Traditional methods for wrinkled tubes involve welding processes and additional elements, such as plates, screws, rivets, and guides. Considering all the limitations of these processes, this work aims to propose a methodology that allows for maximising the manufacturing process of carbon steel tube joints with seaming using cold forming and minimising the cost of the final product. Therefore, the present work aims to develop a computational model, based on the finite element method, to optimise the deformation process of T6 Aluminium tubes (ø 45 × ø 38.6 mm) with a length of 120 mm. The method uses a steel die with cavities to achieve wrinkled tubes by a forming process. This numerical study was carried out using the Ansys® 2022 R2 software. A nonlinear material and an incremental structural analysis were used. The applied methodology allowed the optimisation of process parameters, the application of forces during tube deformation, the geometry of the die cavity, boundary conditions, and mesh discretisation. Numerical modelling was carried out using the axial symmetry of the assembly (tube–die), enabling a simplified and efficient execution of the final tube geometry. The results were analysed based on the maximum pressure applied to the tube, and the vertical and horizontal displacements of the deformed component, thus obtaining the tube flow with complete filling inside the die cavity at the end of deformation. The die geometry that produced the best results presented a cavity with a radius of curvature of 3 mm, 6 mm in height, and with a depth of 4 mm. The optimised result of the die geometry generated satisfactory results, with the displacement on the x-axis of the tube of approximately 2.85 mm, ensuring the filling of the cavity at the end of the process. For this, the maximum pressure exerted on the tube was approximately 374 MPa.

We evaluated the safety and effectiveness of botulinum toxin A (BoNT/A) in the treatment of spasticity in 20 children with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy (CP). All the patients received injections in the gastrocnemius and soleus, and 15 received injections in the adductors. The total dose varied from 70 to 140 U (99.75±16.26 U), or 7.45±2.06 U/kg per patient. The treatment improved the patients' walking and gait pattern significantly. There was also a significant alteration in the heel-ground distance and increased motion of the ankle joint. These structural changes in the feet were sustained until the end of the follow-up, although the same was not observed for the functional parameters. Three patients complained of weakness in the lower limbs. In conclusion, BoNT/A is safe and effective when used in a single session of injections and produces a sustained structural modification of the lower limbs. However, functional changes are temporary and are only observed during the peak effect of the drug.Para avaliação da segurança e eficácia do tratamento com toxina botulínica A (TB-A) na espasticidade na paralisia cerebral (PC), foram selecionadas 20 crianças com a forma diplegia espástica. Todos os pacientes receberam injeções nos gastrocnêmios e sóleos, 15 receberam doses nos adutores da coxa. A dose total variou de 70 a 140 Us (99,75±16,26 U), 7,45±2,06 U/Kg por paciente. O tratamento com a TB-A melhorou significativamente a deambulação e o padrão de marcha. Houve também significativa alteração da distância tornozelo-solo e aumento da amplitude de movimento da articulação do tornozelo. Essas mudanças estruturais dos pés se mantiveram até o final do acompanhamento. O mesmo não foi observado com parâmetros funcionais. Três pacientes apresentaram fraqueza em membros inferiores. Conclui-se que a TB-A, em uma única aplicação, é segura e eficaz. Há modificação sustentada da estrutura motora dos membros inferiores, porém mudanças funcionais são temporárias, durante o pico de ação do medicamento.

