We study the spin chain model which captures the one-loop spectral problem of a prototypical example of an $\mathcal{N}=2$ SCFT in four dimensions. Up to date, this spin chain model remains unfathomable; the coordinate Bethe Ansatz does not lead to a solution from three magnons on, as the Yang-Baxter equation is not satisfied by the two-magnon scattering coefficients. In this paper, we find a long-range solution to the eigenvalue problem for three magnons. Remarkably, the scattering coefficients of our solution together with the position-dependent corrections, obey an infinite tower of Yang-Baxter equations. Our method of solving the three-magnon problem is interesting in its own right and generalizes the coordinate Bethe Ansatz approach to cases where the permutation symmetry is broken., Comment: 49 pages, 6 figures

This paper presents a strategy for efficient quantum circuit design for density estimation. The strategy is based on a quantum-inspired algorithm for density estimation and a circuit optimisation routine based on memetic algorithms. The model maps a training dataset to a quantum state represented by a density matrix through a quantum feature map. This training state encodes the probability distribution of the dataset in a quantum state, such that the density of a new sample can be estimated by projecting its corresponding quantum state onto the training state. We propose the application of a memetic algorithm to find the architecture and parameters of a variational quantum circuit that implements the quantum feature map, along with a variational learning strategy to prepare the training state. PLATO (PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of stars) is ESA's M3 mission designed to detect and characterise extrasolar planets and perform asteroseismic monitoring of a large number of stars. PLATO will detect small planets (down to <2 R_(Earth)) around bright stars (<11 mag), including terrestrial planets in the habitable zone of solar-like stars. With the complement of radial velocity observations from the ground, planets will be characterised for their radius, mass, and age with high accuracy (5 %, 10 %, 10 % for an Earth-Sun combination respectively). PLATO will provide us with a large-scale catalogue of well-characterised small planets up to intermediate orbital periods, relevant for a meaningful comparison to planet formation theories and to better understand planet evolution. It will make possible comparative exoplanetology to place our Solar System planets in a broader context. In parallel, PLATO will study (host) stars using asteroseismology, allowing us to determine the stellar properties with high accuracy, substantially enhancing our knowledge of stellar structure and evolution. The payload instrument consists of 26 cameras with 12cm aperture each. For at least four years, the mission will perform high-precision photometric measurements. Here we review the science objectives, present PLATO's target samples and fields, provide an overview of expected core science performance as well as a description of the instrument and the mission profile at the beginning of the serial production of the flight cameras. PLATO is scheduled for a launch date end 2026. This overview therefore provides a summary of the mission to the community in preparation of the upcoming operational phases.

This paper focuses on the opportunities and the ethical and societal risks posed by advanced AI assistants. We define advanced AI assistants as artificial agents with natural language interfaces, whose function is to plan and execute sequences of actions on behalf of a user, across one or more domains, in line with the user's expectations. The paper starts by considering the technology itself, providing an overview of AI assistants, their technical foundations and potential range of applications. It then explores questions around AI value alignment, well-being, safety and malicious uses. Extending the circle of inquiry further, we next consider the relationship between advanced AI assistants and individual users in more detail, exploring topics such as manipulation and persuasion, anthropomorphism, appropriate relationships, trust and privacy. With this analysis in place, we consider the deployment of advanced assistants at a societal scale, focusing on cooperation, equity and access, misinformation, economic impact, the environment and how best to evaluate advanced AI assistants. Finally, we conclude by providing a range of recommendations for researchers, developers, policymakers and public stakeholders.

Robotic systems are becoming pervasive and adopted in increasingly many domains, such as manufacturing, healthcare, and space exploration. To this end, engineering software has emerged as a crucial discipline for building maintainable and reusable robotic systems. The robotics software engineering research field has received increasing attention, fostering autonomy as a fundamental goal. However, robotics developers are still challenged to achieve this goal because simulation cannot realistically deliver solutions to emulate real-world phenomena. Robots also need to operate in unpredictable and uncontrollable environments, which require safe and trustworthy self-adaptation capabilities implemented in software. Typical techniques to address the challenges are runtime verification, field-based testing, and mitigation techniques that enable fail-safe solutions. However, no clear guidance exists for architecting ROS-based systems to enable and facilitate runtime verification and field-based testing. This paper aims to fill this gap by providing guidelines to help developers and quality assurance (QA) teams develop, verify, or test their robots in the field. These guidelines are carefully tailored to address the challenges and requirements of testing robotics systems in real-world scenarios. We conducted (i) a literature review on studies addressing runtime verification and field-based testing for robotic systems, (ii) mined ROS-based applications repositories, and (iii) validated the applicability, clarity, and usefulness via two questionnaires with 55 answers overall. We contribute 20 guidelines: 8 for developers and 12 for QA teams formulated for researchers and practitioners in robotic software engineering. Finally, we map our guidelines to open challenges in runtime verification and field-based testing for ROS-based systems, and we outline promising research directions in the field.

