An intensive study on structural, electronic mechanical and optical properties of bulk Niobium Dichalcogenides NbX2 (X=S, Se) was carried out using the first principle. The structural parameters such as Equilibrium Lattice Parameters, Volume, Bulk Modulus, and FirstDerivative Modulus were calculated to determine if the materials are energetically stable. Elastic constants were further obtained from which mechanical properties i.e. bulk, Young's and shear moduli and consequently Poisson's ratio were obtained. Based on the well-known Born stability conditions Bulk-NbS2 is most likely mechanically anisotropic ductile material. While Bulk-NbSe2 for the predicted B/G ratio in all three methods is less than a critical value of 1.75, hence this shows that NbSe2 is a brittle material exploring its electronic and optical properties whose motivation was to find out the most stable phase and ascertain if these materials could be used in various fields that suit their mechanical and optical properties. Furthermore, from the calculated optical spectra, plasma frequencies were analyzed which indicated the possibility of applying the material in plasmonic-related fields.

Early intervention to support mental health and well-being of school-aged children may be of significant benefit in preventing escalation of mental health problems in later life. While there are limitations to current understanding of the best ways for schools to support mental well-being, a whole school approach (WSA), involving all those who are part of the school system in creating and sustaining a supportive environment where health is prioritized, may be effective. This research explored stakeholder views of this approach, as part of a contract commissioned by the Welsh Government to conduct an evaluability assessment of a WSA. Semistructured focus groups and interviews were completed with stakeholders from the health and education sectors, as well as parents, to explore how a WSA may operate in a Welsh context and barriers and facilitators to potential implementation and outcomes. Findings suggest that existing pressures on schools may impact implementation of a WSA, with school staff already time poor and many staff experiencing their own mental well-being challenges. Implementation may be supported by clear guidance at local and national levels, funding for staff time and training and stakeholder involvement at all stages. Long-term monitoring and evaluation are also needed to understand system changes.

The emergence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), particularly methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), poses a significant global health threat as these bacteria increasingly become resistant to the most available therapeutic options. Thus, developing an efficient approach to rapidly screen MRSA directly from clinical specimens has become vital. In this study, we establish a closed-tube loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) method incorporating hydroxy-naphthol blue (HNB) colorimetric dye assay to directly detect MRSA from clinical samples based on the presence of mecA and spa genes. In total, 125 preidentified S. aureus isolates and 93 clinical samples containing S. aureus were sourced from the microbiology laboratory at Hamad General Hospital (HGH). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) were computed based on conventional PCR. The assay demonstrated 100% specificity, 91.23% sensitivity, 0.90 Cohen Kappa (CK), 100% PPV, and 87.8% NPV for the clinical samples, while clinical isolates exhibited 100% specificity, 97% sensitivity, 0.926 CK, 100% PPV, and 88.89% NPV. Compared to cefoxitin disk diffusion, LAMP provided 100% specificity and sensitivity, 1.00 CK, and 100% for PPV and NPV. The study revealed that the closed-tube LAMP incorporating (HNB) dye is a rapid technique with a turnaround time of less than 1 h and high specificity and sensitivity.

Fibonacci sequence has been considered as a mono-atomic structural model of one-dimensional quasilattice. The phonon dispersion curves and the vibrational density of states were computed for this model using an-harmonic lattice dynamic calculations. The speed of sound in the 1-D quasicrystal model, found to be 2,546 ????????−1compares poorly with 6,420 ????????−1forAl and provides insight on its poor conductivity. Debye approximation method is used to evaluate the density of state and to subsequently compute the Debye’s temperature of 241.4 K,Debye frequency of 3.16 x 1013 Hz, lattice heat capacity at constant volumeand Thermal Conductivity Kcat low temperatures 0f 1.330 x 103, 1.098 x103, 5.490x103 Jmol-1K-1 and 0.0850, 0.0710, 0.0085 Wm-1K-1 respectively at TD/10K, 20K and 10K.The value of the Debye frequency is within the range of those of glassy nonconducting materials while the Debye temperature is closer to those of semiconductors or insulators. The numerically calculated values of the heat capacity and conductivity provide further confirmatory insight on the poor conductivity of quasicrystals.

