Der Klimawandel stellt als aktuelle und zukünftige Bedrohung insbesondere für die vulnerable Gruppe der Kinder und Jugendlichen einen chronischen Stressor dar. Neben der Bekämpfung von Klimawandelfolgen spielt schulische Klimabildung eine wichtige Rolle, um jungen Menschen sowohl Wissen über den Klimawandel als auch Möglichkeiten für klimafreundliches Verhalten zu vermitteln und Selbstwirksamkeit und die psychische Gesundheit zu stärken. Im Rahmen dieser Masterarbeit wurden mit Schüler*innen und Lehrer*innen österreichischer Gymnasien, welche am Klimabildungsprojekt makingAchange teilnehmen, halbstrukturierte Interviews durchgeführt und mittels qualitativer Inhaltsanalyse ausgewertet. Die Schüler*innen berichten ein ausgeprägtes Bedrohungserleben und nehmen vor allem kollektive Maßnahmen zur Reduzierung von Klimawandelfolgen als effektiv wahr. Für den Umgang mit dem Klimawandel erweisen sich, auch im Rahmen der Covid-Pandemie, besonders emotionsorientierte und bedeutungsorientierte Coping-Strategien als effektiv. Aufgrund der Covid-Pandemie erleben die Schüler*innen dabei vor allem Hoffnung durch wahrgenommene Veränderungen auf gesellschaftlicher Ebene sowie positiver Effekte auf die Umwelt. Den Ergebnisse zufolge ist makingAchange als Klimabildungsintervention effektiv und wirkt sich positiv auf das Klimawandelbewusstsein und die Wirksamkeitswahrnehmung der Schüler*innen aus. Musik wird häufig mit Emotionen in Verbindung gebracht. Es gibt Evidenz, die nahelegt, dass musikalische Personen Emotionen vor allem in der Stimme besser wahrnehmen als die Durchschnittsbevölkerung. Unklar bleibt dabei häufig, ob diese Vorteile auf musikalische Begabung oder Training im musikalischen Bereich zurückzuführen sind und wie dieser Zusammenhang zu erklären ist. Das Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, zu untersuchen, inwiefern die Musikalität mit der emotionalen Wahrnehmungsfähigkeit zusammenhängt und ob dieser Zusammenhang durch angeborene musikalische Fähigkeiten oder durch musikalische Ausbildung zu erklären ist. Außerdem wird angenommen, dass der Zusammenhang von Musikalität und Emotionserkennung von der Fähigkeit, prosodische Veränderungen in der Sprache zu erkennen, welche durch musikalische Fähigkeiten sensibilisiert wird, vermittelt wird. Um die Fragestellung zu untersuchen, wurde eine quantitative Onlinestudie durchgeführt. Die Stichprobe bestand aus N = 136 Personen, die drei Testverfahren zu Musikalität, emotionaler Wahrnehmungsfähigkeit und prosodischer Unterscheidungsfähigkeit durchführten sowie eine Selbsteinschätzung zu musikalischer Expertise ausfüllten. Die Studie zeigte, dass Personen mit hohen Musikalitätswerten eine bessere Emotionserkennung durch die Stimme und bessere prosodische Unterscheidungsfähigkeit aufweisen. Der Zusammenhang von Musikalität und auditiver emotionaler Wahrnehmungsfähigkeit wurde außerdem vollständig durch die prosodische Unterscheidungsfähigkeit vermittelt. Musikalische Expertise hingegen hing nicht signifikant mit der auditiven Emotionswahrnehmungsfähigkeit zusammen. Allerdings war ein Trend erkennbar, welcher den Schluss auf eine ausschließlich indirekte Mediation zulies. Das legt nahe, dass angeborene musikalische Fähigkeiten für das Erkennen von Emotionen, besonders in der Stimme, die entscheidende Rolle spielen. There is evidence to suggest that musical individuals perceive emotions better than the average population. It remains unclear whether these advantages are due to musical talent or training in music and how this relationship can be explained. The aim of the present work is to investigate to what extent musical ability is related to emotional recognition ability and whether this relationship can be explained by innate musical ability or by musical training. It is also hypothesized that the relationship between musical ability and emotion recognition is mediated by the ability to recognize prosodic changes in speech, which is sensitized by musical ability. In order to investigate the research question, a quantitative online study was conducted. The sample consists of N = 136 individuals who completed three test procedures on musical ability, emotional recognition ability and prosodic discrimination ability, as well as a self-assessment on musical expertise. The study shows that individuals with with high musical ability scores have better emotion recognition through voice and better prosodic discrimination ability. The relationship between musical ability and auditory emotional recognition ability is also fully mediated by