Artisanal small‐scale fisheries are crucial for subsistence and food security, especially in developing countries. However, artisanal fishers face stressors, such as economic and social marginalization, conflicts, and overfishing. Socio‐economic attributes potentially influence their risk perception. We investigated risk perception among artisanal fishers in a Marine Protected Area through interviews and semi‐structured questionnaires. Risk perception was positively influenced by fishing environment and negatively influenced by a lack of religious beliefs. Offshore fishers faced more operating conditions and time at sea, with higher risk of losses, and perceived more health and conflict risks. Inshore fishers have higher perception of environmental degradation. Prioritizing different risk perceptions is essential for effective fisheries management. Separate management plans for offshore and inshore fisheries are recommended due to varying catch, environmental perception, socio‐environmental risks, and exploited resource characteristics among artisanal fisher groups. Abstract Background Medical education has evolved based on the application of pedagogical actions that place the student as the protagonist of the learning process through the use of active teaching methodologies. Within this context, higher education teachers should use strategies that focus on the student and his/her context and avoid traditional teaching methods. Specifically in medical schools, there is an even greater challenge since the teaching methods of medical curricula differ from those used in previous schooling. Consequently, students acquire their own style of processing information that is often incompatible with the profile of medical schools. This may be one of the factors responsible for the lack of motivation among undergraduates. Objective The aim of this study was to characterize the learning styles of students enrolled in a Brazilian medical school using the Felder-Soloman Index of Learning Styles (ILS). Methods This was a cross-sectional, descriptive, quantitative study that included students from the 1st to the 6th year of a Brazilian medical school. The students participating in this study voluntarily answered 44 questions about learning styles of the Felder-Silverman instrument validated in Brazil. The instrument was divided so that each domain consisted of 11 questions with two response options in which only one could be selected. For each domain, a score (1 point) was assigned to the selected option (a, b) of the question and the learning style category was determined as the difference between these values. For data collection and tabulation, we used the Learning Syle Platform (EdA Platform) developed based on Felder’s studies since this system processes information about the dimension analyzed, the preferred style, and the most striking characteristics of each style. Results The results showed that sensing was the preferred learning style of the students, followed by the sequential and visual styles. It was not possible to determine whether gender or age influences the choice of learning methods because of the homogeneity of the results. Conclusions The present data will enable teachers of the institution involved in this study to plan pedagogical actions that improve the students’ self-awareness, as well as their teaching-learning skills, by choosing the most adequate active methodologies for the medical education programs considering the individuality of each student and class.

RESUMO As madeiras das espécies Gmelina arborea e Samanea foram utilizadas para produção de chapas de partículas com granulometrias de 2,08-0,61 e 5,61-0,61 mm, utilizando adesivo uréia-formaldeído (10%). As chapas produzidas com partículas 5,61-0,61 de G. arborea, mostraram melhores resultados de resistência à flexão estática, enquanto que aquelas produzidas com partículas menores proporcionaram menor inchamento em espessura. As chapas produzidas a partir da madeira de S. saman e maior granulometria, apresentaram melhor resistência à ligação interna. As chapas produzidas a partir das espécies estudadas proporcionaram resultados que atendem os valores mínimos especificados na norma Americana CS 236-66.

ABSTRACT Background: Here, Leishmania presence in sand flies from Três Lagoas, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, after visceral leishmaniasis (VL) was investigated. Methods: In April 2022, two light traps were deployed within and around the residence for two days post-VL case report. Results: A total of 120 Lutzomyia longipalpis were collected. Suprapyloric flagellates were found in a female sand fly with eggs and residual blood during midgut dissection. Sequencing of ITS1 and cytb fragments confirmed Leishmania infantum DNA and identified Homo sapiens as the blood source, respectively. Conclusions: This study emphasizes the importance of monitoring sand flies in VL endemic areas.

