Abstract

Due to their potential utility in applications such as electrical, thermal, optical, and immobilising host materials in nuclear waste, perovskite-type ceramic materials have been extensively investigated. In present work, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and UV–vis absorption spectroscopy studies were used to investigate Barium Zirconate perovskite BaZrO3 nano-particles synthesized by pure-combustion technique and sintered at 1200° C for 12 hours. X-ray powder diffraction investigation confirmed the perovskite structure and phase composition of BaZrO3 NPs (XRD). BaZrO3 diffraction peaks correspond to a cubic perovskite structure with space group Pm3m (221). The Williamson-Hall plot estimates the crystallite size. The SEM image depicts the surface morphology of BaZrO3 nanoparticles and illustrates that the particles' sizes vary by a few nanometers with no apparent shape. Abstract

The superconducting properties of RuSr2GdCu2O8Ru1212 superconductor strongly depend on the processing conditions. In this report we have made an investigation on the influence of processing method and heat treatments on the superconducting properties, as well as normal state resistivity of RuSr2GdCu2O8Ru1212 compound. The samples were prepared using solidstate reaction of high purity oxides and carbonates of constituents cations through direct method, precursor method, and standard method used for the synthesis of Ru1212 compounds. These samples were then subjected to different annealing treatments in different atmosphere oxygen and air for 120 h. They have been investigated by Xray diffraction, dc resistivity and scanning electron microscopy. The normal state resistivity has been studied on the basis of various conduction mechanisms.
