We present a nonperturbative study of the form factor associated with the projection of the full four-gluon vertex on its classical tensor, for a set of kinematics with one vanishing and three arbitrary external momenta. The treatment is based on the Schwinger-Dyson equation governing this vertex, and a large-volume lattice simulation, involving ten thousand gauge field configurations. The key hypothesis employed in both approaches is the ``planar degeneracy'', which classifies diverse configurations by means of a single variable, thus enabling their meaningful ``averaging''. The results of both approaches show notable agreement, revealing a considerable suppression of the averaged form factor in the infrared. The deviations from the exact planar degeneracy are discussed in detail, and a supplementary variable is used to achieve a more accurate description. Several continuum and lattice investigations of the QCD three-gluon vertex have recently exposed its key properties, some intimately connected with the low-momentum behavior of the two-point gluon Green's function and specially relevant for the emergence of a mass scale in this latter, via the Schwinger mechanism. In the present study, we report on a lattice determination of the Landau-gauge, transversely projected three-gluon vertex, particularly scrutinizing an outstanding one of these properties, termed planar degeneracy, exploring its implications and capitalizing on it to gain further insight on the low-momentum running of both the three-gluon vertex and its associated strong coupling., Comment: 17 pages, 10 figures

Only recently, complex models that include the global dynamics from dwarf satellite galaxies, dark matter halo structure, gas infalls, and stellar disk in a cosmological context became available to study the dynamics of disk galaxies such as the Milky Way (MW). We use a MW model from a high-resolution hydrodynamical cosmological simulation named GARROTXA to establish the relationship between the vertical disturbances seen in its galactic disk and multiple perturbations, from the dark matter halo, satellites and gas. We calculate the bending modes in the galactic disk in the last 6 Gyr of evolution. To quantify the impact of dark matter and gas we compute the vertical acceleration exerted by these components onto the disk and compare them with the bending behavior with Fourier analysis. We find complex bending patterns at different radii and times, such as an inner retrograde mode with high frequency, as well as an outer slower retrograde mode excited at different times. The amplitudes of these bending modes are highest during the early stages of the thin disk formation and reach up to 8.5 km s-1 in the late disk evolution. We find that the infall of satellite galaxies leads to a tilt of the disk, and produces anisotropic gas accretion with subsequent star formation events, and supernovae, creating significant vertical accelerations onto the disk plane. The misalignment between the disk and the inner stellar/dark matter triaxial structure, formed during the ancient assembly of the galaxy, creates a strong vertical acceleration on the stars. We conclude that several agents trigger the bending of the stellar disk and its phase spirals in this simulation, including satellite galaxies, dark sub-halos, misaligned gaseous structures, and the inner dark matter profile, which coexist and influence each other, making it challenging to establish direct causality.

Continuum and lattice analyses have revealed the existence of a mass-scale in the gluon two-point Schwinger function. It has long been conjectured that this expresses the action of a Schwinger mechanism for gauge boson mass generation in quantum chromodynamics (QCD). For such to be true, it is necessary and sufficient that a dynamically-generated, massless, colour-carrying, scalar gluon+gluon correlation emerge as a feature of the dressed three-gluon vertex. Working with results on elementary Schwinger functions obtained via the numerical simulation of lattice-regularised QCD, we establish with an extremely high level of confidence that just such a feature appears; hence, confirm the conjectured origin of the gluon mass scale., Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures

We report on a novel and extensive lattice QCD analysis for the three-gluon vertex from quenched lattice-QCD simulations. Using standard Wilson action, we have computed the three-gluon vertex beyond the usual kinematic restriction to the symmetric $(q^2 = r^2 = p^2)$ and soft-gluon $(p = 0)$ cases where it depends on a single momentum scale. The so-dubbed bisectoral case $(r^2 = q^2 \ne p^2)$, where the transversely projected vertex can be cast in terms of three independent tensors, have been the object of a recent exhaustive scrutiny, also shown in this communication. Herein, beyond this special case, results for kinematic configurations with three different squared momenta are also presented. We present novel results for the three-gluon vertex, obtained from an extensive quenched lattice simulation in the Landau gauge. The simulation evaluates the transversely projected vertex, spanned on a special tensorial basis, whose form factors are naturally parametrized in terms of individually Bose-symmetric variables. Quite interestingly, when evaluated in these kinematics, the corresponding form factors depend almost exclusively on a single kinematic variable, formed by the sum of the squares of the three incoming four-momenta, $q$, $r$, and $p$. Thus, all configurations lying on a given plane in the coordinate system $(q^2, r^2, p^2)$ share, to a high degree of accuracy, the same form factors, a property that we denominate \emph{planar degeneracy}. We have confirmed the validity of this property through an exhaustive study of the set of configurations satisfying the condition $q^2 = r^2$, within the range $[0, 5\, \rm GeV]$. Moreover, a preliminary exploration reveals that the planar degeneracy persist in the case of more arbitrary configurations. This drastic simplification allows for a remarkably compact description of the main bulk of the data, which is particularly suitable for future numerical applications. A semi-perturbative analysis reproduces the lattice findings rather accurately, once the inclusion of a gluon mass has cured all spurious divergences., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures

