Background: The wounded healer concept refers to healthcare providers who, in the past, have had similar experiences to those of their clients and now draw on these challenging experiences to assist their clients. This study explored the positive traits of nurses with chronic cardiovascular diseases who transitioned to wounded healers., Methods: A qualitative content analysis study was conducted within hospitals in Tehran, Iran, between November 2023 and March 2024. Sampling was conducted using a purposive sampling method in accordance with the study objectives and inclusion criteria. The data were collected through semi-structured face-to-face interviews. Twenty-three participants, comprising 16 females and 7 males, participated in the interviews. Data analysis was conducted by employing a qualitative content analysis approach, including creating codes, subcategories, generic categories, and main categories. MAXQDA v20 software was utilized to facilitate the analysis process., Results: The data analysis revealed one main category that aligned with the research question: the positive traits of a wounded healer nurse, consisting of three generic categories: (1) traits related to interpersonal and professional relationships; (2) traits related to the professional dimension; and (3) traits related to the personal dimension. wounded healer nurses demonstrate positive traits that enhance patient care., Conclusions: The findings of this study have important implications for nursing practice and education. Aim: The present study aimed to investigate the effect of acupressure on comfort, anxiety, stress, depression, and vital signs in patients undergoing coronary angiography., Methods: This randomized clinical trial was conducted on patients who underwent coronary angiography in Tehran, Iran. Seventy patients were randomly assigned to the intervention and control groups. The intervention protocol consisted of 20 min of acupressure applied to the Yintang point, and standard medical care was applied to the control group. Depression, Anxiety, and Stress questionnaire (DASS-21), General Comfort Questionnaire (GCQ) questionnaires, and standard monitoring were used as data collection tools before and after intervention, as well as after angiography. Data were analyzed using an independent sample t-test, chi-squared, and analysis of variance of repeated measures in SPSS software, and the level of significance was set at 0.05., Findings: The results showed that before acupressure, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups. Anxiety and stress scores and comfort levels decreased significantly after the intervention (p < 0.001), while no significant difference was observed in the depression score (p = 0.873). There was a significant decrease in the blood pressure, breathing rate, and heart rate in the intervention group., Conclusion: Acupressure can reduce the anxiety and stress of angiography candidates and make them more comfortable. It also reduces the blood pressure, breathing rate, and heart rate. Background and Objective: Patients with heart failure experience high hospitalization. However, patients cannot recognize symptoms according to current approaches, which needs to be improved by new self-monitoring instruments and strategies. Thus, we aimed to assess a self-monitoring traffic light diary on outcomes of patients with heart failure., Methods: This was a single-blind, two-arm parallel group randomized controlled trial at the heart failure clinic of Tehran Heart Center (Tehran, Iran). Adult patients with a definitive diagnosis of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (i.e., ejection fraction of less than 40 %), and New York Heart Association functional classes II-IV were included. A block-balanced randomization method was used to assign eligible subjects to the intervention or control group. Baseline data were collected before random allocation. Participants in the intervention group received a comprehensive intervention consisting of (1) self-care education by an Australian Heart Foundation booklet on heart failure, (2) regular self-monitoring of weight and shortness of breath at home, and (3) scheduled call follow-ups for three months. Patients in the control group received usual care. The primary outcome was heart failure self-care; the secondary outcomes were heart failure quality of life, knowledge, and all-cause hospitalization., Results: From June to August 2017, 68 patients were included in the study. The overall age of participants was 55 (13.6) years old, and 71 % of patients were male. A significant association between the intervention and self-care maintenance (β 5.1; 95 % CI 2.50 to 7.70, P < 0.001), self-care management (β 10.6; 95 % CI 6.50 to 14.8, P < 0.001), self-care confidence (β 8.0; 95 % CI 5.0 to 11.0, P < 0.001) and heart failure knowledge (β 1.7; 95 % CI 1.30, 2.04; P < 0.001) was found. The return to social life after a hip fracture is a major concern for patients and a determinant factor in their recovery. However, patients' perceptions of social life after hip fracture are variable and context-dependent. By identifying these perceptions and strategies of patients, interventions can be strengthened and modified. The aim of this study was to identify patients' perceptions of their social life after hip fracture. This qualitative study used inductive content analysis. Twenty patients with hip fractures who were referred to Tehran University of Medical Sciences hospitals were purposefully selected and included in the study. Data were collected through individual, face-to-face, in-depth, semi-structured interviews conducted by a researcher experienced in carrying out such interviews. The interviews were recorded, immediately transcribed verbatim, and analyzed in MAXQDA-10. The interviewing process continued until data saturation was reached. The data analysis led to the extraction of three categories: Disruption of normal social life, Minimal social life, and Social isolation. The results indicated that the social life of these patients is influenced by physical conditions and contextual factors and progresses over time. All patients experienced meaningful disruption of their social life after experiencing hip fractures and movement limitations. The interdisciplinary perspectives provided by these findings can increase awareness of patients' post-fracture social life perceptions and conditions. These findings can also be used to design future programs for interdisciplinary interventions (involving sociology and medical sciences) to improve social life and increase the ability to return to a normal social life. Background: While palliative care for patients with heart failure has gained global attention, in Iran most palliative care interventions have focused only on cancer patients. The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility and acceptability of a telehealth palliative care intervention to improve the quality of life in patients with heart failure in Iran., Methods: This single-site, pilot randomized controlled trial of a telehealth palliative care intervention versus usual care was conducted on patients with New York Heart Association class II/III heart failure recruited from a heart failure clinic in Iran. Under the supervision of a nurse interventionist, intervention participants received 6 weekly educational webinars and concurrent WhatsApp® group activities, with 6 weeks of follow-up. Feasibility was assessed by measuring recruitment, attrition, and questionnaire completion rates; acceptability was assessed via telephone interviews asking about satisfaction and attitudes. Secondary outcomes measured at baseline and 6 weeks included quality of life (PKCCQ and FACIT-Pal-14), anxiety and depression (HADS), and emergency department visits., Results: We recruited and randomized 50 patients (mean age 47.5 years, 60% men). Among those approached for consent, 66% of patients agreed to participate and total study attrition was 10%. Also 68% of patients successfully completed at least 4 out of the 6 webinar sessions. Acceptability: 78% of patient participants expressed willingness to participate in the present study again or recommend other patients to participate. There was a trend towards improvement in anxiety and depression scores in the intervention group though the study was not powered to detect a statistical difference., Conclusion: This nurse-led, early telehealth-palliative care intervention demonstrated evidence of feasibility, acceptability, and potential improvement on quality of life in patients with heart failure in Iran., Trial Registration: The study was registered at the Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials (IRCT) at 14 November, 2021, and can be found on the Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials Platform. Considering the adverse effects of procrastination on the care and treatment of patients with type-2 diabetes, examining the how, why, and contributing factors of procrastination in this group of patients through in-depth studies seems essential. This is a grounded theory research in which 28 participants were selected by theoretical purposive sampling from patients with type-2 diabetes, their families, and healthcare personnel. Data were collected through interviews, observations, field notes and memos. The data were analyzed using Corbin and Strauss approach (2015) and MAXQDA 2010 software. The data obtained were classified into seven main categories. Health-related procrastination in patients with type-2 diabetes began to form in the patients when they perceived the hardships of self-care as their main concern. The ominous shadow of the disease, the prison of family care, patient-related factors, health system shortfalls, sociocultural background, and the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic laid the groundwork for abandoning diabetes self-care. Patients tried to abandon their diabetes self-care by adopting strategies such as escaping the reality of the disease, self-medication and procrastination. Wavering health-related procrastination was identified as the central category of this research. The formation of health-related procrastination in patients with type-2 diabetes is a multidimensional process depending on the patients' background that consists of their interactivity with their family, the health system, and the society. Background: Nurses have a crucial role in identifying spiritual needs and providing spiritual care to patients living with cancer., Aim: This study evaluated Iranian oncology nurses' spiritual care competence and its relationship with job satisfaction and moral distress., Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 280 Iranian oncology nurses in 2020 using four questionnaires: demographic questionnaires, the Spiritual Care Competence Questionnaire (SCCQ), the Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) and the nurses' Moral Distress Questionnaire (MDS-R)., Findings: The mean scores indicated a medium to high Spiritual Care Competence (SCC), mild to moderate moral distress and high job satisfaction. There was a positive correlation between SCC and external job satisfaction (r=184, p<0.05) and a negative correlation between SCC and moral distress (r=-0.356, p<0.05)., Conclusions: SCC diminishes with decreasing external job satisfaction and increasing moral distress. To improve the SCC of nurses working with patients living with cancer, it is recommended that nursing managers and policymakers revise the organisational policies to tackle the obstacles and consider the related factors to provide an ethical climate, implement quality spiritual care and increase job satisfaction.

