Parts I and II of this paper were concerned with a model based on the CULOG form of the learning curve, its comparison with existing functions, and its applications in the training of employees. In the present part it is proposed to discuss briefly the applications of the model in forecasting future production levels of new products (or of products in new plants) and in production control generally. A group of alcoholics treated by partially reinforced electrical escape conditioning were found to have a significantly better outcome on follow-up than a selected control group, who showed a parallel level of motivation, and were treated by conventional methods. No sex differences in outcome were found for either group. In the experimental group, better prognosis was associated with higher social class and older age, and poorer prognosis with single marital status. There were no variations in outcome for age in the control group. In the age range 20-40 aversion therapy showed no better results than conventional therapies, but with subjects above this age range it was very significantly superior. In June 1986, an unusual number of cases of darkfield negative, nonvesicular, painful genital ulcers were noted in men presenting to the Sexually Transmitted Diseases Clinic of the Dallas County Health Department. Serologic findings were routinely nonreactive in these patients. This clinical presentation was consistent with a diagnosis of chancroid, and empiric therapy with erythromycin proved quite efficacious. A retrospective review of charts revealed several similar presentations in May. After 3 weeks of experimentation with culture media, positive cultures for Haemophilus ducreyi were obtained and confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control, definitively establishing the presence of chancroid in Dallas. By year's end, 383 cases of chancroid had been diagnosed.

A client with a history of daily compulsive shoplifting of 14 years' duration was treated by covert sensitization. By her preference, the aversive imagery used was that of nausea and vomiting, as described by Cautela (1967), rather than that of being apprehended by the authorities used by later workers. On 19-month follow-up she was free of stealing behaviour apart from a single lapse, and there were corresponding improvements in her self-esteem and socialization.
