- Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the applicability and accuracy of Demirjian and Chaillet method in estimating the actual age of Uygur and Han children and adolescents in Urumqi., Methods: A total of 1144 orthopantomograms were included in the study, and the seven permanent teeth in the left jaw were divided into different stages according to two dental age estimation methods, and the dental age was converted to tooth age after checking the table and assigning points, and the dental age and its chronological age were compared with t test or rank sum test using SPSS 21.0 software package, and the accuracy of the two methods was evaluated by comparing the mean absolute error of the two methods., Results: Demirjian method was overestimated by an average of 0.46 years (0.47 years for males and 0.43 years for women) in the Han population, 0.36 years for men and 0.26 years for women in Uyghur population, the difference was significant between Uyghur and Han boys (P<0.05). Chaillet method yielded an average underestimate of 0.01 years (0.04 years for men and -0.08 years for women) in the Han population, and 0.08 years(0.02 years for men and -0.21 years for women) in the Uyghur population, there was no significant difference between Uyghur and Han boys and girls(P>0.05)., Conclusions: When assessing the age of Uyghurhan children and adolescents in Urumqi, Chaillet method is more accurate than the Demirjian method. When applying dental age estimation method in different regions, it is necessary to evaluate the accuracy of the estimation method and revise it if necessary to improve the accuracy.

5. Analysis of the wall thickness of intracranial aneurysms: Can computational fluid dynamics detect the translucent areas of saccular intracranial aneurysms and predict the rupture risk preoperatively?

- Abstract
Background and Purpose: The translucent area on the surface of intracranial aneurysms (IAs) is associated with rupture risk. In the present study, the Polyflow module of the Ansys software was used to simulate and analyze the thickness of the aneurysm wall to detect whether it was "translucent" and to assess the rupture risk., Methods: Forty-five patients with 48 IAs who underwent microsurgery were retrospectively reviewed. The medical records, radiographic data, and intraoperative images of the patients were collected. The image data were analyzed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to explore the relationship between the simulated thickness of the aneurysm wall, the translucent area, and the rupture point of the real aneurysm's surface to predict the rupture risk and provide a certain reference basis for clinical treatment., Results: The Polyflow simulation revealed that the location of the minimum extreme point of the simulated aneurysm wall thickness was consistent with the translucent area or rupture point on the surface of the real aneurysm. There was a downward trend in the correlation between the change rate (I
S ) in the wall area and volume during aneurysm growth and rupture. Ruptured aneurysms have a greater inhomogeneity coefficient Iδ than the unruptured ones. 6. Indole alkaloids of Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br. alleviated nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in mice fed with high-fat diet.

- Abstract
Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br (Apocynaceae) is a well-documented medicinal plant for treating respiratory diseases, liver diseases and diabetes traditionally. The current study aimed to investigate the effects of TA on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). A NAFLD model was established using mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD) and administered with TA (7.5, 15 and 30 mg/kg) orally for 6 weeks. The biochemical parameters, expressions of lipid metabolism-related genes or proteins were analyzed. Furthermore, histopathological examinations were evaluated with Hematoxylin-Eosin and MASSON staining. TA treatment significantly decreased the bodyweight of HFD mice. The concentrations of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), triglyceride (TG), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were also decreased significantly in TA-treated mice group, accompanied by an increase in high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Furthermore, TA alleviated hepatic steatosis injury and lipid droplet accumulation of liver tissues. The liver mRNA levels involved in hepatic lipid synthesis such as sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1C (SREBP-1C), regulators of liver X receptor α (LXRα), peroxisome proliferator activated receptor (PPAR)γ, acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC1) and stearyl coenzyme A dehydrogenase-1 (SCD1), were markedly decreased, while the expressions involved in the regulation of fatty acid oxidation, PPARα, carnitine palmitoyl transterase 1 (CPT1A), and acyl coenzyme A oxidase 1 (ACOX1) were increased in TA-treated mice. 7. [Effect of Doxycycline on Intrinsic Apoptosis of Myeloma Cell Line H929 and Its Mechanism].

