Abstract The genus Spiribacter encompasses halophilic bacteria widely distributed in hypersaline environments worldwide. Despite their ecological significance, initially isolating Spiribacter species under laboratory settings was challenging due to the lack of knowledge of their growth and cultivation requirements. However, with improved understanding of their ecological niche and metabolic pathways, additional species of Spiribacter have been successfully isolated and identified from diverse locations around the globe. Enriched media with sodium pyruvate as carbon source facilitated the isolation of twelve new strains closely related to the genus Spiribacter from hypersaline environments in Spain. Genome sequencing and analysis of these new strains and previously described Spiribacter species provided insights into their genomic features and phylogenomic relationships, supporting the delineation of three distinct new species within this genus, designated as Spiribacter insolitus sp. nov., Spiribacter onubensis sp. nov., and Spiribacter pallidus sp. nov. In Spiribacter species, streamlined genomes enhance survival in hypersaline environments by reducing non-essential genes and optimizing resource utilization. Key genes involved in osmoprotectant mechanisms, including those for the metabolism of myo-inositol, hydroxyproline, and L-proline, were identified and numerous transporters were noted, ensuring efficient nutrient acquisition and osmotic balance. Notably, these new species, along with other Spiribacter strains, exhibit metabolic diversity in utilizing inorganic sulfur compounds, including thiosulfate and tetrathionate, for energy production and adaptation to hypersaline environments. The presence of thiosulfate dehydrogenase (TsdA) genes suggests their capability to oxidize thiosulfate to tetrathionate, potentially influencing both aerobic and anaerobic respiration. Furthermore, the prevalence of the sqr gene indicates a role for sulfide oxidation in Spiribacter metabolism, underlining their metabolic versatility in saline habitats. These adaptations allow Spiribacter to thrive in nutrient-limited, high-salinity habitats. Moreover, genome mining analysis and physiological disparities observed in the already described species Spiribacter halobius raise significant challenges to its classification within the genus Spiribacter.

Abstract The importance of incorporating lumbo-pelvic stability core and controlling motor exercises in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP) reinforces the use of strategies to improve biopsychosocial beliefs by reducing biomedical postulations. However, clinical practice guidelines recommend multimodal approaches incorporating exercise and manual therapy (MT), and instead reject the application of kinesiotape (KT) in isolation. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to analyze the effects of 12 weeks of exercises combined with MT or KT on perceived low back pain using the visual analog scale (VAS) and muscle electric activity measured with electromyography (EMG) of the rectus abdominis and multifidus in CLBP (mild disability) and to explore the relationship between the rectus abdominis and multifidus ratios and pain perception after intervention. A blinded, 12-week randomized controlled trial (RCT) was carried out, involving three parallel groups of patients with CLBP. The study was registered at Clinicaltrial.gov and assigned the identification number NCT05544890 (19/09/22). The trial underwent an intention-to-treat analysis. The primary outcome revealed a multimodal treatment program supplemented by additional therapies such as MT and KT, resulting in significant reductions in perceived low back pain. The subjective assessment of individuals with CLBP indicated no discernible distinction between exclusive core stability exercises and control-motor training when combined with MT or KT. Notably, our findings demonstrated positive alterations in both the mean and peak EMG values of the right rectus abdominis in the exercise group, suggesting a beneficial impact on muscle activation. This study focused on assessing the activation levels of the trunk musculature, specifically the rectus abdominis (RA) and multifidus (MF), in individuals with CLBP exhibiting mild disability according to the Oswestry Disability Index. Importantly, improvements in the VAS values were observed independently of changes in muscle electrical activity.