Bioethanol industries generate a large volume of high strength wastewater called vinasse. This study compares the performance of microbial fuel cells (MFCs), inoculated with a single‐strain or a binary consortium, to produce bioelectricity while simultaneously reducing the COD levels and removing the vinasse color. The MFCs achieved the power density of 124.0 ±0.2 mW/m2 when inoculated with a strain of Shewanella oneidensis (MFC/So) and 178.0 ±0.8 mW/m2 after inoculation with a strain of Clostridium butyricum (MFC/Cb). However, a better performance in power density was reached by the MFC inoculated with both cultures (MFC/So‐Cb), which produced 205.0 ±0.5 mW/m2. Additionally, the results showed a decrease in the initial COD (36,440 mg/L), as well as a decolorization. Thus, the MFC/So, MFC/Cb, and MFC/So‐Cb caused a reduction in COD by 41.8 ± 2.4%, 20.1 ± 4.4%, and 53.8 ± 5.9%, respectively, and in color by 62 ± 4%, 70 ± 4%, and 58 ± 5%, respectively. These findings demonstrate that high power density can be produced using raw vinasse as a substrate in air‐cathode MFCs. However, the coulombic efficiency was low indicating that the COD conversion into electricity must be improved. Novelty: This work combines fermentative and metal‐reducing bacteria, instead of mixed cultures with unknown microorganisms, to break down complex organics in the vinasse, simultaneously to electricity generation. No studies have been found concerning Shewanella oneidensis and Clostridium butyricum strains for harvesting bioelectricity from bioethanol wastewater. Second, different from early studies, this work uses the real high strength wastewater, without dilution or any pre‐treatment, before MFC process. Third, here we consider the total biomass at the end process to calculate the COD removal rate. The carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) contents of the soil, when associated through the C:N ratio, make it possible to obtain indices that reveal the quality of soil organic matter (OM), as well as the decomposition efficiency, conversion efficiency of carbon and organic nitrogen into their mineral forms, and the dynamics of these nutrients in the soil. According to the literature, the C:N ratio can be between 30 - 100 in native forest areas and 20 - 30 in cultivated areas. The objective of this work was to evaluate the relationship between soil carbon and nitrogen in integrated systems, monoculture pasture, and native Cerrado forest. Undeformed soil samples were collected once at a site located in the municipality of Barbacena, MG, at depths 0-5 cm, 5-10 cm, 10-20 cm and 20-30 cm in four distinct areas, designated as treatment 1: pasture monoculture (MP) of Urochloa decumbens cv. Basilisk with 27 years of plantation; treatment 2: grass-legume combination (GLC), composed of Urochloa decumbens cv. Basilisk and Arachis pintoi cv. Amarillo with 25 years of plantation; treatment 3: silvopastoral system (SSP), composed of Eucalyptus urophylla planted 13 years ago in an area where Urochloa decumbens cv. Basiliskwas was already established for 14 years; and treatment 4: native forest (NF) of the Cerrado biome with 37 years of regeneration. The quantification of total organic C was performed according to the method proposed by Yeomans and Bremmer (1988); and the determination of total N was performed as proposed by Bremner and Mulvaney (1982) and adapted by Mendonça and Matos (2005). The experimental design completely randomized, with five replications in each treatment. The data were submitted to statistical analysis using the Kruskall-Wallis test and Dunn's test. The NF system showed the highest C:N ratio at all evaluated depths (32.3 – 40.6), being statistically similar to MP (30 – 37) and SSP (25.5 – 28.5). Iron aluminides are considered as candidate materials for high temperature applications for their excellent high temperature corrosion and oxidation resistance. In the present work, iron-aluminide coatings were developed by friction surfacing (6351 aluminum alloy deposited on a low-carbon steel substrate) followed by a diffusion heat treatment. The initial coatings were found to be geometrically homogenous and adhered well to the steel substrate. The heat treatment process was carried out at 550 °C for 48, 72 and 96 h and the resulting coatings were characterized in terms of microstructure, chemical composition, hardness distribution and phase composition. After heat treatment, the coating/substrate interface morphology was modified and presented patterns typical of Fe-Al intermetallic formation, as well as a substantial increase in hardness (>900 HV) relative to the initial as-deposited condition. With the diffusion treatment, initially Fe2Al5 was found to develop in the coatings, which was converted into FeAl2 after longer exposures.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of live weight at first mating on reproductive performance in the first and second reproductive years. For that purpose, the reproductive history of 221 heifers mated for the first time between the years of 2003 and 2012 was evaluated. Heifers were grouped into three weight classes at the age of 24 months: 50-59.9% (55%), 60-69.9% (65%), and 70-80% (75%). The pregnancy rate in the first reproductive year in heifers from weight classes 55%, 65%, and 75% was 38.0%, 56.4%, and 69.0%, respectively. The pregnancy rate in the second reproductive year was not affected by weight at first mating (p > 0.05) and corresponded to 41.6%; 42.1%, and 50.4% in the three weight classes, respectively. The weight class of heifers before mating at the age of 24 months affected reproductive performance at first mating but did not increase the pregnancy rate in the second reproductive year.

ABSTRACT Due to the need to implement sustainable systems of high productivity for farming, the aim of this study was to evaluate the agronomic characteristics of forage sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) intercropped with Urochloa brizantha, Megathyrsus maximum and/or pigeon pea in a non-irrigated area of a low-altitude region of the Cerrado. A randomised block design was used, of plots split over time with six treatments and four replications over two agricultural years. The treatments were (I) monocropped forage sorghum, and forage sorghum intercropped with (II) U. brizantha, (III) M. maximum, (IV) U. brizantha and pigeon pea, (V) M. maximum and pigeon pea, and (VI) pigeon pea. The following were evaluated in the sorghum and its respective intercrops: plant height, stem diameter, stand and productivity. Intercropping sorghum with M. maximum reduced fresh and dry matter production in the sorghum, albeit with no significant effect on total dry matter production for the intercrop. Sorghum intercropped with M. maximum gave a higher percentage of panicles than the other intercropped systems.