We consider the five-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, which can be obtained by means of an apropriate choice of coeficients in the five-dimensional Lanczos-Lovelock gravity theory. The Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet field equations for the Friedmann-Lema\^itre-Robertson-Walker metric are found as well as some of their solutions. A four-dimensional gravity action is obtained from the Gauss-Bonnet gravity using the Randall-Sundrum compactification procedure and then it is studied the implications of the compactification procedure in the cosmological solutions. The same procedure is used to obtain gravity in four dimensions from the five-dimensional AdS-Chern-Simons gravity to then study some cosmological solutions. The same procedure is used to obtain gravity in 4D from the five-dimensional AdS-Chern-Simons gravity to then study some cosmological solutions. Tidal features in the outskirts of galaxies yield unique information about their past interactions and are a key prediction of the hierarchical structure formation paradigm. The Vera C. Rubin Observatory is poised to deliver deep observations for potentially of millions of objects with visible tidal features, but the inference of galaxy interaction histories from such features is not straightforward. Utilising automated techniques and human visual classification in conjunction with realistic mock images produced using the NEWHORIZON cosmological simulation, we investigate the nature, frequency and visibility of tidal features and debris across a range of environments and stellar masses. In our simulated sample, around 80 per cent of the flux in the tidal features around Milky Way or greater mass galaxies is detected at the 10-year depth of the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (30-31 mag / sq. arcsec), falling to 60 per cent assuming a shallower final depth of 29.5 mag / sq. arcsec. The fraction of total flux found in tidal features increases towards higher masses, rising to 10 per cent for the most massive objects in our sample (M*~10^{11.5} Msun). When observed at sufficient depth, such objects frequently exhibit many distinct tidal features with complex shapes. The interpretation and characterisation of such features varies significantly with image depth and object orientation, introducing significant biases in their classification. Assuming the data reduction pipeline is properly optimised, we expect the Rubin Observatory to be capable of recovering much of the flux found in the outskirts of Milky Way mass galaxies, even at intermediate redshifts (z<0.2)., Comment: 29 pages, 25 figures; accepted for publication in MNRAS following minor corrections

We present VLT/MUSE spectroscopy, along with archival Gemini/GMOS spectroscopy, Magellan/Megacam imaging, and Chandra X-ray emission for SPT-CL J0305-6225, a z=0.58 major merging galaxy cluster with a large BCG-SZ centroid separation and a highly disturbed X-ray morphology. The galaxy density distribution shows two main overdensities with separations of 0.144 and 0.017 arcmin to their respective BCGs. We characterize the central regions of the two colliding structures, namely 0307-6225N and 0307-6225S, finding velocity derived masses of $M_{200,N}=$ 2.44 $\pm$ 1.41 $\times10^{14}$ M$_\odot$ and $M_{200,S}=$ 3.16 $\pm$ 1.88 $\times10^{14}$ M$_\odot$, with a line-of-sight velocity difference of $|\Delta v| = 342$ km s$^{-1}$. The total dynamically derived mass is consistent with the SZ derived mass of 7.63 h$_{70}^{-1}$ $\pm$ 1.36 $\times10^{14}$ M$_\odot$. We model the merger using the Monte Carlo Merger Analysis Code, estimating a merging angle of 36$^{+14}_{-12}$ degrees with respect to the plane of the sky. Comparing with simulations of a merging system with a mass ratio of 1:3, we find that the best scenario is that of an ongoing merger that began 0.96$^{+0.31}_{-0.18}$ Gyr ago. We also characterize the galaxy population using H$\delta$ and [OII] $\lambda 3727$ \AA \ lines. We find that most of the emission-line galaxies belong to 0307-6225S, close to the X-ray peak position, with a third of them corresponding to red-cluster sequence galaxies, and the rest to blue galaxies with velocities consistent with recent periods of accretion. Moreover, we suggest that 0307-6225S suffered a previous merger, evidenced through the two equally bright BCGs at the center with a velocity difference of $\sim$674 km s$^{-1}$., Comment: 23 pages, 8 tables, 20 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS; Updated to match published version

