1. Bridging the Gap: Research Data in Research Information Systems.

Abstract

Research data is increasingly recognised as an essential output type in the context of research documentation. This paper aims to examine the possible use cases for showcasing research datasets in research information systems. The analysis indicates that three primary use cases play a key role in the implementation of a dataset module in an institutional or in a regional/national CRIS. The paper describes the use cases and places them in the specific context of the University of Vienna, while also referring to existing case studies of other institutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Includes RIS Synergy project presentation (10 slides) + National/Regional Research Portals WG presentation (11 slides) A short presentation of the Austrian RIS Synergy project is provided in which the objectives and areas of activity are summarised for this national-level bottom-up project to explore the feasibility of building a national research portal in the country with the participation of Austrian universities, research funders and the Ministry for Education and Research (BMBWF). At the end of this short presentation the announcement is made that the RIS Synergy project will be hosting the CRIS2024 Conference at TU Wien. A second presentation follows to launch the National/Regional Research Portals Working Group led by RIS Synergy in collaboration with euroCRIS. This new working group is an effort to provide collaborative workflows across teams behind national and regional CRISs in Europe and beyond so that they're able to hold a joint conversation on specific aspects that all these projects face such as (among others) the use of CERIF or persistent identifiers and the implementation of the OpenAIRE Guidelines for CRIS managers.

Abstract

The three-week ERASMUS Intensive Programme IPBib 2009 “Grimm-Zentrum – (k)ein Bibliotheksmärchen” (IPBib 2009) benefits from the historically unique situation that Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Humboldt University) is building a new central university library – the Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum (Grimm-Zentrum). This includes transforming a traditional depot library from the 19th century into a modern open access library. The restructuring includes moving twelve branch libraries from the humanities and social sciences into the new Grimm-Zentrum. With its approximately two million media items it will be one of the largest open access libraries in Europe.

Abstract

The article discusses the international Erasmus-Intensivprogramm, a student exchange program which focuses on library architecture. The studies are part of the European Union's Lifelong Learning program. Students from five countries study the subject in Berlin and Vienna. The Institut für Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft (IBI) and the library of the Humboldt-Universität in Berlin, Germany, contributed with their ideas and launched the Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum in October 2009. The article offers information on the program's website and activities such as workshops and conferences.