Backgrounds and Aims: Patients with multiple sclerosis (pwMS) need self-management (SM) skills to manage their symptoms and problems. An essential step to SM improvement is accurate SM assessment using valid and reliable instruments. The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Multiple Sclerosis Self-Management Scale-Revised (MSSMS-R)., Methods: This cross-sectional methodological study was conducted from December 2021 to June 2022. The face, content, and construct‎ validity of MSSMS-R were evaluated. Construct validity was evaluated through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and evaluating convergent and discriminant‎ validity using the data obtained from 210 randomly selected MS patients. The reliability of the scale was also evaluated through the test-retest stability and the internal consistency evaluation methods., Results: The face validity was confirmed and the content validity ratio and index values of all items were more than 0.62 and 0.79, respectively. CFA revealed the acceptable construct validity of the scale after omitting items 21 and 22. In convergent and discriminant validity evaluation, the total score of MSSMS-R had significant positive correlation with the total mean scores of the Multiple Sclerosis Self-Efficacy Scale ( r  = 0.36; p  < 0.001) and the physical health composite‎ ( r  = 0.31; p  < 0.001) and the mental health composite‎ ( r  = 0.39; p  < 0.001) dimensions of the 54-item Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life scale ‎and significant inverse correlation with the total mean score of the Beck Depression Inventory ( r  = -0.28; p  < 0.001). The Cronbach's alpha values of the scale and its subscales were 0.86 and 0.65-0.90 and their test-retest intraclass correlation coefficients were 0.97 and 0.95-0.99, respectively., Conclusion: The Persian MSSMS-R is a valid and reliable scale and can be used in future studies for SM assessment among pwMS., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest., (© 2023 The Authors. Introduction: Heart failure (HF) as a long-term clinical syndrome is associated with inadequate self-care behaviours, a feeling of uncertainty and frequent hospitalisation. In recent years, empowerment has evolved for improving chronic disease management. Nevertheless, there is a lack of studies investigating remote care interventions such as a tele-empowerment programme in patients with HF. Therefore, this protocol proposes a randomised controlled trial which aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a comprehensive tele-empowerment programme on self-care behaviours, uncertainty and readmission in patients with HF., Methods and Analysis: The study is a double-arm and parallel-group randomised controlled trial in which a 10-week intervention, including 6 weeks of a comprehensive tele-empowerment programme and 4 weeks of follow-up, will be compared with usual care. A total of 96 eligible patients with HF will be recruited and randomly assigned to the intervention or control group. The patients in the intervention group will join virtual groups and receive the five-step tele-empowerment programme through the internet. The primary outcomes include self-care behaviours and uncertainty which will be measured with valid instruments at baseline and 10th week. The secondary outcome is the number of patients' hospital readmissions and will be assessed at the end of the study. Descriptive statistics will be used to describe variables. According to the types of variables, appropriate statistical tests including two-sample t-tests, Χ 2 , analysis of covariance or linear regression will be performed. Background: Therapeutic Communication (TC) is the process of purposeful and understandable communication between patients and caregivers, which helps facilitate optimized care. Here, we assessed nursing students' interaction with patients and its related factors., Materials and Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, a convenience sample of 240 undergraduate nursing students from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran, completed consent forms, a demographic information questionnaire, and a TC questionnaire in 2018. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics., Results: TC score of most students was moderate and good, with the mean (SD) of 143.07 (12.86). Factors, including gender (Χ 2 = 8.02, p ≤ 0.01), semester (Χ 2 = 4.01, p ≤ 0.05), employment (r = 0.49, p ≤ 0.01), and workshop attendance (r = 0.80, p ≤ 0.01), influenced the students' TC knowledge and skills., Conclusions: Future nurses' TC can be improved by part-time employment and practical training. Background and Objectives: Health-related procrastination refers to a delay in the performance of health-related activities, which is a rather neglected subject despite being critical. Due to the adverse effects of procrastination on the care and treatment of patients with type-2 diabetes, it is necessary to explore procrastination among this group of patients through in-depth studies. The present research was conducted to explain different types of health-related procrastination in patients with type-2 diabetes., Materials and Methods: This qualitative study applied content analysis with 13 patients with type-2 diabetes selected via purposive sampling. Data were collected through individual and semi-structured interviews. The data were then analyzed using Lundman and Graneheim content analysis method., Findings: Based on the analysis of the data, instances of health-related procrastination in patients with type-2 diabetes were classified into six main categories, including minimizing self-care, poor adherence to treatment, poor nutritional habits, poor adherence to drug regimen, disregard for disease monitoring, and a sedentary lifestyle., Conclusions: The results of this study provide an in-depth understanding of the various forms of health-related procrastination in patients with type-2 diabetes. Background: Traumatic amputation can cause permanent disabilities. These patients have many difficulties in reintegration into life and work. This research was conducted to evaluate re-integration into life care plan in patients following upper limb amputation., Methods: This study is a clinical trial with complex mixed method design. In this study, the effectiveness of finalized designed care plan was assessed between intervention and control group at 3 months follow-up. Reintegration into normal life index and Disability of arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) questionnaire were used for data collection, and the collected data were analyzed by SPSS statistical software version 26., Findings: Results showed that, the reintegration into normal life care plan was significantly effective in the intervention group compare to control group (t=2.17, p,<0.001). Background: The theory-practice gap can be described as a lack of ability to relate the knowledge acquired in academics and research work with practice. This study aims to assess the knowledge and the perception of Nigerian nurses on the theory-practice gap in Nursing., Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional correlational study was carried out with a sample of 196 nurses who were working in the Federal Medical Centre Keffi and Aminu Kano Teaching hospital in Kano, all from the northern part of Nigeria, from April to June 2019. The participants were selected using a convenient sampling technique, where a self-administered questionnaire was utilized to collect the data and analysis was undertaken using SPSS., Results: The results of this study showed that 83.80% of respondents had good knowledge and 89.10% of the respondents had good perceptions. The levels of knowledge were significantly different in correlation with the educational level of respondents (χ 2 = 13.88, df = 6, p = 0.022), which was determined using a Fischer exact test. Also, the level of perception was significantly different when considering the nature of work participants undertook (X 2 = 7.65, df = 2, p = 0.022)., Conclusions: Given the participants' awareness and perceptions in this study, it is clear that they are well informed of the theory-practice gap. Background: Recovery after surgery is a complex process since it depends on many factors, such as the patient's sex, age, surgery type, and presence of other diseases. This study aimed to translate and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the quality of recovery-15 (QoR-15) questionnaire in Iranian patients undergoing surgery., Methods: The Persian version of the QoR-15 questionnaire was developed after translating and culturally validating the instrument. Content validity was assessed with a sample of clinicians (n = 15) and face validity was assessed in a sample of patients (n = 15) undergoing elective surgery. The final questionnaire was completed by 450 patients (n = 450) 24 h after surgery. Construct validity was assessed using exploratory factor analysis in patients (N = 250). Convergence and divergent validity were also assessed. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's alpha and construct reliability was also assessed. Test-retest reliability was assessed on a randomly selected sub sample of 50 patients. Finally, the questionnaire was completed by a further sample of 200 patients 24 h after surgery and construct validity was assessed using confirmatory factor analysis., Results: According to Lawshe, all items received at least an acceptable ratio for content validity ratio (CVR). Item content validity index (I-CVI) of each item was greater than 0.79. Construct validity indicated good fit statistics in the five components of CFA, and CFI was > 0.93. The reliability of the QoR-15 questionnaire was acceptable based on Cronbach's alpha score (> 0.001), test-retest reliability value (0.81), and CR (> 0.7)., Conclusion: The Persian version of the QoR-15 questionnaire was equivalent to the original one regarding both conceptual and linguistic aspects. This study also confirmed the validity and reliability of the Persian version of the QoR-15 questionnaire. Objective: Description and discussion dimensions of Integrated Care Model., Methods: A descriptive study is done that describe a technological innovation, intervention strategies for professional performance., Results: Integrated Care Model (ICM) has two main categories include individual and Group-and disease-specific Model. First, is used for risky patients or with comorbidities. In second category; Chronic Care Model (CCM) is common form of Integrated Care Model to improve resultants in the patients with chronic condition, to move from acute care to integrate, regular, long-lasting, preventative and community-based nursing., Final Considerations: It is important to consider patient as an active member of the treatment team. It seems to be essential to monitor performance of care system. On the other hand, offer multidisciplinary care leads to present desirable care, tailored to the specific needs of patients regarding safety, patient-centered care and their culture.

