusting the covariates by multiple logistic regression analysis, E-type was positively associated with subjective sleep quality (OR=1.671, 95% CI 1.414 to 1.975), sleep latency (OR=1.436, 95% CI 1.252 to 1.647), sleep duration (OR=2.149, 95% CI 1.506 to 3.067), habitual sleep efficiency (OR=1.702, 95% CI 1.329 to 2.180), daytime dysfunction (OR=1.602, 95% CI 1.412 to 1.818) and overall poor sleep quality (OR=1.866, 95% CI 1.586 to 2.196)., Conclusions: College students mainly exhibited E-type, and an elevated prevalence of poor sleep quality existed among these students. We conducted a meta-analysis to assess the effects of bundle-care interventions on pressure ulcers in patients with stroke to provide a basis for clinical work. Randomised controlled trials on the effects of bundle-care interventions in patients with stroke were identified using computerised searches of the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP and Wanfang databases, from the time of inception of each database to July 2023, supplemented by manual literature searches. Two researchers independently retrieved and screened the articles, extracted the data and evaluated the quality of the included studies. After reaching consensus, meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4. Twenty-four papers were included, involving 3330 patients of whom 1679 were in the intervention group and 1651 were in the control group. The results showed that, compared with standard care, bundle-care interventions significantly reduced the incidence of pressure ulcers (3.28% vs. 14.84%, odds ratio [OR]: 0.19, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.14-0.26, p < 0.001), and aspiration (5.60% vs. 18.84%, OR: 0.25, 95% CI: 0.17-0.39, p < 0.001), and improved patient satisfaction with nursing care (96.59% vs. 84.43%, OR. 5.45, 95% CI: 3.76-7.90, p < 0.001). Current evidence suggests that care bundles are significantly better than conventional nursing measures in preventing pressure ulcers and aspiration, and improving patient satisfaction with nursing care in patients with stroke, and are worthy of clinical promotion and application., (© 2023 The Authors. Objective: Evaluate the impact of peritoneal dialysis catheter (PDC) tail-end design variations on PDC-related complications., Method: Effective data were extracted from databases. The literature was evaluated according to the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions, and a meta-analysis was conducted., Results: Analysis revealed that the straight-tailed catheter was superior to the curled-tailed catheter in minimizing catheter displacement and complication-induced catheter removal (RR = 1.73, 95%CI:1.18-2.53, p = 0.005). In terms of complication-induced PDC removal, the straight-tailed catheter was superior to the curled-tailed catheter (RR = 1.55, 95%CI: 1.15-2.08, p = 0.004)., Conclusion: Curled-tail design of the catheter increased the risk of catheter displacement and complication-induced catheter removal, whereas the straight-tailed catheter was superior to the curled-tailed catheter in terms of reducing catheter displacement and complication-induced catheter removal. A novel high-sensitivity temperature sensor based on a chirped thin-core fiber Bragg grating Fabry-Perot interferometer (CTFBG-FPI) and the Vernier effect is proposed and demonstrated. With femtosecond laser direct writing technology, two CTFBG-FPIs with different interferometric cavity lengths are inscribed inside a thin-core fiber to form a Vernier effect system. The two FPIs consist of two pairs of CTFBGs with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 66.5 nm staggered in parallel. The interferometric cavity lengths of the two FPIs were designed to be 2 mm and 1.98 mm as the reference arm and sensing arm of the sensor, respectively. The temperature sensitivity of this sensor was measured to be -1.084 nm/°C in a range of 40-90°C. This sensor is expected to play a crucial role in precision temperature measurement applications.

