NASA's Solar Probe Plus (SPP) mission will make the first in situ measurements of the solar corona and the birthplace of the solar wind. The FIELDS instrument suite on SPP will make direct measurements of electric and magnetic fields, the properties of in situ plasma waves, electron density and temperature profiles, and interplanetary radio emissions, amongst other things. Here, we describe the scientific objectives targeted by the SPP/FIELDS instrument, the instrument design itself, and the instrument concept of operations and planned data products.

Embryonic stem cells (ESC) have been explored as tools forstudying development, as well as, potential sources for a large numberof therapies in regenerative medicine. Traditionally, ESC are culturedon tissue culture plastic, however; it has been recently shown that thestiffness of the environmental substrate can direct the cells towardsvarious cell lineages. Our laboratory is specifically interested in examiningthe combined roles of biochemical and physical signaling incardiac and vascular cell fate and patterning these vascular cells intovascular branch-like tress.Using our novel mouse ESC that expresses aGFP reporter under the Tie-2 and an RFP reporter under alpha smoothmuscle actin and serum-free inductionmediums, we examined the roleof stiffness in the diverging fate of Flk-1 + vascular progenitor cells.The results indicate that both of the Flk-1 + vascular progenitor cellsand human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) preferentiallyadhere to 10 kPa compared with the 1 kPa, and 34 kPa compared withthe 10 kPa. We also observed both the GFP/Tie-2 + endothelial-likeand RFP + smooth muscle-like cells outgrowths from the Flk-1 +cells, with the GFP/Tie-2 + cells dominating the cultures, supportingthe role of stiffness in vascular fate. Next, we generated a vascularfractal-like pattern reverse mold and have stamped fibronectin vascularpattern onto non-tissue culture treated plastic. - Abstract
The objective of this study was to compare the effectiveness of a second tumor necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi) versus a non‐TNFi biologic following discontinuation of a TNFi for patients with polyarticular‐course juvenile idiopathic arthritis (pJIA). Using the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance Registry, patients with pJIA who started receiving a second biologic following a first TNFi were identified. Patients were required to have no active uveitis on the index date and a visit six months after the index date. Outcome measures included Clinical Juvenile Arthritis Disease Activity Score with a maximum of 10 active joints (cJADAS10), cJADAS10 inactive disease (ID; ≤2.5) and cJADAS10 minimal disease activity (MiDA; ≤5). Multiple imputation was used to account for missing data. Adjusted odds ratios (aORs) were calculated using propensity score quintiles to compare outcomes at six months following second biologic initiation. There were 216 patients included, 84% initially received etanercept, and most patients stopped receiving it because of its ineffectiveness (74%). A total of 183 (85%) started receiving a second TNFi, and 33 (15%) started receiving a non‐TNFi. Adalimumab was the most common second biologic received (71% overall, 84% of second TNFi), and tocilizumab was the most common non‐TNFi second biologic received (9% overall, 58% of non‐TNFi). There was no difference between receiving TNFi versus non‐TNFi in cJADAS10 ID (29% vs 25%; aOR 1.23, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.47–3.20) or at least MiDA (43% vs 39%; aOR 1.11, 95% CI 0.47–2.62) at six months. Most patients with pJIA started receiving TNFi rather than non‐TNFi as their second biologic, and there were no differences in disease activity at six months.