Background: The patients' companions can help improve transitional care as an important missing link, but their role is not clear. The aim of this study was to explore the role of the patients' companion in the transitional care from the open heart surgery intensive care unit (OH-ICU) to the cardiac surgery ward., Methods: This was a qualitative descriptive study using conventional content analysis that was conducted from September 2019 to February 2020 in Tehran, Iran. Purposeful sampling method with maximum variation was performed among the patients eligible for transfer to the cardiac surgery ward, their companions, nurses, and physicians in charge of transferring from the OH-ICU to the ward. 27 in-depth and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 25 participants , and data were analyzed using the Granheim and Lundman method. The data were managed using the MAXQDA software (version 10.0)., Results: Based on our analysis, the theme "Dual role of the patients' companion" and its two categories, "Companion as a facilitator" and "Companion as an inhibitor", were extracted. Emotional support, satisfaction of basic needs, care arm, alarm bell, and communication bridge were the sub-categories of the first category, and Interfering with care and creation of tension were those of the second category., Conclusion: We concluded that the patients' companions can play an important role in transitional care, especially as emotional support and system assistants due to the structure of the health care system and Iranian cultural context . Introduction: Understanding adaptation is strongly influenced by the culture and beliefs of every society. By increasing knowledge about the different dimensions which require the adaptation in different aspects requiring the nurse adaptation in oncology, a clear definition of the problem can be stated. Because of the lack of a standard and appropriate tool for the culture of the Iranian society, this aimed at developing and validating the nurse adaptation tool in the oncology departments., Methods: This research is a methodological study and an exploratory mixed method being conducted in three main steps of conceptualization, production of items, and field test. Inductive conceptualization was performed through qualitative methodology and conventional content analysis approach; in the second step, developed instrument was evaluated in terms of face validity, content validity, and construct validity. In the third step, sampling of oncology nurses was done and exploratory factor analysis was performed for evaluating the construct validity, adequacy of sampling, and dimensioning. Cronbach's alpha was calculated for checking the reliability of the instrument., Results: The oncology nurse adaptation questionnaire was formed with twenty items in four main dimensions, including "emotional factors," "supportive factors," "work-related factors in the ward," and "factors related to job conditions." Background and Aims: Upper limb amputations cause numerous physical and psychosocial challenges including disruptions to quality of life as well as limitations in participation in society. While there is a great deal of literature on patients undergoing lower limb amputation, information on upper limb amputation is limited. This study aimed, therefore, to explore care needs in patients undergoing upper limb amputation., Materials and Methods: An integrative review was conducted. The five-stage framework introduced by Whittemore and Knafl was used: problem identification, literature search, data evaluation, data analysis and presentation of results. Searches were performed based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria for online and unpublished research between 2008 to 2018. Data was extracted using CASP and STROBE checklists and analyzed using conventional inductive content analysis., Results: Conventional content analysis method, applied to the full texts of the final articles, included 21 articles (4 qualitative articles and 17 quantitative articles). The care needs identified included 33 care needs in 6 domains: social needs, health care system, rehabilitation program, necessity of self-care, assisting in timely and correct decision-making and patient and family education., Conclusion: Rehabilitation plans should be made for all patients, with special attention to male workers. This should begin at the time of admission and continue after their discharge. Routine follow up after discharge is essential. Purpose: To determine the vision-related quality of life (VR-QoL) and its dimensions in corneal transplant recipients., Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on 100 patients who underwent penetrating keratoplasty. Data collection tools included a demographic questionnaire, satisfaction questionnaire, and Persian version of the 39-item National Eye Institute Visual Functioning Questionnaire (NEI-VFQ 39)., Results: The composite score of VR-QoL in corneal transplant recipients was 54.39 ± 9.22 (32.9-71.01). The highest mean score among subscales was related to color vision (74.75 ± 27.63) and the lowest related to dependency (31.06 ± 31.02). The results showed that there is a reverse correlation between VR-QoL with both age ( r = -0.364; P < 0.001) and the numbers of years after the transplantation ( r = -0.362; P < 0.001). However, there was a correlation between satisfaction and VR-QoL ( r = 0.679; P < 0.001). Furthermore, the results showed that there is a significant difference in VR-QoL between men and women ( P < 0.001) and also a significant difference in VR-QoL between unilateral and bilateral graft recipients ( P < 0.001)., Conclusions: The corneal transplant has the highest impact on color vision and the lowest on dependency. Background: Therapeutic communication (TC) between nursing students and patients is essential for providing high-quality care. Purpose: This study aimed to introduce a questionnaire for the assessment of TC among Iranian nursing students and to examine its psychometric properties. Methods: This mixed-method research was conducted in two phases of developing tool content and validation of the scale. Results: Five factors were specified, explaining 42.89% of the total variance. The confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the structure of the scale. Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the scale was 0.83. Conclusions: The final questionnaire was a valid and reliable scale for the self-assessment of TC among nursing students. Furthermore, scholars can use this instrument to compare students' TC before and after educational interventions. Impact statement: Nursing students' TC questionnaire is a suitable instrument for assessing nursing trainees' TC and enhancing their engagement in learning.

