Crop coefficient (Kc), the ratio of crop evapotranspiration (ETc) to reference evapotranspiration (ETo), is used to schedule an efficient irrigation regime. This research was conducted to investigate variations in ETc and growth-stage-specific Kc in flood-irrigated winter wheat as a forage crop from 2021 to 2023 in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of southern New Mexico, USA, and evaluate the performances of two temperature-based ETo estimation methods of Hargreaves–Samani and Blaney–Criddle with the widely used Penman–Monteith method. The results indicated that the total ETc over the whole growth stage for flood-irrigated winter wheat was 556.4 mm on a two-year average, while the average deep percolation (DP) was 2.93 cm and 2.77 cm, accounting for 28.8% and 27.2% of applied irrigation water in the 2021–2022 and 2022–2023 growing seasons, respectively. The ETo over the growing season, computed using Penman–Monteith, Hargreaves–Samani, and Blaney–Criddle equations, were 867.0 mm, 1015.0 mm, and 856.2 mm in 2021–2022, and 785.6 mm, 947.0 mm, and 800.1 mm in 2022–2023, respectively. The result of global sensitivity analysis showed that the mean temperature is the main driving factor for estimated ETo based on Blaney–Criddle and Hargreaves–Samani methods, but the sensitivity percentage for Blaney–Criddle was 76.9%, which was much higher than that of 48.9% for Hargreaves–Samani, given that Blaney–Criddle method is less accurate in ETo estimation for this area, especially during the hottest season from May to August. In contrast, wind speed and maximum temperature were the main driving factors for the Penman–Monteith method, with sensitivity percentages of 70.9% and 21.9%, respectively. The two-year average crop coefficient (Kc) values at the initial, mid, and late growth stage were 0.54, 1.1, and 0.54 based on Penman–Monteith, 0.51, 1.0 and 0.46 based on Blaney–Criddle, and 0.52, 1.2 and 0.56 based on Hargreaves–Samani. The results showed that the Hargreaves–Samani equation serves as an alternative tool to predict ETo when fewer meteorological variables are available. Introduction: Responding to the need for innovative, multi-modal, nonpharmacological strategies in chronic low back pain (cLBP) care, this article presents the development and a mixed methods feasibility trial of a manualized Mindfulness-based Dance/Movement Therapy (M-DMT) program for cLBP. The 12-week program is designed as a group therapy, integrating mindfulness principles, creative/expressive dance and movement, and psychoeducational content focused on cLBP management. This holistic program seeks to cultivate nonjudgmental awareness of pain experiences, challenge maladaptive pain-related beliefs, enhance emotional well-being, foster social support, and promote effective coping strategies for the daily challenges associated with cLBP. Methods: The 12-week M-DMT intervention was administered to individuals with non-specific cLBP (N = 18, aged 51.7 ± 13.9 years, 72% female, 55% Black and 39% White). We assessed feasibility and acceptability through monitoring enrollment and retention rates, attendance, and adverse events. Moreover, we measured the intervention's credibility/expectancy, participants' perception of changes, and overall satisfaction. Additionally, we collected qualitative data, capturing participants' perspectives on the intervention's usefulness and perceived benefits. Specific benchmarks were established to gauge the successful feasibility and acceptability of the program. Results: The adherence rate stood at 80%, with a perfect retention rate of 100%. The study successfully met the benchmarks for treatment acceptability and satisfaction criteria, with 61% of participants reporting "feeling better" or a "great deal better" after the intervention. No adverse events were observed. Participants found the intervention enjoyable and reported that it provided effective tools for cLBP and related symptoms. Notably, participants reported a decrease in fear-avoidance behaviors, increased motivation for physical activity, and a boost in self-efficacy for pain management. Discussion: These encouraging findings establish a strong basis for considering the M-DMT intervention as a promising approach for cLBP management, warranting further investigation in larger-scale studies. Citrulline malate (CitMal) is a dietary supplement that is suggested to enhance strength training performance. However, there is conflicting evidence on this matter. Thus, the purpose of this meta-analysis was to determine whether supplementing with CitMal prior to strength training could increase the total number of repetitions performed before reaching voluntary muscular failure. A systematic search was conducted wherein the inclusion criteria were double-blind, placebo-controlled studies in healthy participants that examined the effect of CitMal on repetitions to failure during upper body and lower body resistance exercises. The Hedges's g standardized mean differences (SMD) between the placebo and CitMal trials were calculated and used in a random effect model. Two separate subanalyses were performed for upper body and lower body exercises. Eight studies, including 137 participants who consisted of strength-trained men (n = 101) and women (n = 26) in addition to untrained men (n = 9), fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Across the studies, 14 single-joint and multijoint exercises were performed with an average of 51 ± 23 total repetitions during 5 ± 3 sets per exercise at ∼70% of one-repetition maximum. Supplementing with 6–8 g of CitMal 40–60 min before exercise increased repetitions by 3 ± 5 (6.4 ± 7.9%) compared with placebo (p =.022) with a small SMD (0.196). The subanalysis for the lower body resulted in a tendency for an effect of the supplement (8.1 ± 8.4%, SMD: 0.27, p =.051) with no significant effect for the upper body (5.7 ± 8.4%, SMD: 0.16, p =.131). The current analysis observed a small ergogenic effect of CitMal compared with placebo. Acute CitMal supplementation may, therefore, delay fatigue and enhance muscle endurance during high-intensity strength training. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