prosodic discrimination ability. Musical expertise, on the other hand, is not significantly related to auditory emotion recognition ability. However, a trend is apparent which suggests indirect only mediation. This implies that innate musical ability plays the crucial role for emotion recognition, especially in the voice. This can be attributed to the fact that musical individuals are more sensitive to prosodic changes, which contain emotional information, in both speech and music. Die Corona-Pandemie hat, durch die vom Staat durchgeführten Maßnahmen, einen erheblichen Einfluss auf den Alltag von vielen Menschen genommen. Auch Studierende haben in ihrem akademischen Rahmen viele Veränderungen durchgemacht. Diese Studie basiert auf einer sozialpsychologischen Perspektive und erforscht den Einfluss von Zugehörigkeit auf Wohlbefinden, Einsamkeit und Lebenszufriedenheit bei Uni-Studierenden und Fernuni-Studierenden. Es handelt sich hierbei um ein Quasi-Experiment, wobei die Fernuni-Studierenden als Kontrollgruppe und die Uni-Studierenden als Experimentalgruppe behandelt werden. Es wurden N = 945 Studierende befragt (N = 482 Fernuni-Studierende; N = 463 Uni-Studierende), wobei sich zeigte, dass Uni-Studierende ein geringeres Wohlbefinden aufwiesen als Fernuni-Studierende. Die Befragten zeigten keine Unterschiede hinsichtlich des Zugehörigkeitsgefühls. Es wird angenommen, dass die Fernuni-Studierenden keine optimale Kontrollgruppe darstellt, da sie außerhalb des Studentenleben auch von der Pandemie betroffen sind und diese Veränderungen Einflüsse auf die Fernuni-Studierende genommen haben. This study is based on a social psychological perspective and researches the influence of the sense of belonging on well-being, loneliness and life satisfaction on university students and long-distance students. This is a quasi experimental study, with the long-distance students being treated as the control group and the university students as the experimental group. N = 945 students were surveyed (N = 482 long-distance students; N = 463 university students). The results show that the corona pandemic impacted university students on well-being inasmuch as they exhibit a lower level of well-being than long-distance students. Respondents showed no differences in sense of belonging. It appears that the long-distance students are not an optimal control group, since they are also affected by the crisis outside of the student life. The changes on the basis of the measures by the government might have had an impact on the long-distance students. It is recommended to repeat the survey, but with university students who take part in in-classroom teaching classes. Ressentiment is central for understanding the psychological foundations of reactionary politics, right-wing populism, Islamic fundamentalism, and radicalism. In this article we theorise ressentiment as an emotional mechanism which, reinforcing a morally superior sense of victimhood, expedites two parallel transvaluation processes: What was once desired or valued, yet unattainable, is reassessed as something undesirable and rotten, and one's own self from being inferior, a loser, is reassessed as being noble and superior. We establish negative emotions of envy, shame, and inefficacious anger as the main triggers of ressentiment, with their associated feelings of inferiority and impotence, which target the vulnerable self. We identify the outcomes of ressentiment as other-directed negative emotions of resentment, indignation, and hatred, reinforced and validated by social sharing. We map the psychological structure of ressentiment in four stages, each employing idiosyncratic defences that depend on the ego-strength of the individual to deliver the transvaluation of the self and its values, and finally detail how social sharing consolidates the outcome emotions, values, and identities in ressentiment through shallow twinship bonds with like-minded peers. Our interdisciplinary theoretical account integrates classic philosophical scholarship of ressentiment and its contemporary proponents in philosophy and sociology, which highlight envy as the prime driver of ressentiment; it also considers the sociological approaches that focus on the repression and transmutation of shame and its social consequences, as well as the psychoanalytic scholarship on psychic defences and political psychology models on the emotionality of decision-making. We conclude the article by elaborating the political implications of ressentiment as the emotional mechanism of grievance politics.

