Indian Journal of Natural Products and Resources (IJNPR) is a publication of the CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR). This study makes a bibliometric assessment of the papers published in the journal from 2010 to 2020. The data was collected from the website of the journal and was analysed using MS Excel. The bibliometric assessment examines the nature and distribution of documents by their types, the geographical distribution of the papers by countries, Indian states, institutions, and authors and the impact of their productivity as reflected by the citation indicators. In addition, the trend in authorship, citations and national and international collaboration was also examined. A total of 587 documents were published during the study period, of which the majority were original research articles. Analysis revealed that during the study period, contributions from 35 countries including India were published in the journal. Maximum contributions from India were from the state of Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. The study also found that only a small number of papers didn’t receive any citations but a substantial number of papers (17.7%) received 6-10 citations and about 1.7% of papers received 100 or more citations. The paper analysed 699 papers published in Library & Information Science Research (LISR) during the period of 1994-2020. Google Scholar was used to obtain the number of citations received by these papers until April 30, 2021. The study examined the geographical distribution of published articles and also identified prolific institutions and authors. The study examined the impact of output of countries, institutions and authors using citation per paper (CPP) and i-10 index as indicators of impact. The study also examined the pattern of growth and identified the highly cited papers. Based on the analysis of data it is observed that maximum articles were published during the three years block of 2015-2017. The geographical distribution of output indicates that 51 countries contributed the 699 papers. Highest number of papers was contributed by authors from the USA though it had a low value of CPP in comparison to Norway and Finland. Among the institutions, Florida State University (USA) topped the list. However, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA had the highest value of CPP. The paper is an analysis of 7,056 papers published by Indian scientists during 2001-2020 in the discipline of veterinary sciences. The study indicates that there is a steep decline in the Indian research output in veterinary sciences after the two years block of 2009-2010. Most of the prolific institutions except Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati were funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) published about 71% of the total output. Of these, Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar produced the highest number of papers and Central Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture (CIFA), Bhubaneswar had the highest value of CPP. Highest number of prolific authors was also from Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI). About three-fourth of the papers were published in low impact factor journals. Of the total published papers, about one-third remained uncited. All the highly cited papers were written either in domestic or international collaboration. About 45% papers were published in journals of Indian origin and the remaining papers in journals originating from other countries. The present study examines the publication delay in 10 scholarly journals published by the Indian Academy of Sciences. The study examined 2986 articles published in these ten journals in the years 2014 and 2018. The analysis shows that the publication delay varied with discipline and from one journal to another journal. The highest time delay was for the Proceedings of Mathematical Sciences (PMS) in 2014 as well as in 2018 and lowest for Current Science (7.1 ± 3.2 months) in 2014 and Journal of Chemical Science (JCS) in 2018. The total publication delay varied between (11.1± 5.3 months) and (12.8 ± 7.0 months) in 2014 and 2018, respectively. The study analyses papers published in DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology (DJLIT) using bibliometric techniques for the period of 1992-2019 (28 years) and citations received by these papers until 20th March 2020 as reflected by Google Scholar. The study examined the pattern of growth, geographical distribution of the articles; identified the prolific authors & institutions, and their output; and the pattern of citations of the papers and identified most cited authors. The findings indicate that the highest number of articles was published during 2012-2015 followed by 2016-2019. The distribution of output by countries indicates that 39 countries contributed 1,698 articles, including India. Indian authors published the highest percentage (86.1%) of articles followed by USA and had the highest value of CPP and RCI. Authors affiliated to different institutions of Delhi contributed the most (30.7%) followed by Karnataka (13.1%) and Maharashtra (10.5%). Among the institutions, DRDO-DESIDOC and CSIR-NISTADS topped the list. Among the 26 most prolific authors, B.M. Gupta (CSIR-NISTADS) published the maximum number of articles. However, B.R. Babu (University of Madras, Chennai) had the highest value of CPP and RCI. An analysis of 595 documents produced by Dr Hari Chand Sharma indicates that about 45 per cent of these were published as journal articles. Most of the research papers were published in journals originating from the UK, the USA and the Netherlands in medium impact factor journals. He has produced majority of his publications in collaboration with other scientists