Abstract Low back pain is a widespread public health concern owing to its high prevalence rates according to the Global Burden of Diseases. This study aimed to investigate the effect of exercise alone or in combination with manual therapy and kinesiotherapy on pain sensitivity, disability, kinesiophobia, self-efficacy, and catastrophizing in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP). A total of 55 participants were enrolled and randomly allocated to one of three groups: (1) exercise alone group (ET; n = 19), (2) exercise + manual therapy group (ETManual therapy; n = 18), and (3) exercise + kinesio tape group (ETkinesiotape; n = 18). The interventions consisted of core stabilization exercises (ET group), prior spinal manipulation with core exercises (ETManual therapy group), and combined application of kinesiotape plus core stabilization exercises (ETkinesiotape group). The primary outcome was disability. The secondary outcomes were pain sensitization, kinesiophobia, catastrophizing, and self-efficacy. Assessments were performed at baseline and at weeks 3, 6, and 12. All therapies applied achieved significant improvements over time after 12 weeks in all parameters analyzed. ETmanualtherapy showed the greatest changes in all variables, with significant differences from the rest of the interventions in Oswestry (ODI) (3 and 6 weeks, respectively). A clinically significant cutoff point was achieved for the ETmanualtherapy group in the ODI parameter (−54.71%, −63.16% and −87.70% at 3, 6, and 12 weeks, respectively). Manual therapy prior to the core exercise technique was the most effective approach to improve health-related functionality compared with exercise alone or exercise combined with kinesiotape in patients with CLBP. La participación en actividades físico-deportivas extraescolares contribuye al cumplimento de las recomendaciones de actividad física en los adolescentes, pudiendo tener una influencia directa en la salud. El objetivo del estudio fue analizar la realización de actividades físico-deportivas extraescolares, evaluando su relación con diversos hábitos de vida e indicadores de salud física y psicosocial, así como la influencia de diferentes variables sociodemográficas. El estudio se llevó a cabo sobre una muestra de 761 estudiantes (14,51±1,63 años) de 25 centros educativos. Se valoró la realización de actividades físico-deportivas extraescolares, nivel de actividad física, horas de sueño nocturno, adherencia a la dieta mediterránea, consumo máximo de oxígeno, índice de masa corporal, calidad de vida relacionada con la salud, autoestima, satisfacción con la imagen corporal y diversos factores sociodemográficos. Tener menor edad, ser chico, poseer un nivel socioeconómico alto, haber nacido en España, residir en entornos urbanos y estar satisfecho con la imagen corporal fueron predictores de la realización de actividades físico-deportivas extraescolares. Estos factores explicaron en un 19,2% la participación físico-deportiva. Asimismo, los adolescentes que practicaban estas actividades presentaron menores tasas de sobrepeso/obesidad y valores más altos de adherencia a la dieta mediterránea, actividad física, calidad de vida relacionada con la salud, autoestima y consumo máximo de oxígeno. La práctica de actividad físico-deportiva extraescolar está influenciada por múltiples factores que deberían ser tenidos en cuenta para su promoción.

Existe evidencia de que gran parte del cambio climático es causado por las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero (GHG), siendo la vitivinicultura una de las actividades responsables. El uso del combustible en la maquinaria agrícola, el empleo de fertilizantes y el consumo de energía en las bodegas, entre otros motivos, contribuyen a estas emisiones. A su vez, el sector del vino es uno de los más vulnerables por su estrecha interacción con las condiciones ambientales, y concretamente en España es especialmente sensible por su situación geográfica y sus características socioeconómicas. Por tanto, el cambio climático constituye uno de los retos ambientales más importantes para este sector, y la puesta en marcha de medidas de mitigación y adaptación se plantea como una posible solución para cumplir con los objetivos de 2020 y favorecer la transición hacia una economía baja en carbono. El objetivo de este trabajo es ofrecer un panorama de los principales impactos ambientales provocados por la vitivinicultura y presentar las medidas de mitigación más comunes que permiten gestionar dichos impactos. Este trabajo pretende servir de guía de buenas prácticas para todas aquellas bodegas que han tomado conciencia de la importancia de llevar a cabo acciones concretas para aliviar el cambio climático.

La relevancia del sector vitivinícola en España y su conexión con el desarrollo del entorno rural, así como la preocupación de la población por los aspectos medioambientales y sociales, justifican el creciente interés por incorporar prácticas verdes y sostenibles en el turismo del vino. Además, dentro de los enoturistas existe un segmento cada vez más creciente que demanda servicios y destinos turísticos responsables con el medio ambiente y la sociedad, en general. Teniendo en consideración esta demanda creciente, las bodegas deberían atender este segmento de consumidores que reclaman un turismo de vino sostenible. Para poder llevar a cabo una sólida iniciativa enoturista sostenible, este trabajo propone un marco teórico basado en un enfoque multinivel, que incluye además de las tradicionales perspectivas multi-stakeholders y multi-motivacional, una perspectiva multi-dimensional que recoge los aspectos claves del concepto de sostenibilidad, es decir, el económico, el social y el medioambiental.

