This article examines moral conflicts identified by students (N = 302) and teachers (N = 20) in the context of Iranian schools. The data were gathered in 2016 from two lower secondary schools in Tehran, one for girls and one for boys. The content analysis of students' essays and teachers' interviews reveal that moral conflicts in Iranian secondary schools have four main themes: 1. Matters related to Staff's behaviour, 2. Matters related to Students' behaviour, 3. Sensitive issues, and 4. Matters related to Parents' behaviour. In addition to discussing the main categories and subcategories, the article discusses differences between teachers and students. This paper presents a picture of morality in Iranian secondary schools by clarifying situations in which both the school staff and the students need perspective on one another as well as needing to be morally sensitive. This article can guide educators in delivering moral education both in teaching and in teacher education.

This paper addresses the faculty perception on web-based instruction in order to explain the nature of learning and instruction in this setting. Using a mixed method approach, the research studied a sample of 132 University Faculty (lecturers and professors) in University of Kurdistan. The research tools were interview and questionnaire. The results of Exploratory Factor Analysis suggested that five basic components could explain the nature of learning and instruction of web-based instruction in higher education: "the lack of authentic learning, autonomy in learning tasks, the weakness of faculty role in instruction, technical skills in web-based instruction and infrastructure and policy-making." These five components could explicate two more fundamental themes: the overall nature of learning and teaching in web-based instruction and web-based obstacles.

This article examines Iranian secondary students' (N = 336) life purposes. Economic and hedonistic life goals were the most valued. Relationships in terms of having a family and children were also appreciated. In the students' views, religiousness was associated with social goals such as helping others in need and volunteering in the community. Gender differences in students' life goals occurred only in aesthetic goals, which applied more to girls than to boys. K-Cluster analysis identified four purpose profiles: self-oriented dabblers, beyond-the-self (BTS) dreamers, self-oriented life goal pursuers and purposeful youth. The dominant profile among the youth was self-oriented life goal pursuer (37%). The study validated Damon's conceptual work on purpose profiles in a previously unstudied cultural context.

This paper examines Finnish (n = 464) and Iranian (n = 556) teachers' views on their competence to teach purpose. "Purpose" is defined as a stable intention to accomplish something that is both meaningful to the self and of consequence beyond the self over time. The study revealed that all Iranian teachers evaluated their competence for teaching purpose as being high, regardless of the subject taught. In contrast, among Finnish teachers, there were statistically significant relationships between the subject taught and teachers' self-perceptions: religious education seemed to provide a subject in which Finnish teachers can guide students to consider explicitly their purpose in life and plans for the future, while science and mathematics appeared to offer the most challenging contexts for teaching purpose. Hence, the results challenge Finnish in-service and pre-service teacher education programmes to create new approaches and new cultures for mathematics and science education, which intentionally take into account the moral aspects of teaching. Moreover, regression analysis revealed that teachers' ethical sensitivity predicted their views on teaching purpose in both countries. Results indicate that improving teachers' ethical sensitivity skills in teacher education programmes could provide a significant path for supporting teachers' competence in teaching purpose.

In this study, we investigated the culture-invariant and culture-dependent nature of teachers' ethical sensitivity in two countries. Our case study involves teachers from Finland (n = 864) representing Western culture, and from Iran (n = 556) representing Eastern culture. Culturally bound elements of ethical sensitivity were studied with the Ethical Sensitivity Scale Questionnaire. The analyses revealed that 'Caring by connecting to others' is a central, culturally invariant dimension of ethical sensitivity in both cultures. In the dimensions of ethical sensitivity, the dimension of 'Taking the perspective of others' is particularly dependent on culture, given the differences in the cultural dimensions of power distance and the collectivity of the countries studied.

This paper draws on findings from an empirical study on the epistemic nature of teachers' practice. It particularly addresses teachers' reasoning that lies behind their practice in order to gain insight into the epistemic weights embedded in the teachers' practice. Drawing on qualitative data gathered from six class teachers in Helsinki in two academic years, the research identified that the concept of "care" is at the core of the teachers' reasoning. Moral care and caring pedagogy were found to be two significant examples of the teachers' care, and that each of these were sustained through epistemological values. This paper discusses how epistemic weights associated with the teachers' care as a philosophical base serve to clarify the normative dimension of teaching, thus demonstrating how teaching can be praxis. The present study focused on the epistemology of teachers' practical knowledge by addressing the following research question: how do teachers attempt to reason about their practices and their practical knowledge? The results indicated that teachers supported their practical knowledge claims using the "practical argument". Within this conceptual framework, they relied on contextual grounds that call for the fact that something should or should not be "done", rather than something is "true" or "false". Contextual grounds, then, were found to be backed up by two significant types of warrants: moral ethos, and "what works" notion. Depending on what kind warrants they used, teachers' practical knowledge was interpreted to be based on two different epistemic statuses: "practicable" knowledge and "praxial" knowledge. Summary: Power quality has become one of the most vital challenges in the planning of smart distribution grids due to popularity and myriad applications of power electronic devices. This paper introduces a new method based on network reconfiguration to efficiently deliver the energy demand of standalone Diesel/PV/Battery microgrids with improved power quality. The feeder reconfiguration is performed to decrease power loss, decrease the total harmonic distortion (THD), and improve voltage sag indices. Mathematical models of Diesel/PV/Battery standalone system are integrated with harmonic power flow algorithms to implement the concept. Reconfiguration algebraic equations along with nonlinearities introduced by Diesel/PV/Battery standalone system are solved by means of Non‐Dominated Sorting Differential Evolution Algorithm (NDSDEA). The proposed methodology is carried out on a 33‐bus standalone microgrid. The results have shown that reconfiguration not only improves the overall performance of the standalone energy system but also is effective to improve the quality of power delivered to the significant consumers.