and had collaborated with more than 1,000 authors as indicated by high value of collaboration coefficient (0.66) and collaboration rate of 1.00 for considerable number of years. An analysis of primary documentary sources indexed by Library, Information Science and Technology Abstracts (LISTA) and Library and Information Science Abstracts (LISA) indicates that LISTA indexed 519 and LISA indexed 327 primary documentary sources. These sources mainly are scholarly or academic journals, magazines and trade journals. As proportion of total documentary sources, the share of scholarly journals indexed by LISA was more than LISTA. However, in absolute terms the journals indexed by LISTA were more than LISA. LISTA indexed scholarly journals from 37 countries and LISA indexed scholarly journals from 38 countries. LISA mainly emphasized indexing of scholarly periodicals as compared to LISTA, which also emphasized to index magazines. Of the total 646 scholarly titles indexed by LISTA and LISA, 131 titles were common to both databases. Maximum titles indexed by both the databases were published from USA and UK. An analysis of 4168 research papers on male breast cancer (MBC) published by different countries and indexed by Science Citation Index Expanded during 2005-2014 indicates that only 15% of the papers were non-collaborative and the rest were published either in domestic or international collaboration. The sub-field of MBC had a high proportion of domestic collaboration. The number of papers written with domestic collaboration was almost three times the number of papers written with international collaboration. The value of co-authorship index (CAI) decreased in single-, two- and multi-authored papers in the second block 2010-2014 as compared to the first block (2005- 2009). Higher value of CAI for mega-authored papers reflects higher collaborative coefficient (CC) in 2010-2014. The highest value of CC is for the sub-field S9 (genetics and heredity). This is also indicated by the highest value of CAI for mega-authored papers in this subfield. The study examines the change in pattern of impact factor and SCImago Journal Ranking (SJR) of the journal under study from 2008 to 2021 besides examining the pattern of growth of the number of papers. The study identified the most prolific actors (authors, institutions, and countries), besides examining their citation impact in terms of citation per paper & relative citation impact. The pattern of citation and highly cited papers have also been identified. Based on the analysis of data it is observed that the number of articles published was highest and almost equal in the years 2013, 2016, and 2017. Using the methodology of the complete count of records, it is observed that 56 countries contributed 2,939 articles. China followed by the USA published the highest number of papers. The value of CPP was highest for Universidad de Granada (Spain) and Leiden University (the Netherlands). Among the authors, Nees Jan van Eck and Ludo Waltman of the Leiden University had the highest CPP. Only a minuscule number of published articles remained uncited. Article authored by Aria, M. and Cuccurullo, C. published in issue 11(4), 2017, 959-975 of the journal received the highest number of citations. An analysis of 17,344 papers published by Indian scientists and indexed by Web of Science in the discipline of organic chemistry during 2004-2013 indicates that collaborative coefficient has increased during the later years (2011-2013). Of the total published papers, 6312 (36.4%) were due to domestic and international collaboration. The share of papers in domestic collaboration was 77.3% (4882) and international collaboration was 22.7% (1430). Among the international collaborating countries, India had published highest number of papers with the USA followed by Germany. Academic institutions followed by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) contributed the highest number of papers in domestic as well as in international collaboration. However, the value of domestic collaborative index and international collaborative index was less than 100 for both the sectors. The labs funded by CSIR also topped the list of institutions having domestic and international collaborative papers. The compound annual growth rate in domestic and international collaborative papers was 4.7 and 5.3 respectively. This part of the study highlights the contents of the published articles in terms of various disciplines or sub-disciplines and the bibliometric aspects discussed in these articles. The analysis of 902 papers published by Indian scholars during 1995-2014 indicates that the main focus of bibliometrics/scientometrics is on assessment of science and technology in India in different sub-disciplines including contributions by Indian states and other individual countries followed by bibliometric analysis of individual journals. Papers dealing with bibliometric laws received a low priority as compared to other sub-disciplines of bibliometrics/scientometrics. The analysis of data indicates that the share of theoretical studies using mathematical and statistical techniques which were missing in the earlier period (1970-1994) has increased during 1995-2014. An analysis of 4165 papers published during 2005-2014 on male breast cancer and indexed by Science Citation Index-Expanded indicates that the publication output in this nascent field is increasing steadily. The output is scattered among 91 countries, and USA ranks first in the publication output as well as impact in terms of citations per paper (CPP) and relative citation impact (RCI). The global compound annual growth rate during the period of study is 6.2. Change in transformative activity index is highest for the People's Republic of China (PRC). However, impact of