Abstract

La pedagogía de la inclusión persigue formar personas desde la perspectiva de su individualidad, teniendo en cuenta su interacción social. Para la escuela cubana es un reto porque requiere cambios en la forma de interactuar, investigar y ofrece oportunidades de aprendizaje considerando la diversidad de necesidades y las diferencias de contextos, como alternativa más viable para proporcionar una respuesta educativa individualizada, comprensiva y diversificada. La Educación Física es una de las materias del currículo que tiene una alta responsabilidad de educar desde la diversidad, pero para ello los docentes deben capacitarse en las exigencias educativas a satisfacer. Los autores proponen algunas acciones metodológicas ya aplicadas a fin de que constituyan experiencias compartidas entre los docentes de la especialidad en sus clases.

Abstract

En este texto se realiza un recorrido sucinto sobre la actualidad de la obra y del método foucaultiano. El esfuerzo realizado trata de actualizar las posibilidades que esta forma de hacer filosofía nos brinda desde la noción de extrañamiento y la concepción de la historia en Foucault. Este punto de partida nos permite pensar sobre los objetivos y fundamentos de la crítica en Foucault y la necesidad de su constate actualización e imposibilidad de fijación. Para ello se atiende a la particularidad que implica la lectura y recepción del trabajo oral en Foucault, así como su caracter inconcluso.

3. Low-Cost Wireless Structural Health Monitoring of Bridges

Abstract

Nowadays, low-cost accelerometers are getting more attention from civil engineers to make Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) applications affordable and applicable to a broader range of structures. The present accelerometers based on Arduino or Raspberry Pi technologies in the literature share some of the following drawbacks: (1) high Noise Density (ND), (2) low sampling frequency, (3) not having the Internet’s timestamp with microsecond resolution, (4) not being used in experimental eigenfrequency analysis of a flexible and a less-flexible bridge, and (5) synchronization issues. To solve these problems, a new low-cost triaxial accelerometer based on Arduino technology is presented in this work (Low-cost Adaptable Reliable Accelerometer—LARA). Laboratory test results show that LARA has a ND of 51 µg/√Hz, and a frequency sampling speed of 333 Hz. In addition, LARA has been applied to the eigenfrequency analysis of a short-span footbridge and its results are compared with those of a high-precision commercial sensor.

Abstract

Structural damage detection using inclinometers is getting wide attention from researchers. However, the high price of inclinometers limits this system to unique structures with a relatively high structural health monitoring (SHM) budget. This paper presents a novel low-cost inclinometer, the low-cost adaptable reliable angle-meter (LARA), which combines five gyroscopes and five accelerometers to measure inclination. LARA incorporates Internet of Things (IoT)-based microcontroller technology enabling wireless data streaming and free commercial software for data acquisition. This paper investigates the accuracy, resolution, Allan variance and standard deviation of LARA produced with a different number of combined circuits, including an accelerometer and a gyroscope. To validate the accuracy and resolution of the developed device, its results are compared with those obtained by numerical slope calculations and a commercial inclinometer (HI-INC) in laboratory conditions. The results of a load test experiment on a simple beam model show the high accuracy of LARA (0.003 degrees). The affordability and high accuracy of LARA make it applicable for structural damage detection on bridges using inclinometers.

Abstract

PLATO (PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of stars) is ESA's M3 mission designed to detect and characterise extrasolar planets and perform asteroseismic monitoring of a large number of stars. PLATO will detect small planets (down to <2 R_(Earth)) around bright stars (<11 mag), including terrestrial planets in the habitable zone of solar-like stars. With the complement of radial velocity observations from the ground, planets will be characterised for their radius, mass, and age with high accuracy (5 %, 10 %, 10 % for an Earth-Sun combination respectively). PLATO will provide us with a large-scale catalogue of well-characterised small planets up to intermediate orbital periods, relevant for a meaningful comparison to planet formation theories and to better understand planet evolution. It will make possible comparative exoplanetology to place our Solar System planets in a broader context. In parallel, PLATO will study (host) stars using asteroseismology, allowing us to determine the stellar properties with high accuracy, substantially enhancing our knowledge of stellar structure and evolution. The payload instrument consists of 26 cameras with 12cm aperture each. For at least four years, the mission will perform high-precision photometric measurements. Here we review the science objectives, present PLATO's target samples and fields, provide an overview of expected core science performance as well as a description of the instrument and the mission profile at the beginning of the serial production of the flight cameras. PLATO is scheduled for a launch date end 2026. This overview therefore provides a summary of the mission to the community in preparation of the upcoming operational phases.