We evaluate a 5-dimensional Randall Sundrum type metric in the Lagrangian of the Einstein-Chern-Simons gravity, and then we derive an action and its corresponding field equations, for a 4-dimensional brane embedded in the 5-dimensional space-time of the theory, which in the limit l--0 leads to the 4-dimensional general relativity with cosmological constant. An interpretation of the h*a matter field present in the Einstein-Chern-Simons gravity action is given. As an application, we find some Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker cosmological solutions that exhibit accelerated behavior., Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2012.10578

From the field equations corresponding to a 4-dimensional brane embedded in the 5-dimensional spacetime of the Einstein-Chern-Simons theory for gravity, we find cosmological solutions that describe an accelerated expansion for a flat universe. Apart from a quintessence-type evolution scheme, we obtain a transient phantom evolution, which is not ruled out by the current observational data. Additionally, a bouncing solution is shown. The introduction of a kinetic term in the action shows a de Sitter behavior although the energy density is not constant. A quintessence behavior is also found. We conjecture on a possible geometric origin of dark energy coming from this action.

We explore the chemodynamical properties of a sample of barred galaxies in the Auriga magneto-hydrodynamical cosmological zoom-in simulations, which form boxy/peanut (b/p) bulges, and compare these to the Milky Way (MW). We show that the Auriga galaxies which best reproduce the chemodynamical properties of stellar populations in the MW bulge have quiescent merger histories since redshift $z\sim3.5$: their last major merger occurs at $t_{\rm lookback}>12\,\rm Gyrs$, while subsequent mergers have a stellar mass ratio of $\leq$1:20, suggesting an upper limit of a few percent for the mass ratio of the recently proposed Gaia Sausage/Enceladus merger. These Auriga MW-analogues have a negligible fraction of ex-situ stars in the b/p region ($<1\%$), with flattened, thick disc-like metal-poor stellar populations. The average fraction of ex-situ stars in the central regions of all Auriga galaxies with b/p's is 3% -- significantly lower than in those which do not host a b/p or a bar. While the central regions of these barred galaxies contain the oldest populations, they also have stars younger than 5Gyrs (>30%) and exhibit X-shaped age and abundance distributions. Examining the discs in our sample, we find that in some cases a star-forming ring forms around the bar, which alters the metallicity of the inner regions of the galaxy. Further out in the disc, bar-induced resonances lead to metal-rich ridges in the $V_{\phi}-r$ plane -- the longest of which is due to the Outer Lindblad Resonance. In this work, we present a quasiparticle strategy to study the Hamiltonian description of the stationary states for two quantum dots--cavity system. We consider three different effective schemes of quasiparticles that give an in-depth insight into the physics involved in the Hamiltonian eigenstates for parameters that optimize or minimize the energy gap condition. We analyze features of quantum measures like fractional composition, linear entropy, and concurrence to observe which one description gives the complete physical information. Our findings show that a polaritonic---light-matter quasiparticle---approach catch better the physics contained in the whole regimes considered., Comment: 7 pages

The phenomena of odd-parity magnetoresistance and the planar Hall effect are deeply entwined with ferromagnetism. The intrinsic magnetization of the ordered state permits these unusual and rarely observed manifestations of Onsager's theorem when time reversal symmetry is broken at zero applied field. Here we study two classes of ferromagnetic materials, rare-earth magnets with high intrinsic coercivity and antiferromagnetic pyrochlores with strongly-pinned ferromagnetic layers at domain walls, which both exhibit odd-parity magnetoresistive behavior. The peculiar angular variation of the response with respect to the relative alignments of the magnetization, magnetic field, and current reveal the two underlying microscopic mechanisms: spin-polarization-dependent scattering of a Zeeman-shifted Fermi surface and magnetoresistance driven by the anomalous velocity physics usually associated with the anomalous Hall effect.