This thematic issue brings together ten articles from political psychology, political sociology, philosophy, history, public policy, media studies, and electoral studies, which examine reactionary politics and resentful affect in populist times.

This article explores the emotional dimensions of political representation by British Members of Parliament (MP) in relation to child protection. The public speech acts and first-hand accounts of three MPs are drawn upon as examples. These highlight different forms of emotional interest representation that arise following the death of a local child from severe abuse or neglect and in response to anxieties in the community about risk. Firstly, I examine the role of the MP in seeking to embody their constituency in the public expression of collective emotional responses and to defend it from feelings of guilt and shame. Personal feelings of guilt and a consciousness of the politician's role in attributing blame are then considered. Thirdly, I explore the role of the MP as trusted envoy for anxieties about risk to individual children within their constituencies. The article draws on Berezin's concept of the secure state and Hochschild's notion of politicians as feeling legislators, and is based on qualitative documentary analysis and semi-structured interviews with MPs. It is argued that the emotional processes outlined are central to understanding the problematic relationship between politics and state social work that fuels the cycle of crisis and reform in children's services in the UK.

Emotions have always been invested in politics. Politicians and politically biased public intellectuals manage citizens' emotions for various purposes: to alienate them from the rival political camp and to make them participate in elections or in politics in general. Ressentiment is an affective style of great political potential and it is present throughout democratic European societies. By analysing the discourses of the culture war between the political camps in Hungary since 2018, this article presents the components, drivers, mechanisms, and some typical outcomes of ressentiment on the levels of the individual and the political communities. It argues that in political communication both political sides are trying to appeal to the citizens’ ressentiment. Both camps use communicative means to incite, channel, and reorient ressentiment by, e.g., scapegoating, identity work, and transvaluation to attract citizens, stabilize their own support, and nudge followers towards specific political activities.

Emotions have been found to underpin the moral hierarchy of values and beliefs within and among groups by restraining undesirable attitudes and behavior. As such, emotions serve as potential indicators for analyzing whether or not certain norms are still deemed relevant. As Jon Mercer puts it: "One way to test for the presence of norms is to look for emotion". While the literature in International Relations (IR) generally accepts the emotional underpinnings of norms, there has been strikingly little elaboration of appropriate methods and criteria for studying the link between emotion and norms in IR. In this contribution, I suggest that socialization processes in a security community involve the internalization of appropriate rules of emotional expression or, in short, emotion norms. I propose that emotion norms can be historically traced via the emotional vocabulary and expressive rules derived from the production of texts. To do this, I searched for documents and treaties that serve as canonical texts for the collective self-conception and self-image of the transatlantic security community. As I hope to show, in these texts one can find substantial evidence of emotion norms, which designates these documents as 'emotional landmarks' that embody the emotional construction of the transatlantic emotional (security) community.

In "Teaching Empathy and Emotions: J. M. Coetzee's 'The Lives of Animals' and Human-Animal Studies," Alexandra Böhm focuses on one of the most influential novels in the field of HAS. In her article, she delineates the two main difficulties in teaching Coetzee's text: firstly, the text's protagonist, fierce and fearless Australian author Elizabeth Costello, is often less-than-lovable and offers few grounds for identification; secondly, the text's multilayered structure further problematizes the authorial voice. However, by focusing on Costello's reassessment of emotion and empathy, Böhm convincingly demonstrates that Coetzee's text offers possibilities for understanding the key concepts of HAS, such as animal agency, alterity, and the necessity of assuming a non-anthropocentric perspective. In the narrative, Costello employs empathy in her approach to animals, but is this also true of the metadiegetic level of Coetzee's text? Does the text itself suggest how to teach empathy? Alexandra Böhm demonstrates that it is possible to elicit affective responses to these questions through emotion journals and role-playing.