Anterior tibial tuberosity fracture avulsion is an uncommon injury. A concomitant patellar rupture is even more scarcely encountered. We report the case of a 14-year-old male patient who suffered bilateral anterior tuberosity fractures with concomitant bilateral complete patellar tendon rupture. Adolescence, athletic activity, and high BMI may have contributed to this concomitant bilateral injury. Both lesions were treated in a one-stage repair surgery, performing an open reduction and internal fixation of the tibial tuberosity with a cannulated cortical screw and a primary tendon suture following the Krakow technique. To the authors’ knowledge, no other cases of bilateral presentation of both lesions have been reported so far in the literature.

Abstract Background The availability of soil phosphorus (P) often limits the productivities of wet tropical lowland forests. Little is known, however, about the metabolomic profile of different chemical P compounds with potentially different uses and about the cycling of P and their variability across space under different tree species in highly diverse tropical rainforests. Results We hypothesised that the different strategies of the competing tree species to retranslocate, mineralise, mobilise, and take up P from the soil would promote distinct soil 31P profiles. We tested this hypothesis by performing a metabolomic analysis of the soils in two rainforests in French Guiana using 31P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). We analysed 31P NMR chemical shifts in soil solutions of model P compounds, including inorganic phosphates, orthophosphate mono- and diesters, phosphonates, and organic polyphosphates. The identity of the tree species (growing above the soil samples) explained > 53% of the total variance of the 31P NMR metabolomic profiles of the soils, suggesting species-specific ecological niches and/or species-specific interactions with the soil microbiome and soil trophic web structure and functionality determining the use and production of P compounds. Differences at regional and topographic levels also explained some part of the the total variance of the 31P NMR profiles, although less than the influence of the tree species. Multivariate analyses of soil 31P NMR metabolomics data indicated higher soil concentrations of P biomolecules involved in the active use of P (nucleic acids and molecules involved with energy and anabolism) in soils with lower concentrations of total soil P and higher concentrations of P-storing biomolecules in soils with higher concentrations of total P. Conclusions The results strongly suggest “niches” of soil P profiles associated with physical gradients, mostly topographic position, and with the specific distribution of species along this gradient, which is associated with species-specific strategies of soil P mineralisation, mobilisation, use, and uptake.

El cambio climático, el efecto invernadero, el agujero de la capa de ozono, la acidificación del suelo y el agua, el agotamiento de los recursos no renovables y la contaminación de las aguas y de los suelos son factores que han aumentado la conciencia ecológica de la población. El sector vitivinícola es uno de los mejores sensores para detectar los cambios en la evolución del clima y de las temperaturas y tiene plena conciencia de que esos cambios pueden afectar a la calidad de sus vinos. En este sentido, los consumidores de vino no son ajenos al problema medioambiental y un número de ellos cada vez más creciente, prefiere consumir productos obtenidos con métodos de cultivo y elaboración absolutamente compatibles y respetuosos con el medio ambiente. Los consumidores de este tipo de vino están creando una “demanda de virtud” para los productores, que se ven en la necesidad de incorporan medidas que colaboren con el cuidado del medio ambiente. Por tanto, aquellas bodegas que intenten minimizar las consecuencias sociales que provoca la producción de vino con los sistemas actuales, y que utilicen métodos que reduzcan sus emisiones de gases y residuos, y gestionen su agua y su energía de un modo eficiente, podrían acreditarse como proveedores sostenibles de cara a sus clientes, compradores y consumidores y conseguir así un posicionamiento ventajoso para este tipo de agentes. Este trabajo, a través de encuestas, pretende conocer si las bodegas españolas poseen la conciencia medioambiental que demanda una parte de sus consumidores, así como el grado de compromiso que han adquirido en esta cuestión. En caso de existir diferencias significativas entre las bodegas, un segundo objetivo será establecer una clasificación de las mismas según su grado de responsabilidad en función de las medidas adoptadas de mitigación del cambio climático y de mejora de la eficiencia energética, así como, caracterizarlas a partir de sus tipologías geográficas, su nivel de actividad, su percepción de los aspectos ambientales, etc. Para ello, se utilizan conjuntamente las técnicas estadísticas multivariantes del análisis factorial y análisis clúster, que permitirán construir un conjunto de indicadores para describir tipologías de bodegas frente a su responsabilidad con aspectos medioambientales y, posteriormente, a partir de la información proporcionada por estos indicadores, identificar grupos de bodegas similares en su grado de compromiso con esta cuestión.