We present the physical characterization of FSR 1758, a new large, massive object very recently discovered in the Galactic Bulge. The combination of optical data from the 2nd Gaia Data Release (GDR2) and the DECam Plane Survey (DECaPS), and near-IR data from the VISTA Variables in the V\'{\i}a L\'actea Extended Survey (VVVX) led to a clean sample of likely members. Based on this integrated dataset, position, distance, reddening, size, metallicity, absolute magnitude, and proper motion of this object are measured. We estimate the following parameters: $\alpha=17:31:12$, $\delta=-39:48:30$ (J2000), $D=11.5 \pm 1.0$ kpc, $E(J-Ks)=0.20 \pm 0.03$ mag, $R_c=10$ pc, $R_t=150$ pc, $[Fe/H]=-1.5 \pm 0.3$ dex, $M_i < -8.6 \pm 1.0$, $\mu_{\alpha} = -2.85$ mas yr$^{-1}$, and $\mu_{\delta} = 2.55$ mas yr$^{-1}$. The nature of this object is discussed. If FRS 1758 is a genuine globular cluster, it is one of the largest in the Milky Way, with a size comparable or even larger than that of $\omega$ Cen, being also an extreme outlier in the size vs. Galactocentric distance diagram. The presence of a concentration of long-period RR Lyrae variable stars and blue horizontal branch stars suggests that it is a typical metal-poor globular cluster of Oosterhoff type II. Further exploration of a larger surrounding field reveals common proper motion stars, suggesting either tidal debris or that FRS\,1758 is actually the central part of a larger extended structure such as a new dwarf galaxy, tentatively named as Scorpius. In either case, this object is remarkable, and its discovery graphically illustrates the possibility to find other large objects hidden in the Galactic Bulge using future surveys., Comment: Accepted Astrophysical Journal Letters

$K^{+}\rightarrow\pi^{+}\nu\overline{\nu}$ is one of the theoretically cleanest meson decay where to look for indirect effects of new physics complementary to LHC searches. The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is designed to measure the branching ratio of this decay with 10\% precision. NA62 took data in pilot runs in 2014 and 2015 reaching the final designed beam intensity. Understanding the nature of spiral structure in disk galaxies is one of the main, and still unsolved questions in galactic astronomy. However, theoretical works are proposing new testable predictions whose detection is becoming feasible with recent development in instrumentation. In particular, streaming motions along spiral arms are expected to induce azimuthal variations in the chemical composition of a galaxy at a given galactic radius. In this letter we analyse the gas content in NGC 6754 with VLT/MUSE data to characterise its 2D chemical composition and H$\alpha$ line-of-sight velocity distribution. We find that the trailing (leading) edge of the NGC 6754 spiral arms show signatures of tangentially-slower, radially-outward (tangentially-faster, radially-inward) streaming motions of metal-rich (poor) gas over a large range of radii. These results show direct evidence of gas radial migration for the first time. We compare our results with the gas behaviour in a $N$-body disk simulation showing spiral morphological features rotating with a similar speed as the gas at every radius, in good agreement with the observed trend. A novel method to estimate unsteady aerodynamic force coefficients from pointwise velocity measurements is presented. The methodology is based on a resolvent-based reduced-order model which requires the mean flow to obtain physical flow structures and pointwise measurement to calibrate their amplitudes. A computationally-affordable time-stepping methodology to obtain resolvent modes in non-trivial flow domains is introduced and compared to previous existing matrix-free and matrix-forming strategies. The technique is applied to the unsteady flow around an inclined square cylinder at low Reynolds number. The potential of the methodology is demonstrated through good agreement between the fluctuating pressure distribution on the cylinder and the temporal evolution of the unsteady lift and drag coefficients predicted by the model and those computed by direct numerical simulation., Comment: In review

A novel reduced-order model for nonlinear flows is presented. The model arises from a resolvent decomposition in which the nonlinear advection terms of the Navier-Stokes equation are considered as the input to a linear system in Fourier space. Results show that Taylor-G\"ortler-like vortices can be represented from a low-order resolvent decomposition of a nonlinear lid-driven cavity flow. The present approach provides an approximation of the fluctuating velocity given the time-mean and the time history of a single velocity probe.

A study of the the main features of low- and high amplitude steady streamwise wall transpiration applied to pipe flow is presented. The effect of the two transpiration parameters, amplitude and wavenumber, on the flow have been investigated by means of direct numerical simulation at a moderate turbulent Reynolds number. The behaviour of the three identified mechanisms that act in the flow: modification of Reynolds shear stress, steady streaming and generation of non-zero mean streamwise gradients, have been linked to the transpiration parameters. The observed trends have permitted the identification of wall transpiration configurations able to reduce or increase the overall flow rate in -36.1% and 19.3% respectively. A resolvent analysis has been carried out to obtain a description of the reorganization of the flow structures induced by the transpiration.
