The article analyzes, mainly on a statistical and quantitative basis, the characteristics and activities of the Genoa State Archive’s users between 1991 and 2016 in order to outline consolidated behavior patterns in the use of archival memory by individuals and communities.

Propolis is well known for its potential applications but also for its chemical complexity, making it very hard to define quality standards for its commercialization. Every day it is possible to find new publications on this bee product describing a new singularity, a particular substance with high bioactivity never described or a new application. This systematic increment in scientific information, although relevant, do not always enable a clear comparison between samples due to the different methods and procedures used to assess its quality parameters. To strength the scientific studies on propolis and establish a background for future definition of standards for industry, producers and laboratories, the Propolis Working group of the International Honey Commission, performed an inter-laboratory study to harmonize basic analytical methods and evaluate their accuracy and robustness. The collaborative study was accomplished by 12 laboratories from 9 countries and a company experienced in propolis trade. The samples under analysis, representing fifteen different origins around the globe, where fractionated and distributed to each laboratory, and so all participants analysed the same material. Overall, six parameters were evaluated: ashes, wax and balsamic extract on raw propolis, and total-phenolics, flavones and flavanones on propolis extract. The results were analysed following the international guidelines ISO 57251. Outliers were removed using Cochran’s test, to check the homogeneity of variances at certain levels, and Grubb test’s, to check the consistency of the laboratories average. The results revealed good reproducibility for ash, wax, balsamic content and flavones, while for flavanones the method is clearly unsuitable. Ex vivo fluorescence confocal microscopy (FCM) is a novel imaging technique that can be applied on freshly excised tumors for rapid bedside pathology for Mohs surgery and in general pathology. The first clinical application of FCM was on skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma, for which it has demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity for margin assessment. Later, FCM was applied on freshly excised specimens in general pathology and in particular on breast cancer samples. Preliminary studies highlighted the potential applicability of this fascinating new tool to characterize the tumor and obtain a rapid detection of residual tumor in surgical margins.

The digital reproduction of archival records involves different rights as the right of scientific reseaech, the right of free expression of thought but also the right to privacy. These rights must be carefully balanced. The relationship between them is analyzed in legal terms, under Italian legislation, and in technological terms, just about the use of the technologies of the digital reproduction of documents, with particular attention to the concepts of communication and dissemination of personal data. The paper shows that the existing regulation framework fully meets the needs of protection of privacy, including in relation to technological changes taking place. Finally it proposes strengthening instruments like the statement of informed consent and the elaboration of specific policies to ensure the highest possible protection. La riproduzione digitale dei documenti archivistici coinvolge un certo numero di diritti, quali il diritto alla ricerca scientifica, il diritto alla libera espressione di pensiero, ma anche il diritto alla privacy. Queste diverse tipologie di diritto vanno bilanciate attentamente. La relazione esistente tra esse viene analizzata dall'autore dal punto di vista legale, della normativa italiana, e da quello tecnologico, sull'uso delle tecnologie per la riproduzione digitale dei documenti, con una particolare attenzione ai concetti di comunicazione e disseminazione dei dati personali. L'articolo dimostra che il quadro normativo esistente accoglie tutti i rquisiti in tema di protezione della privacy, inclusi quelli legati ai mutamenti tecnologici in corso. Infine, l'autore propone alcuni strumenti rafforzativi per garantire il massimo livello di protezione, come il consenso informato e l'elaborazione di policy specifiche.

Our aim was to asses the association between the decrease of FEV1 and the modifications of the indices (PEF, MEF25, MEF50 and MEF75% of FVC) during methacholine challenge. 105 patients of both sexes with mild bronchial asthma were included in this study and were subjected to methacholine test according to ATS standards. The results were analysed using analysis of variance (MANOVA), discriminant stepwise and multiple regression. The reduction of FEV1 induced by increasing dosage of methacholine was associated with a significant decrease of the other flow-volume curve indices but we can observe a different flow behaviour. The MEF50 was more significant during the first level of variations and the MEF75 and MEF25 being more significant during the subsequent phases. We conclude that the evaluation of the flow volume indices can be important for better study the site of action of methacholine.