La energía utilizada en agricultura es fuente de emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero. Para reducir las producidas por el uso de gasóleo y electricidad, el proyecto europeo LIFE REWIND aborda el suministro desde fuentes renovables. Para ello, se ha caracterizado la demanda energética y recursos renovables en viñedo y bodega. Se ha buscado el diseño óptimo económico y medioambiental de la generación. Se ha instalado un prototipo en una explotación vitivinícola, con generación fotovoltaica, incluyendo un conjunto flotante sobre una balsa. Esto evita el uso de terreno, reduce la pérdida de agua de la balsa y mejora el rendimiento de los paneles fotovoltaicos. La electricidad producida alimenta la depuración de agua y el bombeo de riego por goteo del viñedo. Con la energía sobrante, un electrolizador produce hidrógeno mediante electrólisis del agua, que es utilizado por un vehículo todoterreno con pila de combustible. Los resultados muestran la viabilidad técnica y económica de los sistemas autónomos de energía renovable para alimentar el riego estacional en los viñedos. Así se evitan las extensiones indiscriminadas de la red y los grupos electrógenos diésel. Adicionalmente se muestra la posibilidad de reemplazar el gasóleo por electricidad o hidrógeno producido en la propia explotación.

Abstract Introduction To assess the efficacy and safety of the combination of microblepharoexfoliation (MBE), intense pulse light (IPL) and meibomian gland expression (MGX) for treatment of meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). Methods This was a prospective, parallel-control trial conducted from April 2022 to January 2023. Participants were assigned to receive either three sessions of MBE-IPL-MGX treatment and home-based therapy (treatment group) or home-based therapy alone (control group). Outcome measures were assessed at baseline and after 2-month follow-up. Results Seventy eyes of 70 patients were enrolled. MBE-IPL-MGX treatment achieved better improvements than home-based therapy in ocular surface disease index (OSDI) and symptom assessment in dry eye (SANDE) scores, noninvasive tear film break-up time (NIBUT), lipid layer grade (LLG), loss area meibomian gland (LAMG) and meibomian gland yielding secretion score (MGYSS). Abstract Background Understanding the hip adduction and abduction strength in female soccer players is crucial for performance enhancement and injury prevention. This study compares the strength profiles in these muscle groups between elite and sub-elite female soccer players and assesses the impact of leg limb-dominance. Methods A descriptive-comparative study was employed. Eighty-two female soccer players were evaluated. Isometric hip-adduction and abduction strength were measured using a handheld dynamometer. Results Female elite and sub-elite soccer players displayed a mean and standard deviation (SD) on isometric hip-adductor strength for dominant (3.19 Nm/kg ± 0.69 vs. 2.40 Nm/kg ± 0.67) and non-dominant leg (3.32 Nm/kg ± 0.76 versus 2.42 Nm/kg ± 0.70), respectively. For isometric hip-abductor strength in elite and sub-elite players, a mean and SD of dominant (2.86 Nm/kg ± 0.56 vs. 2.07 Nm/kg ± 0.50) and non-dominant (2.80 Nm/kg ± 0.59 vs. 2.04 Nm/kg ± 0.43). In essence, elite players were stronger than sub-elite players on isometric hip-adduction (mean difference [MD] = 0.82 Nm/kg, CI95% = 0.42–1.12) and abduction (MD = 0.83 Nm/kg, CI95% = 0.54- 1.12) both in dominant and non-dominant, leg, whereas no differences existed for hip adduction:abduction ratios between groups and legs. Conclusions Elite female athletes exhibited greater strength than sub-elite female players in both hip adduction and abduction, whereas adduction:abduction ratio values did not differ between the two groups or between different legs.