Background: Hematopoetic stem cell transplantation is considered as a standard treatment for cancer patients to stay hopeful toward treatment outcome. However, these patients experience many complications which might affect different aspects of their life. The aim of this study was to investigate the lived experience of patients after hematopoetic stem cell transplantation and introduce supportive care strategies. Materials and Methods: In this study, Van Manen's Hermeneutic phenomenological approach was used. Eleven patients (7 males and 4 females) were chosen by targeted sampling from visitors of Shariati Hospital's outpatient clinic. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and the final data were analyzed by MAXQDA 10 software. Results: Data analysis revealed that the main theme was resiliency with two sub-themes of "not surrendering to disease" and "feeling closer to God". Conclusion: Participants declared that transplantation was like a second chance for life and considered this opportunity as a gift from God to overcome their disease. Background: Patients with heart failure (HF) reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) have symptoms that are more severe and experience a higher rate of hospitalization compared with HF preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) patients. However, symptom recognition cannot be made by patients based on current approaches. This problem is a barrier to effective self-care that needs to be improved by new self-monitoring instruments and strategies., Objective: This study describes a protocol for the self-monitoring daily diaries of weight and shortness of breath (SOB) based on the traffic light system (TLS). The primary objective is to compare the self-care between the intervention and control group. Comparison of HF knowledge, HF quality of life (HFQOL), and all-cause hospitalization between the 2 groups are the secondary objectives., Methods: A single-blind randomized controlled trial is being conducted at the HF clinic at Tehran Heart Center (Tehran, Iran). Sixty-eight adult patients of both genders will be enrolled during admission to HF clinic. Eligible subjects will be assigned to either the intervention or control group by a block balanced randomization method. Baseline surveys will be conducted before random allocation. Participants in the intervention group will receive an integrated package consisting of (1) HF self-care education by an Australian Heart Foundation booklet on HF, (2) regular home self-monitoring of weight and SOB, and (3) scheduled call follow-ups for 3 months. Patients in the control group will receive no intervention and they only complete monthly surveys., Results: This study is ongoing and is expected to be completed by the end of 2018., Conclusions: This is the first trial with new self-monitoring instruments in Iran as a low and middle-income country. Background: Health communication (HC) is considered an important task of nurses to provide high quality and holistic care as well as to improve patient health. The nursing student-patient HC is an abstract concept and needs to be clarified. Therefore, this study was conducted to increase the knowledge about nursing students' HC with patients by considering various participants' viewpoints., Materials and Methods: In this conventional qualitative content analysis, 18 semi-structured interviews were conducted with six nursing students, six nursing instructors, and six patients in educational hospitals affiliated to the University of Medical Sciences. Credibility, confirmability, dependability, and transferability were established to validate the trustworthiness of the data. The process of data collection and analysis lasted 9 months., Results: After data analysis, two categories were generated: (A) "junior nursing student-patient communication," with two subcategories of "performing social communication with patients" and "failure to build therapeutic relationships with patients," and (B) "senior nursing student-patient communication" with two subcategories of "establishing effective communication with patients" and "performing one-way communication with patients.", Conclusions: More attention should be paid to improve HC through shifting towards student-centered approaches in nursing curriculum. Introduction: Infrequency and low exposure to critically ill patients requiring airway management will lead to reduction in the skills and performance of the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) over time. The present study was conducted primarily aiming to evaluate airway management in stationary ambulance simulations and identify the factors affecting Endotracheal Intubation (ETI) success rate., Method: This is a simulation study. The study population comprised of active EMTs in prehospital emergency bases in Hamadan province. The participants were placed at the back of an ambulance to perform the airway management scenario, which had already been prepared. To investigate the factors affecting the success (≤3 attempts) or failure rate of intubation, both unadjusted and adjusted odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) for univariate and multivariate regressions were reported., Results: 184 subjects with the mean age of 33.91+6.25 years and the median work experience of 8 years were studied (54.3% with a history of training in the past year). The median number of previous intubations performed by technicians in the last year was 7 times (IQR 4-9). The total success rate at ventilation, intubation and back-up airway were 50.67%, 53.29%, and 50.0%, respectively. Out of the total 552 attempts for ETI placement, 58.2% of the technicians were able to perform ETI within 3 attempts. Univariate analysis showed that age (OR=1.06, P=0.022), previous number of ETIs (OR=2.49, P<0.001), work experience (OR=1.13, P<0.001), and previous ETI training (OR=1.85, P=0.041) were significantly associated with ETI success rate. After adjustment, previous number of ETIs (OR=2.66, P<0.001) was the most effective factor on ETI success rate., Conclusion: Success rate in airway management, especially ETI, is low. Although the final year of nursing undergraduate programs that focus on clinical education are planned to prepare nursing students to better transition to the real world of health care service; evidence has shown that this program is not sufficient to reach this end goal. This controlled trial study was to investigate the effectiveness of a basic clinical skills refresher course for nursing students before entering the internship program. The sample consisted of 160 undergraduate nursing students assigned into two groups. The intervention was a three-day refresher course directed by nurse instructors for intervention group focused on 10 basic nursing procedures in the clinical skill lab. The control group did not receive any intervention. The students' anxiety, clinical self- efficacy and clinical skills practice were measured before and after intervention in both groups. The results indicated that the students who took part in the refresher course experienced lower anxiety levels, higher levels of clinical self-efficacy, and have better clinical skills during their internships. The undergraduate nursing curriculum can be strengthened by the basic clinical skills refresher course. Background and Aim: Therapeutic communication, the fundamental component of nursing, is a complex concept. Furthermore, the poor encounters between nursing student and patient demonstrate the necessity of instruction regarding therapeutic communication. The aim of this study was to define and clarify this important concept for including this subject in the nursing curriculum with more emphasis., Methods: A literature search was conducted using keywords such as "nursing student", "patient" and "therapeutic communication" and Persian-equivalent words in Persian databases (including Magiran and Medlib) and English databases (including PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus and ProQuest) without time limitation. After extracting concept definitions and determining characteristic features, therapeutic communication in nursing students was defined. Then, sample cases, antecedents, consequences and empirical referents of concept were determined., Results: After assessing 30 articles, therapeutic communication defining attributes were as follows: "an important means in building interpersonal relationships", "a process of information transmission", "an important clinical competency", "a structure with two different sections" and "a significant tool in patient centered care". Furthermore, theoretical and clinical education and receiving educators' feedback regarding therapeutic communication were considered as antecedents of the concept. Improving physical and psychological health status of patient as well as professional development of nursing students were identified as consequences of the concept., Conclusion: Nursing instructors can use these results in order to teach and evaluate therapeutic communication in nursing students and train qualified nurses. Background: The consequences of a corneal transplant are evaluated and classified by care providers, but understanding and interpretation of the results varies between patients, and creates different views for them and influences their lives in different ways while these influences are largely unknown., Aim: This study aimed to explore understanding of new life in patients after corneal transplantation., Methods: This qualitative study was conducted using a hermeneutic phenomenological approach in Tehran in 2016. Twelve corneal transplant recipients (7 men, 5 women) who were chosen purposefully from penetrating corneal transplant recipients, participated in this study. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data. The content of the interviews was transcribed and analyzed using Van Manen's methodology., Results: Data analysis led to the emergence of several main themes, among which "having a new sense" and "fear and hope" were two of the most important themes., Conclusion: It can be inferred from the overall participants' experiences that corneal transplant has brought about a new look at life for patients. In recent years, particular attention has been paid to nursing students' therapeutic communication (TC) with patients, due to a strong emphasis on patient-centered education in the Iranian healthcare reform. However, various studies have highlighted the poor communication of future nurses. Therefore, researchers have used qualitative methodology to shed light on the antecedents and consequences of nursing students' TC and promote it. We carried out a conventional content analysis using semistructured interviews with a purposefully selected sample of 18 participants, including nursing instructors, students, and patients in hospitals affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences. "Communication readiness," "predisposing factors," and "continuity of care" were identified as the three major themes. "Communication readiness" consisted of "physical readiness," "academic readiness," and "developmental readiness." "Predisposing factors" included "contextual factors" and "educational condition." "Continuity of care" included "patient satisfaction" and "improving nursing student's motivation to communicate with patients." "Communication readiness" and "predisposing factors" constitute the antecedents of nursing student's TC with patients, and "continuity of care" is considered as its consequence. More attention needs to be paid by the regulators to TC instruction in both theoretical and clinical educational curriculum. Furthermore, all nurses must be informed about the importance of TC in promoting patient outcomes and quality of care.