The dynamics of parent-infant physiology are essential for understanding how biological substrates of emotion regulation are organized during infancy. Although parent-infant physiological processes are dyadic in nature, research is limited in understanding how one person's physiological responses predict one's own and as well as the other person's responses in the subsequent moment. In this study, we examined mother-infant respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) dynamics during the Still-Face Paradigm (SFP) among 106 mothers (M age  = 29.54) and their 7-month-old infants (55 males). Given mothers' role in shaping dyadic interactions with their infant, we also tested how mothers' self-reported emotion dysregulation (measured via the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale) associated with these dynamics. Results showed that both mothers' and infants' RSA tended to return to their respective homeostatic points (i.e., exhibited return strength) during each SFP episode, indicating stability in RSA for mother-infant dyads. Significant shifts in mother and infant RSA return strength were observed across SFP episodes, highlighting the role of contextual demands on each individual's physiological dynamics. Mother-infant RSA dynamics varied as a function of maternal self-reported emotion dysregulation. Specifically, RSA levels of infants with more dysregulated mothers had a weaker tendency to return to homeostasis during the Reunion episode and were less affected by their mothers' RSA during the Still-Face and Reunion episodes of the SFP, suggesting a less effective coregulatory influence. Objective: To explore the effect of lncRNA ADPGK-AS1 on the proliferation and apoptosis of retinoblastoma cells and its possible mechanism. Methods: The tumor tissues of 31 patients with retinoblastoma admitted to Henan Provincial Eye Hospital from February to June 2020 and their corresponding normal tissues adjacent to the cancer were collected. The expression levels of lncRNA ADPGK-AS1 and miR-200b-5p in retinoblastoma tissues and normal adjacent tissues were detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Human retinal epithelial cell ARPE-19, human retinoblastoma cell Y-79 and WERI-Rb-1 were cultured in vitro . The expression levels of lncRNA ADPGK-AS1 and miR-200b-5p were detected by qRT-PCR. Y-79 cells were randomly divided into si-con group, si-lncRNA ADPGK-AS1 group, miR con group, miR-200b-5p group, si-lncRNA ADPGK-AS1+ anti-miR con group, and si-lncRNA ADPGK-AS1+ anti-miR-200b-5p group. The proliferation, cloning and apoptosis of cells in each group were detected by tetramethylazol blue method, plate cloning test and flow cytometry, respectively. The targeting relationship between lncRNA ADPGK-AS1 and miR-200b-5p was detected by double luciferase report test, and the expression level of cleaved-caspase-3 protein was detected by western blot. Results: Compared with the adjacent tissues, the expression of lncRNA ADPGK-AS1 in retinoblastoma tissues was increased ( P <0.05), while the expression of miR-200b-5p was decreased ( P <0.05). Compared with ARPE-19 cells, the expression of lncRNA ADPGK-AS1 in Y-79 and WERI-Rb-1 cells was increased ( P <0.05), while the expression of miR-200b-5p was decreased ( P <0.05). Compared with the si-con group, the cell viability of the si-lncRNA ADPGK-AS1 group was reduced (1.06±0.09 vs 0.53±0.05, P <0.05), the number of cell clone formation was reduced (114.00±8.03 vs 57.00±4.13, P <0.05), while the apoptosis rate [(7.93±0.68)% vs (25.43±1.94)%] and the protein level of cleaved-caspase-3 were increased ( P <0.05). Compared with the miR-con group, the cell viability of the miR-200b-5p group was decreased (1.05±0.08 vs 0.57±0.05, P <0.05), the number of cell clone formation was decreased (118.00±10.02 vs 64.00±5.13, P <0.05), while the apoptosis rate [(7.89±0.71)% vs (23.15±1.62)%] and the protein level of cleaved-caspase-3 were increased ( P <0.05). lncRNA ADPGK-AS1 could target the expression of miR-200b-5p. Compared with the si-lncRNA ADPGK-AS1+ anti-miR-con group, cell viability of the si-lncRNA ADPGK-AS1+ anti-miR-200b-5p group was increased (0.53±0.04 vs 1.25±0.10, P <0.05), and the number of cell clones was increased (54.00±4.39 vs 125.00±10.03, P <0.05), while the rate of apoptosis [(25.38±1.53)% vs (9.76±0.71)%] and the protein level of cleaved-caspase-3 were decreased ( P <0.05). Conclusion: Interfering with the expression of lncRNA ADPGK-AS1 could inhibit the proliferation and clone formation and induce apoptosis of retinoblastoma cells by targeting the expression of miR-200b-5p.