research output is low for PRC. The research output is highly scattered in terms of prolific institutions, authors and journals publishing research results. Most of the prolific institutions are located in USA. Among the prolific institutions, the highest value of CPP and RCI was for Massachusetts General Hospital (USA), and among authors the highest value of CPP and RCI was for Thompson D. from the University of Cambridge (England). An analysis of 2428 papers indexed by Indian citation Index during 2004-2015 indicate that the pattern of growth of Indian library and information science literature has been highly inconsistent with highest number of papers published in 2010. Academic institutions contributed about 86% of papers. Prolific institutions contributed about 44% of the output, with Mysore University topping the list closely followed by University of Delhi. However, highest impact as reflected by citation per paper was made by CSIR-NISTADS and CSIR-NISCAIR. B.M. Gupta of CSIR-NISTADS topped the list, but highest CPP was for K.C.Garg of the same institute. An analysis of 801 papers published in the area of bibliometrics and scientometrics during 1995-2014 indicates a steep increase in the number of papers published by Indian researchers as compared to the number of papers published during 1970-1994. This indicates a growing interest of Indian scholars in scientometrics and bibliometrics. The paper provides several reasons for this steep increase. The main focus of research is on bibliometric assessment of India and other countries followed by cross national assessment and bibliometric analysis of individual journals. CSIR-NISTADS is the top producing institute contributing about one-third (31.4%) of the total output followed by the output of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and CSIR-NISCAIR. The distribution of citation data indicates that about one-fifth (21.7%) papers remained uncited. The paper identifies journals in which these uncited papers were published. Only 15% papers were cited more than 20 times. Most of the prolific authors as well as highly cited authors were from the institutions belonging to the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. Publishing in scholarly peer-reviewed journals causes long delays from submission to its subsequent publication. This may be due to the long peer-review process or backlog of manuscripts waiting in line in the journals. The present study examines the publication delay in 13 journals published by CSIR-NISCAIR at three different stages. These were delays between receipt of manuscript and its revision, editorial delay, revision and its subsequent publication, i.e. technical delay, and the total delay. The study examined 1223 articles published in these 13 journals in the year 2015, except for 1 journal for which data for 2104 have been used. The analysis indicates that the publication delay varied from one discipline to another and from one journal to another journal. The highest time delay was found to be for the Indian Journal of Chemical Technology, and lowest for the Indian Journal of Chemistry – A. The paper analyses publication output of India on cereal crops as reflected by its coverage in Scopus international database during 1965-2010 in gaps of five years. Analysis indicates that highest number of papers (40%) was published on rice, followed by wheat (29%). Agricultural universities and institutions under the aegis of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) were most productive. A significant number of papers were published in journals originating from the advanced countries with low impact factor. The highest number of papers was published in Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, followed by Indian Journal of Agronomy. Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi topped the list among the prolific institutions followed by Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The major research was focused on 'genetics and plant breeding' followed by 'agronomic aspects'. The authorship pattern reveals that co-authored papers accounted for 94% of total output. The present study examines editorial gatekeeping in journals published by CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (CSIR-NISCAIR) in terms of their distribution by locations, affiliations and by gender. The study observes that the editorial board members are located at places which are centers of Indian science and are affiliated to most prestigious and prolific institutes of India and abroad. The aim of this study is to examine the time lag between the receipt of paper and its subsequent publication in the journal, the structure of the IPR literature, type of documents cited by the papers and identification of core journals in the field of IPR using Bradford's law. The study also identifies the place of origin of the cited journals and the disciplines with which these dealt. The analysis indicates that the average time lag between receipt and its consequent publication is about 4 months. Highest number of papers is published in the sub-discipline of intellectual property rights and its related aspects. Nearly 40 journals constitute the core of the cited journals. An analysis of 35,640 papers published by Indian scientists as journal articles and reviews in journals indexed by Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E) in 2008 revealed that 6231 (17.5%) papers remained uncited during 2008-2013. Most of the uncited papers were published by State Agricultural Universities and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The highest proportion of uncited papers was in the discipline of agricultural sciences followed by multidisciplinary and mathematical sciences. These uncited papers appeared in journals