The concept of blended learning in the field of nursing and medicine has been accepted. Blended learning has been extensively used thanks to the development of communication technologies and the availability of Internet services. Meanwhile, experiences-based research, by all accounts, can help the expansion of such a learning modality. Therefore, this study was designed to explain nursing doctoral students' experiences of blended learning. To attain this goal, a descriptive phenomenology method was used to illustrate experiences as they are experienced by the participants in the study. With regard to the nature of the investigated phenomena and the existing methods for the inductive analysis, Colaizzi's method of data analysis was used. The findings of the study led to the discovery of three main themes: "failure", "synergy" and "specific interaction". Each of the themes has been further divided into some sub-themes.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic disease that needs special self-care strategies. The current study aimed at determining the effects of a self-care program on the severity of symptoms and quality of life of patients with IBS. In this randomized controlled clinical trial, 119 patients were randomly assigned to the experimental (n = 60) and control (n = 59) groups. Patients in both groups received the usual treatment of IBS by a gastroenterologist. The control group did not receive any intervention, whereas the experimental group was trained in the self-care program. The process of implementing the self-care program included designing and determining the content validity of the self-care training package, individual training, the first follow-up call, group training, and the second follow-up call. The instruments for collecting data were IBS-Quality of Life and IBS-Symptom Severity Scale. Two sets of evaluations (before and 2 months after the intervention) were done for both groups. The data were analyzed using SPSS software, Version 16. The results showed that there was not a significant difference between the two groups in the severity of symptoms and quality of life before the intervention (p > .05); however, the 2 groups were significantly different after the intervention (p < .0001). Implementation of the self-care program resulted in the improvement of quality of life and reduction in the symptom severity in the experimental group after the intervention (p < .0001), whereas no significant changes were observed in the control group (p > .05). Hence, the data supports that self-care program was effective in improving the quality of life and reducing the severity of symptoms in patients with IBS.