This article provides a comprehensive overview of recent research in the area of Child-Computer Interaction (CCI). The main contributions of the present article are two-fold. First, we present a novel longitudinal CCI database named ChildCIdbLong, which comprises over 600 children aged 18 months to 8 years old, acquired continuously over 4 academic years (2019-2023). As a result, ChildCIdbLong comprises over 12K test acquisitions over a tablet device. Different tests are considered in ChildCIdbLong, requiring different touch and stylus gestures, enabling evaluation of skills like hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, planning, and visual tracking, among others. In addition to the ChildCIdbLong database, we propose a novel quantitative metric called Test Quality (Q), designed to measure the motor and cognitive development of children through their interaction with a tablet device. In order to provide a better comprehension of the proposed Q metric, popular percentile-based growth representations are introduced for each test, providing a two-dimensional space to compare children's development with respect to the typical age skills of the population. The results achieved in the present article highlight the potential of the novel ChildCIdbLong database in conjunction with the proposed Q metric to measure the motor and cognitive development of children as they grow up. A dynamical mechanism, based on a confining non-abelian dark symmetry, which generates Majorana masses for hypercharge-less fermions, is proposed. We apply it to the inverse seesaw scenario, which allows to generate light neutrino masses from the interplay of TeV-scale Pseudo-Dirac mass terms and a small explicit breaking of lepton number. A single generation of vector-like dark quarks, transforming under a $\text{SU}(3)_\text{D}$ gauge symmetry, is coupled to a real singlet scalar, which serves as a portal between the dark quark condensate and three generations of heavy sterile neutrinos. Such a dark sector and the Standard Model (SM) are kept in thermal equilibrium with each other via sizeable Yukawa couplings to the heavy neutrinos. In this framework the lightest dark baryon, which has spin $3/2$ and is stabilized at the renormalizable level by an accidental dark baryon number symmetry, can account for the observed relic density via thermal freeze-out from annihilations into the lightest dark mesons. These mesons in turn decay to heavy neutrinos, which produce SM final states upon decay. In this letter we use a perturbative approach to find the spectrum of non-relativistic strings in the String Newton-Cartan (SNC) AdS$_5\times$S$^5$ spacetime. We perturb the bosonic sector of the action around a BMN-like folded string solution in light-cone gauge. We find strong evidence that the theory is described by a combination of massive and massless free fields in an anti-de Sitter background by showing that interaction terms up to six scalars vanish after field redefinitions., Comment: 11 pages

We present two alternative methods for optimizing minimum energy conical intersection (MECI) molecular geometries without knowledge of the derivative coupling (DC). These methods are based on the utilization of Lagrange multipliers: i) one method uses an approximate calculation of the DC, while the other ii) do not require the DC. Both methods use the fact that information of the DC is contained in the Hessian of the squared energy difference. Tests done on a set of small molecular systems, in comparison with other methods, show the ability of the proposed methods to optimize MECIs. Finally, we apply the methods to the furimamide molecule, to optimize and characterize its S$_1$ /S$_2$ MECI, and to optimizing the S$_0$ /S$_1$ MECI of the silver trimer.

