The article focuses on the freedom struggle of India. Despite the government censorship in India, the news that leaks through the cables, together with British journalistic comments, makes a very interesting picture to one who is familiar with the forces at work. The arrest of Indian freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi has not weakened but strengthened the power of the Indian Congress movement. That was natural, for not till he was imprisoned did the full force of his example and ideas begin to tell upon the hearts and minds of Indians.

This article focuses on the failure of the British policy in India. The British government has issued its proposals for constitutional change in India, and yet the British censorship lets so little news from India come through, many people are wondering what will be the final outcome of the struggle there. It is appropriate, therefore, to state the principal facts and reasons why they may be sure that India, as represented by the Indian National Congress, will win her political and economic freedom from Great Britain.

On June 27, 1934 according to the London Times of June 28, 1934 Sir Samuel Hoare, Secretary of State for India, announced in the House of Commons in reference to the Indian problem that the government was now convinced that "the settlement of the urgent and important questions that still remain to be decided will only be delayed by formal sessions of large bodies such as the Round Table Conference or of such committees as the Federal Structure Committee. Instead, for the sake of speed and the financial safeguards, the government proposed, he said, to have a joint select committee of both houses of Parliament consult informally in London with "a few individuals whose personal experience qualifies them to speak with authority."

The article focuses on Simon Commission's report on India. Volume I of the Report of the Simon Commission is a careful, detailed, and persuasive presentation of facts in the Indian situation. There are in it some distortions of emphasis amounting almost to omissions of pertinent facts, but these were probably intentional. The impression it made upon Great Britain and upon the U.S. was that India presents a problem of tremendous extent and complexity. Volume II, as a piece of constitutional planning, is remarkably skilful and thorough-indeed masterly. In its attitude and implications it is a monument of British firmness.

This article presents information on political and social conditions of India. The present upheaval in India is so vast and complex that it is very difficult to foresee the probable outcome. For Americans the difficulty is increased by the fragmentariness of all reports which they get. First of all, in regard to the Hindu-Muslim quarrels, so strongly stressed in all British discussions; it is to be remembered that these quarrels occur almost entirely in cities and but rarely in villages. As nearly 90 per cent of the Indian population lives in villages, city disputes are not so all-important as some reports would indicate.

The application of rational methods of analysis to the conduct of the operative details of industrial establishments has long been accepted as an effective means of approaching the maximum efficiency of output, and in recent years production problems of all kinds have been studied and solved by such methods. In this paper the author advocates the application of a similar mode of analysis to an increasingly important phase of the labor problem, namely, the labor turnover, or the shifting of workers from one place of employment to another. He considers various causes that have given rise to the problem and suggests other aspects of the subject that still remain to be explored, leaving a discussion of the remedies which have proved successful for future treatment.

This article focuses on the book "Indian Patchwork," by Edward and Mary Charles. This book is an exhibit of the psychological pathology of imperialism. It is not important or pleasant, though for those who think about the problems of imperialism it is distinctly interesting. It is presumably authentic, but even if not a real record, it shows the frame of mind of some members of the leading imperialist nation. The book purports to be two diaries kept from 1927 to 1928 by an Englishman and his wife, while the husband was the principal of a mixed Hindu-Moslem university college in central India. It vividly records their irritation and doubts, torments of conscience, and repulsion from almost all Indians and from all aspects of their life in India as members of the alien governing group.

The article focuses on the book "Gandhi Versus the Empire," by Haridas T. Muzumdar, and with a foreword by Will Durant. This is a book not only for people who are interested in Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi or in India but also for all who are troubled by the imminence, almost everywhere, of widespread violence and probable black reaction. For in it there are many of the most weighty and illuminating statements of the man who has done more than anyone else to show the power and practical effectiveness of non-violent moral struggle in settling great public questions.

Communists say that Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi has sold out to the British and to Indian capitalists. Many non-Communist friends of India are troubled and fearful for the future. The leading causes of such suspicions and fears are because Gandhi has agreed to go to a conference in London, England though formerly he refused, he has agreed to discuss safeguards reservations and federation with Indian states. Gandhi's willingness to go to London is explainable by changes in the British attitude since his refusal eighteen months ago. While it may seem dangerous to make Gandhi sole delegate of the Congress at the London conference, it is no more risky than the whole civil-disobedience movement, judged by ordinary standards.