"Andromaque", die zweite Tragödie, mit der Racine an eine Euripideische Vorlage und damit an die Tradition der griechisch-antiken Tragödie anknüpft, ist ein Drama des Leidens und Mitleidens. Der vorliegende Beitrag untersucht die Sprache und Bildlichkeit der Affekte, die Racines Tragédie im intertextuellen Rekurs auf entsprechende Passagen in Homers "Ilias", Euripides "Andromache" und Vergils "Aeneis" entwickelt. Als Schlüsselaffekt der Tragödie erweist sich die 'pitié', die im Verlauf des Dramas verschiedene Formen annimmt: mal verbindet sie sich mit erotischem Begehren (Pyrrhus), mal mit Trauer und Klage (Andromache). Dabei treten uns die Emotionen und Affekte der Figuren oft im Medium prägnanter Szenen entgegen, denen besondere Bedeutungsdichte und visuelle Ausdruckskraft eigen ist. Von diesen 'Pathosszenen' gilt vor allem der in der Figurenrede wiederholt evozierten Triade von Andromache, Astyanax und Hektor Beachtung, die als sprachlich-bildhafte Figur die dramenpoetische Affektmodellierung bestimmt.

Ekel wird im breiten Sinne als eine Abwehrreaktion, eine Ablehnung definiert. Das Ekelgefühl ist jedem Menschen angeboren und Disziplinen, wie die Psychologie und die Anthropologie, einigen sich darüber, dass Ekel ein menschliches Gefühl ist. Obwohl Ekel eine bedeutende Komponente des Gefühlslebens darstellt, ist die Forschung in diesem Bereich äußerst gering. Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit den Gründen sowie den Folgen des Ekels auf Grundlage der Erzählung "Mit Messer und Gabel" von Doris Dörrie. In komprimierter Form thematisiert der Text die vier Sinne – Geräusch, Geruch, Tastsinn und Sehsinn –, die mit Ekel verbunden sind, und stellt deren Auswirkung dar. Im Hintergrund dieser Überlegungen beschäftigt sich die vorliegende Arbeit mit folgenden Fragen: Wie wird Ekel von Doris Dörrie dargestellt? Wie versucht die Protagonistin der Erzählung das Ekelempfinden zu bewältigen? Was sind weitere Gefühlszustande, die der Ekel bei der Protagonistin evoziert? Methodisch lehnt sich die Arbeit an die Phänomenologie an. In seinem Werk "Ekel. Hochmut, Haß. Zur Phänomenologie feindlicher Gefühle" beschäftigt sich Aurel Kolnai ausschließlich mit Ekel und vergleicht diesen mit anderen feindlichen Gefühlen. Für eine ausführliche Analyse der Erzählung sollen Kolnais Überlegungen und Differenzierungen zu Ekel und anderen antagonistischen Gefühle herangezogen werden., Disgust is classified as one of the basic emotions, along with joy, happiness, jealousy and dread. There are many definitions of disgust. However, it is basically considered to be a strong response, towards something that is felt to be unpleasant. Although it is considered to be one of the basic emotions, not many literary works or movies choose to put this dark emotion at the center of their plot. In that regard, is the story Mit Messer und Gabel one of the very few literary works that basically deals with disgust on many different levels. This paper specifically concentrates on the causes and the consequences of disgust in the story "Mit Messer und Gabel". Furthermore, it aims to answer the following questions: How is disgust being depicted by the Author Doris Dörrie? How does the Protagonist try to fight this emotion and what other emotions are being evoked due to disgust? The method applied in this paper is based upon the thoughts of the phenomenologist Aurel Kolnai. In his work "Ekel, Hochmut, Haß. Zur Phänomenologie feindlicher Gefühle", deals Kolnai exclusively with disgust as a basic emotion and compares it with other hostile feelings.

Even though previous research connected personality traits and support for radical-right populist parties (RRP), the question of which mechanisms connect these concepts is still underexplored. In particular, we focus on narcissistic rivalry, a maladaptive path of grandiose narcissism. Drawing on the affective intelligence framework and the narcissistic admiration and rivalry concept, we propose that the effect of rival narcissism on vote choice for the German Alternative für Deutschland is mediated by reactionary political orientations and activated by anger. Drawing on 2017 data from the mixed-mode representative GESIS panel (N = 2,552 & 1,901), we employ moderated mediation analyses. We show that reactionary political orientations mediate the relationship between narcissistic rivalry and RRP support. However, high levels of generalised anger are needed to activate the relationship between personality, reactionary values, and RRP support, whereas the mediating role of anti-immigrant sentiment is not affected by anger. Our study emphasises the role of anger in RRP support, thus showing that anger might explain why only some people with a specific predisposition support RRPs. The study also stresses the complexity of the relationship between personality, value orientations, and political behaviour.