This article proposes a novel Children-Computer Interaction (CCI) approach for the task of age group detection. This approach focuses on the automatic analysis of the time series generated from the interaction of the children with mobile devices. In particular, we extract a set of 25 time series related to spatial, pressure, and kinematic information of the children interaction while colouring a tree through a pen stylus tablet, a specific test from the large-scale public ChildCIdb database. A complete analysis of the proposed approach is carried out using different time series selection techniques to choose the most discriminative ones for the age group detection task: i) a statistical analysis, and ii) an automatic algorithm called Sequential Forward Search (SFS). In addition, different classification algorithms such as Dynamic Time Warping Barycenter Averaging (DBA) and Hidden Markov Models (HMM) are studied. Accuracy results over 85% are achieved, outperforming previous approaches in the literature and in more challenging age group conditions. We construct a new type of holographic correspondence between non-relativistic string theory in String Newton-Cartan AdS$_5\times$S$^5$ and Galilean Electrodynamics supplemented with 5 uncharged massless free scalar fields living on the 3+1 dimensional Penrose conformal boundary. In our derivation, we start with Maldacena's setting of a stack of $N$ coincident D3-branes and we show that the near-horizon/decoupling limit commutes with the non-relativistic limit, giving a unique answer both from the gravity and gauge theory perspectives. Two years on from the initial release of AlphaFold2 we have seen its widespread adoption as a structure prediction tool. Here we discuss some of the latest work based on AlphaFold2, with a particular focus on its use within the structural biology community. This encompasses use cases like speeding up structure determination itself, enabling new computational studies, and building new tools and workflows. Soft robots have immense potential given their inherent safety and adaptability, but challenges in soft actuator forces and design constraints have limited scaling up soft robots to larger sizes. Electrothermal shape memory alloy (SMA) artificial muscles have the potential to create these large forces and high displacements, but consistently using these muscles under a well-defined model, in-situ in a soft robot, remains an open challenge. This article provides a system for maintaining the highest-possible consistent SMA forces, over long lifetimes, by combining a fatigue testing protocol with a supervisory control system for the muscles' internal temperature state. We propose a design of a soft limb with swap-able SMA muscles, and deploy the limb in a blocked-force test to quantify the relationship between the measured maximum force at different temperatures over different lifetimes. Then, by applying an invariance-based control system to maintain temperatures under our long-life limit, we demonstrate consistent high forces in a practical task over hundreds of cycles. Acoustic local positioning systems (ALPSs) are an interesting alternative for indoor positioning due to certain advantages over other approaches, including their relatively high accuracy, low cost, and room-level signal propagation. Centimeter-level or fine-grained indoor positioning can be an asset for robot navigation, guiding a person to, for instance, a particular piece in a museum or to a specific product in a shop, targeted advertising, or augmented reality. In airborne system applications, acoustic positioning can be based on using opportunistic signals or sounds produced by the person or object to be located (e.g., noise from appliances or the speech from a speaker) or from encoded emission beacons (or anchors) specifically designed for this purpose. This work presents a review of the different challenges that designers of systems based on encoded emission beacons must address in order to achieve suitable performance. At low-level processing, the waveform design (coding and modulation) and the processing of the received signal are key factors to address such drawbacks as multipath propagation, multiple-access interference, nearfar effect, or Doppler shifting. With regards to high-level system design, the issues to be addressed are related to the distribution of beacons, ease of deployment, and calibration and positioning algorithms, including the possible fusion of information. Apart from theoretical discussions, this work also includes the description of an ALPS that was implemented, installed in a large area and tested for mobile robot navigation. In addition to practical interest for real applications, airborne ALPSs can also be used as an excellent platform to test complex algorithms, which can be subsequently adapted for other positioning systems, such as underwater acoustic systems or ultrawideband radiofrequency (UWB RF) systems.

This paper proposes a Simultaneous Calibration and Navigation (SCAN) algorithm of a multiple Ultrasonic Local Positioning Systems (ULPSs) that cover an extensive indoor area. The idea is the development of the same concept than SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping), in which a Mobile Robot (MR) estimates the map while it is navigating. The MR calibrates the beacons of several ULPSs while it is moving inside the localization area. The concept of calibration is the estimation of the position of the beacons referenced to a known map. The scenario is composed of some calibrated ULPSs that we denote as Globally Referenced Ultrasonic Local Positioning Systems (GRULPSs) that are located in strategic points like entrances covering the start and the end of a possible trajectory in the environment. Additionally, there are several non-calibrated ULPSs named Locally Referenced Ultrasonic Local Positioning Systems (LRULPSs) that are placed around the localization area. The proposal uses a MR with odometer for calibrating the beacons of the LRULPSs while it is navigating on their coverage area and go from one GRULPS to another. The algorithm is based on multiple filters running in parallel (one filter for each LRULPS and another one for the GRULPSs) that estimate the global and local trajectories of the MR (one trajectory for each local reference system of the LRULPSs) fusing the information related to the Ultrasound Signals (US) and the odometer of the MR. The position of the beacons of the LRULPSs are obtained by a transformation vector for each LRULPS that converts the local coordinates to the global reference system. Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) and H-Inf Filter have been tested, in simulations and real experiments, in order to compare their performance in this case.