published from India, Singapore, Romania and Japan with low impact factor (IF). The study presents an analysis of the number of articles published in Annals of Library and Information Studies (ALIS) and DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology (DJLIT) during 2010-2013 and the citations obtained by these articles during 2010-2014 (April) using Google. The study develops immediacy index and impact factor of the two journals, besides, identifying the highly cited authors/papers. Findings reveal that DJLIT published more papers than ALIS and also received more citations. However, citation per paper for both the journals is almost equal. An analysis of 2074 papers indexed by Science Citation Index-Expanded and published by different countries on various aspects of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) during 1991 to 2010 indicates that JE is a highly collaborative discipline as judged by the values of co-authorship index and the collaborative coefficient for different countries and different sub-fields. Of the total published papers, about two-third were written in collaboration. Of these, 214 (10 %) were written with local collaboration, 700 (34 %) with domestic collaboration and 478 (23 %) with international collaboration. Among all the countries, USA is the most important partner country for all the collaborating countries. The study indicates that the share of collaborative papers increased almost four times in 2001-2010 as compared to 1991-2000. USA, Japan, Taiwan and India produced about 70 % of domestically co-authored papers. USA also had the largest number (21 %) of the internationally co-authored articles. Among 17 highly collaborative institutions, the highest (six) are from India, and Liverpool University (UK) had the highest number of internationally collaborative papers, followed by Centre of Disease Control and Prevention (USA). The paper analyses scientific output of India in the discipline of crop sciences as reflected by the coverage of scientific output in three different databases i.e. SCOPUS, CAB Abstracts and ISA (Indian Science Abstracts) during 2008-2010. The analysis indicates that highest number of papers was published on rice and wheat crop. Agricultural universities and institutions under the aegis of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) were most productive institutions. Most of the papers were published in Indian journals with low impact factor. Environment and Ecology, Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences and Research on Crops were the most preferred journals used by the Indian scientists. The major research is focused on 'genetics and plant breeding' followed by 'soil, climate and environmental aspects' and 'agronomic aspects'. This paper analyses 605 papers published in the Journal of Intellectual Property Rights during 1996-2012, which indicates that the inflow of papers has increased during the period of study. The increasing inflow of articles show the popularity of journal among the scientific community as well as policy makers. The study shows that number of references per paper is increasing and the average reference per paper is 23. The proportion of single authored papers is decreasing, while the share of multi-authored papers is on the rise. About one-fourth of the papers published in the journal are from abroad and the rest from India. Among foreign countries US is the largest contributor. Among the performing sectors, academic institutions are the largest contributors to the journal followed by research institutions. The paper examines the coverage of environment-related issues published in 31 prominent English-language Indian newspapers in terms of their quantification and thematic representation. Among all the topics discussed under environment, climate change and global warming got the highest priority with 75% items which constituted more than two third (77%) of the total space occupied by environmental issues. Of these, highest number of items was on adverse impacts of global warming / climate change followed by those on mitigation. An analysis of letters published by top 10 publishing countries in journals indexed by Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) during 1987-89, 1997-99 and 2007-09 indicates that the letters published by developed countries including China have declined as proportion of their total output. The number of letters published by Indian scientists has remained constant during the three blocks. These letters were scattered in a large number of journals published from advanced countries of the world and India. The letters came from more than 1000 institutions located in different parts of the country. Various methods have been suggested in the literature to normalise the impact factor of journals. However, these methods have their own limitations. Analysis of 32,574 papers published by USA, UK, China, India and Brazil in the field of 'plant genetics and breeding' research during 2005-2009 indicates that USA produced the highest number of publications followed by China. The impact of research output as seen by the values of different impact indicators is highest for UK. The sub-domains of emphasis of research shifted in 2009 as compared to 2005 for all countries. India contributed about 9 percent to the world publication output. Indian output formed a part of the mainstream science as seen by the pattern of publication and citation of the research output. The total Indian output originated from 1,806 institutions located in different parts of the country. About 41 percent of the total Indian output was concentrated among 23 institutions. Among the institutions, international institutes located in India had the highest impact. An analysis of 2899 papers published by