Fragile X mental retardation protein (FMRP) deficit resulted from mutations in its encoded fragile X mental retardation 1 (Fmr1) gene is a common inherited cause of Fragile X syndrome (FXS) characterized by intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The FMRP absence-induced altered gene expression in prefrontal cortex (PFC) are associated with autistic behaviors. However, there lacks a large-scale protein profiling in the PFC upon loss of FMRP. This study used a TMT-labeled proteomic analysis to identify a protein profile of the PFC in the Fmr1 knockout mouse. A total of 5886 proteins were identified in the PFC with 100 differentially abundant proteins (DAPs) in response to FMRP deficiency. Bioinformatical analyses showed that these DAPs were mostly enriched in immune system, extracellular part and complement and coagulation cascades. The complement and coagulation cascades include 6 upregulated proteins (SERPING1, C1QA, C3, FGA, FGB and FGG), which are associated with fibrin degradation, cell lysis, degranulation chemotaxis and phagocytosis linked to activation of immune and inflammatory responses. Thus, our data provide an altered protein profile upon loss of FMRP in the PFC, and suggest that the enhancement of complement and coagulation cascades might contribute to etiological and pathogenic roles of ASD in FXS. SIGNIFICANCE: The etiology of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), a group of neurobiological disorders characterized by deficits in social interaction barriers and other abnormal behaviors, is still elusive. Autistic-like phenotypes are present in both Fragile X syndrome (FXS) patients and FMRP-deficiency FXS models. Given that prefrontal cortex is a critical brain area for social interaction, the FMRP absence induced-changes of a subset of proteins might contribute to ASD in FXS. Using a comprehensive proteomic analysis, this study provides a prefrontal protein profile of the FMRP-absent mouse with a total of 100 differentially abundant proteins (DAPs). Bioinformatic analyses suggest that these DAPs are mainly involved in the regulations of immune system and complement and coagulation cascades. We also show that 6 upregulated proteins (SERPING1, C1QA, C3, FGA, FGB and FGG) in the complement and coagulation cascades are associated with fibrin degradation, cell lysis, degranulation chemotaxis and phagocytosis regarding dysregulation of immune and inflammatory responses in the prefrontal cortex. Histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) is the only member of the HDAC family that resides primarily in the cytoplasm with two catalytic domains and a ubiquitin-binding domain. HDAC6 is highly expressed in various solid tumors and participates in a wide range of biological activities, including hormone receptors, the p53 signaling pathway, and the kinase cascade signaling pathway due to its unique structural foundation and abundant substrate types. Additionally, HDAC6 can function as an oncogenic factor in solid tumors, boosting tumor cell proliferation, invasion and metastasis, drug resistance, stemness, and lowering tumor cell immunogenicity, so assisting in carcinogenesis. Pan-HDAC inhibitors for cancer prevention are associated with potential cardiotoxicity in clinical investigations. It's interesting that HDAC6 silencing didn't cause any significant harm to normal cells. Currently, the use of HDAC6 specific inhibitors, individually or in combination, is among the most promising therapies in solid tumors. This review's objective is to give a general overview of the structure, biological functions, and mechanism of HDAC6 in solid tumor cells and in the immunological milieu and discuss the preclinical and clinical trials of selective HDAC6 inhibitors. Pregnant women struggling with emotion dysregulation may be more likely to engage in a wide range of health risk behaviors. This protocol describes a study on intergenerational transmission of emotion dysregulation from the third trimester of pregnancy to 18 months postpartum. Biobehavioral markers of emotion dysregulation are typically measured in laboratory settings which was prohibited by many universities during the COVID-19 pandemic. We describe how markers of emotion dysregulation (e.g. maternal, fetal, and infant heart rate variability) are collected remotely. We detail how data collection can be augmented to reach diverse populations who may not otherwise participate in laboratory-based research.

Prenatal intrauterine exposures and postnatal caregiving environments may both shape the development of infant parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) activity. However, the relative contributions of prenatal and postnatal influences on infant respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA)-an index of PNS functioning-are relatively unknown. We examined whether prenatal and postnatal maternal emotion dysregulation, a transdiagnostic construct that spans mental health diagnoses, were independently related to infant RSA trajectories during a social stressor, the still-face paradigm. Our sample included 104 mothers and their 7-month-old infants. Maternal emotion dysregulation was measured with the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy and again at a 7-month postpartum laboratory visit. Infant RSA was recorded during the still-face paradigm. Only postnatal maternal emotion dysregulation was associated with infant RSA. Specifically, high postnatal emotion dysregulation was associated with a blunted (i.e., dampened reactivity and recovery) infant RSA response profile. Infant sex did not moderate the associations between maternal emotion dysregulation and infant RSA. Findings suggest that postnatal interventions to promote effective maternal emotion regulation may reduce risk for infants' dysregulated psychophysiological stress responses., (© 2022. Developmental venous anomaly (DVA) is one of the commonest vascular malformations in the brain but rarely symptomatic. Various pathomechanisms such as mechanical compression, increased in-flow into DVA or outflow obstruction have been described as causative factors in symptomatic DVAs. We report a unique case of a pontomedullary DVA with venous outflow obstruction causing progressive neurological worsening in a young adult despite anticoagulation, who was treated with a novel approach of venous outlet stenting of the collector vein with favorable outcome. In carefully selected cases, this endovascular treatment can be an effective and safe alternative when other measures fail.

This study tested whether newborn attention and arousal provide a foundation for the dynamics of respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) in mother-infant dyads. Participants were 106 mothers (M age  = 29.54) and their 7-month-old infants (55 males and 58 White and non-Hispanic). Newborn attention and arousal were measured shortly after birth using the NICU Network Neurobehavioral Scale. Higher newborn arousal predicted a slower return of infant RSA to baseline. Additionally, greater newborn attention predicted mothers' slower return to baseline RSA following the still-face paradigm, and this effect only held for mothers whose infants had lower newborn arousal. These findings suggest that newborn neurobehavior, measured within days of birth, may contribute to later mother-infant physiological processes while recovering from stress., (© 2022 The Authors.