Este estudo tem como propósito investigar diferentes capitais - econômicos, sociais, culturais e simbólicos - mobilizados por empreendedores em dois centros de compras da cidade de Montes Claros (MG): o Quarteirão do Povo e o seu principal Shopping Center. O objetivo é melhor compreender diferenças e semelhanças entre essas duas modalidades de centros comerciais no que tange aos empreendimentos e perfis de seus empreendedores. Para tal, foi conduzida pesquisa qualitativa por meio da realização de trinta entrevistas em profundidade com empreendedores locais, contemplando as categorias teóricas do estudo, em particular as noções de Campo, Habitus e Capitais de Boudieu (2008). Quanto aos achados do estudo, constata-se uma diversidade de tipos de empreendimentos, bem como diferentes níveis de experiência, de escolaridade, histórias e perfis de gestão dos empreendedores investigados. Observa-se, também, a predominância de dois tipos de empreendedores: os Tradicionais e os Modernos. No caso do Quarteirão do Povo, predominando ambos esses tipos, e no Shopping Center, dominando o Empreendedor Moderno.

Rivers in the Amazon have among the greatest biodiversity in the world. The Xingu River, one of the tributaries of the Amazon River, has a length of 1640 km, draining 510,000 km2 in one of the most protected regions on the planet. The Middle Xingu region in Brazil has been highly impacted by mining and livestock farming, leading to habitat fragmentation due to altered water quality. Therefore, comparing two rivers (the preserved Xingu River and the impacted Fresco River) and their confluence, the aims of the present study were to (1) assess the land uses in the hydrographic basin; (2) determine the water quality by measurements of turbidity, total solids, and metals (Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb, Zn, and Hg); (3) compare the zooplankton biodiversity; and (4) to evaluate the avoidance behavior of fish (Astyanax bimaculatus) when exposed to waters from the Xingu and Fresco Rivers. Zooplankton were grouped and counted down to the family level. For the analysis of fish avoidance, a multi-compartment system was used. The forest class predominated at the study locations, accounting for 57.6%, 60.8%, and 63.9% of the total area at P1XR, P2FR, and P3XFR, respectively, although since 1985, at the same points, the forest had been reduced by 31.3%, 25.7%, and 27.9%. The Xingu River presented almost 300% more invertebrate families than the Fresco River, and the fish population preferred its waters (>50%). The inputs from the Fresco River impacted the water quality of the Xingu River, leading to reductions in local invertebrate biodiversity and potential habitats for fish in a typical case of habitat fragmentation due to anthropic factors.

Grape pomace obtained as a byproduct of industrial processing of grapes retains nutrients and substances with anthelmintic potential such as saponins, tannins, and flavonoids. Therefore, this study evaluated the in vitro ovicidal and larvicidal activity of hydroalcoholic grape pomace extract against gastrointestinal nematodes of sheep. The anthelmintic evaluation was performed by in vitro assays with eggs and larvae of nematodes obtained from naturally infected donor sheep. The grape pomace extract showed high in vitro ovicidal and larvicidal activity with LD50 values of 0.30 mg/mL for egg hatching inhibition, 1.01 mg/mL for larval development inhibition and 100% efficacy in larval migration inhibition assays at all concentrations evaluated. The effect of tannins was evaluated by the addition of 50 mg/mL polyvinyl polypyrrolidone to grape pomace extract at the concentration of 12.5 mg/mL. The in vitro ovicidal activity of grape pomace was reduced by only 15% after polyvinyl polypyrrolidone addition, indicating that other phytochemicals also contribute to the ovicidal activity displayed by the extract. Our results demonstrate that grape pomace exhibits in vitro anthelmintic activity, suggesting that, beyond its nutritional potential, this pomace can also be an ally for gastrointestinal nematode control in sheep. Abstract: The objective of this work was to determine the most economically viable integrated no-tillage crop-livestock system by intercropping sorghum with tropical forages or dwarf pigeon pea, succeeded by soybean or corn, over a two-year period. The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design with four replicates. The treatments consisted of forage sorghum intercropped with: 'Marandu' grass; 'Marandu' grass and dwarf pigeon pea; 'Mombaça' grass; 'Mombaça' grass and dwarf pigeon pea; and dwarf pigeon pea and single sorghum, harvested for silage in the first cut and regrowth, succeeded by soybean or corn. The following calculations were made: effective operational cost, total operational costs, gross revenues, operational income, profitability index, equilibrium price, and equilibrium productivity. These variables were determined for individual crops, as well as for the sum of the crops occupying the same area over time. The sorghum consortia with 'Mombaça' grass, with or without dwarf pigeon pea, had 18 and 14% lower productivity and profitability, respectively, than the sorghum consortia with 'Marandu' grass, with or without dwarf pigeon pea. Soybean in succession requires less chemical control of the 'Mombaça' grass than corn in succession.