- Abstract
Objective: To investigate the mechanism of the in vitro toxicity of doxycycline to myeloma cell line H929 and also the possible pathway involved its toxicity., Methods: Myeloma cell line H929 was treated with DOX, MEK inhibitor U0126 or RAS agonist ML-098, either alone or in combination. Then, the expression of p-MEK, caspase-3, caspase-9 and c-Jun in H929 were used to detected by Western blot; the cells proliferation and apoptosis were detected by CCK-8 assay and flow cytometry, respectively., Results: DOX significantly increased the levels of cleaved caspase-3 and caspase-9, and down-regulated the level of p-MEK in H929 (P<0.05). MEK antagonist U0126 significantly increased the levels of cleaved caspase-3 and caspase-9, and down-regulated the level of p-MEK (P<0.05). After Dox combined with ML-098 treatment of H929 cells, the apoptosis rate of H929 cells was lower than that of DOX alone treatment group(P<0.05). Compared with DOX alone treatment group, the expressions of p-MEK and p-ERK1/2 in DOX+ML-098 combined treatment group were increased, and the levels of cleaved caspase-3,9 in H929 cells were decreased (P<0.05). The levels of c-Jun mRNA and protein increased in H929 when treated by DOX alone (P<0.05)., Conclusion: DOX can induce apoptosis of H929 via intrinsic apoptosis pathway, and MEK/ERK pathway and c-Jun possibly play a role in this process.

8. Health-related quality of life outcomes and influencing factors in patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysms after endovascular treatment.

- Abstract
Background: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is an important indicator when evaluating prognosis and disease-related treatments. Our current knowledge of the HRQoL outcomes of unruptured intracranial aneurysm (UIA) patients treated by the endovascular intervention appeared to be very limited. To fill this gap, the present study investigated the HRQoL outcomes and identified the influencing factors in UIA patients treated by endovascular intervention., Methods: We conducted a single-center cross-sectional study on patients who underwent endovascular treatment for UIAs. HRQoL outcomes were assessed by the 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). The SF-36 results of the Chinese reference population were used as the reference data. The independent variables with a univariate analysis result of P < 0.05 were included in the multivariate analysis. Finally, multivariable linear regression analysis was performed to identify the factors influencing HRQoL. Bonferroni correction was utilized for multiple testing correction., Results: A total of 200 patients (83 males and 117 females, mean age of 55.2 ± 9.48 years) with UIAs treated by endovascular intervention were enrolled. The scores of SF-36 in 8 domains for UIA patients treated by endovascular intervention did not all reach the average level of the Chinese reference population after an average recovery period of 30.67 ± 8.6 months. Ischemic cerebrovascular disease history, advanced age, and mRS progression at discharge were independent risk factors of HRQoL for UIA patients treated by endovascular intervention, but physical exercise at least once a week and daily sleep time no < 6 h were independent protective factors., Conclusion: The HRQoL of UIA patients treated by the endovascular intervention was decreased to varying degrees compared with those of the Chinese reference population. The influencing factors of HRQoL explored by this study provide insights for improving the clinical management and daily lives of these patients. 10. [Spatiotemporal Variations in Nutrient Loads in River-lake System of Changdang Lake Catchment in 2016-2017].