With the increasing need for inclusive and user-friendly technology, web accessibility is crucial to ensuring equal access to online content for individuals with disabilities, including visual, auditory, cognitive, or motor impairments. Despite the existence of accessibility guidelines and standards such as Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and the Web Accessibility Initiative (W3C), over 90% of websites still fail to meet the necessary accessibility requirements. For web users with disabilities, there exists a need for a tool to automatically fix web page accessibility errors. While research has demonstrated methods to find and target accessibility errors, no research has focused on effectively correcting such violations. This paper presents a novel approach to correcting accessibility violations on the web by modifying the document object model (DOM) in real time with foundation models. Leveraging accessibility error information, large language models (LLMs), and prompt engineering techniques, we achieved greater than a 51% reduction in accessibility violation errors after corrections on our novel benchmark: ACCESS. Baryon number is an accidental symmetry of the Standard Model (SM) Lagrangian that so far has been measured to be exactly preserved, although it is expected to be violated at higher energies. In this work we compute order-of-magnitude estimates for the matching contributions of generic ultraviolet models to effective operators that generate nucleon decay processes. This is done in a systematic and automated way using operators constructed from SM fields up to dimension nine and working in a framework that has proved useful in the study of lepton-number violation. For each of the operators we derive estimates for the rates of different nucleon-decay channels. These allow us to establish model-independent lower bounds on the underlying new-physics scale and identify potential correlations between the various decay modes. The results are most relevant for genuine models that do not generate nucleon decay at a lower order. With just the Standard Model Higgs doublet, there are only three types of seesaw models that generate light Majorana neutrino masses at tree level after electroweak spontaneous symmetry breaking. However, if there exist additional TeV scalars acquiring vacuum expectation values, coupled with heavier fermionic multiplets, several new seesaw models become possible. These new seesaws are the primary focus of this study and correspond to the tree-level ultraviolet completions of the effective operators studied in a companion publication. We are interested in the genuine cases, in which the standard seesaw contributions are absent. In addition to the tree-level generation of neutrino masses, we also consider the one-loop contributions. Furthermore, we construct low-energy versions that exhibit a very rich phenomenology. Specifically, we scrutinise the generation of dimension-6 operators and explore their implications, including non-unitarity of the leptonic mixing matrix, non-universal $Z-$boson interactions, and lepton flavor violation. Baryon number is an accidental symmetry of the Standard Model at the Lagrangian level. Its violation is arguably one of the most compelling phenomena predicted by physics beyond the Standard Model. Furthermore, there is a large experimental effort to search for it including the Hyper-K, DUNE, JUNO, and THEIA experiments. Therefore, an agnostic, model-independent, analysis of baryon number violation using the power of Effective Field Theory is very timely. In particular, in this work we study the contribution of dimension six and seven effective operators to $|\Delta (B-L)|=0, \, 2$ nucleon decays taking into account the effects of Renormalisation Group Evolution. We obtain lower limits on the energy scale of each operator and study the correlations between different decay modes. The unique dimension-$5$ effective operator, $LLHH$, known as the Weinberg operator, generates tiny Majorana masses for neutrinos after electroweak spontaneous symmetry breaking. If there are new scalar multiplets that take vacuum expectation values (VEVs), they should not be far from the electroweak scale. Consequently, they may generate new dimension-$5$ Weinberg-like operators which in turn also contribute to Majorana neutrino masses. In this study, we consider scenarios with one or two new scalars up to quintuplet SU(2) representations. We analyse the scalar potentials, studying whether the new VEVs can be induced and therefore are naturally suppressed, as well as the potential existence of pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons. The TREX-DM detector, a low background chamber with microbulk Micromegas readout, was commissioned in the underground laboratory of Canfranc (LSC) in 2018. Since then, data taking campaigns have been carried out with Argon and Neon mixtures, at different pressures from 1 to 4 bar. By achieving a low energy threshold of 1 keV$_{ee}$ and a background level of 80 counts keV$^{-1}$ Kg$^{-1}$ day$^{-1}$ in the region from 1 to 7 keV$_{ee}$, the experiment demonstrates its potential to search for low-mass WIMPs. Two of the most important challenges currently faced are the reduction of both, background level and energy threshold. With respect to the energy threshold, recently a new readout plane is being developed, based on the combination of Micromegas and GEM technologies, aiming to have a pre-amplification stage that would permit very low energy thresholds, close to the single-electron ionization energy. With respect to the background reduction, apart from studies to identify and minimize contamination population, a high sensitivity alpha detector is being developed in order to allow a proper material selection for the TREX-DM detector components. The aim of this paper is to study the $p$-Frobenius vector of affine semigroups $S\subset \mathbb N^q$; that is, the maximum element, with respect to a graded monomial order, with at most $p$ factorizations in $S$. We produce several algorithms to compute these vectors. Finally, we study how the $p$-Frobenius vectors behave when considering gluings of $S$ with $\mathbb N^q$.