O Poli (Tereftalato de Etileno), mais conhecido pela sigla PET, é um dos polímeros de engenharia mais utilizado na produção embalagens, principalmente de frascos. A produção de garrafas de refrigerante, por exemplo, consiste em dois processos: injeção e sopro. É notável que o processo de injeção de PET seja afetado pela umidade ambiente, pois diversas injetoras possuem um secador no próprio silo de alimentação do equipamento. Desta forma, buscou-se avaliar se as condições ambientes também exerciam alguma influência no processo de sopro do PET. A análise foi realizada de forma amostral em dias diferentes, com condições ambientes diferentes e dentro da empresa Brasiaço Indústria e Comércio Ltda. Foi observado que apenas uma das condições ambientes afeta o processo de sopro de PET. Portanto, foi desenvolvido e proposto um método para correlacionar tal condição ambiente aos parâmetros do processo de sopro.

The intensification of pasture production has increased the use of N fertilizers—a practice that can alter soil greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the fluxes of CH4, CO2, and N2O in the soil of Urochloa brizantha ‘Marandu’ pastures fertilized with different sources and doses of N. Two field experiments were conducted to evaluate GHG fluxes following N fertilization with urea, ammonium nitrate, and ammonium sulfate at doses of 0, 90, 180, and 270 kg N ha−1. GHG fluxes were quantified using the static chamber technique and gas chromatography. In both experiments, the sources and doses of N did not significantly affect cumulative GHG emissions, while N fertilization significantly affected cumulative N2O and CO2 emissions compared to the control treatment. The N2O emission factor following fertilization with urea, ammonium nitrate, and ammonium sulfate was lower than the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change standard (0.35%, 0.24%, and 0.21%, respectively, with fractionation fertilization and 1.00%, 0.83%, and 1.03%, respectively, with single fertilization). These findings are important for integrating national inventories and improving GHG estimation in tropical regions.

Esse estudo tem como objetivo principal validar os estilos de aprendizagem dos estudantes e professores de uma Instituição de Ensino Superior. Para identificação dos estilos de aprendizagem foi utilizado um aplicativo baseado no questionário ILS de Felder -Soloman (1991) e no modelo teórico de Felder-Silverman (1988). Participaram da pesquisa 4.522 estudantes e 157 professores. Foi avaliado o grau de concordância dos estudantes e dos professores mediante as características dos estilos de aprendizagem apresentados em cada dimensão do modelo.

o presente trabalho visa realizar um recorte sobre a trajetória científica da educação especial e do atendimento educacional especializado de 2000 a 2010, evidenciando algumas de suas principais contribuições científicas. Para tal, concentra-se numa revisão de literatura realizada em livros, banco de dados, indexadores, biblioteca e bibliotecas virtuais. Os resultados caracterizaram-se por meio de grupamentos temáticos: a) Produção Científica em Educação Especial; b) Estudos Avaliativos sobre Educação Especial; c) Estudos sobre a Epistemologia da Pesquisa em Educação e Educação Especial; d) Pesquisas sobre atendimento Educacional Especializado; e) Política Nacional de Inclusão; História da Pessoa com Deficiência e da Educação Especial e f) Aspectos Históricopolíticos da Educação Especial. Percebe-se nesse período analisado, diversidade e dinâmica temáticas, evidenciando a busca pela superação da dimensão médica e de deficiência presentes historicamente na educação especial e no atendimento educacional especializado. Estudos sobre as produções científicas contribuem para a caracterização das pesquisas, e sobretudo constituem-se em aspectos essenciais para a formação da identidade histórico-científica das áreas de educação especial e atendimento educacional especializado e para a transformação social proveniente delas.

O estudo de primatas não humanos tem sido de grande interesse, devido às semelhanças com a espécie humana. Várias espécies animais, principalmente de primatas, têm sido usadas em pesquisas médicas e biológicas. O Sapajus apella é uma espécie de ocorrência comum e abundante na Região Sudeste. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar os músculos estabilizadores do ombro do macaco-prego e compará-los com os do ser humano, com a finalidade de fornecer subsídios para interpretações anátomo-funcionais que auxiliarão em futuros trabalhos de anatomia comparada. Foram utilizados quatro exemplares de S. apella provenientes do Laboratório de Anatomia Humana da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia. Os espécimes foram preparados por meio de dissecação dos músculos estabilizadores do ombro e preservados em solução de formaldeído. Observou-se que os músculos do ombro no S. apella apresentam enorme semelhança morfológica, em relação à origem e inserção, com aqueles que se encontram nos seres humanos, bem como em outros primatas.