The advent of various interactive multimedia networks in the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) classroom (Grabe & Grabe, 2007) has led to the emergence of new learning methodologies (Ming-Hung et al., 2017). Accordingly, new ways of learning are present in a multimodal environment , and have caused an effect on students' degree of motivation, as well as on their learning styles (e.g., 'multimodal' and 'perceptual' learning styles). The present study aims to analyse the degree of motivation of ESP learners with a 'Multimodal' learning style in contrast to those with 'Multiple' learning styles. In particular, this study addresses three research questions: (1) Has 'Digital' learning created a recent 'perceptual' learning style (i.e., 'Multimodal' learning style)? (2) To what extent does 'digital' learning increase ESP students' motivation in comparison to 'traditional' learning? (3) Does the 'Multimodal' learning style heighten the degree of motivation in contrast to 'Multiple' learning style? The study used a sample of 62 first-year ESP students taking the subject 'Professional English for Communicators' at a Spanish university. Data for this study were collected using 'Wix', as the main research tool, and two questionnaires which focused on students' 'Multimodal' learning style and motivation: (a) 'Multimodal Learning Styles Questionnaire', designed to help students identify their preferences towards their learning process, and (b) 'Motivation Questionnaire', in order to get information regarding students' perceptions for the enhancement of engagement. Results suggest that the implementation of 'Wix' in the classroom increases students' engagement in their learning process and fosters a new perceptual learning style (i.e., 'multimodal' learning style). These findings may help to identify to what extent digital resources affect students' engagement and perceptual learning styles' preferences. The results obtained from this research may be used to derive conclusions on how to approach the 'Multimodal' learning style in further student performances with digital tools that promote the training of digital literacies (Girón-García, 2013).

La ley atribuye a un tribunal colegiado la competencia para conocer de la revisión de un previo enjuiciamiento (recursos devolutivos) y los juicios de especial trascendencia, porque considera que es más fácil que acierte con la solución justa un tribunal colegiado que un solo juez. El enjuiciamiento se enriquece con la participación de varios jueces que, con un necesario conocimiento de la causa, aportan sus pareceres y al coincidir o contrastar unos y otros, hay más posibilidades de acertar con la solución. Es necesario fomentar y desarrollar una cultura de la deliberación, que no pierda de vista su sentido: conformar una decisión colegiada para la resolución de un caso. Que conlleva un debate cooperativo y temático, una argumentación dialogada. Este artículo se propone reflexionar sobre cómo deliberar bien en un tribunal colegiado: para ello hay que atender tanto a las disposiciones personales de quienes intervienen y las exigencias éticas propias de la deliberación, como a cuestiones organizativas que facilitan el buen trabajo en equipo; todo ello contribuye a que afloren buenas prácticas sobre el modo de deliberar o debatir un caso.

Abstract Background Friedreich ataxia is the most common inherited ataxia in Europe and is mainly caused by biallelic pathogenic expansions of the GAA trinucleotide repeat in intron 1 of the FXN gene that lead to a decrease in frataxin protein levels. Rarely, affected individuals carry either a large intragenic deletion or whole-gene deletion of FXN on one allele and a full-penetrance expanded GAA repeat on the other allele. Case presentation We report here a patient that presented the typical clinical features of FRDA and genetic analysis of FXN intron 1 led to the assumption that the patient carried the common biallelic expansion. Subsequently, parental sample testing led to the identification of a novel intragenic deletion involving the 5’UTR upstream region and exons 1 and 2 of the FXN gene by MLPA. Conclusions With this case, we want to raise awareness about the potentially higher prevalence of intragenic deletions and underline the essential role of parental sample testing in providing accurate genetic counselling.

