The purpose of this study is to make a series of finite element analyses and to show if the new concept of car door reinforcement brings any improvements. For this reason, was made a comparison between the finite element analyses of the actual concept of car door reinforcement and of the new proposal. The conditions for analyses were chosen as to reflect the reality of the situation. The analyses are of a dynamic type. In this way, we took into consideration the same material type for the car door and different material types and dimensions for the reinforcements. With the help of this study, the authors want to prove the improvements that the new proposal of car door reinforcement can bring into the automotive industry.

The continuous rush for development has led the world of automotive engineering to progress that seemed unimaginable just a few years ago. This research paper examined the impact of a topological optimisation of an internal combustion engine block. Starting with the initial conditions, a constraint and load case scenario was established, after which a FEA simulation was conducted to set the reference values. In the last part of the research paper, test results are head-to-head compared to determine and quantify the improvements. This study aims to reduce the volume of the optimised part and increase its overall rigidity. The topology optimisation process represents a good solution for “what if” scenarios. By varying optimisation constraints, the designers can quickly check if the mass reduction of the analysed part is worth the changes.

With the support of advanced technical software one can easily and virtually create and study the SES system (Secondary Energy System - presented in a previous paper), in order to determine if its physical realization is appropriate. In the virtual analyzing and testing mode is much easier in terms of time, costs and resources needed to set up the system in practice. In order to carry out the virtual analysis and testing of the SES system, we used the Catia application for the three-dimensional design and the Matlab numerical computing environment for the theoretical-functional analysis of the system.

The continuous advancement in the field of automotive engineering supports the development of new working techniques regarding the definition of new machine parts. In this study, the topological optimization of a tangentially loaded brake caliper is treated. For the first part of the study, the distribution of forces inside the caliper is explained. In the next stage, the computation stage, the working method approached for topological optimization is described. The results and conclusions are commented in the last part of this paper.

The purpose of this study is to make a series of finite element analyses of the pelvic bone assembly of a pedestrian involved in a car crash. The analyses are of a dynamic type. In this way we took into consideration a normal pelvic bone assembly and an osteoporotic pelvic bone assembly. The conditions for analyses were chosen as to reflect the reality of the situation. With the help of this study the authors want to create a date base which aims to improve the time needed for achieving an accidentology technical expertise.

Continuous progress in the automotive field involves the use of new working methods in the calculation and optimization of the internal combustion engine parts. On this occasion, in this paper, the impact of a topological optimization on the piston in the combustion engine of the conventional or hybrid electric car was studied. Starting from the simulation of the Otto cycle, the dimensional calculation is reached, after which a classical FEA analysis is carried out in order to establish the reference values. In the last part, the data of the classical analysis are compared with those of the topological analysis in order to perform a comparison of their results. The purpose of this study is to reduce the volume of the optimized part and to increase its rigidity.

The conditions for the analyses were chosen as to reflect the reality. The forces which acted on the sacral bone have been experimentally determined. In this study the authors want to highlight the benefit of the finite element analysis in the road accidentology field.

The piston ring is one of the main elements in an internal combustion engine. Together with the cylinder sleeve, the piston ring has two basic functions: (1) contacting the cylinder sleeve to prevent the gases formed above the piston from migrating to the crankcase and (2) as a translation couple, formed of the piston-ring and cylinder-sleeve assembly. Complex tribological phenomena occur in the piston-ring and cylinder-sleeve tribosystem, according to variations in sliding speed, gas pressure, and temperature. This paper presents a method of calculation of the thickness of the lubricant film in the piston-ring and cylinder-sleeve tribosystem, using the Reynolds equation, integrated in specific conditions. According to the Newtonian behaviour of the lubricant, the shear stresses in the lubricant film between the piston ring and cylinder sleeve are determined. A computational procedure to determine flash temperatures in the piston-ring and cylinder-sleeve tribosystem is presented. The theoretical results, including film thickness, sliding speed, gas pressure, and flash temperatures for a complete crankshaft cycle are also presented.
