Abstract

Neodymium doped Na2O-ZnO-TeO2 (NZT) glasses were prepared by the conventional melt quenching technique. DTA and TG were used to confirmation of glass preparation through the glass transition temperature at 447{\deg}C for the glass system. The analysis of FTIR spectra and X-ray diffraction described the nature of the samples were ionic and amorphous respectively. The optical bandgap energy was estimated using absorption spectra and found to be decreased from 2.63eV to 1.32 eV due to the increase of doping concentration. The intensity of the emission spectra was enhanced for the higher concentration of Nd3+ ions. The dielectric constant of the glass samples was found to be constant for the large range of frequency (3 kHz to 1 MHz). The variation of conductivity with the temperature of the samples had shown the Arrhenius mechanism of conduction.

26. Enhancement of energy storage efficiency in lanthanum and cobalt co-doped BiFeO3 nanomaterials.

Abstract

Lanthanum and cobalt-incorporated BiFeO3 (BFO) nanomaterials have been prepared and their structural, dielectric, and multiferroic properties have been reported here. Bi1-xLaxFe1-xCoxO3 (x = 0, 0.03, 0.06, 0.09, 0.12) nanomaterials have been synthesized successfully through a simple solvothermal technique. XRD and Rietveld refinement analysis using the FullProf Software confirms that all synthesized materials follow the rhombohedral perovskite crystal structure of the R3c space group. The variations of dielectric properties with frequency at room temperature and with temperature at different frequencies have been observed for the temperature range 35 °C to 360 °C. Impedance analysis has also been performed to indicate the contributions of grain, grain boundary, etc. of the samples in the electrical conduction process. The Nyquist plot gives information on the conduction mechanism of all synthesized samples, where grain, grain boundary, and electrode effects are present. The frequency-dependent AC conductivity behavior strongly follows Jonscher’s universal law. The enhancement of magnetic properties has been observed for the doped samples from the study of room temperature magnetic hysteresis loop using SQUID. The improvement in magnetoelectric coupling and energy storage efficiency has been observed for doped nanocompounds from the measurement of magneto-capacitance and P-E loop, respectively. The observed properties of the co-doped BFO nanomaterials are very useful for energy storage and spintronic devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

36. A framework for the estimation of treatment costs of cardiovascular conditions in the presence of disease transition

Abstract

The current research aims to aid policymakers and healthcare service providers in estimating expected long-term costs of medical treatment, particularly for chronic conditions characterized by disease transition. The study comprised two phases (qualitative and quantitative), in which we developed linear optimization-based mathematical frameworks to ascertain the expected long-term treatment cost per patient considering the integration of various related dimensions such as the progression of the medical condition, the accuracy of medical treatment, treatment decisions at respective severity levels of the medical condition, and randomized/deterministic policies. At the qualitative research stage, we conducted the data collection and validation of various cogent hypotheses acting as inputs to the prescriptive modeling stage. We relied on data collected from 115 different cardio-vascular clinicians to understand the nuances of disease transition and related medical dimensions. The framework developed was implemented in the context of a multi-specialty hospital chain headquartered in the capital city of a state in Eastern India, the results of which have led to some interesting insights. For instance, at the prescriptive modeling stage, though one of our contributions related to the development of a novel medical decision-making framework, we illustrated that the randomized versus deterministic policy seemed more cost-competitive. We also identified that the expected treatment cost was most sensitive to variations in steady-state probability at the “major” as opposed to the “severe” stage of a medical condition, even though the steady-state probability of the “severe” state was less than that of the “major” state.

Abstract

Praseodymium incorporated Na2O–ZnO–TeO2 (NZT) glass materials were prepared through usual melt quenching technique. The temperature of glass transition and the melting point were obtained by using thermal analyses. The amorphous and ionic nature of the prepared samples was obtained from the recorded X-ray diffraction pattern and FTIR spectra respectively. The optical band gap energy was calculated using UV-Vis absorption spectra and was observed to be decreased from 2.86 to 2.46 eV due to the increasing concentration of Pr3+ ions. The peaks of absorption spectra were found. The intense emission was observed from the fluorescence measurement for the emission band of Pr3+ doped glass materials. The doping of higher concentrations of Pr3+ ions enhanced the intensity of the emission peaks. The CIE chromaticity coordinates were estimated from fluorescence spectra for pure and Pr3+ doped glass samples to know the suitability of laser emission of these glass samples. The dielectric constant of the glass materials was observed to be independent of frequency in the large range of frequency (500 Hz to 2 MHz). The variation of conductivity of the glasses was exposed the Arrhenius mechanism of conduction with the temperature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This initiative examined systematically the extent to which a large set of archival research findings generalizes across contexts. We repeated the key analyses for 29 original strategic management effects in the same context (direct reproduction) as well as in 52 novel time periods and geographies; 45% of the reproductions returned results matching the original reports together with 55% of tests in different spans of years and 40% of tests in novel geographies. Some original findings were associated with multiple new tests. Reproducibility was the best predictor of generalizability—for the findings that proved directly reproducible, 84% emerged in other available time periods and 57% emerged in other geographies. Overall, only limited empirical evidence emerged for context sensitivity. In a forecasting survey, independent scientists were able to anticipate which effects would find support in tests in new samples. Publisher PDF