Objective: This study aims to analyse the number and characteristics of calls made to the Málaga Prehospital Emergency Service (PES) for suicidal behavior based on sociodemographic, temporal, and health care variables.Method: This is a retrospective, descriptive study that records all calls made to the PES due to suicidal behavior (suicide attempts and completed suicides) in 2014. Sociodemographic variables (age, sex, and health district), variables related to the calls (time-slot, degree of sunlight, type of day, month, season of the year, prioritization, and number of resources mobilized) were extracted from these calls. The number of cases and percentages were presented for the qualitative variables. The rates per 100,000 were calculated by sex and health district and presented with the corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI).Results: Of the total valid calls to PES (n = 181,824), 1,728 calls were made due to suicidal behavior (0.9%). The mean age was 43.21 (±18) years, 57.4% were women, and the rate was 112.1 per 100,000 inhabitants. The calls due to suicidal behavior were in the younger-middle age segment, in the time-slot between 16 and 23 h and during daylight hours, on bank holidays, in spring and summer in comparison with winter, and with a peak of calls in August. The majority of these calls were classified as undelayable emergencies and mobilized one health resource.Conclusions: Prehospital emergency services are the first contact to the sanitary services of persons or families with suicide attempts. This information should be a priority to offer a complete overview of the suicide behavior.

La diferencia entre un Hormigón Autocompactable (HAC) y un Hormigón Convencional (HC) en estado fresco, es la alta fluidez del primero y la necesidad de vibración en el segundo; pero en estado endurecido, ambos hormigones deben cumplir con la resistencia especificada, garantizando además la funcionalidad y seguridad para la que fue diseñado. En este artículo se describen los ensayos y resultados de retracción y fluencia para algunos hormigones autocompactables de resistencia media con adición de arena (HAC-RMCAs) y dos tipos de cemento. La investigación se realizó en el Laboratorio de Tecnología de Estructuras (LTE) de la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), preparando dosificaciones de 200 Litros; con la idea de evaluar la efectividad de aplicación de estos nuevos hormigones en elementos pensados con hormigones convencionales (HCs).

En el presente trabajo se presenta una serie de ensayos realizados en el Laboratorio de Tecnología de Estructuras de la Escuela de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos de Barcelona (Departamento de Ingeniería de la Construcción) de la Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña. La campaña de ensayos incluía una serie de vigas de sección "doble T" de hormigón autocompactable de resistencia media (HAC-RM) y una serie paralela realizada con hormigón convencional (HC) de la misma resistencia mecánica. Se verificó el comportamiento estructural frente al esfuerzo cortante de vigas de hormigón armado y pretensado con armadura pretesa y postesa, y tanto estructuras continuas como isostáticas. Los resultados muestran una menor resistencia a cortante en las vigas con HAC y armadura pasiva y activa. Para las vigas pretensadas con HAC y HC los valores de resistencia a cortante fueron similares.

11. Fast Adapting Ensemble: A New Algorithm for Mining Data Streams with Concept Drift

Abstract

The treatment of large data streams in the presence of concept drifts is one of the main challenges in the field of data mining, particularly when the algorithms have to deal with concepts that disappear and then reappear. This paper presents a new algorithm, called Fast Adapting Ensemble (FAE), which adapts very quickly to both abrupt and gradual concept drifts, and has been specifically designed to deal with recurring concepts. FAE processes the learning examples in blocks of the same size, but it does not have to wait for the batch to be complete in order to adapt its base classification mechanism. FAE incorporates a drift detector to improve the handling of abrupt concept drifts and stores a set of inactive classifiers that represent old concepts, which are activated very quickly when these concepts reappear. We compare our new algorithm with various well-known learning algorithms, taking into account, common benchmark datasets. The experiments show promising results from the proposed algorithm (regarding accuracy and runtime), handling different types of concept drifts.