Background: Patient satisfaction is a key determinant of the quality of medical care. Moreover, satisfaction can be used as a criterion for examining the adequacy of the care, health, and competency of personnel., Objectives: This study was conducted to determine the satisfaction of patients receiving trauma care in the emergency department of a hospital affiliated with Isfahan University of Medical Sciences., Patients and Methods: This simple clinical trial was performed on 104 patients admitted for traumatic injury to an emergency department in Iran. Given that patients frequently enter an emergency department for care, the sampling of patients in the department was done on days that were randomly assigned to the study group. The experimental group received trauma intervention in four areas from their admission to the emergency department to their discharge from the hospital, and the control group received routine nursing care. The data were collected through a questionnaire that asked for demographic characteristics and then went on to ask about patient satisfaction. The satisfaction questionnaire was completed after the trauma intervention at the end of patients' stay in the hospital. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22 software and descriptive statistical tests and analytical tests (independent t and Chi-square)., Results: The mean score for total satisfaction after trauma intervention in the experimental group (45.6 ± 3.69) was significantly different from that of the control group (32.01 ± 7.78) (P < 0.001). Therefore, the levels of total satisfaction in the experimental and control group were favorable and relatively favorable, respectively., Conclusions: In this study, trauma intervention increased satisfaction in patients admitted to the emergency department. Therefore, managers and personnel of hospitals and healthcare training centers are urged to implement trauma intervention in their hospitals or healthcare training centers.

Objective: To investigate the effect of pulmonary rehabilitation on the self-efficacy of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease., Methods: The randomised case-control trial was conducted from December 2010 to February 2011 at Masih-Daneshvari Hospital, Tehran, Iran, in an outpatient clinic and comprised patients with mild to moderate chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The patients were randomly divided into experimental and control groups. The pulmonary rehabilitation programme for the experimental group consisted of education about the disease, diet therapy, stress reduction methods, effective cough, breathing exercises, and muscle stretching exercises. The patients were encouraged to practise the programme at home three times per week for 7 weeks. They were followed up through weekly telephone contacts. The control group received only routine visits and weekly telephone follow-up. Data were gathered using the Persian version of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease self-efficacy scale, which was filled out at baseline and 7 weeks post-intervention. SPSS 16 was used for statistical analysis., Results: Of the 66 patients in the study, 34(51.5%) were in cases and 32(48.5%) were controls. The overall mean age was 56.65±8.83 years and 47(71.2%) were males. There was a significant difference between the two groups in total score of self-efficacy (p<0.001) and so was the case with all subscales of self-efficacy (p<0.001)., Conclusions: Pulmonary rehabilitation programme can be used by nurses during discharge planning for patients in order to improve all subscales of self-efficacy of those suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Background: Studies introduce maternal and neonatal safety phenomena as important challenges to the public health, particularly in low-income countries. However, few researches are conducted on the identification of safety issues in maternity hospitals in Iraq. It was the first study on nurses' perspectives on safety issues in Kurdistan, Iraq., Objectives: The current study aimed to describe nurses' perspectives on what constitutes a safe maternity service in Kurdistan, Iraq., Patients and Methods: A qualitative design, based on a content analysis approach, was used. Ten Kurdish nurses who worked in the delivery room of Kurdistan, Iraq maternity hospital were recruited through purposive sampling. Semi-structured interviews were performed to collect data. All interviews were audiotaped and transcribed verbatim. Sampling continued to the level of data saturation. Data analysis was performed based on the steps suggested by Graneheim and Lundman., Results: Thematic analysis led to the identification of six main categories including stressful job, lack of schedule and job description, providing care with limited resources, professional unaccountability, regional sociopolitical factors, and inadequate training., Conclusions: Iraqi nurses identified factors such as limited health resources, lack of job description, and professional unaccountability as major safety issues in maternity services. These findings alarm the need to ensure the provision of females and neonates with appropriate care. This, however, would require coordination between Iraqi Kurdistan health authorities to provide midwifery care facilities, high-quality and relevant staff training, and an effective healthcare system in the maternity units.

Background: Clinical nurses need lifelong learning skills for responding to the rapid changes of clinical settings. One of the best strategies for lifelong learning is self-directed learning. The aim of this study was to explore Iranian clinical nurses' activities for self-directed learning., Methods: In this qualitative study, 23 semi-structured personal interviews were conducted with nineteen clinical nurses working in all four hospitals affiliated to Isfahan Social Security Organization, Isfahan, Iran. Study data were analyzed by using the content analysis approach. The study was conducted from June 2013 to October 2014., Findings: Study participants' activities for self-directed learning fell into two main categories of striving for knowledge acquisition and striving for skill development. The main theme of the study was 'Revising personal performance based on intellectual-experiential activities'., Conclusions: Study findings suggest that Iranian clinical nurses continually revise their personal performance by performing self-directed intellectual and experiential activities to acquire expertise. The process of acquiring expertise is a linear process which includes two key steps of knowledge acquisition and knowledge development. In order to acquire and advance their knowledge, nurses perform mental learning activities such as sensory perception, self-evaluation, and suspended judgment step-by-step. Moreover, they develop their skills through doing activities like apprenticeship, masterly performance, and self-regulation. The absolute prerequisite to expertise acquisition is that a nurse needs to follow these two steps in a sequential manner.

Background: The first encounter between an instructor and his/her student influences the development of their mutual relationship. This phenomenon has received little attention in the literature within the context of nursing education., Purpose: This study explores and describes qualitatively the subjective experience and perceptions of nursing students related to their first encounter with instructors in both classroom and clinical settings., Methods: A purposeful sampling method was utilized to select 15 nursing students from a nursing school in Iran to participate in semistructured interviews. Data were analyzed using a qualitative content analysis approach., Results: Data analysis identified three main themes: (a) preexisting expectations, with the four subthemes of socially shared expectations, personal expectations, profession-related expectations, and reputation-directed expectations; (b) student's judgment, with the three subthemes of assessing the instructor, assessing criteria, and good or bad beginning; and (c) future interactions, with the two subthemes of constructive decisions and destructive decisions., Conclusions/implications for Practice: The results show that the initial student-instructor encounter is a process in which students rely heavily on preexisting expectations to assess and judge the initial interaction with their instructor. The findings of this study may help nursing instructors in various national and cultural settings increase their awareness of the factors that influence their first encounters with students. Greater awareness may help positively shape student perspectives of the instructor's role and encourage students to collaborate with the instructor in the teaching and learning process in order to create a better outcome for both.