Abstract The aim of the current study is to review the molecular characteristics of Neisseria meningitidis (N. meningitidis) in Hamad Medical Corporation, which is the provider of secondary and tertiary care in the state of Qatar. A total of 39 isolates of N. meningitidis from the period of 2013 to 2018 were revived and identified by Vitek, and susceptibility on the basis of the E test was retrieved from the patient’s files. The revived isolates were subjected to multilocus sequence typing. The most common serogroup (19) of N. meningitidis was W135, of which 12 were isolated from blood and CSF. ST-11 was the most predominant ST clonal complex causing N. meningitidis cases (61.53%). Clonal complex ST-41/44 was the second most observed complex (3, 2 of which were related to serogroup B). The most frequent sequence type was 9596 (8 isolates). Determining the molecular pattern of N. meningitidis in Qatar is helpful for understanding the strains circulating in Qatar, and the study of the resistance trend of such strains may be very helpful for empirical treatment of future patients.

Purpose: Unequal reach and access to information is an issue that affects women involved in agricultural activities around the world. Recent initiatives to address gender unequal access to agricultural information have been clumsy, overlooking participatory approaches that focus on transformative change. This study uses Pakistani rural advisory services to compare farmers' and extension workers' perceptions of access to agricultural information, to identify culturally acceptable gender-responsive schemes. Design/methodology/approach: One-hundred and eleven extension workers in Pakistan's public rural advisory services were interviewed and crosstabulated with farmers' answers in previous studies. Findings: Male extension workers are aware that women access less information less often; however they might not be aware of its importance in the gender inequality debate. Lead farmers could offer a potentially transformative knowledge pathway because of its blend of formal and informal interactions -- both systems favoured by female smallholders. An exclusively female-led lead farmer approach could be developed and trialled in specific areas of the province. Practical implications: Targeted initiatives focusing on improving awareness and importance of gender inequalities in information access as well as specific extension system development centred on lead female farmers and extension agents are important in institutionalising gender and creating transformative change. Theoretical implications: Linking these activities to in-depth social network and agricultural innovation system analyses would provide further evidence of the importance of focused gender activities and their impact on food security. Originality/value: This paper highlights the importance of analysing individual perceptions to understand the types of initiatives that could be considered for a wider institutionalisation of gender in RAS.

This article discusses the role of ultrasonography (US) in diagnosing ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injuries of the thumb. UCL injuries are common and can lead to chronic instability if left untreated. The study found that US is highly accurate in diagnosing full-thickness tears that require surgical management, with a sensitivity of 94% and a positive predictive value (PPV) of 94%. Clinical examination, on the other hand, had a sensitivity of 76% and a PPV of 87%. However, US had a lower sensitivity and PPV for detecting Stener lesions. Overall, US is a reliable tool for diagnosing UCL injuries, but caution should be exercised when assessing Stener lesions. [Extracted from the article]

Purpose: Rural advisory services ensure agricultural information is disseminated to rural populations, yet they are less accessible to women. This research provides insight on gender differences in information access by investigating frequency of use and preference of agricultural information sources by gender in a rural setting, differentiated according to literacy and age. Design/Methodology/approach: This study interviewed 401 male/female individuals in farm households in Jhang and Bahawalpur district of Punjab, Pakistan in 2016. Findings: Men and women farmers' use and preferences in accessing information sources are extremely different. Women hardly use sources for agricultural information, and value interpersonal communication from informal sources. In contrast, men use and value official agencies more. Radio, surprisingly, was very rarely used, contradicting previous findings of research elsewhere. Age and literacy affect differences between women more than it does between men, particularly for convenient locations to access information. Practical implications: The study identified and refined major gender differences regarding use and preference for agricultural information in relation to age and literacy, and helps to articulate options to improve gender equality of access to agricultural information in Pakistan. Theoretical implications: The focus and outcomes regarding gender intersecting with age and literacy in agricultural information access imply the need for more refined socio-economic models, discerning and interrelating gender and other social dimensions beyond the standard of male-headed households. Originality/value: This paper adds to the growing body of evidence on information access according to gender, highlighting the need to investigate deeper socio-cultural issues around age and literacy.