Abstract

The discovery of almost 2000 exoplanets has revealed an unexpectedly diverse planet population. Observations to date have shown that our Solar System is certainly not representative of the general population of planets in our Milky Way. The key science questions that urgently need addressing are therefore: What are exoplanets made of? Why are planets as they are? What causes the exceptional diversity observed as compared to the Solar System? EChO (Exoplanet Characterisation Observatory) has been designed as a dedicated survey mission for transit and eclipse spectroscopy capable of observing a large and diverse planet sample within its four-year mission lifetime. EChO can target the atmospheres of super-Earths, Neptune-like, and Jupiter-like planets, in the very hot to temperate zones (planet temperatures of 300K-3000K) of F to M-type host stars. Over the next ten years, several new ground- and space-based transit surveys will come on-line (e.g. NGTS, CHEOPS, TESS, PLATO), which will specifically focus on finding bright, nearby systems. The current rapid rate of discovery would allow the target list to be further optimised in the years prior to EChO's launch and enable the atmospheric characterisation of hundreds of planets. Placing the satellite at L2 provides a cold and stable thermal environment, as well as a large field of regard to allow efficient time-critical observation of targets randomly distributed over the sky. A 1m class telescope is sufficiently large to achieve the necessary spectro-photometric precision. The spectral coverage (0.5-11 micron, goal 16 micron) and SNR to be achieved by EChO, thanks to its high stability and dedicated design, would enable a very accurate measurement of the atmospheric composition and structure of hundreds of exoplanets., Comment: 50 pages, 30 figures. Abstract

Tunnelling under the York University Schulich Building was one of the milestones of the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension Project. The challenge was to bore the tunnel under a flagship building only one diameter below the foundation without a compensation grouting process. Intensive finite element structural and geotechnical analyses of the building and the tunnel were performed, together with monitoring field measurements. The results showed that compensation, included in the initial design, was not necessary to ensure the building's structural integrity. The tunnel monitoring during crossing confirmed the results of the performed analyses. The paper highlights the difficulty of deciding whether a compensation grouting is necessary or not when tunnelling under buildings and explains the procedure that was followed in this particular case.Key words: tunnels, monitoring, buildings, settlements.Le creusement d'un tunnel sous l'edifice Schulich de l'Universite York etait un des jalons du projet de prolongement de la ligne de metro de Toronto-York Spadina. Abstract

Online research is a frequent and important activity people perform on the Internet, yet current support for this task is basic, fragmented and not well integrated into web browser experiences. Guided by sensemaking theory, we present ForSense, a browser extension for accelerating people’s online research experience. The two primary sources of novelty of ForSense are the integration of multiple stages of online research and providing machine assistance to the user by leveraging recent advances in neural-driven machine reading. We use ForSense as a design probe to explore (1) the benefits of integrating multiple stages of online research, (2) the opportunities to accelerate online research using current advances in machine reading, (3) the opportunities to support online research tasks in the presence of imprecise machine suggestions, and (4) insights about the behaviors people exhibit when performing online research, the pages they visit, and the artifacts they create. Through our design probe, we observe people performing online research tasks, and see that they benefit from ForSense’s integration and machine support for online research. From the information and insights we collected, we derive and share key recommendations for designing and supporting imprecise machine assistance for research tasks.

Abstract

This paper explains the design criteria used for nine box-girder continuous high-speed rail viaducts constructed in Spain. It describes the longitudinal layout and an innovative construction process using movable scaffolding. A comparison between different post-tensioning and reinforcing steel ratios is provided. Recommendations for fatigue design and concrete stress criteria in the serviceability limit state are given. In addition, the paper provides the quantities of concrete, post-tensioning and reinforcing steel used in the construction of the viaducts.

Abstract

The huaya seed, considered as fruit waste, represents 40% of the total weight of this tropical fruit that is highly consumed in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. Starch isolated from the fruit seed flour has becoming an alternative to the use of non-conventional sources starches. The present study aims to isolate starch from huaya seed flour and characterize it by its physicochemical, structural, thermal and functional properties. The starch yield was 39.38% containing low levels of protein, lipids, ash and fiber. Starch was characterized by exhibiting an average size of 14.54 µm presenting an oval shape without cracks, high amylose content and high content of resistant starch (RS). Additional analysis shown that starch possesses a more ordered microstructure (C-type starch and ratio 1047/1022 cm−1 and 1022/995 cm−1), high decomposition and gelatinization temperatures, and perhaps these results explain the low swelling capacity of the granule and its low rate of enzymatic hydrolysis. According to the results, this starch owns the potential to be used in non-transparent foods that require high temperatures (such as baking), for the design of products with a lower glycemic index and lower caloric value, and additionally, for the manufacture of bioplastic films for applications as wrappings in food industry.