- Abstract
Eutrophication of shallow lakes in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River has become an increasingly serious problem. In this study, we investigated the temporal and spatial variations in nutrient loads (nitrogen, N and phosphorus, P) in the Changdang Lake Catchment located to the northwest of Lake Taihu through field sampling and laboratory analysis in 2016-2017. The results show the severity of the N and P pollution in the Changdang Lake catchment. The mean river water concentrations of TN, NO
3 - -N, NH4 + -N, TP, Chla, and permanganate index are (3.70±0.76) mg ·L-1 , (1.81±0.42) mg ·L-1 , (1.03±0.61) mg ·L-1 , (0.38±0.31) mg ·L-1 , (25.74±37.00) μg ·L-1 , and (6.35±0.81) mg ·L-1 , respectively. N pollution in the river is more severe in winter and spring than in summer and autumn whereas P pollution in the river is worse in autumn and winter than in spring and summer. Spatially, the magnitude of river N and P pollution follows the order of northern > northwestern > southern > eastern part of the study area. The rivers are in a state of moderate to severe eutrophication. The mean lake water concentrations of TN, NO3 - -N, NH4 + -N, TP, Chla, and permanganate index are (2.25±0.94) mg ·L-1 , (0.98±0.47) mg ·L-1 , (0.19±0.14) mg ·L-1 , (0.11±0.03) mg ·L-1 , (18.71±8.76) μg ·L-1 , and (4.59±1.09) mg ·L-1 , respectively. The water quality in Changdang Lake is categorized as worse than class Ⅲ for TN and TP concentrations, which show decreasing trends from the west to the east to the south of the lake. The lake is in a status of slight to moderate eutrophication. The lake water quality is affected by the combination of sewage discharge and non-point source pollutant losses. The inflow rivers including the Danjinlicao River, Tongji River, and Xuebu River are the dominant pollution sources for Changdang Lake. The Danjinlicao River transports 10-12 times the total N and P loads transported by Tongji and Xuebu rivers. Changes in land use and atmospheric deposition are the driving factors of the deterioration of water quality and eutrophication in the catchment.- Published

Aim: To summarize the clinical outcomes, follow-up results and to discuss the optimal therapeutic strategy for pericallosal artery aneurysms (PAAs)., Material and Methods: From January 2013 to May 2017, the charts of 49 patients with PAAs, representing 2.43% of 2,018 consecutive patients with intracranial aneurysms (IAs) were reviewed. The clinical and radiological data of these patients were retrospectively analyzed., Results: There were no technical failures in the clipping group, but one patient in the coiling group presented rebleeding during the operation, resulting in a poor prognosis. Although the difference was not significant, the coiling group had a better complete recovery rate than the clipping group [overall: coiling, n=20 (87.0%) vs clipping, n=11 (68.8%), p=0.33; unruptured PAAs: coiling, n=12 (92.3%) vs clipping, n=5 (83.3%); ruptured PAAs: coiling, n=8 (80%) vs clipping, n=6 (60%), p=0.63]. One patient in the coiling group exhibited recurrence. No patients experienced rebleeding during the follow-up period in either group., Conclusion: In our study, both endovascular coiling and microsurgery were technically feasible and achieved favorable clinical outcomes in patients with PAAs. Longer radiological follow-up is necessary. Patients should be evaluated by a multidisciplinary team prior to determining the optimal treatment modality.

Background: Mothers are the primary source of bacteria for newborns, but it is unclear whether mother-to-newborn transmission occurs prior to, during or after birth. Similarly, the effect of the delivery mode on neonatal microorganisms has been the focus of controversy., Methods: Healthy maternal and neonatal pairs that underwent vaginal birth and caesarean section were enrolled in this study. Meconium, placenta, membrane and amniotic fluid samples for newborns and vaginal, rectal and oral samples for mothers were collected. All samples were amplified and sequenced by a 16S rRNA gene primer set targeting bacteria and archaea., Findings: A total of 550 samples from 36 mother-neonate pairs with vaginal births and 42 mother-neonate pairs with caesarean sections were included in this study. The negative controls showed that the data analysis in this study was not affected by contamination. There was a high diversity of microbial communities in the pregnancy environment of the foetus. Meconium samples could be divided into three distinct types that were not influenced by the delivery method., Interpretation: The distribution patterns of bacterial communities in the meconium, placenta, and foetal membranes were highly similar and had nothing to do with the mode of delivery. 14. Nonadiabatic Electron Dynamics in Orthogonal Two-Color Laser Fields with Comparable Intensities.