Physicochemical properties of artisanal refined gasoline (ARG) and regular automotive gasoline (RAG) sampled from the Eastern Obolo Creek and Mkpat Enin, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria were investigated. This was to compare the physicochemical properties of the two gasoline samples with each other and their compliance with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards. The finding revealed an antiknock index of RAG (91.15%) and ARG (83.05%), atmospheric distillation of RAG (185°C) and ARG (184°C), Reid vapor pressure of RAG (0.53 kg/cm3) and ARG (0.36 kg/cm3), gravity of RAG (0.771) and ARG (0.683), sulfur content of RAG (0.014%/wt) and ARG (0.02%/wt), while Flash point for RAG were Pensky Martens −25°C, Abel-Pensky −33°C and ARG Pensky Martens −27°C, Abel-Pensky −35.36°C, respectively. The research octane number, motor octane number, Reid vapor pressure, sulfur content, and specific gravity of RAG were (ASTM) compliant while only the final boiling point and sulfur content of ARG were within ASTM range. Based on the findings, the LRG might have been poorly refined or adulterated and could constitute problems in automotive engines if used. However, this crude technology can be upgraded and the gasoline quality improved through alkylation, isomerization, and cyclization. Artisanal refiners should be trained to become proficient with the intent of becoming incorporated into the upstream petroleum sector.

BackgroundIn this large-scale cluster-randomized controlled trial (cRCT) we sought to assess the effectiveness of facemasks against viral respiratory infections.Methods and resultsOver three consecutive Hajj seasons (2013, 2014, 2015) pilgrims' tents in Makkah were allocated to 'facemask' or 'no facemask' group. Fifty facemasks were offered to participants in intervention tents, to be worn over four days, and none were offered to participants in control tents. All participants recorded facemask use and respiratory symptoms in health diaries. Nasal swabs were collected from the symptomatic for virus detection by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Clinical symptoms and laboratory results were analyzed by 'intention- to-treat' and 'per-protocol'. A total of 7687 adult participants from 318 tents were randomized: 3864 from 149 tents to the intervention group, and 3823 from 169 tents to the control group. Participants were aged 18 to 95 (median 34, mean 37) years, with a male to female ratio of 1:1.2. Overall, respiratory viruses were detected in 277 of 650 (43%) nasal/pharyngeal swabs collected from symptomatic pilgrims. Common viruses were rhinovirus (35.1%), influenza (4.5%) and parainfluenza (1.7%). In the intervention arm, respectively 954 (24.7%) and 1842 (47.7%) participants used facemasks daily and intermittently, while in the control arm, respectively 546 (14.3%) and 1334 (34.9%) used facemasks daily and intermittently. By intention-to-treat analysis, facemask use did not seem to be effective against laboratory-confirmed viral respiratory infections (odds ratio [OR], 1.4; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.9 to 2.1, p = 0.18) nor against clinical respiratory infection (OR, 1.1; 95% CI, 0.9 to 1.4, p = 0.40). Similarly, in a per-protocol analysis, facemask use did not seem to be effective against laboratory-confirmed viral respiratory infections (OR 1.2, 95% CI 0.9-1.7, p = 0.26) nor against clinical respiratory infection (OR 1.3, 95% CI 1.0-1.8, p = 0.06).ConclusionThis trial was unable to provide conclusive evidence on facemask efficacy against viral respiratory infections most likely due to poor adherence to protocol.