Indian scientists during 1991-2008 and indexed by Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E) indicates that the growth of publication output was slow in the initial stages, which started increasing after 2000. The highest output was in the sub-field of molecular genetics. The organisms which received the maximum priority were humans, plants, and animals. A significant proportion of papers were published in journals that originated from the advanced countries of the West and in journals with impact factor >1. About 47% papers were cited more than 5 times. Academic institutions contributed the highest number of papers but had less impact as compared to other performing sectors. The papers published by Indian Council of Agriculture Research had the lowest impact. The Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC), an organ of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, promotes research in new and emerging areas of science and engineering by way of extending financial support to different agencies. During the financial year 1999-2000, SERC provided financial support amounting to approximately Rs 551 million to 270 project investigators in various disciplines of science and engineering. The present article examines the publication output of these investigators using SCI CD-ROM for the years 2000-02 and the citations received by these papers during 2000-03. Activity and attractivity profile of different agencies in different disciplines and their impact based on different impact indicators like citation per paper and relative quality index have been studied. A detailed assessment of Indian patenting activity over the period 1990-2002 was undertaken by (a) examining patents granted by the US, European and Indian Patent Office; (b) delineating patents under various types, i.e. entity-wise (Indian organizations, foreign R&D centres in India, resident individuals), proprietary protections (utility, design, plant patents), organization-wise (industry, research organizations, specialized institutions, etc.), industrial sector-wise, category-wise (process/product), etc.; (c) assessing impact through citation analysis, and (d) benchmarking with patents activity of some developed and developing countries. Patent filing through the Patent Cooperation Treaty and patenting during the period 2003-04 in the US was analysed. The strategic options for commercialization of patents were also investigated. An analysis of 11067 papers published by Indian scientists and indexed by Science Citation Index (SCI) CD-ROM for the year 1997 indicates that academic institutions (universities and colleges) are the major contributors to the scientific publications output. Major contribution came from 29 institutions, which contributed about 45% of the total Indian scientific output. Based on the values of different impact indicators (normalized impact per paper, publication effective index and relative quality index) TIFR outperforms all other institutions on different impact indicators. Fifty seven percent of the output is concentrated in physical sciences, chemical and medical sciences. Indian scientists widely publish their findings in journals published from the scientifically advanced countries of the West. The article focuses on the poor citation of Indian science journals. It says that only 46 out of 1000 Indian science periodicals were indexed by multidisciplinary database Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE). It states that 39% of 5317 articles and reviews found in 46 Indian science periodicals were cited in January 2006 to June 2009. It adds that poor citation is caused by poor circulation, reduced frequency of publication, and non-availability of said periodicals in the Open Access mode.

The article presents information on the coverage of scienceand technology (S&T) in English-language dailies in India. It looks at the distribution of topics of various fields in such newspapers. A table depicting the space that had been allocated for S&T articles in Indian newspapers such as "The Times of India", "The Statesman" and "Mail Today" from April 1, 2008 to September 30, 2008 is presented. It is suggested that citizens will be better informed if they are given more exposure to science news. and technology (S&T) in English-language dailies in India is presented.

An analysis of 5317 articles and reviews published in 46 Indian science journals indexed by Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) during 2006 indicated that these journals predominantly published domestic papers. About 40 percent of the papers published in these journals were cited in the international literature during January 2006-June 2009. The proportion of cited papers and the rate of citation varied for domestic, foreign and collaborative papers, as well as among disciplines and publishers. The analysis indicated that collaborative papers had the highest rate of citation per paper. The Indian Journal of Medical Research published by Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi had the highest citation impact. A letter to the editor is presented in response to the article regarding the ranking of the universities and colleges based on their research performance in India.

The article reports on the results of an analysis of the scientific publication output in India in 2006.

The article presents a correspondence which provides the national distribution of editorial board members of 878 published clinical journals in the U.S. and Great Britain. It says that the data gathered has been collected from the ISI Web of Knowledge and were compiled by country-wide counting and pooling. Furthermore, it notes that the distribution of editorial board members of various countries is uneven like the distribution of its output.

