Industrial symbiosis (IS) is a strategy that focuses on the exchange of resources between colocated industries. Despite the benefits of IS, companies often face challenges in implementing it, primarily due to technical, economic, and information barriers. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate the feasibility of implementing IS among Brazilian companies. To achieve this, a survey was conducted with 201 colocated companies using a previously developed instrument to assess their levels of symbiotic readiness. The findings resulted in the creation of a typology of symbiotic readiness levels, accompanied by practical recommendations for each level. In general, the surveyed companies are making progress toward implementing IS, as evidenced by their attempts to exchange waste and by‐products with other colocated industries. However, overcoming barriers related to information sharing, trust‐building, access conditions, infrastructure, and partnership formation remains challenging. This study provides valuable evidence from an emerging country regarding the readiness levels of companies to implement IS, offering insights and recommendations for managers and public authorities to promote IS. It is important to note that as companies reach mature stages of IS implementation, they can collaborate to transform the conditions of the industrial parks, ultimately fostering future industrial ecosystems. This article aims to identify patterns in the organization of innovation network by mapping the network inventors of a cosmetics company and identifying ways to promote innovation capacity through interconnectivity. The research was conducted through case study methods, and, for this, inventors mappings were made, based on the records of patents previously surveyed, taking into consideration the linkage (internal or external) of each inventor with the company and also the amount of patent citations. It was identified higher hierarchy in networks with the presence of collaborators externals to the company as well as a possible higher technological content, since the amount of citations was higher compared to other networks. It is verified, finally, that inventors mappings (although a patent is not the only measuring factor of innovation) can identify key features to help a better management of innovation. The Brazilian automotive industry has undergone profound changes during the 90’s decade, as a consequence of the market opening up through the liberation of automobile imports. The exposure of the Brazilian domestic market to competition with imported products of high quality and lower prices indicated the need for significant changes in those auto industries operating in this country, with the intention of making them competitive. To achieve these objectives management and production concepts were adopted, such as: the just-in-time philosophy; lean manufacturing; outsourcing; reengineering and increasing the rate of automation in both production and management systems. These changes helped to increase productivity and, in turn, reduced the level of employment in the sector, especially in activities where the required qualification levels were low. Despite this modernization, the Brazilian companies have committed themselves to meet the specific needs of the Brazilian market. The objective of this paper is to analyze and present manufacturing strategies from six manufacturers of automotive vehicles: Toyota in Japan, Fiat in Italy, Volkswagen in Brazil and Germany and General Motors in the U.S. and Brazil. The predominant method of research was from reviewing relevant literature, whereas the empirical data was analyzed qualitatively. The article seeks to identify the manufacturing strategies adopted by manufacturers located in the above countries, electing one automotive manufacturer to represent each country. The research demonstrated that the processes for production of automobiles in four plants located in, the U.S. (GM); Italy (Fiat); Japan (Toyota) and Germany (VW) are similar to those adopted in Brazilian industrial plants of the same companies (GM and VW), with differences of operations only in the business strategies adopted by each of them. In last years the world competition significantly increased, putting more pressure by flexibility in production and management. That caused to change of the vertical bureaucratic structures for the horizontal company, modifying the previous paradigm, of that, the competition gave between business units. The traditional bureaucratic model of organization has shown exhausted, in this way the networks formation has enabled more flexible new organizational models. The operations strategy, historically focused in business units, became an emergent field for a new analysis of the practices and existing models. As value creation and delivering are indispensable for the networks survival, it is supposed that the costumer perceived value should be connected to the business network project. This thesis propose to categorize the concurrent networks in which firms are include and present a methodological approach of investigation between the business network project and the customer perceived value. With this purpose is conducted an exploratory and qualitative study of the simultaneous nets inside the operations strategy field. The conclusions suggest that the researched business network project reflects the customer value perception.

As limitações da pesquisa destacam a oportunidade e necessidade de pesquisas futuras, abrangendo além de um maior número de especialistas, também consumidores The main issues that dominate the packaging technology area are related to the use of materials and recycling possibilities, however, their potential for waste reduction / food losses is still little explored. In this context, this research aimd to identify and analyze the main barriers to innovations in packaging systems that help to reduce waste and / or loss of fresh beef. The research method used was the experts interview working in research and industry, and they were selected for working directly with packaging, and where possible, with beef. The main barriers identified in this study were: high cost of implementation, lack of knowledge, sharing of information in the chain and with consumers, cold chain integration, strong culture of Brazilian consumers and low availability of qualified suppliers. It was identified that the Brazilian consumer is not demanding regarding the packaging of beef products, and the buying decision is still made based on the comparison of appearance of meat and price. Thus, packaging suppliers and the food industry only search for technologies in packaging based on cost, omitting the innovations. This research helps to identify some barriers to the adoption of innovations in beef products packaging, and propose suggestions to mitigate them. Thus, this study should help both researchers and companies involved in the production chain of beef to understand and overcome the barriers highlighted using packaging as a strategic link in the waste reduction. The research limitations highlight the opportunity and need for further research, in addition to covering a larger number of expert and also consumers

This study aimed to investigate how innovation emerges as a result of interactions among firms in a collaborative network of micro, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the furniture sector of metropolitan area in São Paulo, the Movelaria Paulista. Innovation in collaborative networks of SMEs in emerging economies has been influenced by various entities, especially the government, and the theme of innovation is usually studied at the firm level, focusing on innovation processes and product development. Innovation as much as network theory has a strategic bias in order to increase performance, competitiveness, share information and to reduce uncertainty and market´s ambiguity. Moreover, SMEs are recognized as organizations that have limited resources (human and financial) and low inclination to strategic planning. However, the Movelaria Paulista network has innovated consistently since its formation in 2004. To explain this complex phenomenon – innovation in network of small businesses, in an emerging country with weak institutions, which belongs to a traditional industry with low use of technology – and not fully covered by the theoretical field, this research was conducted using the Grounded Theory, in order to come up with a substantive theory to explain this phenomena by stand point of involved ones. The Movelaria Paulista is the object of this research and is composed of 52 companies and employs around 1,700 people. During the data collection were performed 45 interviews, 36 factories visited and it was attended six internal meetings as an observer and in two open forums to the public. In addition to almost 3,700 minutes of interviews, it was gathered several secondary data such as magazines, articles and reports. The results enabled to understand the network dynamics of collaboration that results in innovation, and the most revealing contribution is the transformation impact that Movelaria produces in its social context. The projects conducted in Movelaria Paulista foster collaboration within the group and inspire its members to promote internal changes in the organization, which in turn affect its employees and the community around. This pro collective guidance explains the support provided to the improvement of each member and the whole furniture sector as well. This behavior increases the members’ earnings perception in being part of the network, which include and integrate its members, attract new external actors, who foster new opportunities for innovation by increasing the creative space and building bridges to shorten the access to new knowledge. The results have also practical implications for Movelaria to face their challenges and for the institutions to rethink their role in order to increase their aggregated value to this network and to the others.
