Search

Data are recalled on the relative yields of charged pions,charged kaons,protons,antiprotons,tritiun nuclei, anti-tritium, He3 nuclei and anti-He3 antinuclei produced at 0 degrees by 200-240 GeV/c protons on Beryllium and Aluminium targets. A search for the production of long-lived particles with charges 2/3, 1, 4/3, is described; for negative particle production the upper limits obtained at the 95% Confidence Level were at the level of 10-11 with respect to the production of known particles., Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures

In this report are recalled in a simple form some of the main concepts about neutrinos, starting from their discovery and classifying them in the Standard Model of the Microcosm. Then are presented the main natural sources of neutrinos, emphasizing the enormous number of neutrinos in the Universe. Some information on neutrinos produced by nuclear reactors and by particle accelerators are then considered. The ANTARES underwater neutrino telescope is located in the Mediterranean Sea about 40 km from Toulon at a depth of 2475 m. In its 12 line configuration it has almost 900 photomultipliers in 295 floors. The performance of the detector is discussed and several results are presented, including the measurements of downgoing muons, atmospheric neutrinos, search for a diffuse flux of high energy muon neutrinos, search for cosmic point sources of neutrinos, multi messenger astronomy, searches for fast magnetic monopoles and slow nuclearites. A short introduction summarizes the experimental high energy field of neutrino oscillations and the oscillation notations. Then the results obtained by experiments on atmospheric neutrino oscillations are summarized and discussed. At the beginning of the new century a number of long baseline neutrino beams became available. The results obtained by different long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments are considered, including the first possible event $\nu_{\mu} \rightarrow \nu_{\tau}$ in appearance mode. The Standard Model (SM) of Particle Physics was tested to great precision by experiments at the highest energy colliders (LEP, Hera, Tevatron, SLAC). The only missing particle is the Higgs boson, which will be the first particle to be searched for at the new Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The SM anticipated that there are 3 types of left handed neutrinos. Experiments on atmospheric and solar neutrinos (made in Japan, Italy, Canada, Russia and the US) have shown the existence of neutrino oscillations, which imply that neutrinos have very small mass differences and violate the conservation of individual leptonic numbers. Neutrino oscillations were verified in long baseline neutrino experiments (in Japan and in the USA); and cosmology has given reasonably precise indications on the sum of the neutrino masses. In this general lecture will be summarized some of the main properties of the SM and some of the main results obtained in the field and the experiments in preparation. A historical summary is made on the measurements concerning the rising total hadron-hadron cross sections at high energies. The first part of this paper concerns the total cross section measurements performed at the Brookhaven, Serpukhov and Fermilab fixed target accelerators; then the measurements at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR), and at the CERN and at the Tevatron Fermilab proton-antiproton colliders; finally the cosmic ray measurements at even higher energies.
