Abstract

All-solid-state lithium batteries have attracted widespread attention for next-generation energy storage, potentially providing enhanced safety and cycling stability. The performance of such batteries relies on solid electrolyte materials; hence many structures/phases are being investigated with increasing compositional complexity. Among the various solid electrolytes, lithium halides show promising ionic conductivity and cathode compatibility, however, there are no effective guidelines when moving toward complex compositions that go beyond ab-initio modeling. Here, we show that ionic potential, the ratio of charge number and ion radius, can effectively capture the key interactions within halide materials, making it possible to guide the design of the representative crystal structures. This is demonstrated by the preparation of a family of complex layered halides that combine an enhanced conductivity with a favorable isometric morphology, induced by the high configurational entropy. Abstract

Lead halide perovskites have emerged as promising photovoltaic (PV) materials owing to their superior optoelectronic properties. However, they suffer from poor stability and potential toxicity. Here, computational screening with experimental synthesis is combined to explore stable, lead‐free, and defect‐tolerant PV materials. Heavy cations with lone‐pair electrons and mixed anions of chalcogens and halogens as a descriptor for simultaneous realization of defect tolerance and high stability are adopted. Together with the criteria of possessing direct band gap and optimal gap value, the inorganic material database is screened and CuBiSCl2 in the post‐perovskite structure is identified with an ideal band gap of 1.37 eV. The electronic structure and defect calculations suggest its defect‐tolerant characteristics. By optical absorption measurement, its band gap is confirmed to be ≈1.44 eV, with strong absorption near the band edge. The material is stable against thermal decomposition up to 300 °C and can survive from 25 days of storage at ambient conditions with 60% relative humidity. Prototype solar cells are fabricated and demonstrate an open circuit voltage of 1.09 V and a power conversion efficiency of 1.00%. 21. Enhanced Ru Utilization with High Stability of (RuxCoy)Se2/C Electrocatalyst toward Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Abstract

The ruthenium (Ru) precursor was introduced into carbon supported cobalt selenide (CoSe2/C) nanoparticles, which were prepared via a simple microwave route, to obtain the ternary carbon supported ruthenium cobalt selenide (RuCoSe/C) nanoparticles by chemical reduction of Ru on the CoSe2/C surface. Upon the subsequent heat treatment of RuCoSe/C at 400 , a small amount of Ru introduced substituted some Co sites in the CoSe2 through the phase transformation of orthorhombic to cubic CoSe2, which led to the formation of a new cubic phase of (RuxCo1-x)Se2/C. The half-wave and onset potentials were 0.68 V and 0.88V (vs. RHE), respectively, in 0.1 mol*L-1 perchloric acid (HClO4) solutions. The mass activity was as high as 0.09 mA*ug-1 Ru at 0.75 V, which is comparable to that of the commercial Pt/C (0.10 mA*ug-1 Pt). Only 15 mV loss in the half-wave potential was observed after 1000 cycles in 0.1 mol*L-1 HClO4, suggesting the efficient Ru utilization and excellent electrocatalytic stability.

22. Highly Stable and Methanol Tolerant RuTe2/C Electrocatalysts in Alkaline Media

Abstract

The carbon supported ruthenium tellurium (RuTe2/C) nanoparticles were prepared through a simple microwave polyol method and heat treatment at 350 . Effects of Ru/Te molar ratio on the crystal structure, surface morphology, microstructure, electro-catalytic activity and stability, as well as methanol tolerance in an alkaline solution, were systematically investigated. The orthorhombic RuTe2 and hexagonal Ru were identified as the main phases. The catalyst nanoparticles were uniformly dispersed on the carbon support and the average particle size ranged 5.0~8.6 nm. The RuTe2/C catalyst prepared with Ru/Te=1:1 exhibited the best activity toward oxygen reduction reaction. The half-wave potential (E1/2) of 0.74 V with the electron transfer number of 3.7 was achieved in 0.1 mol*L-1 KOH solution. The E1/2 values decreased by 7 mV after 1000 potential cycles test in 0.1 mol*L-1 KOH, while remained unchanged in 0.1 mol*L-1 KOH containing 2 mol*L-1 methanol solutions, suggesting the excellent stability and methanol tolerance.

23. CsPbI 2 Br Perovskite Solar Cells Based on Carbon Black-Containing Counter Electrodes.

Abstract

CsPbI 2 Br perovskite solar cells (PSCs) based on carbon electrodes (CEs) are considered to be low-cost and thermally stable devices. Nevertheless, the insufficient contact and energy level mismatch between the CsPbI 2 Br layer and CE hinder the further enhancement of the cell efficiency. Herein, a carbon black (CB) interlayer was introduced between the perovskite layer and CE. The hole extraction was facilitated due to the larger contact area and suitable energy band alignment in the CsPbI 2 Br/CB interface. Further investigation indicated the diffusion of CB nanoparticles from the CE or CB layer to the CsPbI 2 Br film after a certain period of time. We disclosed the formation of a CB-CsPbI 2 Br bulk heterojunction structure due to the carbon diffusion, which resulted in an efficiency enhancement. As a result, a record efficiency of 13.13% is achieved for carbon-based inorganic PSCs. This work also reveals that the diffusion of CB nanoparticles in CB-containing PSCs is universal and inevitable, although this kind of diffusion results in the enhancement of cell efficiency.
