Abstract

In order to overcome the drawbacks of standard particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm, such as prematurity and easily trapping in local optimum, a modified PSO algorithm is proposed, in which special techniques, as global best perturbation and inertia weight jump threshold are adopted. The convergence speed and accuracy of the algorithm are improved. The test by some benchmark problems shows that the proposed algorithm achieves relatively higher performance. Thereafter, the applications of the modified PSO in the radiation pattern synthesis of antenna arrays are presented.

Abstract

A hybrid optimization algorithm that is used in pattern synthesis of linear arrays is introduced The proposed algorithm combines Schelkunoff's zero placement method and genetic algorithm (GA). The problem of pattern synthesis is transformed into searching proper roots of Schelkunoff's polynomial in complex plane. Some roots are placed in term of nulls of the desired pattern, and GA is used to search other roots. When computing side lobes of the pattern, an accelerated algorithm is used to reduce the burden of computation.

Abstract

This paper presents a new design of wide slot antenna for various wideband applications. The proposed printed antenna consists of a slot and a turning stub, both formed by a binomial curve function; thus, various bandwidths (BWs) can be obtained based on the structure with different binomial curves. Some key parameters affecting the antenna performance have been analyzed and discussed in detail as an antenna design guideline. To validate the theoretical design, six prototypes of various binomial-curved slot antennas were designed, fabricated, and measured. Good agreement between the simulated results and the measured ones is observed. The results demonstrate that the proposed type of antenna can obtain a BW range from 9.8% to 99.7% for VSWR \leq 2 by selecting various binomial-curved slots, which may provide a convenience for various wideband antenna designs. Moreover, the proposed type of antenna owns a simple structure and a stable gain of about 3–5.5 dBi, which is very suitable for wideband wireless system applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

29. A Beam-Tilting Scheme for Multi-Cell Base Stations of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) Cell System.

Abstract

The capacity improvement mechanism with beam-tilting antennas for multi-cell base stations was studied under the consideration of the effect of log-normal shadowing, the height of antenna and the beam width. A beam-tilting scheme for multi-cell base stations of the CDMA cell system was proposed, in which beam-tilting technology for base stations is used in the whole CDMA cell system.