Presence of nurses in policy making will result improvement of nursing practice, and increase qualification of patients' care, but still few nurses are involved in policy debates and health reforms and their status in policy making for nursing is not clear. The aim of this study was to elucidate Iranian nurses' status in policy making for nursing in health system. This is a qualitative study. Using purposive sampling 22 participants were interviewed to gain deep understanding from the phenomenon of status of nurses in policy making. Of these 2 were not nurses but the members of Iran's council for health policy making. Data were analyzed by employing conventional content analysis. Nurses' status in policy making declared base on the implications of three main themes including "the policy making framework", "perceived status of nurses in policy making", and "the manner of nurses' participation in policy making". The conclusion of the present study is that Policy making for nursing is a subcategory of Iran's macro health policies. What made the status of nurses more efficient in policy making for nursing was their practice and rate of participation in the appointed positions and the society. Results of this study represented major points of weakness in nursing policies and some recommendations for modifications.

Introduction: Clinical nurses are in need of being able to adapt to the ever-changing environment of clinical settings. The prerequisite for their successful adaptation is to be lifelong learners. An approach for making nurses lifelong learners is self-directed learning., Aims: This study was undertaken to evaluate a group of Iranian clinical nurses' readiness for self-directed learning and its relationship with some of their personal characteristics., Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 2014. A random sample of 314 nurses working in three hospitals affiliated to Isfahan Social Security Organization, Isfahan, Iran, was recruited to complete the Fisher's Self-directed Learning Readiness Scale., Findings: In total, 279 nurses filled the scale completely. The mean of their readiness for self-directed learning was 162.50±14.11 (120-196). The correlation of self-directed learning readiness with age, gender, marital status, and university degree was not statistically significant., Conclusion: Most nurses had great readiness for self-directed learning. Accordingly, nursing policy-makers need to develop strategies for promoting their self-directed learning. Moreover, innovative teaching methods such as problem solving and problem-based learning should be employed to prepare nurses for effectively managing the complexities of their ever-changing work environment.

Background: Establishing professional communication between physicians and nurses regarding their supplemental roles in health care for patients is unavoidable. Existing studies have reported on related problems concerning ineffective professional collaboration among health care providers., Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine Iranian bachelor of nursing students' attitudes regarding collaboration between physicians and nurses at Tehran University of Medical Sciences., Patients and Methods: This study was an inferential cross sectional study. The study population consisted of all first and fourth academic-year Iranian bachelor of nursing students at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (277 individuals), who were selected by convenience sampling. The participation rate was 97.47% (270 individuals). A questionnaire including demographic information and professional experience was used to gather information (included 12 questions). Additionally, the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration (JSAPNC) was also used (included 15 questions). Data were analyzed using the SPSS software. The applied statistical tests included: χ(2), t student and ANOVA test., Results: The obtained mean attitude score for the first academic year (51.28 ± 4.98) was higher than the mean attitude score of the fourth academic year nursing students (50.56 ± 4.05). However, the results of the independent statistical t-test showed no significant difference between the two groups of students (P = 0.322). In the four dimensions of JSAPNC, concerning only the dimension of physician authority, there were significant differences between the two groups of students (P < 0.05). The obtained means for the first and fourth academic year of bachelor nursing students reflected their positive attitudes about collaboration between physicians and nurses., Conclusions: The positive attitude of most nursing students found in this study showed the need for appropriate and effective collaboration between medical staff; this collaboration will give patients and prospective patients the best possible care.

Background: Educational Environment (EE) is considered as a key component of educational curriculum., Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the EE of Nursing and Midwifery School of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) by using Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM)., Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 2013. Totally, 500 nursing or midwifery students were recruited to the study by using the quota sampling method. Study data were collected by using a demographic questionnaire and the Persian version of DREEM questionnaire. The reliability of questionnaire was confirmed by Cronbach alpha which was 0.876 and 0.68-0.866 for the whole questionnaire and its domains, respectively. The data were analyzed by using SPSS v. 21.0., Results: Totally, 350 completely-filled questionnaires were included in the final analysis. Most of the participants were nursing students (79.7%), female (74.6%), single (86.0%), bachelor (86.9%), first-year (36.9%), with mean age of 22.5 years. The mean item score of the DREEM was 2.09±0.49 (104.39 from 200). Moreover, the mean item scores of the domains were as follows, perception of learning: 1.93±0.61; perception of teachers: 2.42±0.56; perception of educational atmosphere: 2.05±0.59; academic-self-perception: 2.06±0.65; and social-self-perception: 2.17±0.62. All domains were statistically significant except the perception of learning and educational atmosphere (p<0.001) CONCLUSION: Although the educational environment of the study setting was found to be positive, it requires improvements. Strategies such as adopting student-centered approaches, revising the educational curriculum, strengthening student-teacher relationship, being sensitive and responsive to students' educational needs, providing constructive feedback to them, and creating a comfortable, friendly, and supportive atmosphere can improve the educational environment.

Background: The product of the educational nursing programs in Iran is training nurses who less have professional apprehension and commitment for participating in professional decisions. Whereas nurses especially those in high academic levels are expected to more involve in professional issues., Objective: The aim of this study was to explore Iranian nurse leaders' experiences of making educational nursing policy with emphasizes on enhancement of nurses' participation in professional decisions., Methods: We used a qualitative design with thematic analysis approach for data gathering and data analysis. Using purposive sampling we selected 17 experienced nurses in education and making educational nursing policies. Data gathered by open deep semi-structured face to face interviews. We followed six steps of Braun and Clarke for data analysis., Results: In order to enhance nurses' participation in professional decisions they need to be well educated and trained to participate in community and meet community needs. The three main themes that evolved from analysis included opportunities available for training undergraduate students, challenges for PhD nurses and general deficiencies in nursing education. The second theme includes three sub-themes; namely, the PhD curriculum, PhD nurses' attitudes and PhD nurses' performance., Conclusions: We need for revising and directing nursing education toward service learning, community based need programs such as diabetes and driving accidents and also totally application of present educational opportunities. The specialization of nursing and the establishment of specialized nursing associations, the emphasis on teaching the science of care and reinforcing the sense of appreciation of pioneers of nursing in Iran are among the directions offered in the present study.