Estudou-se a origem e distribuição do nervo isquiático em 31 fetos de suínos da linhagem Pen Ar Lan, sendo 22 machos e nove fêmeas, após ser fixados em solução aquosa de formaldeído a 10%. Nesses, animais, as vértebras lombares variaram de cinco a sete, com predominância de seis, o que contribuiu para variações na origem do referido nervo. O nervo isquiático originou-se em 80,64% dos antímeros, do ramo ventral do quinto nervo espinhal lombar (L5); em 96,77% de L6; em 6,45% de L7; em 100% de S1; e em 64,51% de S2. A composição do referido nervo ocorreu em 45,16% dos animais pela união de L5, L6, S1 e S2; em 32,25% de L5, L6 e S1; em 12,90% de L6, S1 e S2; em 6,45% de L6, L7 e S1; e em 3,22% de L5, S1 e S2. Houve simetria na origem do nervo isquiático em todos os espécimes estudados. Esse nervo emitiu ramos para os músculos glúteo superficial, semitendinoso, semimembranoso e bíceps femoral em todos os espécimes, e em menor frequência, para os músculos gêmeos, quadrado femoral, adutores, e glúteos médio, acessório e profundo. Em 74,19% da amostra, foi observado um ramo comunicante com nervo pudendo.

This work’s objective was to evaluate the effect of three percentages of addition of microsilica (0, 20 and 30%) on the physical and mechanical properties of wood-cement bonded particleboards of Eucalyptus urophylla composed by three wood:bark ratios (100:0, 95:5 and 90:10). Results showed that the most significant effect of the additive on the produced panels was in those containing bark, and that of 20% of additive was more efficient on the physical and mechanical properties.

O nitrogênio é o nutriente mais exigido pelo feijoeiro e seu metabolismo pode ser seriamente prejudicado pela deficiência de molibdênio. Conduziu-se este trabalho, com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito da aplicação de molibdênio via semente e nitrogênio em cobertura nas características agronômicas e produtividade do feijoeiro 'BRS Pontal' irrigado, cultivado em Neossolo Quartzarênico, no município de Cassilândia, MS. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados, no esquema fatorial 4x2, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram constituídos pela aplicação ou não de Mo (80 g ha-1) via semente e quatro doses de N (0, 30, 60 e 120 kg ha-1), em cobertura aos 16 dias, após a emergência, na forma de uréia. A aplicação de Mo via semente aumentou o índice relativo de clorofila, o número de vagens por planta, a massa e a produtividade de grãos no feijoeiro, principalmente com o uso de altas doses de N em cobertura. O índice relativo de clorofila, o número de vagens por planta, a massa e a produtividade de grãos do feijoeiro foi aumentada linearmente pela aplicação de até 120 kg ha-1 de N em cobertura. O fornecimento de Mo via tratamento de semente aumentou a eficiência de utilização do N pelo feijoeiro.Nitrogen is the most required nutrient by common bean and its metabolism depends on the molybdenum supply. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the molybdenum applied to seeds as well as the effect of sidedressing nitrogen on agronomic characteristics of irrigated common bean, cultivar BRS Pontal, grown on Typic Quartzipsamment, in Cassilância county, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. A randomized complete block design was used, in a 4x2 factorial array with four replications. The treatments were constituted of absence or presence of Mo (80g ha-1) applied to seeds, and four N doses (0, 30, 60, and 120 kg ha-1) applied 16 days after emergence, as urea. Molybdenum applied to seeds increased the relative chlorophyll index, number of pods per plant, mass of grains, and grain yield, mainly with high N-sidedressing rates. The N-sidedressing application up to the highest dose (120 kg ha-1) promoted a linear increase in the relative chlorophyll index, number of pods per plant, mass of grains and grain yield. Molybdenum applied to seeds increased the efficiency of N use by common bean.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da adição de dois tipos de aditivos minerais (microssílica e metacaulim) sobre as propriedades de chapas de cimento-madeira, aplicando-se diferentes teores aditivos (0, 20 e 30%). O aglomerante empregado na produção dos painéis foi o cimento Portland tipo ARI, juntamente com partículas de madeira de Eucalyptus urophylla. Os resultados indicaram que a adição dos aditivos minerais não causou melhorias significativas nas propriedades mecânicas avaliadas. Já, em relação às propriedades físicas, o efeito positivo da adição de 20% de microssílica pôde ser observado no ensaio de absorção em água após a imersão em 2 e 24 horas. O aditivo metacaulim não apresentou tendência clara, porém, de forma geral, a sua adição causou redução na qualidade das chapas.The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the two minerals additives (microsilica and meta-kaolin) on the properties of wood cement-bonded particleboard (WCBP) with different amounts (0%, 20% and 30%) of additives. Portland cement of high initial resistance was used in the production of panels as binder material. It was mixed with Eucalyptus urophylla wood particles to boards formation. The results indicated that the addition of mineral additives did not cause significant improvements in the evaluated mechanical properties. For physical properties, the positive effect of the addition of 20% microsilica can be observed on the absorption in water properties after 2 and 24 hours. The additive meta-kaolin did not present a clear trend, but, in general, the addition of this additive caused a reduction in the quality of boards.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da adição de microssílica em três porcentagens (0, 20 e 30%) sobre as propriedades físicas e mecânicas de painéis cimento-madeira de Eucalyptus urophylla compostos por três relações madeira:casca (100:0, 95:5 e 90:10). Os resultados mostraram que o efeito mais significativo do aditivo sobre os painéis produzidos ocorreu naqueles que continham casca, e que a adição de 20% do aditivo foi mais eficiente sobre as propriedades físicas e mecânicas.