Examination of 2450 papers published by foreign authors in 284 Indian science journals from 1311 institutions spread over 102 countries indicates that Asian countries are the largest contributors to these journals. Turkey, USA, Iran, China and Nigeria contributed to about 48% of the total foreign-authored publications. Most of the prolific institutions are situated in Turkey and Iran. The largest numbers of contributions are in the discipline of medicine followed by chemistry and material science. The author reflects on Mausam, a journal that publishes results of original scientific research in the field of meteorology and atmospheric sciences. He argues that the journal is not being indexed by the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E) despite being published for more than 50 years. He suggests that the journal needs to include scientists and researchers from abroad and needs to change its name in English, so that it would have larger circulation.

An analysis of 369 items published in Mausam during 2003-2006 indicates that 72% items were papers, 23% letters to the editor, 4% report on "Weather in India" and the rest 1% as articles. Indian researchers belonging to India Meteorological Department contributed most of the items. Climatology, agricultural and environmental meteorology, synoptic meteorology, hydrometeorology, numerical weather forecasting and physical meteorology constituted about 56 % of the total output. Time lag between receipt and acceptance of the manuscript is about 11 months, while the time lag between acceptance and publication of the manuscript is about 9. Editorial board members belonged to domestic institutions. The references cited by the journal are mostly international like other journals in the field. However, majority of the citations are older than 10 years. Based on the pattern of citations the journal received in the international literature its impact factor for 2005 and 2006 is almost the same (0.19). An abstract of the study "A Preliminary Scientometric Investigation of Malaria Research," by K. C. Garg, B. Dutt and Suresh Kumar, is presented.

The paper analyses publication output of India on cereal crops as reflected by its coverage in Indian Science Abstracts (ISA) and CAB Abstracts during 1965-2010.The analysis indicates that highest number of papers (43.80%) was published on rice, followed by wheat (24.28%). Agricultural universities and institutions under aegis of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) were most productive. Most of the papers were published in Indian journals with low impact factor. The highest number of papers was published in Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, followed by Indian Journal of Agronomy, Madras Agricultural Journaland Journal of Maharashtra Agricultural University. Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi,Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatoreand Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhianacontributed about 7% of papers each. The major research was focused on 'genetic and plant breeding' (28.2%) followed by 'agronomic aspects' (27.9%) and pest, diseases and pest control (19.7%). The authorship pattern reveals that co-authored papers accounted for 90% of total output. Citation analysis of the study using Google scholar reveals that 57% of the papers remained uncited and 36.8% papersreceived citations ranging from 1 to 10.Highest number of citations were received by papers published in Indian Journal of Agronomy(1446), followed by Indian Journal of Agricultural Science (1211), Euphytica (1109) and Theoretical and Applied Genetics (1000). An analysis of 17,344 papers published by Indian scientists and indexed by Web of Science in the discipline of organic chemistry and its sub-disciplines during 2004-2013 indicates that the Indian output has increased significantly in the later period. Academic institutions contributed about 46% of the total output followed by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) with 26% of the total output. The most prolific institutions among them mainly belonging to academic institutions and CSIR contributed about 60% of the total output. The value of citation per paper for most of the prolific institutions was higher than the Indian average. Similar trend was observed for the relative citation impact. Indian researchers in the discipline of organic chemistry published their papers in international journals with impact factor greater than 1. Examines the R&D efforts in the field of forest mycology (study of fungi) with a primary focus on the global trends of publication output and its citation impact for the papers published during 1987-2008. The results indicate that number of publications have increased significantly especially during 2004 -2008. A total of 3313 publications scattered over 619 journal titles originating from 50 countries and 839 institutions indicates that USA tops the list in the publication output, while Sweden does in the citation impact. An analysis of 2,183 papers published by Chinese researchers and 1,034 papers published by Indian researchers in the field of plant-based medicine during 1990-2004 and indexed by Pub Med indicates that China's output is more than twice to India's output. Medical universities and colleges mainly contribute to China's output, while academic institutions mainly contribute to the Indian output. The major focus of Chinese researchers was on chemical analysis including chromatographic and spectrometric investigations, followed by oncology/radiation protection. Indian researchers emphasized gastroenteritis/liver diseases and oncology/radiation protection. The investigations were mainly focused on native plants of respective countries. Chinese researchers preferred to publish their work in domestic journals; Indian researchers in journals published from the Western countries. The share of papers in journals covered by SCI for India was higher than that from China. However, the proportion of papers in high impact factor journals for China is higher than for India.