- Abstract
We theoretically investigate the nonadiabatic subcycle electron dynamics in orthogonally polarized two-color laser fields with comparable intensities. The photoelectron dynamics is simulated by exact solution to the 3D time-dependent Schrödinger equation, and also by two other semiclassical methods, i.e., the quantum trajectory Monte Carlo simulation and the Coulomb-corrected strong field approximation. Through these methods, we identify the underlying mechanisms of the subcycle electron dynamics and find that both the nonadiabatic effects and the Coulomb potential play very important roles. The contribution of the nonadiabatic effects manifest in two aspects, i.e., the nonadiabatic ionization rate and the nonzero initial velocities at the tunneling exit. The Coulomb potential has a different impact on the electrons' trajectories for different relative phases between the two pulses.

15. Mechanisms of below-threshold harmonic generation in atoms.

- Abstract
Most previous studies have focused on high-order harmonic generation beyond the ionization threshold; mechanisms of below-threshold harmonics are less understood. We schematically study the harmonic emission process in this region by numerically solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation of an atom in laser fields. We show that, besides the quantum path interference mechanism recently identified, the effects induced by the Coulomb potential also have a critical impact on these harmonics. These mechanisms can be distinguished in the structure of harmonic spectra by changing the laser wavelength and peak intensity. We find that the long quantum orbits can influence lower-order harmonics at a higher laser intensity. In addition, we show that the intensity-dependent steps of harmonic yield can disappear for certain harmonic orders, due to the trapping in the Rydberg states before recombination, which can explain recent experimental observations.

16. Classical-quantum correspondence for above-threshold ionization.

- Abstract
We measure high resolution photoelectron angular distributions (PADs) for above-threshold ionization of xenon atoms in infrared laser fields. Based on the Ammosov-Delone-Krainov theory, we develop an intuitive quantum-trajectory Monte Carlo model encoded with Feynman's path-integral approach, in which the Coulomb effect on electron trajectories and interference patterns are fully considered. We achieve a good agreement with the measured PADs of atoms for above-threshold ionization. The quantum-trajectory Monte Carlo theory sheds light on the role of ionic potential on PADs along the longitudinal and transverse direction with respect to the laser polarization, allowing us to unravel the classical coordinates (i.e., tunneling phase and initial momentum) at the tunnel exit for all of the photoelectrons of the PADs. We study the classical-quantum correspondence and build a bridge between the above-threshold ionization and the tunneling theory.

17. [Gut flora and gut-derived endotoxin in minimal hepatic encephalopathy].

- Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relationship of gut flora and gut-derived endotoxin with minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE)., Methods: Patients with hepatitis B virus-related liver cirrhosis (HBV-LC) were screened for MHE using the number connect test-A (NCT-A) and digital symbol test (DST) and divided into the following groups: HBV-LC with (+) MHE (n = 26) and HBV-liver cirrhosis without (-) MHE (n = 25); in addition, one healthy immediate family member of each patient in the HBV-LC + MHE group was enrolled as a control. Each participant provided fecal and blood samples. PCR amplification and 454 pyrosequencing were used to detect bacterial 16S rRNA in feces. Turbidimetric Limulus amebocyte lysate assay was used to detect level of endotoxin in serum. The significance of inter-group differences was assessed by one-way ANOVA or Student's t-test., Results: The three groups showed different distributions of gut flora. The differences in the microbial communities' members and distributions were related to disease or health status, but not to the patient's genetic makeup or diet. In particular, the HBV-LC + MHE patients showed significantly lower amounts of different bacterial species and abundance of these species than the other two (non-MHE) groups (P less than 0.05). The healthy control family members had a richer diversity of gut flora than their counterparts with HBV-LC + MHE (P less than 0.05). The HBV-LV + MHE patients also had higher serum levels of endotoxin., Conclusion: Development of minimal hepatic encephalopathy in patients with HBV-LC may be related to a gut flora disorder or higher levels of endotoxin in serum.

