Abstract

Objective. Adjuvant therapy with sodium-glucose cotransport 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) in type 1 diabetes (T1D) is associated with an improvement in glycemic control, but increases the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). However, real-life studies in individuals with T1D under continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) are still scarce. We present the first real-life study performed in patients with T1D exclusively treated with CSII. The aim of the present study was to assess the metabolic impact and safety of SGLT2i in T1D individuals under CSII.

Abstract

The ICES Working Group on Southern horse mackerel, anchovy and sardine (WGHANSA) assessed the status of anchovy in Atlantic Iberian waters (ane.27.9a; western and southern components) and horse mackerel in Atlantic Iberian waters (hom.27.9a) in the May meeting. The status of anchovy in Bay of Biscay (ane.27.8), sardine in southern Celtic Seas and the English Channel (pil.27.7), sardine in Bay of Biscay (pil.27.8abd) and sardine in Cantabrian Sea and Atlantic Iberian waters (pil.27.8c9a) will be assessed in the November meeting. The status of jack mackerel in Subdivision 10.a.2 (Azores grounds) (jaa.10.a2) won’t be assessed this year, since the advice is provided biannually. The stock of anchovy in Bay of Biscay (ane.27.8) has been above Blim since the reopening of the fishery in 2010. SSB in 2023 has been estimated as the second highest of the historical series. Recruitment (age 1 biomass at the beginning of the year) in 2024 is estimated above the average of the time-series. Harvest rates (catch/SSB) have been stable in the last years. The stock of anchovy in Atlantic Iberian waters (ane.27.9a) is composed by the western component (distributed in areas 9.a North, Central–North, and Central–South) and the southern component (distributed in area 9.a South). The advice is provided for the two components separately for the management calendar from July to June next year. Based on the MSE work developed for each component, the advice is based for the first time on constant harvest rate rules. For the western component, the combined PELACUS and PELAGO acoustic biomass estimate is used as an indicator of stock development and the advice is based on the stock indicator for 2023, multiplied by a constant harvest rate of 0.25, with no biomass safeguard. For the southern component, the relative SSB from an analytical assessment conducted with GADGET is used as the index of stock size development and the advice is based on the stock indicator for 2023, multiplied by a constant

Abstract

Despite the recognition that the adoption of the circular economy depends on aligning the new product development process with the principles of circularity, there are still few studies on the barriers to circular product design. This article aims to contribute to this topic by developing an exploratory study to identify and analyze these barriers in the Brazilian context. In addition to a theoretical analysis, the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process was utilized to evaluate the significance of various hindrances and obstacles to circular product design. To gain a better understanding of these barriers, semi‐structured interviews were also conducted. Experts in areas such as sustainability, marketing, and R&D from companies that develop products participated in this research. The results of the study reveal that the difficulties supply chains have in providing circular economy‐based products and reverse logistics systems are among the main barriers. Challenges such as low consumer valorization of these products and a lack of knowledge and technologies were also identified as relevant. By investigating a set of barriers to circular product design, this study extends knowledge about the difficulties companies face in the transition to circular business models. Abstract

In this article we look at data on management and skills demand of firms in existing databases and we highlight the strong positive relationship between both variables. We develop a model that explains this relationship and calibrate it in order to present quantitative results, which we then compare with our own estimates. We discover that a simple model with management as a technology can replicate well the estimated influence of management in the skills that firms require. We also present evidence of the influence of the sub-items of management on skill requirements and found that aside from the talent component of management, target and performance components greatly influence the demand for skills. Abstract

A regulação do nível de cálcio no sangue é feita através da paratormona (PTH) e da 1,25-dihidroxivitamina D, metabolito ativo da vitamina D. A hipocalcemia pode estar associada a um espectro de manifestações clínicas, variando desde ténues sintomas, a sintomas graves, que podem colocar em risco a vida do doente. A maioria dos casos de hipocalcemia aguda ocorrem no contexto de hipoparatiroidismo após cirurgia cervical, com remoção ou destruição das glândulas paratiroides. Abstract

This abstract presents the key findings and implications of a systematic literature review and cross-case analysis on supply chain mapping studies and the drivers and barriers for residual agroforestry biomass valorization. The key findings emphasize the importance of supportive government policies, socio-economic benefits, market acceptance, financial challenges, and stakeholder empowerment. Supportive policies incentivize biomass valorization, while job creation and rural development drive socio-economic benefits. Market pressure for conventional products and limited financial support present barriers. Empowering stakeholders, such as farmers and industry associations, is crucial for fair pricing practices. Decision-makers can utilize this research to make informed decisions and develop strategies. It highlights the need for supportive policies, market acceptance, and financial support to enhance the viability of residual biomass valorization projects. It also emphasizes the importance of addressing market demand for traditional products and limited financial support mechanisms. Stakeholder empowerment through knowledge-sharing and collaboration improves their bargaining power. Understanding the drivers and barriers aids in addressing financial challenges, creating supportive policies, promoting market acceptance, optimizing material flows, addressing transportation costs, and enhancing stakeholder bargaining power.