Nurses need to establish communication with other healthcare professionals to facilitate the process of care. Healthcare professionals have complementary roles in providing care to patients. As the key members of the healthcare team, nurses also have an important role in establishing communication among other healthcare professionals. The final outcome of professional communication is effective care and improved patient outcomes. The aim of this study was to explore nurses' role in establishing professional communications with other healthcare professionals. This was a descriptive qualitative study. The study was conducted by using the content analysis approach. A purposive sample of sixteen healthcare professionals was recruited from six teaching hospitals affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran. Study data were gathered by conducting personal face-to-face semi-structured interviews and were analyzed by using the qualitative content analysis approach. The three main themes of the study were 'Nurse as the mediator of communication', 'Nurse as the executor of others' duties, and 'Nurse as a scapegoat'. Study findings can be used by nurses, managers, and health policy-makers to develop effective strategies for exactly determining and clarifying nurses and other healthcare professionals' roles as well as for informing the public and other healthcare professionals about nurses' roles and importance.

Objective: One of the basic issues in clinical studies is to receive the informed consent; that is to say, all the activities applied in patient's involvement in the information, decision-making, ability and volunteering in diagnosis, cure and care. In as much as most cancer patients require information about their individual needs, the present study is conducted to determine the perceived information from the informed consent of clinical studies in cancer patients., Methods: This is a descriptive study. Fifty cancer patients hospitalized for participating in the clinical study was chosen according to the convenience sampling. Tools used in this research included the questionnaire (individual and social features) and the check list about patient's right and cancer patient's information before and after receiving informed consent in clinical studies (10 items on a Likert rating scale). To validate the study, content and formal validation was used. Data in this research were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, mean and standard deviation) and the software of SPSS 16., Result: In general, the mean of the scores obtained from cancer patients' perceived information before completing the informed consent of the clinical studies was 14 ± 3.5 and after consent of the clinical studies was 16 ± 2.4. The cancer patients' perceived information before and after consent of the clinical studies was weak., Conclusions: Based on the findings of the present study, the rate of the information the cancer patients received, before completing the informed consent form, was low, but after completing the informed consent form this rate was again low. Therefore, conducting similar and wider studies is recommended to unveil the factors affecting perceiving information and how to promote the quality of the informed consent in other hospitals in Iran.

This study aimed to describe the expectations of Bachelor of Science nursing students regarding what constitutes an effective clinical education. In this study, a semistructured interview process was utilized with 17 nursing students studying in sophomore, junior and senior years in training units of hospitals affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Content analysis was employed to analyse the data. Data analysis led to identification of three main themes: (i) appropriate communication and interaction between instructors and students; (ii) incorporation of both theory and practice in clinical education, with two subthemes, one being the presence of the instructor as a factor for reducing the gap between theory and practice and the other being evaluation based on appropriate criteria; and (iii) having specialized instructors, with a specific emphasis on the instructor's knowledge and motivation as important factors in learning. The findings reveal the significant role of mentors in providing effective educational and clinical experiences. Therefore, mentors must strive to develop their knowledge and clinical behaviours according to students' needs in clinical settings., (© 2013 Wiley Publishing Asia Pty Ltd.)

The nurse teachers tried to have a complete understanding of the educational contents, to transfer knowledge to nursing students better, and to facilitate the process of education. The purpose of this study was to explore the lived experiences of Iranian nursing students regarding the characteristics of academic nurse teachers. In this hermeneutic phenomenological study, data were collected via in-depth, semi-structured interviews with 12 Iranian nursing students and the audio-taped and transcribed interviews analyzed according to Van Manen´s method. The main theme emerged during data analysis, was "humanistic approach to nursing education". The theme was extracted from 2 sub-themes including 'ethical necessities' and 'effective interaction'. The findings present greater understanding of humanistic approach to nursing education.

Purpose: Given the wide disagreement over the definition of critical thinking in different disciplines, defining and standardizing the concept according to the discipline of nursing is essential. Moreover, there is limited scientific evidence regarding critical thinking in the context of nursing in Iran. The aim of this study was to analyze and clarify the concept of critical thinking in nursing education in Iran., Methods: We employed the hybrid model to define the concept of critical thinking. The hybrid model has three interconnected phases--the theoretical phase, the fieldwork phase, and the final analytic phase. In the theoretical phase, we searched the online scientific databases (such as Elsevier, Wiley, CINAHL, Proquest, Ovid, and Springer as well as Iranian databases such as SID, Magiran, and Iranmedex). In the fieldwork phase, a purposive sample of 17 nursing faculties, PhD students, clinical instructors, and clinical nurses was recruited. Participants were interviewed by using an interview guide. In the analytical phase we compared the data from the theoretical and the fieldwork phases., Results: The concept of critical thinking had many different antecedents, attributes, and consequences. Antecedents, attributes, and consequences of critical thinking concept identified in the theoretical phase were in some ways different and in some way similar to antecedents, attributes, and consequences identified in the fieldwork phase. Finally critical thinking in nursing education in Iran was clarified., Conclusion: Critical thinking is a logical, situational, purposive, and outcome-oriented thinking process. It is an acquired and evolving ability which develops individually. Such thinking process could lead to the professional accountability, personal development, God's consent, conscience appeasement, and personality development., (Copyright © 2014. Context: Nursing is a stressful job that could create physical and psychological disorders. Many studies presented information on stress, effects of coping strategies, and job satisfaction of nurses within health setting. We aimed to identify and describe nursing stresses, coping strategies and job satisfaction of Iranian nurses who are working or worked in different wards., Evidence Acquisition: In this review, we studied peer-reviewed journal articles on the field of stress, coping strategies and job satisfaction in nursing practice, especially Iranian nurses, which were published between 2000 and 2013. In this regard, we searched databases of PubMed, Elsevier, Google, BMJ, PMC, and MEDLINE., Results: The majority of the studies (60%) had analyzed the effect of coping strategies, experiences and perception of job-related stresses in Iranian nurses working in hospitals. In some of the reviewed studies (60%), the majority of the samples enrolled Iranian nurses. Forty percent of studies selected a maximum sample size of 565 (44%) participants in 2011. Nursing stress scale employed at 30% of the studies was the most commonly used strategy. This reviewed studies also revealed a combined measurement (60% of studies), based on categorical stress measurement, effects of coping strategies, and job satisfaction methods. Three studies explored the relationship between job stress and job satisfaction. For instance, the majority (74.4%) of nurses reported job satisfaction., Conclusions: Effect of coping strategies and job satisfaction on Iranian nurses is a well-accepted issue and has important positive outcomes on several areas of health discipline.