- Abstract
Dyslipidemia is defined as high levels of serum cholesterol and/or triglycerides. Dyslipidemia often leads to severe cardiovascular diseases including coronary heart disease and stroke as the first clinical manifestation, thus threatening the health of human beings. Dyslipidemia diseases can be caused by the genetic factors, including the Mandelian or polygenic inheritance. Traditional methods of identifying genes associated with dyslipidemia are mainly DNA sequencing and linkage analysis, suitable for Mendelian genetic dyslipidemia disease. The rise of next-generation sequencing technology applies to not only Mandelian inheritance, but also complex forms of dyslipidemia diseases. Since 2006, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) screened out many causative genes associated with dyslipidemia, and most of these genes were the previously identified ones by the pedigree-based classic approaches. Furthermore, GWAS revealed that there were the different frequencies of gene variations related to complex forms of dyslipidemia diseases. Most of the identified single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with dyslipidemia are located in non-coding regions and thus people gradually focus on the gene variations of these loci. The identification of the causative genes will provide new insights into the pathophysiology of dyslipidemia diseases and a step toward therapeutic intervention. This review summarized recent pro-gress in heritable dyslipidemia.

- Abstract
The development of a SYBR Green-based duplex real-time PCR is described for simultaneous detection of porcine parvovirus (PPV) and porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV-2) genomes. Viral genomes were identified in the same sample by their distinctive melting temperature (T(m)) which is 77.5°C for PPV VP2 313bp amplicon and 82.3°C for PCV-2 ORF2 171bp amplicon, respectively. The detection limit of the method was 0.01TCID(50)/mL for PPV and PCV-2, about 10 times more sensitive than conventional PCR. In addition, PPV and PCV-2 viral load were measured in 126 field samples, confirming the sensitivity and specificity, and the result showed that 70/126 samples were positive for PPV and 92/126 samples were positive for PCV2 by the duplex real-time PCR. This method may be a useful alternative rapid and reliable method for the detection of PPV/PCV-2 co-infection., (Copyright © 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.)

- Abstract
Inactivated porcine parvovirus (PPV) vaccines are available commercially and widely used in the breeding herds. However, inactivated PPV vaccines have deficiencies in induction of specific cellular immune response. Transfer factor (TF) is a material that obtained from the leukocytes, and is a novel immune-stimulatory reagent that as a modulator of the immune system. In this study, the immunogenicity of PPV oil emulsion vaccine and the immuno-regulatory activities of TF were investigated. The inactivated PPV oil emulsion vaccines with or without TF were inoculated into BALB/c mice by subcutaneous injection. Then humoral and cellular immune responses were evaluated by indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), fluorescence-activated cell sorter analyses (FACS). The results showed that the PPV specific immune responses could be evoked in mice by inoculating with PPV oil emulsion vaccine alone or by co-inoculation with TF. The cellular immune response levels in the co-inoculation groups were higher than those groups receiving the PPV oil emulsion vaccine alone, with the phenomena of higher level of IFN-γ, a little IL-6 and a trace of IL-4 in serum, and a vigorous T-cell response. However, there was no significant difference in antibody titers between TF synergy inactivated vaccine and the inactivated vaccine group (P>0.05). In conclusion, these results suggest that TF possess better cellular immune-enhancing capability and would be exploited into an effective immune-adjuvant for inactivated vaccines., (Copyright © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. - Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relationship between methylation of the CDH1 gene promoter on the expression of E-cadherin and β-catenin, and to evaluate the correlation with clinicopathological characteristics of the colonic carcinoma., Methods: Methylation specific PCR (MSP) was used to detect CDH1 gene promoter methylation in the cancer tissue, adjacent tissues and normal tissues in 68 patients. The expression of E-cadherin and β-catenin was determined by immunohistochemistry staining., Results: The positive rate of CDH1 gene promoter methylation was 32.4% in adjacent tissues and 57.4% in cancer tissue, while no detectable methylation was found in all the normal tissues. The difference was statistically significant. The positive rate of E-cadherin was 92.6% in the normal tissues, 66.2% in the adjacent tissues and 44.1% in the cancer tissues. In all normal tissues, β-catenin was expressed only at the cellular membrane but not in the cytosol or nucleus, while the expression of β-catenin was present in the cytosol or nucleus in 29.4% of the adjacent tissues and 50.0% of the cancer tissues. The positive rate of CDH1 gene promoter methylation was negatively correlated with E-cadherin expression(r=-0.312, P=0.01) and positively correlated with β-catenin cytosolic/nucleus expression(r=0.309, P=0.018). The differentiation and metastasis of colonic carcinoma were associated with the aberrant expression of E-cadherin, β-catenin, and methylation of CDH1 promoter (P<0.05)., Conclusion: CDH1 gene promoter methylation may lead to aberrant expression of E-cadherin and β-catenin in colonic carcinoma, and may play an important role in promoting the invasion of tumor.

