Abstract

We report on a new measurement of the beam transverse single spin asymmetry in electron-proton elastic scattering, $A^{ep}_{\perp}$, at five beam energies from 315.1 MeV to 1508.4 MeV and at a scattering angle of $30^{\circ} < \theta < 40^{\circ}$. The covered $Q^2$ values are 0.032, 0.057, 0.082, 0.218, 0.613 (GeV/c)$^2$. The measurement clearly indicates significant inelastic contributions to the two-photon-exchange (TPE) amplitude in the low-$Q^2$ kinematic region. No theoretical calculation is able to reproduce our result. Comparison with a calculation based on unitarity, which only takes into account elastic and $\mathrm{\pi N}$ inelastic intermediate states, suggests that there are other inelastic intermediate states such as $\mathrm{\pi \pi N}$, $\mathrm{K \Lambda}$ and $\mathrm{\eta N}$. Abstract

Values of the proton analysing power in the $pd\to{}^{3}\textrm{He}\,\pi^0/^{3}\textrm{H}\,\pi^+$ reactions at 350-360~MeV per nucleon were obtained by using a polarised proton beam incident on a deuterium cluster-jet target and with a polarised deuteron beam incident on a target cell filled with polarised hydrogen. These results have a much larger angular coverage than existing data. First measurements are also presented of the deuteron vector analysing power and the deuteron-proton spin correlations. Data were also obtained on the deuteron-proton spin correlation and proton analysing power at small angles at 600~MeV per nucleon, though the angular coverage at this energy was much more restricted even when using a deuteron beam. By combining the extrapolated values of the spin correlations to the forward or backward directions with published measurements of the deuteron tensor analysing powers, the relative phases between the two non-vanishing amplitudes were evaluated., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

The differential cross section for proton-proton elastic scattering has been measured at a beam energy of 1.0 GeV and in 200 MeV steps from 1.6 to 2.8 GeV for centre-of-mass angles in the range from 12-16 degrees to 25-30 degrees, depending on the energy. Absolute normalisations of typically 3% were achieved by studying the energy losses of the circulating beam of the COSY storage ring as it passed repeatedly through the windowless hydrogen target of the ANKE magnetic spectrometer. It is shown that the data have a significant impact upon a partial wave analysis. After extrapolating the differential cross sections to the forward direction, the results are broadly compatible with the predictions of forward dispersion relations.

Abstract

The proton analysing power in $\vec{p}p$ elastic scattering has been measured at small angles at COSY-ANKE at 796 MeV and five other beam energies between 1.6 and 2.4 GeV using a polarised proton beam. The asymmetries obtained by detecting the fast proton in the ANKE forward detector or the slow recoil proton in a silicon tracking telescope are completely consistent. Although the analysing power results agree well with the many published data at 796 MeV, and also with the most recent partial wave solution at this energy, the ANKE data at the higher energies lie well above the predictions of this solution at small angles. An updated phase shift analysis that uses the ANKE results together with the World data leads to a much better description of these new measurements., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

The vector and tensor analysing powers, $A_y$ and $A_{yy}$, of the $\vec{p}d \to n\{pp\}_{s}$ charge-exchange reaction have been measured at a beam energy of 600 MeV at the COSY-ANKE facility by using an unpolarised proton beam incident on an internal storage cell target filled with polarised deuterium gas. The low energy recoiling protons were measured in a pair of silicon tracking telescopes placed on either side of the target. Putting a cut of 3 MeV on the diproton excitation energy ensured that the two protons were dominantly in the $^{1}S_{0}$ state, here denoted by $\{pp\}_{s}$. The polarisation of the deuterium gas was established through measurements in parallel of proton-deuteron elastic scattering. By analysing events where both protons entered the same telescope, the charge-exchange reaction was measured for momentum transfers $q\geq 160$ MeV/$c$. These data provide a good continuation of the earlier results at $q\leq 140$ MeV/$c$ obtained with a polarised deuteron beam. They are also consistent with impulse approximation predictions with little sign evident for any modifications due to multiple scatterings.

Abstract

This paper describes a time-marking system that enables a measurement of the in-plane (horizontal) polarization of a 0.97-GeV/c deuteron beam circulating in the Cooler Synchrotron (COSY) at the Forschungszentrum J\"ulich. The clock time of each polarimeter event is used to unfold the 120-kHz spin precession and assign events to bins according to the direction of the horizontal polarization. After accumulation for one or more seconds, the down-up scattering asymmetry can be calculated for each direction and matched to a sinusoidal function whose magnitude is proportional to the horizontal polarization. This requires prior knowledge of the spin tune or polarization precession rate. An initial estimate is refined by re-sorting the events as the spin tune is adjusted across a narrow range and searching for the maximum polarization magnitude. The result is biased toward polarization values that are too large, in part because of statistical fluctuations but also because sinusoidal fits to even random data will produce sizeable magnitudes when the phase is left free to vary. An analysis procedure is described that matches the time dependence of the horizontal polarization to templates based on emittance-driven polarization loss while correcting for the positive bias. This information will be used to study ways to extend the horizontal polarization lifetime by correcting spin tune spread using ring sextupole fields and thereby to support the feasibility of searching for an intrinsic electric dipole moment using polarized beams in a storage ring. Abstract

The transverse spin correlations Axx and Ayy in the np-> d pi^0 reaction have been measured for the first time in quasi-free kinematics at the COSY-ANKE facility using a polarised deuteron beam incident on a polarised hydrogen cell target. The results obtained for neutron energies close to 353 MeV and 600 MeV are in good agreement with the partial wave analysis of data on the isospin-related pp-> d pi^+ reaction, though the present results cover also the small-angle region, which was largely absent from these data.