Abstract Suboptimal vaccine response is a significant concern in patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) receiving biologic drugs. This single-center observational study involved 754 patients with IBD. In Phase I (October 2020-April 2021), 754 IBD participants who had not previously received the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, underwent blood extraction to assess the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection and IBD-related factors. Phase II (May 2021-October 2021) included a subgroup of 52 IBD participants with confirmed previous SARS-CoV-2 infection, who were studied for humoral and cellular response to the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. In Phase I, treatment with anti-TNF was associated with lower rates of seroconversion (aOR 0.25 95% CI [0.10–0.61]). In Phase II, a significant increase in post-vaccination IgG levels was observed regardless of biologic treatment. However, patients treated with anti-TNF exhibited significantly lower IgG levels compared to those without IBD therapy (5.32 ± 2.47 vs. 7.99 ± 2.59 U/ml, p = 0.042). Following vaccination, a lymphocyte, monocyte, and NK cell activation pattern was observed, with no significant differences between patients receiving biologic drugs and those without IBD treatment. Despite lower seroprevalence and humoral response to the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in patients treated with anti-TNF, the cellular response to the vaccine did not differ significantly from that patients without IBD therapy.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the real use of cefazolin for methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) infective endocarditis (IE) in the Spanish National Endocarditis Database (GAMES) and to compare it with antistaphylococcal penicillin (ASP). Methods: Prospective cohort study with retrospective analysis of a cohort of MSSA IE treated with cloxacillin and/or cefazolin. Outcomes assessed were relapse; intra-hospital, overall, and endocarditis-related mortality; and adverse events. Risk of renal toxicity with each treatment was evaluated separately. Results: We included 631 IE episodes caused by MSSA treated with cloxacillin and/or cefazolin. Antibiotic treatment was cloxacillin, cefazolin, or both in 537 (85%), 57 (9%), and 37 (6%) episodes, respectively. (1) Background: This study compares the effective lens position (ELP) and intraocular lens power (IOLP) derived from SRK/T, Hoffer Q, Holladay I, and Haigis formulas with the actual lens position (ALP) and the implanted IOLP after cataract surgery. Additionally, it aims to optimize ALP using a ray-tracing-based simulated optical model to achieve emmetropia. (2) Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted on 43 eyes implanted with the same monofocal intraocular lens (IOL). Preoperative and postoperative biometric data were collected using the Lenstar LS900. Postoperative measurements included ALP, subjective refraction, and refraction error (RE). Optical simulations (OSLO EDU 6.6.0) were utilized to optimize ALP for emmetropia (ALPIDEAL). (3) Results: Paired t-test results between REOSLO-REOBJ (p-value = 0.660) and REOSLO-RESUB (p-value = 0.789) indicated no significant statistical differences. However, statistically significant differences were found between ALP and ALPIDEAL (p < 0.05), with a difference of −0.04 ± 0.45 mm [ranging from −1.00 to 1.20 mm]. A significant correlation was observed between ΔALP (ΔALP = ALP − ALPIDEAL) and RESUBJ. (4) Conclusions: This customized ray-tracing eye model effectively achieves refractive outcomes similar to those obtained both subjectively and objectively post-surgery. Additionally, it has enabled optical simulations to optimize the IOL position and achieve emmetropia.

PurposeAccurate alignment of Toric Intraocular Lens (T-IOLs) in cataract surgery is crucial for good visual outcomes. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of rotation, axial shift and their combined effects on the refractive error and image quality of a wide range of T-IOL powers (from +1.50 D to +6.00 D cylinder) and two pupil diameters (3.34 and 4.44 mm).MethodsNumerical ray tracing was utilized to quantify the residual error. Simulated retinal images and Visual Strehl (VS) ratios were calculated to evaluate image quality.ResultsFirst, T-IOL rotation showed better agreement with Holladay's formula than 3.33% rule. Second, axial displacement resulted in acceptable residual cylinder (ConclusionsThe 3.33% rule was confirmed as a reasonable approximation for the residual astigmatism caused by rotation of T-IOLs. The influence of axial shift on residual astigmatism becomes insignificant when there is also rotation. Image quality studies confirm that 30° of rotation are enough invalidate the compensation benefits of a T-IOLs in comparison with a Spherical Intraocular lens.