- Abstract
The immunogenicity of an infectious laryngotracheitis virus (ILTV) glycoprotein B (gB) plasmid DNA vaccine and the immunoregulatory activity of chicken interleukin-18 (IL-18) were investigated in a challenge model. Two recombinant plasmids, pcDNA3.1/gB (pgB) and pcDNA3.1/IL-18 (pIL-18), containing gB and IL-18 were constructed. Chickens were intramuscularly administered two immunizations 2 weeks apart, and challenged with the virulent CG strain of ILTV 2 weeks later. All animals vaccinated with pgB alone or with a combination of pgB plus pIL-18 developed a specific anti-ILTV ELISA antibody and splenocyte proliferation response. The ratios of CD4(+) to CD8(+) T lymphocytes in chickens immunized with pgB plus pIL-18 were significantly higher than in those immunized with pgB alone. Co-injection of pIL-18 significantly increased the production of gamma interferon and IL-2, indicating that IL-18 enhances the T helper 1-dominant immune response. Challenge experiments showed that the morbidity rate in the pgB group (25 %) was significantly higher than that in the pgB plus pIL-18 group (10 %). The mortality rates in the pgB and pgB plus pIL-18 groups were 10 and 0 %, respectively, and the corresponding protection rates were 60 and 80 %. These results indicate that IL-18 may be an effective adjuvant for an ILTV vaccine.

- Abstract
Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) poses a major threat to the chicken industry worldwide. In this study, we developed a recombinant fowlpox virus (rFPV) vaccine expressing the IBV S1 gene and chicken interleukin-18 gene (IL-18), rFPV-S1/IL18. Recombinant plasmid pSY-S1/IL18 was constructed by cloning chicken IL-18 into fowlpox virus transfer plasmid containing S1 gene and transfected into the chicken embryo fibroblasts cell pre-infected with S-FPV-017 to generate rFPV-S1/IL18. Expression of the recombinant proteins was confirmed by RT-PCR and IFA. We also constructed the recombinant fowlpox virus rFPV-S1 without IL-18. One-day-old chickens were vaccinated by wing-web puncture with the two rFPVs, and the induced humoral and cellular responses were evaluated. There was a significant difference in ELISA antibody levels (P<0.05) elicited by either rFPV-S1 or rFPV-S1/IL18. The ratios of CD4(+) to CD8(+) in chickens immunized with rFPV-S1/IL18 were significantly higher (P<0.05) than in those immunized with rFPV-S1. All chickens immunized with rFPV-S1/IL18 were completely protected (20/20) after challenge with the virulent IBV HN99 strain 43 days after immunization, while only 15 out of 20 of the chickens immunized with the rFPV-S1 were protected.