Abstract

In our HELIPORT workshop, we provided insights into our project and share our results. In addition, we would like to provide a platform for the presentation of similar projects, as well as extensions or integrations from the surrounding research areas. The overall goal of the workshop is bringing together different institutions with similar challenges and establishing a community around our HELIPORT project. We therefore encouraged our community to submit an abstract for a talk or poster. The submissions are dedicated to four thematic points: • HELIPORTuse-cases, • Scientificprojectandmetadatamanagement, • Experiment-specificandoverallmetadataand • Scientificworkflows. HELIPORT (Helmholtz ScIentific Project WORkflow PlaTform) itself is a project funded by the Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration, and runs from July 2021 until June 2023. HELIPORT aims to make the entire life cycle of a scientific project findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable according to the FAIR principles. In particular, our data management solution deals with the areas from the generation of the data to the publication of primary research data, the workflows carried out and the actual research results. For this purpose, a concept was developed which shows the various essential components and their connections.

15. Influence of Particle Distribution on Macroscopic Properties of Particle Flow Model

Abstract

The particle flow discrete element models for uniaxial compression and tensile tests of rocks are established to study the influence of the particle distribution randomness on the macroscopic mechanical properties of such model. The results of macroscopic mechanical properties show strong discreteness due to the variance of particle distributions, in which compressive strength, tensile strength and Poisson's ratio follow the normal distribution and the Young's modulus follows the negative skewness distribution. The average values of the macroscopic strength obtained based on multiple calculations with different particle distributions should be used for the calibration of microscopic parameters. According to the relationship between sample size and deviation of macro strength averages, the minimum calculation number required to obtain high-precision macro strength with different confidence levels is given.

Abstract

[Objective] To investigate the effect of β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate （HMβ） supplementation on muscle protection in taekwondo players during training. [Methods] 18 male subjects above the second level of the Taekwondo special Team who voluntarily participated in the experiment were recruited and divided into experimental and control groups （9 each） according to the conditions. The experimental group consumed one sachet （25 g/bag, the amount of HMβ added was 500 mg/bag） of HMβ-added milk powder before and after training （with a break of more than 30 min） in the morning and afternoon from Monday to Saturday, while the control group consumed the same amount of commercially available regular milk powder. Blood samples were collected before and after the intervention and on Monday mornings to analyze the changes in biochemical indicators, and quantitative tests of Taekwondo-specific abilities were performed before and after the experiment. [Results] Compared with the control group, the experimental group did not see significant changes in the pro-inflammatory factor interleukin-6, plasma glutamine levels were significantly increased （PPPβ supplementation during training can exert protective functions by reducing inflammation, improving immune function, maintaining muscle membrane stability, increasing nitrogen stores, and strengthening muscle remodeling ability, improving muscle adaptability to training to ensure their competitive status.

Abstract

Acoustic emission (AE) of 316L stainless steel with of low Ni content shows, under tension, simultaneously three avalanche processes. One avalanche process relates to the movement of dislocations, the others to martensitic transformations and detwinning/twinning. Detwinning/twinning occurs predominantly at the early stage of the plastic deformation while martensitic transformations only become observable after large plastic deformation. All processes coincide during deformation with variable effect on AE. An excellent fingerprint for the detection of the coincidence between the several mechanisms is the observation of multivalued E ~ A2 correlations. AE signals from moving dislocations decay more slowly (~ 7×10-3s) and show long avalanche durations. As a general quality characteristic with comprehensive feature, the aircraft structure operational integrity(ASOI) is the basis for aircraft structure to exert its operational applicability and effectiveness. The ASOI includes six mainly characteristics, such as durability, supportability, safety, structural capability, survivability and recoverability. The same structural design techniques may have different effects on the six mainly characteristics. In order to improve the ASOI, the development requirements of aircraft structural strength are discussed from the perspective of six mainly characteristics of ASOI, which is based on the analysis of ASOI meaning and aircraft combat characteristics. In addition, the influence of typical structural design techniques on ASOI is also analyzed, which is used for providing the basis for the relate analysis of aircraft structural strength.

Abstract

International audience; The vector and tensor analysing powers, AyAy and AyyAyy, of the View the MathML sourcepd→→n{pp}s charge-exchange reaction have been measured at a beam energy of 600 MeV at the COSY-ANKE facility by using an unpolarised proton beam incident on an internal storage cell target filled with polarised deuterium gas. The low energy recoiling protons were measured in a pair of silicon tracking telescopes placed on either side of the target. Putting a cut of 3 MeV on the diproton excitation energy ensured that the two protons were dominantly in the View the MathML sourceS01 state, here denoted by {pp}s{pp}s. The polarisation of the deuterium gas was established through measurements in parallel of proton–deuteron elastic scattering. By analysing events where both protons entered the same telescope, the charge-exchange reaction was measured for momentum transfers q≥160 MeV/cq≥160 MeV/c. These data provide a good continuation of the earlier results at q≤140 MeV/cq≤140 MeV/c obtained with a polarised deuteron beam. They are also consistent with impulse approximation predictions with little sign evident for any modifications due to multiple scatterings. These successful results confirm that the ANKE deuteron charge-exchange programme can be extended to much higher energies with a polarised deuterium target than can be achieved with a polarised deuteron beam.