12. Does Systematic Adherence to Joint Commission and AHA Heart Failure Performance Measures Improve Patient Outcomes?

IntroductionIt is unclear whether inpatient heart failure (HF) performance measures reduce post-discharge adverse events. This exploratory study examined the association between systematic adherence to a set of performance measures and outcomes. Measures included all four Joint Commission (JC) HF core measures and AHA recommended beta blockade prescription on discharge.MethodsA retrospective review of a 3-hospital system was performed for all patients discharged with a primary diagnosis of HF in 2008-2009. Patients were included if they met eligibility criteria for one or more measures (n=1270). ‘Perfect care’ was defined as compliance with all eligible measures. Subsequent all-cause 30-day readmission and 1-year mortality was determined via electronic records and social security national database.Results‘Perfect care’ significantly reduced 30-day readmissions (19.2% vs. 24.9%, p=.045; OR=.72, 95% CI 0.52-0.99). ‘Perfect care’ did not influence 1-year mortality.ConclusionsAdherence to this set of composite performance measures positively influenced short-term patient outcomes. Benefit of adherence was found despite the longer LOS and higher severity of illness on index admission for patients receiving ‘perfect care’. The data support the clinical value of a systematic approach towards HF care on patient care quality. ‘Perfect care’ did not influence long term outcomes, which may be because inpatient processes do not extend to long term outpatient medical management.

We are interested in illumination conditions and the temperature distribution within the upper two meters of regolith near the lunar poles. Here, areas exist receiving almost constant illumination near areas in permanent shadow, which were identified as potential exploration sites for future missions. For our study a numerical simulation of the illumination and thermal environment for lunar near-polar regions is needed. Our study is based on high-resolution, twenty meters per pixel and 400 x 400 km large polar Digital Terrain Models (DTMs), which were derived from Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA) data. Illumination conditions were simulated by synthetically illuminating the LOLA DTMs using the horizon method considering the Sun as an extended source. We model polar illumination for the central 50 x 50 km subset and use it as an input at each time-step (2 h) to evaluate the heating of the lunar surface and subsequent conduction in the sub-surface. At surface level we balance the incoming insolation with the subsurface conduction and radiation into space, whereas in the sub-surface we consider conduction with an additional constant radiogenic heat source at the bottom of our two-meter layer. Density is modeled as depth-dependent, the specific heat parameter as temperature-dependent and the thermal conductivity as depth- and temperature-dependent. We implemented a fully implicit finite-volume method in space and backward Euler scheme in time to solve the one-dimensional heat equation at each pixel in our 50 x 50 km DTM. Due to the non-linear dependencies of the parameters mentioned above, Newton's method is employed as the non-linear solver together with the Gauss-Seidel method as the iterative linear solver in each Newton iteration. The software is written in OpenCL and runs in parallel on the GPU cores, which allows for fast computation of large areas and long time scales.

- Abstract
Attachment theory and research are drawn upon in many applied settings, including family courts, but misunderstandings are widespread and sometimes result in misapplications. The aim of this consensus statement is, therefore, to enhance understanding, counter misinformation, and steer family-court utilisation of attachment theory in a supportive, evidence-based direction, especially with regard to child protection and child custody decision-making. The article is divided into two parts. In the first, we address problems related to the use of attachment theory and research in family courts, and discuss reasons for these problems. To this end, we examine family court applications of attachment theory in the current context of the best-interest-of-the-child standard, discuss misunderstandings regarding attachment theory, and identify factors that have hindered accurate implementation. In the second part, we provide recommendations for the application of attachment theory and research. To this end, we set out three attachment principles: the child’s need for familiar, non-abusive caregivers; the value of continuity of good-enough care; and the benefits of networks of attachment relationships. We also discuss the suitability of assessments of attachment quality and caregiving behaviour to inform family court decision-making. We conclude that assessments of caregiver behaviour should take center stage. Although there is dissensus among us regarding the use of assessments of attachment quality to inform child custody and child-protection decisions, such assessments are currently most suitable for targeting and directing supportive interventions. Finally, we provide directions to guide future interdisciplinary research collaboration.