Quadruplex-Duplex (Q-D) junctions are unique structural motifs garnering increasing interest as drug targets, due to their frequent occurrence in genomic sequences. The viral HIV LTR-III sequence was chosen as a Q-D junction model to study the affinity of the selected compounds BMH-21, namitecan (ST-1968), and doxorubicin (DOXO), all containing a planar polycyclic aromatic moiety, linked to either one short aminoalkyl or an aminoglycosyl group. A multidisciplinary approach that combines NMR spectroscopy, molecular modelling, circular dichroism (CD) and fluorescence spectroscopy was employed. The studied ligands induced moderate but clear stabilization to the Q-D junction by interacting with the interfacial tetrad. DOXO was found to be the best Q-D junction binder. Interestingly, the removal of the aminoglycosyl group significantly changed the pattern of the interactions, indicating that highly polar substituents have a stronger affinity with the exposed regions of the Q-D junction, particularly at the level of the interfacial tetrad.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore the effects of 20 weeks of multicomponent or power training with elastic bands (EBs) on metabolic and inflammatory blood parameters, body composition, anthropometry, and physical function in older women with metabolic syndrome (MS). Methods: Ninety participants were randomly assigned to a multicomponent (MCG; n = 30), power (PG; n = 30), or a control group (CG; n = 30). The MCG performed balance, slow-speed strength, and aerobic training, twice per week. The PG completed a high-speed resistance training program twice per week, composed of three to four sets of ten repetitions of six overall body exercises at a perceived rating of effort for the first repetition of 3–4 on the OMNI-Resistance Exercise Scale EB. MS-related variables (glucose, triglycerides, and waist circumference) and cardiometabolic risk factors (high-density lipoprotein [HDL], glycosylated hemoglobin, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol [LDL], C-reactive protein, and anthropometric profile) were assessed. Physical function was evaluated through balance, strength, and mobility tests. RESUMEN Introducción: La arteritis de Takayasu se trata de una vasculitis de grandes vasos, crónica y granulomatosa caracterizada por la presencia de estenosis y aneurismas en la aorta y sus ramas principales. Se produce inflamación vascular que causa dolor. Las pruebas de imagen como el PET-TC han ganado importancia en el diagnóstico. El tratamiento se realiza con inmunosupresores, pudiendo usar fármacos biológicos en casos refractarios. Material y métodos: Estudio descriptivo retrospectivo de 3 casos de enfermedad de Takayasu. Resultados: Presentamos 3 casos atípicos de vasculitis de Takayasu que fueron diagnosticados mediante PET-TC y que evolucionaron de forma diferente, requiriendo 2 de ellos tratamiento con fármacos biológicos. Conclusión: Pruebas de imagen como el PET-TC permiten un diagnóstico temprano y un seguimiento de la enfermedad. Con el uso de fármacos biológicos podemos controlar los casos refractarios. ABSTRACT Introduction: Takayasu's arteritis is a chronic granulomatous vasculitis of large vessels characterized by the presence of stenosis and aneurysms in the aorta and its mainbranches. Vascular inflammation occurs that causes pain. Imaging tests such as PET-CT have gained importance in diagnosis. The treatment is carried out with immunosuppressants, being able to use biological drugs in refractory cases. Material and methods: Retrospective descriptive study of 3 cases of Takayasu's disease. Results: We present 3 atypical cases of Takayasu vasculitis that were diagnosed by PETCT and that evolved differently, requiring 2 of them treatment with biological drugs. Conclusion: Imaging tests such as PET-CT allow early diagnosis and monitoring of the disease. With the use of biological drugs we can control refractory cases.

Resorption is the active withdrawal of nutrients before leaf abscission. This mechanism represents an important strategy to maintain efficient nutrient cycling; however, resorption is poorly characterized in old-growth tropical forests growing in nutrient-poor soils. We investigated nutrient resorption from leaves in 39 tree species in two tropical forests on the Guiana Shield, French Guiana, to investigate whether resorption efficiencies varied with soil nutrient, seasonality, and species traits. The stocks of P in leaves, litter, and soil were low at both sites, indicating potential P limitation of the forests. Accordingly, mean resorption efficiencies were higher for P (35.9%) and potassium (K; 44.6%) than for nitrogen (N; 10.3%). K resorption was higher in the wet (70.2%) than in the dry (41.7%) season. P resorption increased slightly with decreasing total soil P; and N and P resorptions were positively related to their foliar concentrations. We conclude that nutrient resorption is a key plant nutrition strategy in these old-growth tropical forests, that trees with high foliar nutrient concentration reabsorb more nutrient, and that nutrients resorption in leaves, except P, are quite decoupled from nutrients in the soil. Seasonality and biochemical limitation played a role in the resorption of nutrients in leaves, but species-specific requirements obscured general tendencies at stand and ecosystem level.