A origem e distribuição do nervo axilar foram analisadas por meio da dissecação em 30 fetos de bovinos azebuados, 20 machos e 10 fêmeas, após a fixação em solução aquosa de formaldeído a 10%. O nervo axilar originou-se em 13,33% dos antímeros do ramo ventral do sexto nervo espinal cervical (C6), em 100% dos antímeros do ramo ventral do sétimo nervo espinal cervical (C7), em 91,67% do ramo ventral do oitavo nervo espinal cervical (C8) e em 5,00% do ramo ventral do primeiro nervo espinal torácico (T1). O nervo axilar cedeu ramos para os músculos redondo menor (100,00%), deltóide (100,00%), parte cleidobraquial do músculo braquiocefálico (100,00%), subescapular (78,33%) e redondo maior (11,66%). Em todos os animais o referido nervo emitiu o ramo cutâneo cranial do antebraço, o qual se distribuiu para a fáscia e pele da face cranial do braço e antebraço. Não houve diferenças significativas entre as frequências de ramos dos nervos axilares emitidos para os músculos dos antímeros direito e esquerdo, entretanto, constataram-se diferenças estatísticas entre a frequência de ramos cedidos para o músculo deltóide direito, em machos e fêmeas, sendo observada uma maior frequência para os fetos machos.

Este estudo foi desenvolvido com objetivo de determinar o de risco de doença cardiovascular em técnicos administrativos do Centro de Ciências Biológicas (CCB) e do Centro de Ciências Humanas (CCH) da Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV). Foram avaliados 157 técnicos administrativos, com idade média de 43,9 + 7,9 (21 e 58 anos), de ambos os gêneros, através do questionário da Michigan Heart Association (MHA), que tem como base oito fatores de risco, em que cada resposta representa um escore; somando os escores tem-se o risco relativo. A estatística empregada foi análise descritiva, identificando a taxa de prevalência de cada um dos fatores de risco. Foram excluídos 29 sujeitos, por não responderem corretamente ao questionário, restando 128 avaliados. O escore médio foi de 22,1  4,7 (10 e 36 pontos), classificado pela MHA como "risco médioâ€?. Nos homens a média de pontuação foi de 22,6  4,3 (16-35 pontos), para idade de 44,9  7,5 (22 a 56 anos). Nas mulheres essa média de pontuação foi de 20,5  5,5 (10-36 pontos), para idade de 41,7  8,6 (21-58 anos). Segundo ordem decrescente de prevalência, foram obtidos idade (71,9%), sedentarismo (70,3%), hereditariedade (56,3%), sobrepeso (53,1%) e hipercolesterolemia (30,5%). Os trabalhadores estudados foram caracterizados como de "risco médioâ€?, o que é considerado aceitável. Entretanto, encontraram-se casos de "alto riscoâ€?, tendo em vista a idade da população estudada, requerendo uma estratégia individualizada e tornando necessária a inserção de políticas preventivas, a fim de minimizar as possibilidades de ocorrência de eventos cardiovasculares.