Generative AI systems produce a range of risks. To ensure the safety of generative AI systems, these risks must be evaluated. In this paper, we make two main contributions toward establishing such evaluations. First, we propose a three-layered framework that takes a structured, sociotechnical approach to evaluating these risks. This framework encompasses capability evaluations, which are the main current approach to safety evaluation. It then reaches further by building on system safety principles, particularly the insight that context determines whether a given capability may cause harm. To account for relevant context, our framework adds human interaction and systemic impacts as additional layers of evaluation. Second, we survey the current state of safety evaluation of generative AI systems and create a repository of existing evaluations. Three salient evaluation gaps emerge from this analysis. We propose ways forward to closing these gaps, outlining practical steps as well as roles and responsibilities for different actors. We study the Hilbert space of the Class 5 model described in arXiv:1904.12005. Despite being integrable, neither its transfer matrix nor its Hamiltonian are diagonalisable, meaning that the usual Algebraic Bethe Ansatz does not provide the full Hilbert space. Instead, we make use of the symmetries of the model to construct the Jordan blocks of the transfer matrix. Supply chain (SC) risk management is influenced by both spatial and temporal attributes of different entities (suppliers, retailers, and customers). Each entity has given capacity and lead time for processing and transporting products to downstream entities. Under disruptive events, lead time and capacities may vary, which affects the overall SC performance. There have been many studies on SC disruption mitigation, but often without considering lead time and the magnitude of lateness. In this paper, we formulate a mixed-integer programming (MIP) model to optimize SC operations via a routing and scheduling approach, to model the delivery time of products at different entities as they flow throughout the SC network. We minimize a weighted sum of multiple objectives involving costs related to transportation, shortage, and delivery lateness. We also develop a discrete-event simulation framework to evaluate the performance of solutions to the MIP model under lead time uncertainty. Via extensive numerical studies, we show how the attributes of SC entities affect the performance, so that we can improve SC design and operations under various uncertainties.

The aging population has led to a growing number of falls in our society, affecting global public health worldwide. This paper presents CareFall, an automatic Fall Detection System (FDS) based on wearable devices and Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods. CareFall considers the accelerometer and gyroscope time signals extracted from a smartwatch. Two different approaches are used for feature extraction and classification: i) threshold-based, and ii) machine learning-based. Experimental results on two public databases show that the machine learning-based approach, which combines accelerometer and gyroscope information, outperforms the threshold-based approach in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. Many attempts have been made to characterise and solve the infamous measurement problem of quantum mechanics by advocating, implicitly or explicitly, different realist perspectives. As a result, we are still uncertain where this problem and its corresponding solution are to be located in the realism-antirealism debate. The accurate computation of non-linear optical properties (NLOPs) in large polymers requires accounting for electronic correlation effects with a reasonable computational cost. The Random Phase Approximation (RPA) used in the adiabatic connection fluctuation theorem is known to be a reliable and cost-effective method to render electronic correlation effects when combined with the density-fitting techniques and the integration over imaginary frequencies. We explore the ability of the RPA energy expression to predict NLOPs by evaluating RPA electronic energies in the presence of finite electric fields to obtain (using the finite difference method) static polarizabilities and hyper-polarizabilities. We show that RPA based on hybrid functional self-consistent field calculations yields as accurate NLOPs as the best-tuned double-hybrid functionals developed today, with the additional advantage that RPA avoids any system-specific adjustment.
