Introduction Existing randomised controlled trials (RCTs) comparing a freeze-all embryo transfer strategy and a fresh embryo transfer strategy have shown conflicting results. A freeze-all or a fresh transfer policy may be preferable for some couples undergoing in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), but it is unclear which couples would benefit most from each policy, how and under which protocols. Therefore, we plan a systematic review and individual participant data meta-analysis of RCTs comparing a freeze-all and a fresh transfer policy. Methods and analysis We will search electronic databases (Medline, Embase, PsycINFO and CENTRAL) and trial registries (ClinicalTrials.gov and the International Clinical Trials Registry Platform) from their inception to present to identify eligible RCTs. We will also check reference lists of relevant papers. The search was performed on 23 September 2020 and will be updated. We will include RCTs comparing a freeze-all embryo transfer strategy and a fresh embryo transfer strategy in couples undergoing IVF. The primary outcome will be live birth resulting from the first embryo transfer. All outcomes listed in the core outcome set for infertility research will be reported. We will invite the lead investigators of eligible trials to join the Individual participant data meta-analysis of trials comparing frozen versus fresh embryo transfer strategy (INFORM) collaboration and share the deidentified individual participant data (IPD) of their trials. We will harmonise the IPD and perform a two-stage meta-analysis and examine treatment-covariate interactions for important baseline characteristics. Ethics and dissemination The study ethics have been granted by the Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee (Project ID: 30391). The findings will be disseminated via presentations at international conferences and publication in peer-reviewed journals. PROSPERO registration number CRD42021296566.

The influence has been studied of thermo-mechanical treatment, sensitization conditions, and neutron irradiation on the pitting corrosion resistance of austenitic 316LN stainless steel variants in 10% FeCl[subscript 3]·6H[subscript 2]O at 22 °C. Variants of this steel were modified with additions of nitrogen, manganese, copper, and tungsten, as well as testing cast, cold-rolled, grain boundary engineered (GBE), and as-received variants. It was found that the 316LN steel variant with additions of 0.2% N and 2% Mn had the best pitting corrosion resistance of all studied conditions. When irradiated in a light water reactor (LWR) to a maximum fluence of 3 × 1017 n/cm[superscript 2] (E > 1.1 meV, Tirr < 50 °C), neutron irradiation surprisingly increased the resistance of GBE steels to pitting corrosion. An anisotropy of corrosion resistance of GBE and cold rolled steels was observed. BACKGROUND: Transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) and hemolytic transfusion reactions account for significant transfusion-related morbidity and mortality in the United States. Our study evaluated types and quantities of transfused components as well as occurrence of TRALI, ABO, and Rh incompatibilities among the US elderly in the institutional outpatient setting during 2007 to 2008. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: This retrospective claims-based study utilized the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' large administrative databases. Transfusions were identified by recorded procedure and revenue center codes, while complications were ascertained via ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes. The study quantified blood use based on revenue center units. RESULTS: Among 26,054,242 and 25,662,864 Medicare elderly in 2007 and 2008, a total of 241,055 (0.9%) and 251,284 (1.0%) had outpatient transfusions. Leukoreduced red blood cells (LR-RBCs) was the most frequently transfused single blood component (60.1 and 61.3%, respectively) each year. Likewise, LR-RBCs and LR pheresis platelets (LR-PLTs) was the most frequent component combination (2.4 and 2.6%, respectively). TRALI rate comparison for RBCs and PLTs versus RBCs only showed higher rate for RBCs and PLTs (p = 0.033). In 2007 and 2008, ABO incompatibility rate comparison for irradiated (IR) LR-RBCs versus LR-RBCs showed higher rates for IR LR-RBCs (rate ratio [RR] 37.4, 95% confidence interval [CI] 10.6-132.6; and RR 31.3, 95% CI 11.6-84.4, respectively). CONCLUSION: This study shows potential usefulness of Medicare databases in assessment of blood utilization, transfusion-related complications, and risk factors among US elderly in the outpatient setting. It suggests limitations (e.g., need for several years of data to better assess rare complications) and importance of databases as hypothesis-generating tool to supplement blood safety research.

We used administrative databases to assess babesiosis among elderly persons in the United States by year, sex, age, race, state of residence, and diagnosis months during 2006–2008. The highest babesiosis rates were in Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, and Massachusetts, and findings suggested babesiosis expansion to other states.