- Abstract
Attachment theory and research are drawn upon in many applied settings, including family courts, but misunderstandings are widespread and sometimes result in misapplications. The aim of this consensus statement is, therefore, to enhance understanding, counter misinformation, and steer family-court utilisation of attachment theory in a supportive, evidence-based direction, especially with regard to child protection and child custody decision-making. The article is divided into two parts. In the first, we address problems related to the use of attachment theory and research in family courts, and discuss reasons for these problems. To this end, we examine family court applications of attachment theory in the current context of the best-interest-of-the-child standard, discuss misunderstandings regarding attachment theory, and identify factors that have hindered accurate implementation. In the second part, we provide recommendations for the application of attachment theory and research. To this end, we set out three attachment principles: the child’s need for familiar, non-abusive caregivers; the value of continuity of good-enough care; and the benefits of networks of attachment relationships. We also discuss the suitability of assessments of attachment quality and caregiving behaviour to inform family court decision-making. We conclude that assessments of caregiver behaviour should take center stage. Although there is dissensus among us regarding the use of assessments of attachment quality to inform child custody and child-protection decisions, such assessments are currently most suitable for targeting and directing supportive interventions. Finally, we provide directions to guide future interdisciplinary research collaboration.

- Abstract
After introducing IL-1/IL-6 inhibitors, some patients with Still and Still-like disease developed unusual, often fatal, pulmonary disease. This complication was associated with scoring as DReSS (drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms) implicating these inhibitors, although DReSS can be difficult to recognize in the setting of systemic inflammatory disease.

- Abstract
Organism abundance is a critical parameter in ecology, but its estimation is often challenging. Approaches utilizing eDNA to indirectly estimate abundance have recently generated substantial interest. However, preliminary correlations observed between eDNA concentration and abundance in nature are typically moderate in strength with significant unexplained variation. Here we apply a novel approach to integrate allometric scaling coefficients into models of eDNA concentration and organism abundance. We hypothesize that eDNA particle production scales non-linearly with mass, with scaling coefficients < 1. Wild populations often exhibit substantial variation in individual body size distributions; we therefore predict that the distribution of mass across individuals within a population will influence population-level eDNA production rates. To test our hypothesis, we collected standardized body size distribution and mark-recapture abundance data using whole-lake experiments involving nine populations of brook trout. We correlated eDNA concentration with three metrics of abundance: density (individuals/ha), biomass (kg/ha), and allometrically scaled mass (ASM) (∑(individual mass 0.73 )/ha). Density and biomass were both significantly positively correlated with eDNA concentration (adj. R 2 = 0.59 and 0.63, respectively), but ASM exhibited improved model fit (adj. R 2 = 0.78). We also demonstrate how estimates of ASM derived from eDNA samples in ‘unknown’ systems can be converted to biomass or density estimates with additional size structure data. Future experiments should empirically validate allometric scaling coefficients for eDNA production, particularly where substantial intraspecific size distribution variation exists. Incorporating allometric scaling may improve predictive models to the extent that eDNA concentration may become a reliable indicator of abundance in nature.

- Abstract
The development of a residual stress engineering technology such as laser shock peening (LSP) requires evaluation of the process by quantification of the desired effect. Applications of LSP for turbine blade integrity enhancement due to expected deeper compressive residual stresses with lower surface roughness compared to conventional shot peening (SP), have resulted in the analysis of LSP on 12CrNiMoV steel samples. The investigation compares different residual stress measurement techniques such as energy dispersive synchrotron X-ray diffraction (SXRD), laboratory X-ray diffraction (XRD) with sequential electro-polishing, neutron diffraction (ND), incremental-hole drilling (IHD), and the contour method (CM). This study highlights the benefits and opportunities of using complimentary residual stress measurement techniques in order to gain insight into the residual stresses within a material.

- Abstract
Steam turbines used in the power generation industry are subject to fatigue during normal operation which includes transient events such as start-ups and steady state operation. Surface treatment methods, such as shot peening (SP) and roller burnishing, to induce surface compressive residual stresses in critical areas and improve fatigue life are commonly used, but the depth of the induced residual stresses is limited by the process. Laser shock peening (LSP) is a more recent development that has been applied in the aerospace industry on titanium blades, but is not yet commonly used in the power generation industry. The current research is focused on optimizing LSP parameters for the application of the process on 12Cr steels used for turbine blades. Evaluation of the induced residual stress was done with both conventional laboratory X-ray diffraction (XRD) and synchrotron X-ray diffraction (SXRD) techniques.