O objetivo do trabalho foi gerar modelos de previsão de acidentes a partir de variáveis relacionadas à exposição e fatores de risco. O estudo foi desenvolvido com dados de vias arteriais urbanas da cidade de Porto Alegre, capital do estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Foi utilizada a técnica de Modelagem Linear Generalizada com distribuição de probabilidade de Poisson para relacionar a ocorrência de acidentes às variáveis explicativas. Os modelos de previsão de acidentes construídos explicaram mais de 60% da variabilidade dos dados. Isso comprova a relação entre os acidentes de trânsito e as variáveis estudadas.

Purpose: Parenteral nutrition (PN) has been shown to be a safe method of feeding in the intensive care unit with modern infection prevention practices, but similar analysis in the hematology-oncology setting is lacking., Methods: A retrospective analysis of 1,617 patients with hematologic malignancies admitted and discharged from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania during 3,629 encounters from 2017 to 2019 was undertaken to evaluate the association of PN administration with risk of central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI). Proportions of mucosal barrier injury (MBI)-CLABSI and non-MBI-CLABSI were also compared between groups., Results: Risk of CLABSI was associated with cancer type and duration of neutropenia but not with PN administration (odds ratio, 1.015; 95% CI, 0.986 to 1.045; P = .305) in a multivariable analysis. MBI-CLABSI comprised 73% of CLABSI in patients exposed to and 70% in patients not exposed to PN, and there was no significant difference between groups (χ 2 = 0.06, P = .800)., Conclusion: PN was not associated with increased risk of CLABSI in a sample of patients with hematologic malignancy with central venous catheters when adjusting for cancer type, duration of neutropenia, and catheter days. The high proportion of MBI-CLABSI highlights the effect of gut permeability within this population.

Purpose: Poor nutrition status in patients receiving high-dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) has been associated with inferior clinical outcomes. We aim to determine whether a malnutrition-driven nutritional support protocol can improve these outcomes., Methods: In this prospective cohort study, we assessed adults for malnutrition who were consecutively admitted for ASCT between October 2017 and March 2019 (n = 251), and provided enteral or parenteral nutrition (EN/PN) to patients who were malnourished early in the transplantation admission. We compared their clinical outcomes with those of a historical cohort admitted between May 2016 and October 2017 (n = 257) for whom nutrition assessment and initiation of EN/PN were not protocol-driven., Results: Patients receiving ASCT during the intervention period experienced decreased odds of prolonged hospital stay (p = 0.023), central line-associated bloodstream infection (p = 0.015), mucosal barrier injury (p = 0.037), and high weight loss (p = 0.002), in a multivariate analysis as compared with those receiving ASCT during the control period. Outcomes for ICU transfer, deconditioning on discharge, time to platelet engraftment, and unplanned 30-day hospital readmission did not differ significantly between groups., Conclusion: A malnutrition-driven nutritional support protocol may improve outcomes for ASCT patients.

We implemented a guideline for appropriate acid suppressant use in hematology-oncology patients. This intervention resulted in a sustained reduction in proton pump inhibitor (PPI) use without an increase in rates of gastrointestinal bleeding. Practice guidelines are effective in reducing PPI use, which is associated with risk of Clostridioides difficile infection.

Background: We evaluated the differential impact of levofloxacin administered for the prophylaxis of bloodstream infections compared with broad-spectrum beta-lactam (BSBL) antibiotics used for the treatment of neutropenic fever on the gut microbiome in patients with hematologic malignancy., Methods: Stool specimens were collected from patients admitted for chemotherapy or stem cell transplant in the setting of the evaluation of diarrhea from February 2017 until November 2017. Microbiome characteristics were compared among those exposed to levofloxacin prophylaxis vs those who received BSBL antibiotics., Results: Sixty patients were included, most with acute myeloid leukemia (42%) or multiple myeloma (37%). The gut microbiome of patients with BSBL exposure had significantly reduced Shannon's alpha diversity compared with those without (median [interquartile range {IQR}], 3.28 [1.73 to 3.71] vs 3.73 [3.14 to 4.31]; P = .01). However, those with levofloxacin exposure had increased alpha diversity compared with those without (median [IQR], 3.83 [3.32 to 4.36] vs 3.32 [2.35 to 4.02]; P = .03). Levofloxacin exposure was also associated with a trend toward lower risk of dominance of non-Bacteroidetes genera compared with those without levofloxacin exposure (3 [14%] vs 15 [38%]; P = .051)., Conclusions: The impact of antibiotics on the gut microbiome varies by class, and levofloxacin may disrupt the gut microbiome less than BSBLs in this patient population.
